CVT is best. I am using. Its better than DCT and AMT in all sense. Its feul efficiency is 99% same as in case of manual. Most important thing that there leg while speeding up or driving at Hilly area. In case of Automatic transmission we feel leg while shifting takes place but in case of CVT just smooth driving. So on road driving CVT is really marvel of engineering. Above six points many points are also applicable in case of manual and automatic transmission too. Eg change of gear box oil after 50-60Km.. No braking while in acceleration.. No clutch use while driving only and no need of shift. No shift from forward to reverse or skipping the sequence if gear in case of manual Or no D to R / R to D direct shift while driving.

YOU SAID "Keep the CVT on D mode to stop the vehicle at RED SIGNAL". How is that possible without keeping the BRAKE PEDAL engaged? You also said "not to engage the BRAKE PEDAL, for best performance. The only way D mode can be disengaged automatically, in such conditions is by using either the PARKING BRAKE or AUTO-HOLD function - which again is a matter of concern as some experts suggest against using those, as well. Then what is the best way to keep the vehicle still at a RED SIGNAL OR how to drive in a STOP & GO traffic??
It doesn't hurt the transmission to leave it in Drive at a traffic light , but if you are going to be there for more than several minutes , putting it in Neutral or Park is ok too

Who wants a vehicle that you have to be so gentle with. CVT's are garbage, I know I don't want any vehicle with one, regardless of the manufacture. If I need to launch hard, I don't want to feel like I may be doing damage to the transmission. All I can hope for is at least one manufacture continues to offer an automatic that shifts, and I can if I need to, hammer it without worrying about causing damage or premature ware. What a load of crock. And it seems most CVT's are not rebuildable, they are replaced with used or new units. If that is the case and your vehicle has 150,000 miles on it, then it has become a throw away vehicle. At least regular automatic transmission can be rebuilt with new internal parts. Talk about a bad investment. CVT transmission? No thanks.

Hi Mohit, Changing drive modes on the go should not affect the performance of gearbox. They are meant to take this beating. However, avoid doing it frequently.

i don't get it, honda civic 2017 1.5 CVT with 182 HP, after second gear why pushing is so bad for it? honda wouldn't do a car which can't rev , i can understand launching but reving in higher gears?
If I do an emergency stop, I get a 'clonk' from the transmission. I think this is probably OK and is just due to the pulleys contracting and resetting rapidly. Would like a professional opinion though! (Honda Jazz).
You can use "N" or Neutral when you are at a long traffic stop. This is a good practice to avoid any unnecessary pressure on the transmission. Moreover, Neutral is also used in case your vehicle is being towed.
By Launch, we meant slotting the car in "D" or Drive, pressing the Brake Pedal while simultaneously pressing the accelerator pedal building revs and letting go of the brake to Launch a CVT car.
@@gomechanicindia - I see. Thank you. That, and a couple of other things you mentioned, like don't go from Drive to Reverse or vice versa unless you are at a full stop, are rules that I have lived by since my early days of driving in the 60s. I never knew too many people who had a habit of resting their left foot on the brake pedal, which is obviously a very bad habit, but I knew quite a few who rested their foot on the clutch pedal, also bad. I was not aware of people putting their car in neutral at a stop light, either. Is that common? Why do they do it?

Most of us buy an automatic for a hassle free drive in heavy traffic but then the mileage it offers in heavy traffic is a mere 10km/l. It also has this rubber band effect which does not allow you to drive in a sporty manner.

@@gomechanicindia Oh I see...that would be great 👍...so you are recommending that there is no need of putting a CVT car in neutral or parking when stopping at traffic lights and jams !!? Also, never to launch the vehicle at high speed ?
The pulleys change sizes to change the ratio of the sizes of both the pulleys (an imaginary gear ratio).. the belt just gets squeezed in between the gaps in the pulleys.. so whenever you floor the pedal the pulley is put under extreme pressure with friction and it will slip.. it shows high RPM but it doesn’t actually move the driven pulley in the same RPM so you experience a lag in the acceleration.. thus a rubber band effect
