I'm surprised that you didn't mention the DS version of Colors. The "Sonic Rush" gameplay aspect of Colors DS made it more memorable for me. The Wii version didn't have the rest of Sonic's supporting cast (such as Shadow, Silver, Knuckles, etc.). Also, Super Sonic gets to fight against the Nega Mother Wisp at the end. That didn't happen in Colors Wii. I'm not saying the console version is bad, but the handheld version deserves more appreciation too.
I was going to click away the moment you said "cringe". I was like "Oh great... he's one of *those* critics. The ones who uses cringe instead of describing their problem"; but then I decided to stick around and hot damn you're descriptive lmao.
i mean, the series DID have cringe in previous entries before colors *cough* sonic heroes *cough* shadow the hedgehog, but the reason colors is mainly attributed as being cringe is because its one of the cringier sonic games tbh. a prime example is the dialogue before the nega wisp armor fight
Everyone should appreciate colors, especially when there are people that can go over all bugs/trash in sonic 06 just because it was ambitious. Colors is one of, if not the best, 3D sonic game. Most balanced and fun game with good controls and art direction. It’s tight and well packed like any other. Can’t wait for the 7th September

Story is alright. the writing however... I didn’t even like it when i played it back as a kid. Then again i never beat tropical resort act 2 until 2 years ago
Honestly, I went the opposite way from homie here, i enjoyed the game as a kid, but considering the "story" shaped what Sonic would be for the next 10 years.
Colors is favorite video game of all time. I love almost everything about this game, and out of the 30 years worth of games that came out of this franchise, this is the game I comeback to the most. I 100% agree with almost everything you said, but I especially love how you told people to GIVE COLORS A SECOND CHANCE. A big part of why Colors is getting so much hate now is because people just haven't played it in awhile. This game gets better the more you play, and the more you do, the more the level design, wisps, and overall atmosphere grows on you. I LOVE THIS GAME!
There is a reason why Colors is still a hyped entry of the series, while it may not have all the ambitious scale of Unleashed or consistent boost goodness like Generations. Colors has distinct vibrant energy that makes it hard to not come back to.
Nah, homie. Sonic colors=bad because i can't form an opinion for myself and must follow the bandwagon, sonic unleashed=gud because it has absolutely no flaws and reckless and unnecessary design choices and is a masterpiece, beep boop.
le epic kek Unleashed is a masterpiece but a very flawed one that is pretty hard. Colors is a fun ride yeah haha! It ain’t big but it is still a good time I agree
The reason why Colors is hyped is because Sonic fans are mindless drones with double standards. "itz guud cuz teh colurz feelz so briet" The game looks like a bootleg port of a PS3/Xbox 360 game, it's a slog to play, they eviscerated more than half of Sonic's moveset for the crap Wisps, platforming is dogshit, and it's filled to the brim with useless padding acts.
Honestly...Sonic Colors was a game I always liked, and it was never really that cringe, just light hearted which is honestly something the series needed when it released. I never thought it mischaracterized anything. The game's story was simple but it didn't really suck. Nothing was really underplayed. Even as I'm older I still laugh at certain jokes and find some jokes more funny then I did as a kid. There really aren't scenes with pointless dramatic elements. Like the Eggman controlling Tails scene COULD have been a boss fight...but even though it wasn't it conveys Eggman's plan of mind controlling the world well so the scene's dramatic elements aren't pointless. Really I don't see why the Tails getting mind cotnrolled scene is that annoying, aside from some missed potential. I agree Tails could have done more in the game's story, although from what I remember...they did a good job of developing his character and not really being a scaredy cat in Colors. Again the characterization in Colors isn't really bad. I would say Sonic Colors is a good game for everyone to play and it doesn't go too far in it's kiddy demographic and it can be entertaining for all ages. It's the same with Mario and how his games are suitable for all ages too. You probably don't agree with me but that's perfectly fine.
Colors is definitely a consistently good Sonic game that's better enjoyed if you focus on exploration with the wisps while using Sonic's natural abilities wisely. It's just not the Sonic game that focuses on fast paced Sonic gameplay as much as most Sonic games like Unleashed & Generations. So if you play this game with the mindset of blasting thru stages as fast as possible like in most Sonic games, the level design(& rankings) for the most part won't reward you for it especially when the platforming gets heavy. This game wants you to be smart with Sonic's speed, not reckless. I also prefer Sonic games that's mostly about speed and fast paced action more than what Colors offered however I still acknowledge that Colors is a well crafted Sonic game that's still consistently enjoyable for what it is regardless. It doesn't have a lot of highs or lows, just decent throughout the adventure.
Glad to see a little more appreciation for Colors. This was my first Sonic game and one of my favorites in the series. And I actually don't mind the story that much.
This exact thing happened to me a few years ago, I used to hate sonic colors but now I love the game and play it almost everyday, thanks for making this video so everyone can realize the brilliance of this game
Unpopular opinion ik, but i actually love the story in Colors. Sure, it's not as in depth or deep as games like Unleashed and SA 1 & 2, but it was fun. I've always loved Sonic and Tails' interactions, whether they're crucial to the plot or just silly little things. Watching them tease each other, then protect each other, was just so sweet. And then the WISPS!!! Ive also loved how much Sonic cares for all the little creatures. And IDW used a scene to show how much of an impact Sonic had on the Wisps; they all love him now with a passion, and it's super sweet! Call me too accepting or not critical enough or whatever but i love the story of Colors :)
Colors is hated by a vocal minority in the fanbase who are stuck in the 2000s. A lot of fans and casual players still love it to this day. Think of it as the “next gen classic fans.”
@@SonicSwift99 yeah, that is true. Me personally, I actually don’t really hate any Sonic games. @@SonicSwift99 I respect your opinion on 06. Although I just can’t help but love it. I actually just completed the game yesterday. In my personal opinion, both 06 and Secret Rings have more pros than they have cons.

The creator is still working on it but I’m excited for when it’s done so I can finally see the fun that was in the original 06. Plus, the animations are gonna be improved and the infamous kiss scene will be gone.
This was certainly interesting it nice to hear someone change there opinion on a game especially when you don’t like it at first it shows that sometimes you don’t have to go into a game with the mind set that it Will be awful its better for others to ignore others opinions and make there own for example people that play a game like sonic 06 should not play with the mind set of that the game is gonna be awful but should play like maybe it’s a really fun adventure that’s how I see how to play games at least but in the end nice vid Nick :)
In my opinion, aesthetic wise, Sonic Colors feels like the Classic Sonic games. You got a tropical hotel theme, a food theme, a space/carnival theme, a forest/factory theme, a Japanese/aquarium theme, and lastly, a rollercoaster/asteroid belt theme. Each level feels so original and fresh! It's a shame many fail to point out the positives in Colors. My only gripe with the game was the lousy story and lack of full 3D stages. To put it shortly, Sonic Colors was the last original Sonic game we got. Every game we got afterwards was nothing but nostalgia overload.
I’m surprised he didn’t mention that this game has SO MUCH REPLAYABILITY. This game has so many reasons to go back to a level to try and get red star rings. Even though I’ve only played ultimate and the handheld version, this game still has more replayability than any other game I’ve played and the franchise and I assume the same is true in the original.
As someone who played this game since childhood as a diehard Sonic fan and a fan of this game I'm truly glad that you changed your mind about this game it truly is one of the best 3D Sonic games if not one of the best Sonic games ever made in the franchise
Haha I had the exact same realization. I’m never actually played the original Colors, and most of the things I’d heard from others were all negative. Then, I actually decided to watch a play through of the game. Completely changed my view. I think this game’s general story and plot are pretty good, but i think the script is god awful. I’m very certain kids would much rather enjoy a more dramatic, unleashed-style story. I also agree as another wannabe animator, this game’s animations are sharp and emotive. While I think the faces might need a little work, the overall movement is some of the series’ best!
"I think this game’s general story and plot are pretty good, but i think the script is god awful." Yea, thats why Colors DS is the best version to play lol But as the video said, its fun to play it, but fuck, level design is kinda eh... unleashed and gens did better, but its not bad like forces, which is good. I think they hit good with colors.
funnily enough, I basically had the reverse experience; I kept hearing about how good Colors was, but then when I actually played it, I didn't like it, and thought it to be boring! TLDR: I'm glad some people like Colors; it's just not my cup of tea.
@@baylordiamond5611 well, sonic games CAN have jokes, they just need to be good. sonic colors had cringe 5 year old jokes all through out it. it doesnt help that they slap jokes in what should be serious moments. a good example is before the nega wisp armor fight, it shouldve have been a cutscene to show how menacing it was, but nope sonic just slaps on some fart joke style humor and the scene just becomes, bleh. a prime example of how to have humor is sonic unleashed, it applies humor in moments that arent really serious or after a threat has been defeated, and knows when to keep a good tone. aome good humor in unleashed is probably those mini movies and the one where chip becomes a ghost
Forgive me for not knowing my slang. I looked up the term and even with my research, it's hard to tell whether you sincerely agree or if you meant that meta-ironically. X D Sorry...
I'm glad you changed your mind about colors because it is a really good game, and I may be just a tiny bit biased since I grew up with it but still, colors is a solid game.
I can’t believe I never got a notification from this video until I was binge watching your videos again and here’s my summary for this game. “It’s a great and fun game however it’s an average and sometimes bad 2D sonic game”
Glad you have a new mindset on Sonic Colors, as it is one of my favorite games in the series. This game is kind of an example that the story doesn't really effect the entire game's quality. The story sucks, absolutely. But Judging it as a game itself, it's one of the best in the series. Not saying I want Sonic games to have bad stories, but for games like this, I don't really care if it's bad or not, as long as the gameplay is good.
You have finally seen the light child (or I guess colors in this case). Anyway Sonic Colors is easily one of my favorite Sonic games, so I am glad to see you gave it another chance. I personally can't wait to se the remaster later this year.
Man I enjoy Colors a ton! It’s not my favorite or even in my top three, but it’s definitely one of the best games in the series. It’s got an incredible art style and soundtrack, and the gameplay is still solid and much better than the Forces comparisons! It’s sure got flaws but I could never call it a bad game.
I've always really adored playing colors, despite the one flaw it has with me personally, being how the announcer guy ruins the final boss by stating what attack is going to be used. outside of that? I had a blast with the game from start to end, finding every single secret that's to be uncovered and collected. never sadly went for all S ranks though... but when the remake/remaster hits, such will be something I'll do fully there.
On one hand... I could give this game a second chance and be an adult who challenges his own views. Oooooor I could be stubborn and continue shit on this game out of spite. Decisions decisions.
"I hate Sonic Colors. I have for years because of the story, because of its story, its story, and its 2D platforming" that's what i heard in the intro lmao
I really appreciate these type of videos in a sea of Colors hate these days. So many of the positive aspects of this game get overlooked, and there's just a lot of revisionist blind hate these days. It's basically the opposite of looking at something through rose colored glasses. Shit colored glasses? Let's go with that. (Yes, the game has a few obvious flaws, but that's besides the point.)
Couldn’t agree more with you! I get the criticism, but we have all the reasons to be excited for colours ultimate! And if it sells really well, they could also port sonic unleashed. So in any case, let’s show some love to this remaster
I loved the Wii version of colors except for one thing, no nega mother wisp boss fight, I was so disappointed after getting the emeralds and finding out super sonic was just an unlockable and did not have a boss fight
@mrcristofer 2013 Practically nothing until Sonic 3 and Knucles and even then incredibly minimally presented. Nobody got the classics for their compelling story.
Colors, Black Knight, and Lost World are the only 3D Sonic games I've never played. I can't wait to finally be able to play Colors when Ultimate comes out
Sonic Colors I've beaten it last week after years of not playing it, because of people criticizing the game and after playing the game I thought it was a fun game just like I remember, but I still can't excuse the slow and blocky platforming that most of the levels have and there's a lot of waiting for platforms sadly. Also I hate the yellow spring sections or the laser sections with a slow moving platform that you control with buttons. Those are my biggest problems with Colors next to the story. This doesn't mean that I don't like Colors I think it's a good game, but I don't think it's one of my favorites, because I enjoy the stages of Unleashed and Gens a lot more (I also like the Werehog so I definitely enjoy Unleashed the most). Anyways I like this game just like I remember, but also like I remember it never stood out to me as a kid and therefore I almost never replayed the stages, because I could play Heroes, Unleashed and Gens and have a better time with those games instead (Of course personal opinion). Those are my thought on Colors at least.
The force of nature is sonic using more speed to go faster in colors he dosent try and go his fastest if he did he will have no control and break everything in his path and know one knows what the universe is gonna react to that speed
thinking about it again now, sonic colours' level design philosophy (outside of the gimmick stages) really does harken back to the classics, having more of an emphasis on earning your speed through learning the level in and out, while still staying true to the boost formula's quick reactions and momentum. add the gorgeous cinematics sprinkled in here and there like in starlight carnival and you have the recipe for the best level design in the boost games by far.
You know when you watch a good movie for the second time and start to notice the bad things? Not much different from what happened to you. You already know everything that is bad so you start to pay more attention to what is good.
The Sonic boost trilogy are my favorite 3D Sonic games, and this video totally encapsulates what I love about Sonic Colors. I’m totally hyped for Sonic Colors Ultimate.
I was one of the people that grew up with this game, so the immense amount of criticism it got in the Sonic Community really confused me, some criticism made sense, but people who would criticize the level design and controls always seemed like they were speaking from a bias. Most of the time they'd criticize the game for lacking merits that they liked from other games, like Unleashed and Adventure. I felt if most of these people just played the game on its own terms they'd appreciate how much effort went into it. It irritates me when people call this game lazy and boring when it's anything but that.
Yknow Colors was a game near and dear and after all the vitriol its gotten because of its writing, it feels nice to find a more positive video on it that focuses on what it did well
Even though the story leaves a lot to be desired, it still left an impression on me. I actually felt emotion during the climax from the game. Lately, Sonic games haven’t given me that feeling especially the way Forces handled it’s ending. With regards to gameplay, I’m starting to appreciate the ranking system. It rewards mastery of both Sonic’s agility and wisp mastery. It’s difficult to earn an S, but man is it satisfying. I can’t wait for Colors Ultimate in which I can experience it all again with a fresh perspective.
As someone who grew up with Sonic Colours. I was surprised to hear all the hate around the game and while yes I do agree with some criticism like the heavy focus on 2D sections. I’ll still always love this game.
aaand that's exactly where my opinions lie too. im also glad you brought up the animation and how sonic controls, i feel like it's overlooked for some reason. just uh...ignore the story. (though i personally woulda killed for more, longer 3D sections. game's basically 2.5D with some 3D here n' there. stuff like starlight carnival 5 or just longer sections in general would be fantastic.)
Aquarium Park act 4 Planet Wisp act 1,3 and 6 Tropical Resort act 1 and 3 Sweet Mountain Act 1 Asteroid Coaster act 6 All of these are peak Sonic Gameplay IMO
One point Shay May made in their Sonic gameplay breakdown video, is how Sonic levels should be easy to navigate, but also accommodate more ambitious play. Colours gets this right with its homing attack. It's easy to use, but it kills your momentum. So if you instead carefully use your boost jump and air boost instead, you can keep much more momentum.
When I got this game back in 2010, I held it in very high regard. Not only for the amazing gameplay, but I actually thought the story and writing was pretty good. And I still think that. I don't know why, but I find the characters, jokes, and writing genuinely charming.
I had never been more hyped to play a Sonic game when colors came out. I had followed its development religiously and played the crap out of it when I first got it on Christmas of that year. It was a truly magical experience for me. When I got to Planet Wisp Act 1 and the gorgeous music kicked in and the beautiful scenery appeared on screen, I actually stopped, took in the moment, and was moved to tears. I was so amazed at the emotion and atmosphere it was able to evoke in me. Colors was cemented as my favorite Sonic game for quite a while. But I never came back to it. Meanwhile, I came back to SA2 every single year, but I was never moved to play Colors like that, especially after I unlocked Super Sonic. My recent playthrough, I thought young me was insane. I absolutely despised it. For every Planet Wisp Act 1, there was slow, uninteresting level design. Especially after playing (and surprisingly enough, loving to death) Sonic UnWiished, my distaste for Colors is at an all time high. But I *want* to love it again. I want to relive those magical moments and reclaim my childhood. I'm hoping Ultimate makes enough interesting additions to where I can be a kid again and appreciate it for what it was. And call me stupid, but I love the cutscenes in Colors. They're so campy and I can't help but love them, even if I would prefer a story like the Adventure games.
Sonic Colors is a great game. It's a game that feels like it knows exactly what it is and wants to be without trying too hard to be anything else. I personally never had any issues with the story or comedy in the game (I honestly find the game to be hilarious), but always felt that there was never anything wrong with Colors deciding to go for a more light-hearted story. I think Sonic can have games with simple light stories (Colors) and games with more serious stories (Adventure 2). And I still find the Wisps to be the best part of the entire game. They just work incredibly well here and overall enhance the experience of the game. Best thing is starting a new playthrough where you're unable to access certain parts in a level, then replaying levels later when you get the correct Wisp and seeing what you was missing out on.
Sonic Colors is a very "succinct" Sonic experience. It's very short but very sweet the whole time. The abundance of 2D and slow platforming are a bit much, but they aren't bad, either. However, it's still hard not to resent the game for the tonal shift it has given us for the last decade (I know fans seem to hate it lately but honestly I hated it the second I saw it, haha). It also really got on my nerves back in the day when critics called it "the best Sonic game in a decade", when I personally appreciated Unleashed for what it was already at that point. (Unleashed is and always has been amazing. They also just straight up ignored all of the Dimps games, as people tend to do. Sega also reacted to the positive feedback incorrectly and started putting Wisps in everything instead of making games more streamlined like Colors. TL;DR Colors is good, but I resent it so much that I can't call myself a fan. Only recently have fans started to call out it's terrible influence on the series so the game made me feel like a crazy person for the better part of a decade, haha.
I might have to give it chance again, I remember the levels screwing me over tenfold. Maybe a GC Control might help along the way... Still despise the story writing and the wisps being carried over for the rest of the games (Like, maybe wisps in a spinoff, where we can throw logic out the window but the mainline sequals?)
I played Colors for the first time last year and.... I wasn't loving it. I feel like it was too short to be bogged down by levels that force you to sit and wait. But I'm glad you could enjoy it, has much as I miss the adventure era, I don't think bashing Colors changes the direction Sega took the franchise. It's a fine game and a nice change of pace for the time, but isn't a favorite of mine.
It definitely has its moments of stop and slow down, I can definitely understand why people don’t like it. Heck I even think most criticism for why I didn’t like it originally is pretty valid, I just think my personal taste have changed enough to enjoy it. Thanks for the comment though! Always happy to hear everyone’s thoughts!
I won't expect too much about the new ports, but I definitely consider this game to be one of the best in the series. I also realised that they have used reach for the stars as Sonic's all star theme in transformed and Ultimate in TSR
Colours was always this good. You essentially saying "I changed my mind about Colours because I stopped focusing on what WASN'T there and what it got wrong and started focusing on what id got right"
I honestly found the trend in the Sonic community of people trying to claim Sonic Colors was bad the whole time to be really weird. Then again I also felt that way when people started retroactively saying Sonic Adventure was bad the whole time (fucking Projared and Arin Hanson). And I also thought it was weird when people were saying Sonic was always bad even the 2D games sucked (Red Letter Media legit did a video about that and it got some traction for a while). It's like there's a treadmill where every new Sonic games comes out and people say "SONIC IS BACK" and then after a year people bitch and moan and say it sucked and Sonic was only good when he was in games that came out when they were kids, and then 10 years later everyone goes "you know it really WAS a great game people just didn't appreciate it =o " I find it very annoying, but at least it'll be funny when people start saying "these new Sonic games suck I miss Sonic Forces back when Sonic was actually good"
Colours ultimate will be my first exposure to colours outside of cutscenes and TH-cam gameplay. I've heard things about colours, criticisms, praises but I've never said my piece on how I feel about it. I've always seen it as one of the better games despite the story, (the story and characters are things I know I'm right about) so I'm hoping when I pick it up later this year that I'm pleasently surprised.
I’d say colors is often super heavily tied to what it led to. This style of writing and lighthearted misrepresentation of these characters definitely started because of Colors success. That being said it’s gameplay is far better than what came after and it’s story is also at least a lot more interesting. Gotta look at it for what it is.
I STILL hate Colors but I appreciate that you'd go back to try and give it a fair chance lol. It's mostly a 2D Sonic game where the pacing and progression are broken up WAY too often imo, it's only fun in the short segments it gives you where you can ACTUALLY control a 3D Sonic but I'm very happy for Colors fans that now get to play the game again for the first time in over 10 years since it released on Wii exclusively. Bigger the audience, the better.
I only have one problem with the wisps. They don't have flow. Sonic could be running at top speed, and then when he activates a wisp the game pauses and he loses all of his momentum. Then when the transformation ends he also loses all his momentum. Wisps would be a lot more enjoyable if there were just smoother snappier transtions in and out of the power up. I think colors DS nailed this perfectly.
I actually beat at this game yesterday for the first time I’ve never actually beaten it even though I got it back in 2016 because I was stuck on two stages
NGL. The moment I heard Colors was the hate of the week a few years back, I immediately zoned out on that topic all together. The story hasn't been good since Colors, yes. However, I truthfully always believed that Colors is a phenomenal game in terms of control, layouts, and aesthetic.
Colors definitely isn’t a bad game story aside. I can’t help but feel peoples opinions have changed because of what Colors success led to for the franchise as a whole. Sega really needs to understand that there needs to be a balance between goofy fun games and somewhat serious ones, not just one way or the other
So I use to dislike sonic colors for it's bad character writing, bad story, and over reliance on 2D sections. But after playing it again I started to like its gameplay more. It still has a bad execution of its story and characters, but I still had some fun with it, and nastolgia for sonic colors
Sonic Colors emulates the experience of going to a theme park quite strikingly. The opening rush of excitement and wonder, then the slogging through tons of stupid boring crap and waiting around to get to the fun bits, all while dodging cringey comedy routines by costumes characters. No line at the bathroom, though!

It’s weird how when it came out this game was hailed as a return to form for the series, but 10 years later it’s considered a disappointment.
Probably due to the fanbase slowly noticing the game’s impact on the series as a whole
And wisps also got annoying when they kept coming back.
@@tjlnintendo Yeah. It seems like what killed it was SEGA’s “People liked it! Let’s do it again, but OVERKILL!” mentality.
Colors certainly isn't the Sonic game we want in today's age, but it was exactly what we needed in 2010.
With that said I'll still pick up Ultimate.
@@vytrondevofficial that and Generations practically perfecting the boost formula with well designed levels
Reading the title made me imagine Izuka pointing a gun at him to make this video lol
Not a gun, but a LAZER!
Izuka be like *insert Eggman Delet This meme here*
There is a reason why Colors is still a hyped entry of the series, while it may not have all the ambitious scale of Unleashed or consistent boost goodness like Generations. Colors has distinct vibrant energy that makes it hard to not come back to.
This sounds like a snack description especially the "Boost Goodness"
"itz guud cuz teh colurz feelz so briet"
The game looks like a bootleg port of a PS3/Xbox 360 game, it's a slog to play, they eviscerated more than half of Sonic's moveset for the crap Wisps, platforming is dogshit, and it's filled to the brim with useless padding acts.
@@yrooxrksvi7142 Still better than Forces is all I have to say.
This was actually a really cool look at the game, I enjoyed it! Keep up the great work!
Great
No this isn’t a sonic game if it’s so stupid and slow paced
@@ljproductions4026 Womp womp. Just cuz it's different doesn't mean it's bad.
I love Sonic Colors too and I hate acting like I dont.
SA1 and Sonic CD are overall my favorite Sonic games; Colors to me is a close 5th for me.
Me to
Wow, someone who actually likes CD other than myself. Cool!
@@somerandofromoregon Not everyone, actually I know a lot of people who hate CD.
Biggest advantage of Sonic Colors is gameplay and level design. Story is as simple as it gets
From what I’ve seen, Sonic Colours is sometimes hated in the Sonic community but liked by people outside of this community.
I love 06 and Secret Rings, I like Forces and Shadow The Hedgehog and I actually don’t mind Rise Of Lyric. It’s only a few Sonic games that I dislike, such as a Free Riders, Chronicles, Spinball, Drift, 3D Blast and Sonic’s Schoolhouse.
@@ShadowDante7 Same here but 06 is the only game in the series that I truly hate.
@@SonicSwift99 I respect your opinion on 06. Although I just can’t help but love it. I actually just completed the game yesterday. In my personal opinion, both 06 and Secret Rings have more pros than they have cons.
@@ShadowDante7 Have you played the fan game P-06? It’s basically if Sonic 06 was fixed and didn’t have all those bugs and glitches.
Me: reads the title
What I thought: they screwed up Colors Ultimate?
The actual outcome: Oh, yeah. It is good
As someone who played this game since childhood as a diehard Sonic fan and a fan of this game I'm truly glad that you changed your mind about this game it truly is one of the best 3D Sonic games if not one of the best Sonic games ever made in the franchise
Is anyone else just happy to have a major 3D Sonic title ported to Switch?
I am! To be honest, it’ll be my first Sonic experience that... uh, isn’t “Sonic and the Secret Rings.”
"I think this game’s general story and plot are pretty good, but i think the script is god awful." Yea, thats why Colors DS is the best version to play lol
But as the video said, its fun to play it, but fuck, level design is kinda eh... unleashed and gens did better, but its not bad like forces, which is good. I think they hit good with colors.
I found the writing pretty funny
@@TGHunter I don’t like the story in colors ds it’s not better for not having jokes. It’s just dryer I prefer the Wii version in almost every aspect
funnily enough, I basically had the reverse experience; I kept hearing about how good Colors was, but then when I actually played it, I didn't like it, and thought it to be boring!

I'm glad you changed your mind about colors because it is a really good game, and I may be just a tiny bit biased since I grew up with it but still, colors is a solid game.
My problem with colors is that it’s deemed one of Sonic’s best “3D” games when it’s mostly 2D. It would’ve been better with more 3D in it
I can’t believe I never got a notification from this video until I was binge watching your videos again and here’s my summary for this game.
The whole vid:
I DONT LIKE SONIC COLORS
But now i do cause i played it again
Wait try playing sonic o6 again see how that goes
Brilliant. A well-written video that makes great points about colours. Good job, and glad you saw the light eventually! XD
“The spite is strong with this one.”
-Darth Vader, at some point, probably
"I hate Sonic Colors. I have for years because of the story, because of its story, its story, and its 2D platforming"

I really appreciate these type of videos in a sea of Colors hate these days. So many of the positive aspects of this game get overlooked, and there's just a lot of revisionist blind hate these days. It's basically the opposite of looking at something through rose colored glasses. Shit colored glasses? Let's go with that.
(Yes, the game has a few obvious flaws, but that's besides the point.)
i don't think its the game itself people really hate i think its more so the impact it had on the series people hate
Sonic Colors was the first Sonic game I’ve ever played and I fell in LOVE. It’s cringy at times and some stuff is meh but I fucking love it.
Couldn’t agree more with you! I get the criticism, but we have all the reasons to be excited for colours ultimate! And if it sells really well, they could also port sonic unleashed. So in any case, let’s show some love to this remaster
Very nice review. Well written. Has a great flow.
I loved the Wii version of colors except for one thing, no nega mother wisp boss fight, I was so disappointed after getting the emeralds and finding out super sonic was just an unlockable and did not have a boss fight
Couldn't give a s*** about story in Sonic games... especially growing up with classic sonic that had none.
The GAME is excellent.
@mrcristofer 2013 Practically nothing until Sonic 3 and Knucles and even then incredibly minimally presented. Nobody got the classics for their compelling story.
@mrcristofer 2013 Didn't say otherwise. I said it's not important to me.
Colours is a great game.especially for a wiii game.
Man, I love this channel lmfao I'm about a binge watch all these videos
Thank you so much! 😭
Aquarium Park is my favorite OST, can't change my mind, never will!
When I was younger I accidentally changed the language and didn’t know how to change it back
You know when you watch a good movie for the second time and start to notice the bad things?
Not much different from what happened to you. You already know everything that is bad so you start to pay more attention to what is good.
If he finds the game more fun then he finds it more fun, nothing can really be done to change that
Great video man! I agree with you, sonic colors is great, it has its own problems but still a great game
This game also has my favorite credits sequence. The interactions, the wisps, the music and the free lives you get at the end.
Yknow
Colors was a game near and dear and after all the vitriol its gotten because of its writing, it feels nice to find a more positive video on it that focuses on what it did well
Even though the story leaves a lot to be desired, it still left an impression on me.
Well done.
Can we agree that Asteroid Coaster Act 1 is another gem of a level?
Aquarium Park act 4
Planet Wisp act 1,3 and 6
Tropical Resort act 1 and 3
Sweet Mountain Act 1
Asteroid Coaster act 6
All of these are peak Sonic Gameplay IMO
Heres a nice fact: The dialog in sonic colors was written by the same guy who dubbed the Ghost Stores.
One point Shay May made in their Sonic gameplay breakdown video, is how Sonic levels should be easy to navigate, but also accommodate more ambitious play.
Colours gets this right with its homing attack. It's easy to use, but it kills your momentum. So if you instead carefully use your boost jump and air boost instead, you can keep much more momentum.
wen it comes to sonic color animation of the cutsence i realy like the way sonic reacts wen tails spots him speaking to a dead robot
I am so glad this game is coming to PC and PS4. I never got the chance to play it so I am glad I get to actually experience it.
I love this game.
When I got this game back in 2010, I held it in very high regard. Not only for the amazing gameplay, but I actually thought the story and writing was pretty good.
And I still think that. I don't know why, but I find the characters, jokes, and writing genuinely charming.
@mrcristofer 2013 he’s allowed to find whatever he wants to be charming
A well thought out analysis!
0:46 In that part he sounded like Sonic,ya know, for someone who talks about Sonic so much,he'd be a pretty good voice actor for him,in my opinion.
You: maybe after hating the game you can go back and love it
Me: *loved it but does not have my wii anymore* 😢
TL;DR
Colors is good, but I resent it so much that I can't call myself a fan. Only recently have fans started to call out it's terrible influence on the series so the game made me feel like a crazy person for the better part of a decade, haha.
I kinda had an opposite realization when I replayed
Let's face it: Tails has done nothing after Sonic Adventure 2.
One more thing loved that you didn’t complain about EVERYTHING and it was balance 😊
Will you do more?
I won't expect too much about the new ports, but I definitely consider this game to be one of the best in the series.
I also realised that they have used reach for the stars as Sonic's all star theme in transformed and Ultimate in TSR
Colours was always this good. You essentially saying "I changed my mind about Colours because I stopped focusing on what WASN'T there and what it got wrong and started focusing on what id got right"
Funny thing is I played it but never finished it so I'll definitely be playing it on the xbox seires x
This is Litterally my favorite Official 3D Sonic I love it so much.
Also Starlight Carnival is my favorite Sonic Level of all time
I honestly found the trend in the Sonic community of people trying to claim Sonic Colors was bad the whole time to be really weird.
It's like there's a treadmill where every new Sonic games comes out and people say "SONIC IS BACK" and then after a year people bitch and moan and say it sucked and Sonic was only good when he was in games that came out when they were kids, and then 10 years later everyone goes "you know it really WAS a great game people just didn't appreciate it =o "
I find it very annoying, but at least it'll be funny when people start saying "these new Sonic games suck I miss Sonic Forces back when Sonic was actually good"
I hate colors even after I replayed it
Glad you enjoyed something I dont
yes
On Tails being mind controlled, they did the same thing in Lost World if I'm not mistake.
They pulled basically the exact same thing yeah and it was totally pointless
Well at least you’re more considerate than other people who might not like it
I replayed Sonic Colors on Wii right after Ultimate got announced, beat it in one sitting. Level design is solid in this game.
Sega really needs to understand that there needs to be a balance between goofy fun games and somewhat serious ones, not just one way or the other
After playing forces, a friend of mine dared say even Sonic 4 was good, no surprise colors would be the same case
So I use to dislike sonic colors for it's bad character writing, bad story, and over reliance on 2D sections. But after playing it again I started to like its gameplay more. It still has a bad execution of its story and characters, but I still had some fun with it, and nastolgia for sonic colors
Agreed Man! Loved this game as well!!
Looking forward to playing Sonic Colors ultimate as my first 3D boost game
