Are you going to use a bulk tank with milk and drive along the fence filling the buckets? It's always a pleasure to watch livestock dance around in new straw.
Your kid are cute. it's great that they are able to grow up around the farm animals. That's an excellent situation. Its nice to see the calves playing in the pens. I really enjoy your videos. keep up the great work on your farm. See you next time.
Thanks for showing us what goes aroumd on the Farm. We also have Bottles with nippels. It's rare that they suck at each other but we prevent that with lockable feeding fence. They have to stay in IT for 15-20 minutes after feeding so their suck Reflex goes away. In Last Case they get noserings .
Thanks for showing us the pens being set up. Was that your dad in the background looking things over when you had your boys? Nice looking calves, and of course more important your boys. Nice weather to make that switch for sure.
I've been gone from dairy farming nearly fifty years so I'm not up to date on most things related to dairy cattle. So correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the calves should be kept away from the cows so they don't pick up diseases from the cows.
I think it's important for the first 2 to 3 weeks of life, in this stage our calves are in individual pens in our calf barn. Once they're moved into these group pens, they're 5 to 6 weeks old. At this age, they're eating and drinking very good and have started to build up their immune system. From this point on, they're not as vulnerable to diseases.
Hi Piet, my name is Roan. I'm a 34 year old South African seeking employment on farms in USA. I was wondering if you perhaps hire foreign workers under the H2A visa program? Any info would be much appreciated.
I use a milk bar on my beef cross calfs. I think individual is best everyone that does group pens for replacements has robot feeder or keeps milk in front all times they like to suck when you take milk away and wean
Great looking calves, Piet. Good video, thanks for sharing.

Yes, we have a milk taxi. It's a pasteurizer on wheels that also has a dosing handle that dispenses set amounts of milk for the calves.

Yes, that was my dad. Hopefully, the transition will be a good one for the calves!
To bad your not closer to us. When calving starts for us sometimes we need baby calves to adopt. Yours look great.
Thank you!
The calves were glad to get out of the Huch
They're always excited when they go into a pen with fresh bedding!
Happier calves
