    How did you know one of the most painful experiences I had as a young queer man was with a DL Married Man that didn't disclose he was married. We "dated" for a few months until his wife confronted me very loudly and very publicly. I was devastated. I was lied to and used. I felt so much shame and guilt. It took years to be able to acknowledge this man was a predator. I often wondered how many other young men he had taken advantage of. Decades later I learned he passed away of AIDS/HIV complications. I couldn't believe it brought up all those old emotions and they poured through me like a flood. I actually felt sorry for his wife and family. It must have been a horrible and senseless way to finally be confronted with the truth.

      I am very sorry that happened to you. I grew up in an era (1970s) where there were so many of these married closet cases. I can't imagine why guys would do this. Imagine "lying" to the woman, because that's what it is. Maybe they thought this would pass, or if they got married, this would go away, or if they prayed hard enough. Who knows?
      For me, it was obvious - I wasn't going down that road. But, I certainly ran into many of them. Even as a young child in the 1960s, I saw these guys. So many drank themselves into a coma. They couldn't get divorced. They'd sit there, drinking, waiting for sweet death to take them. I can't imagine it. Fortunately, young people today (mostly) have told the religious crowd to shove it up where the sun don't shine, and they love who they want to love. That high school jocks take their boyfriends to the prom is something that I would love to have done! Kudos to those kids today who can do that.

      Also, please be aware that you can have a lot of fun with people who are on the downlow and who are bi. Yes, there are problems, but if you are an adult and know what you are doing (having fun) there is nothing wrong with being DL or BI, or enjoying those who are. If you are looking for love and marriage then DO NOT have an affair with someone who is DL or BI. They are not going to marry you. I'm 74 and just ended my latest DL with a guy after 5 years. I will find another or a few more. He was seeing a girl and wanted to be exclusive. A week and a half later he was calling and saying he was single again and we could start over. NOPE! Have to have boundaries. I enjoyed him and as I told him during that week I went through all the stages of losing a friend. When you are enjoying the company of someone who is on the DL or BI, that this might be the last time you will ever see them. Enjoy the Heck out of them and send them away with a smile on your face, because YOU had a good time, them? LOL

    A few decades ago, I went out with this guy I met through a personal ad, and I made it clear I wanted a relationship. We went out a few times and I really liked him a lot and started to think maybe I'd finally found a potential boyfriend, and then he started hitting on me pretty hard back at my place and said he was married to a woman and bisexual. I was so angry I kicked him out immediately. He seemed shocked. He was probably used to pulling that on multiple guys and getting away with it. At the time, I was more worried about his having lied to me about the relationship part, which I was very serious about, but later I thought how glad I was that I didn't help him cheat on his wife. Sadly, he probably found someone else to cheat with though.

      That's something I never worried about. There were times when a wife suddenly called me, ranting about my phone number being in his wallet or wherever. I would always say, go talk to him. Once I used a great line, 'My wife, is she up to it again. She is always on that damn computer telling guys she is 23, she is actually 67 and we've been married 41years.' Then they think their husband is being a bigger fool than they thought. Later I would get a thank-you call. But it was never my problem, no one ever showed up at my door. I never set out to interfere in anyone's life. A friend told me about straight men when I was 23, until then I had never thought about them. I'm 74 now.

    Very persuasive. I was married for many years, have three adult children, but I “knew” from the beginning. Unfortunately, I was born in the 1950s, and coming out wasn’t feasible. To this day, I haven’t made a grand announcement because I’m pretty sure everyone already knows. But I dated a DL guy for 20+ years, in the same exact situation, other than he’s still married. However, I wasn’t disappointed because I never had the slightest expectation that he’d leave his wife and sell beads on the beach in Hawaii with me. My eyes were wide open. Still, it is something of a waste of time because you are ALWAYS going to be at the bottom of the list. The funny thing is that now I’ve lost interest in him, and he always calls me - I just blow him off (bad choice of words). 180 degree change from the way our relationship used to be. Amusing last thought: he is a tough guy, sports fanatic, he-man…..and committed bottom. It always makes me laugh!

I can say after an adult sexual life of 98% DL and BI men, that I have never been hurt by any of them. They were always considerate, of me and my home. I don't completely agree with you because some of these guys might be bisexual, too. It doesn't mean DL men are all closeted gays. They can be closeted bisexuals.
    I was with a guy like that and he was upfront about his situation. He wasn't married at the time, but he was engaged for 2 years. We "dated" for around 4 months, but I ended it because I started having more deep feelings for him. I heard years later that he indeed got married and has 2 kids now. I know he won't be completely happy though staying only within his marriage.

    That said, being with someone who is DL is basically cheating with someone who says they "plan" to leave their SO, but can't right now due to "financial reason's."🙄
    I can respect the circumstances, but don't pull me into some ridiculous "love triangle" because you have "needs" and have decided to make me your human flashlight. No, thanks.

Luckily we were no longer intimate, his choice. I say lucky because I was probably spared STDs or worse. • @DarylMangosing
    @DarylMangosing 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Very well-said and civil regarding this subpopulation, but I think one thing to note is that usually, from my observation, is that majority of the time, most men who identify as DL/straight who engage with other men sexually seek the very same men who are in their position. I’m wondering if Jaks lives in an area where such men are so rare and far in between that they can only access out-men more so than those who are also in their position. This is why you’ll usually see DL men’s profiles say they’re only seeking married, DL men, and I think they if they do indicate that they’re openly straight in their profile, it’s very likely that they’re trying to attract like-minded men because then there won’t be a conflict of interest, AKA they’ll know what each other wants out of the sexual engagement with no strings attached; they get what they want without jeopardizing their public life. Sorry, just wanted to add this!

    I had lived the DL way too long. For me I was in a church that if/when I came out I would lose all friendships and ousted from the community that I had been a part of for several years. Being DL meant I could only do hookups usually with visiting men. It was so lonely and I wanted so much more. I had a DL boyfriend for a while, we were both in the closet. We mainly stayed in at his place, and when we did go out we couldn't show affection towards each other. It was a terrible way to live. Eventually I did come out, lost all the church friends, became a pariah to my community. I had to build new friendships and relationships, but when it came to dating it was so worth it to be able to be out and proud,
    Just thought I'd share the side from a former DL guy.

But shortly after meeting and "hanging out" I just couldn't do it. I couldn't live with the betrayal to his family and sure I wanted more. He would have been content with the situation probably to this day, in fact I sometimes wonder where he is at now 30 years later and I am pretty sure he would be with his wife and probably has grandkids by now. I think there is another category of men who are open to those who ask but don't like to advertise. If you have a very fundamentalist or very adamantly homophobic family, and they know and you know they know anyways, it just can be very uncomfortable for them in their situation, and there can be also a risk that if you are too open, you will be cutoff and unable to help your family in other ways. It can be a selfless act if you thinks it's best for them, even if it's more pain for you.
