In high school in the 90s I had a band called phenobarbital (seems pretty cringe now), that was entirely themed and influenced by Heaven’s Gate. Literally, the cover to the tape we put out had 39 black boxes on it. God, that’s embarrassing to admit, hadn’t thought of that in a while, lol.
Appreciate that modern bands like Drab Majesty is bringing back the 80s synthwave music. Plus, they totally nailed and it sounds so accurate as though its legit that this song sounds like from the 80s.

Hello from 2021, this is beyond criminal these view counts. I'm appalled I was not here earlier espically working in music. When this band popped up on my Spotify I assumed they were brand new and my jaw dropped they are not huge. This is an amazing aesthetic.
My cousin was buried in Malcolm's burial plot in Corpus Christi. He died in he same week and his family sold my Uncle the plot at Sea Side Memorial. This happened when I was in 7 the grade and I always held on to this fascination to Heavens Gate hitting so close to home. This song is one of my most favorite songs ever.

I remember the Heaven's Gate suicides. Happened just fifteen miles or so from where I lived at the time, here in San Diego County. I wept when I learned what happened, and what they believed they were doing. Those poor, confused, desperate souls. Great track, by the way. Love it.

I'm going on 55 this month and this is just bloody brilliant. I can't describe how much I love this, how it makes me feel and what it makes me think. It's so original, yet speaks from a time already lived. To me, this embodies the darker/more thoughtful edge of the 80s and 90s that never quite made it through the tidal wave of crap-pop that emerged as a reaction to the starkness of the 1970s. Thank you Dais Records - you have a gem in Drab Majesty and I can't wait for more of this amazing act.

I am including myself as I say this, in today's globalised world with its exceedingly fast distribution of bad news - deaths, catastrophes, murders, and so on - people tend to lose sensibility and empathy. I am thankful to Drab Demure for reminding me of my humanity.
Some details in this video you may not have noticed: In the beginning of the video the character wearing glasses has a purple cloth pulled over his face and then bolts upright appearing to gasp for breath -- like he'd been holding it. The 39 people who died did so in stages with those that died later putting a purple cloth over the faces of the people dying before them (except for the last two). Also, they tied a plastic bag over their own head after ingesting sedatives to ensure that they would asphyxiate after falling asleep.
I just read about the Heaven's gate cult and Marshall Applewhite, these people didn't deserve to die but i thank drab majesty into taking us to an imaginary case of "what if they did go to where they were promosed?"
I was already in love with Drab, then I found out Deb was fascinated by other worldly cults like heavens gate.... Their music and imagery reflects the beautiful strangeness of the unknown world like no other band... i want to cry
@DCM88 Those cults are hateful and want to hurt people, so I doubt he'd be into it. Drab are sweet boys. So to be more precise... the "gothic" genre is about what Victor Sage calls the "dark epiphany," which focuses on the sins of the past, and on the evil things that people do with power. And there is usually a measure of terror and horror at these tragedies, one or the other, and sadness. That's very different from being in a hateful cult that takes pleasure in hurting people. That is not a good thing, and it's very sad to see people sanctioning things like that in this day and age. If you take my advice, I wouldn't dabble in things like that.

3 years now listening to this masterpiece, it never gets old and never will...the perfection of the atmosphere, melody and sounds resonates deep, like living in an 80s realm I know I’ve never lived and never existed but still it’s too damn real to be just an illusion if that makes sense. Born in the tail later years of the wonderful 80s decade, I can still respect the appreciation! Wish I was born in the 70s. Early 90s had some amazing music too. Later 2000s really disappointed hard. This was my first song I listened to from Drab Majesty. I somehow had some familiarity with the subject matter. I know about the Heaven's Gate incident as a child in the 90s because I've always have been interested in the paranormal in general. This is extremely original due to the fact that I don't truly see much music about stuff like this. Cool sound btw.

Having been born in 86, I didn’t get to truly experience the magic of the 80’s. I can’t thank Deb and Mona enough for giving me the opportunity to experience such an oddly nostalgic feeling for a time I didn’t get to experience in a truly meaningful way. I can remember being a young child in 1990 and hearing Enjoy the Silence blasting from my big sister’s room and loving it. How my sister must have felt to have a synth wave group like Depeche Mode to fall in love with, I now have the same in Drab Majesty. Thank you Drab Majesty for making the 2020’s the 80’s I never got to experience. I’m eternally grateful. 👽💜

I love how they embodied the sentiment around Heaven’s Gate. Sadness for the families of the 39. But also a sense of empathy and compassion for people who followed their convictions via ritual. The fans wore Pink, suits and tons of other handmade DIY and colorful things. People focus too much on defining Goth on the bands alone when the bands reject being called Goth.

I like his hand gestures when he is explaining to you things about life. Those gestures cary the weight and one should listen to his explanations. He captured the essence of living.
I love the cinematography/acting in this music video. Looking in the mirror at himself, the 2 debs stacked on top of each other, siting in white plastic chairs gesturing dramatically. The “monster” deb shrouded in white, strangely moving about and aggressively leaning towards the camera. All the while in a strobe light manner the screen cutting black multiple times a second adding obscurity and other elements. I’d say Drab’s best 2 music videos are this one and then Out of sequence, was amazing as well.

this is so good! no, seriously, I saw them live several times and it was astonishing every single time! I had the chance to talk briefly to Mona and Deb, and they were so tender and open and really smart! we talked about music and influences in general - very insightful, those lads!

It never ceases to amaze me just how 80's this is. I mean right down to the often awkward acting, and strange camera angles.

I am including myself as I say this, in today's globalised world with its exceedingly fast distribution of bad news - deaths, catastrophes, murders, and so on - people tend to lose sensibility and empathy.
I am thankful to Drab Demure for reminding me of my humanity.
Some details in this video you may not have noticed: In the beginning of the video the character wearing glasses has a purple cloth pulled over his face and then bolts upright appearing to gasp for breath -- like he'd been holding it. The 39 people who died did so in stages with those that died later putting a purple cloth over the faces of the people dying before them (except for the last two). Also, they tied a plastic bag over their own head after ingesting sedatives to ensure that they would asphyxiate after falling asleep.
I just read about the Heaven's gate cult and Marshall Applewhite, these people didn't deserve to die but i thank drab majesty into taking us to an imaginary case of "what if they did go to where they were promosed?"
I was already in love with Drab, then I found out Deb was fascinated by other worldly cults like heavens gate.... Their music and imagery reflects the beautiful strangeness of the unknown world like no other band... i want to cry

So to be more precise... the "gothic" genre is about what Victor Sage calls the "dark epiphany," which focuses on the sins of the past, and on the evil things that people do with power. And there is usually a measure of terror and horror at these tragedies, one or the other, and sadness. That's very different from being in a hateful cult that takes pleasure in hurting people. That is not a good thing, and it's very sad to see people sanctioning things like that in this day and age. If you take my advice, I wouldn't dabble in things like that.

Born in the tail later years of the wonderful 80s decade, I can still respect the appreciation! Wish I was born in the 70s. Early 90s had some amazing music too. Later 2000s really disappointed hard. We need to revive emotion in our music...wet ass something (WAP) is just gross and not very resonant with deeper emotion of the nation.

This song and video makes me feel like my previous life was someone in the 80's who died in a car accident while listening to this song even though it wasn't released yet
Feels like a long continuous thunderstorm filling the black sky with purple lighting and the smell we all remember from our childhoods playing in the rain
This was my first song I listened to from Drab Majesty. I somehow had some familiarity with the subject matter. I know about the Heaven's Gate incident as a child in the 90s because I've always have been interested in the paranormal in general.
This is extremely original due to the fact that I don't truly see much music about stuff like this. Cool sound btw.

Having been born in 86, I didn’t get to truly experience the magic of the 80’s. I can’t thank Deb and Mona enough for giving me the opportunity to experience such an oddly nostalgic feeling for a time I didn’t get to experience in a truly meaningful way. I can remember being a young child in 1990 and hearing Enjoy the Silence blasting from my big sister’s room and loving it. How my sister must have felt to have a synth wave group like Depeche Mode to fall in love with, I now have the same in Drab Majesty. Thank you Drab Majesty for making the 2020’s the 80’s I never got to experience. I’m eternally grateful. 👽💜

I love how they embodied the sentiment around Heaven’s Gate. Sadness for the families of the 39. But also a sense of empathy and compassion for people who followed their convictions via ritual. That’s not to romanticize what happened either. Like the song embodies everything. Humans have sought answers for as long as we’ve existed. “Eternal point of view”…

The fans wore Pink, suits and tons of other handmade DIY and colorful things. People focus too much on defining Goth on the bands alone when the bands reject being called Goth.

I love the cinematography/acting in this music video. Looking in the mirror at himself, the 2 debs stacked on top of each other, siting in white plastic chairs gesturing dramatically. The “monster” deb shrouded in white, strangely moving about and aggressively leaning towards the camera. All the while in a strobe light manner the screen cutting black multiple times a second adding obscurity and other elements. I’d say Drab’s best 2 music videos are this one and then Out of sequence, was amazing as well.
