Good question. The only difference between the low C and low D version of these instruments is the extension so there is no need to use a different mouthpiece or reed.
These side projects are important too. I've learned a ton about acoustics and instrument design from some of my less popular projects which will definitely come in useful for the octocontrabass.
@@Jared_De_Leon I'm glad you are working on the octocontrabass. It's frustrating to me that Leblanc doesn't allow theirs to be restored to playing condition, and then let someone play it and record it. Yours is the best chance we have of hearing the awesome sound of the octo.
Playing the extension notes looks like playing palm key notes (high D, Eb and F) on a saxophone.

You could have one made with a simple thumb key. On a Vito it would be fairly easy to do.

Just sort of thought of it. I’ve seen other custom extensions but they all involve complex key work and lots of soldering.
Also, continue work on the Octocontrabass.

In the meantime, I put a baritone sax mouthpiece on different lengths of PVC pipe, up to 40 feet.
