Of course, just because you are compelled to do it doesn't mean you have to do it. Although, I do agree with you that his environment helped fostering the monster which he became. If there is one person Dio truly loved with his heart, it is his mother. Seeing what the world did to her is definitely what set him off in the first place. edit: Well, after reading part 7. I can definitely say Dario's gene plays a big part on his rise in villainy.

He ruined his relationship with his love interest and forever disgraced here, it was the 1880s) and was planning to not only kill his father with poison but Jonathan himself with the mask too. The entire point of him rejecting his humanity is that he could do so because he was pure evil. He hated being like his father because he also hated him. Nothing to do with being evil. Hell his mother wasn't.

I would have liked if when Dio died Johnathan was waiting for him and lead him to the next life that would have been amazing them.getting reunited after so long and Dio breaking down crying on Johnathan while they hug
I think Araki really missed an opportunity there, considering the whole "Joestar legacy" was the relationship between Jonathan and Dio. Them reconciling in the afterlife would mean the blood feud was over and symbolise a new beginning for the family (like extra closure that I seriously missed when Part 3 ended).

He was originally meant to be able to use all Stand abilities of the Joestar bloodline, that's why he uses Hermit Purple and The World and Star Platinum have the same ability, but it got scrapped and Araki never bothered to remove the leftovers. He also got degraded in intelligence (just repeatedly sending random Stand users to get rid of the team) and overall was a pale shadow of Part 1 Dio. Araki tried so much to keep him as pure evil that the whole Jonathan thing got shelved as a result and Jotaro became Dio's Joestar opponent, invalidating Part 1 almost completely. Makes me sad to see a great relationship and plot point go to waste because #Arakiforgot that he gave Dio a fucking personality.

He finally realizes how fond he'd grown of Jonathan and offers him eternity right before Jonathan dies and leaves him alone for 100 years to think about how he ended up destroying the only person who showed him unconditional friendship. Dio even mentions in his (speculatively cannon) memoirs, the novel Over Heaven, that killing him is the thing he regrets most since he saw Jonathan as the only person worthy of his respect.

Dio is singing the entire song. He's calling Jonathan cold because he left him.
*Part 1 Spoilers (though it's been 25 years, spoilers should be ok now)*
It's basically playing out like the manga did. He finally realizes how fond he'd grown of Jonathan and offers him eternity right before Jonathan dies and leaves him alone for 100 years to think about how he ended up destroying the only person who showed him unconditional friendship. Dio even mentions in his (speculatively cannon) memoirs, the novel Over Heaven, that killing him is the thing he regrets most since he saw Jonathan as the only person worthy of his respect.
