Tamara, you totally rock. Lol you definitely got my respect when you used tape as a band aid. One cool chick. With skills too boot. Keep it coming kiddo. Big fan!!
I used your plans and video to make the keyboard stand this past summer. It turned out great. I used 3/4" cabinet grade maple plywood and constructed the legs from 3/4" pine boards that I glued up. I even installed the soft closed hinge, which the grandchildren love. The only thing that I didn't do was taper the legs to give it more of a shaker look. This was supposed to be a prototype built from scrap wood I had from other projects, but it turned out so well that it is now in our living room. I love your channel and look forward to your projects and the fact that you will attempt almost anything, including working in a cold shop in winter. Thank you!
my 15 yo son has a keyboard too. this would look great either in his room or in the sitting room. can't wait to make one for him. thanks for yet another great vid. :)
This looks killer! Elegant work Tamar. To install the top of anything I usually lay the piece down so the top is on a flat surface and prop it up or the piece up accordingly.
So I made one myself using the plans from your website. I came out really nice. The only thing I would caution future builders about is the with of the stand. Make sure that u leave about 2 in on each side of your keyboard. Since keyboard differ in size each stand should be unique. I didnt take that into account and was not able to put the slow close lod stay because of spacing issues. Other than that it was an awsome build thank you so much !!
Hand tools! Make great furniture, like your piece, possible. Gorgeous project. I flatten most of my boards by hand, then use the DW 735 to create that parallel surface on the other side like you did. Curved blade on the jack or fore plane helps, makes it quick(er). Heard a little 'Smokestack Lightening, Howl'n Wolf, 1964' in that piano solo at the end. A little more practice....
Really elegant design and proportions, with beautiful grain on that walnut. Just couldn't resist that 'signature' bit of brass, could you ;-) I don't have a dowel jig any more , so I got some drill bush inserts in a couple of sizes to make up my own guides / jigs. These inserts have serrated outsides and are a press-fit into standard holes. In my case 15 mm outside for an 8 mm dowel , using MDF for the jig construction. So no marking out for lots of dowels or custom patterns ! I'm in the UK and I'm sure you could get these in the US if your interested.
Wow looks great looks classical in my eyes. Just nice smooth work. You are right a lot of walnut work I do I add brass and it pops out. Great work Tamar. Also awesome with the Lil Cheekie-D playing Harry Potter theme. I’m 36 and a huge fan of HARRY POTTER!!!!!
Wow! Wonderful Idea, Nice Tools collection, Great use of tools, and raw materials, equally great workmanship. And a lovely finished product as a result. Satisfying!
Excellent video and cool build. Just bought my girlfriend a nice keyboard for Christmas, and she's hoping to do something like this with it. Thanks for the inspiration!
I watched four youtube woodworking videos this morning and yours was the best.I liked your techniques , choice of tools and joinery. I also love the look of walnut and brass. Very nice project. You use a lot of neat tricks, you look like you have been doing this for a long time. Danny
I saw this project behind you in your latest video and had to find it, great job on the project it looks amazing, now it's off to build one for my wife taking inspiration from your design. Thanks for the inspiration.
Great Job! Congrats. When the video finished I was exhaust I just bougth a digital piano and I ‘ll try to do something as good as yours. I’ll keep dreaming
Thank You so much for this. I have a custom keyboard stand to make and I am going to use quite a bit from your design. I really love your stuff as you are straight forward without using sex appeal to get your subscribers. Thank You again. GOOD STUFF
awesome piece, build and video! I love how your kiddo is playing Harry Potter! My son is learning piano and I think something similar your build would be perfect in my home!
Utilize your taper jig to get that True straight edge cut. You can eyeball this pretty good, especially with your long bubble level. Less setup than the router. A good rip blade will leave smooth edges. Then flip the board around and run that fresh cut edge along the saw fence. This keyboard stand build is very attractive.. I as well own a decent keyboard and it has no stand. Glad I decided to visit your channel, I would have otherwise missed this build. Nice job...
Any reason why you didn't use solid wood for the back with a groove for the plywood and more dowels? I'm just curious if there is some wood expansion issue I'm missing. Nice build!
You are sooo wonderful! It's so inspiring to see a woman to do this kind of work. It's beautiful when you show your force of will to do it and you actually love it. Very proud of ya! Thank you for all female' encouragement! God bless ya!
You are really good at this wood-working thing! Incredibly accurate and determined to do it right, whether machined or manual. You'd survive in the 1700s with crude tools and still be making great pieces.
I have a recommendation. Since the keys aren't covered, you really should get a felt cover for them, otherwise dust will start to build up inside the keys and that's a pain to clean. It looks great!
You're doing a great job with your woodworking skills. A fast learner, and you do great videos and editing. Thanks for sharing! Barry - Canyon Lake, Texas
Something like this (along with a proper piano stool) is on my build-list for this year. The x-shaped stand my daughter's piano sits on is a complete pain - the keyboard isn't held securely and wobbles around, and you can't tuck a chair underneath it properly when not in use which eats into the floorspace of what is quite a small and busy room. I had planned to just use plywood, but this might tempt me to splurge a bit more and get something a bit nicer.
A really nice build. I enjoyed your solution to working without a jointer. This summer I made a live edge counter top from 8/4 olive wood (2690 on the hardness scale) because it was too wide for any jointer in my small town in Italy, I had to dress it in the old fashioned way. Much as you did to your walnut. For the initial removal of material a scrub plane made the job easier.
Awesome job! I've thought about this for years. Cables are a huge pet peeve of mine. You should drill a cable port on the back at the right end so the power cable comes out next to the leg instead of the middle and showing along the floor. Beautiful end result. Thank you for the inspiration!
That came out really nice-Excellant job!. I am going to make one just like it. Just a thought... If the pocket holes bother you, next time (if there is a next time) maybe install the pocket hole screws on the inside where they won't show. Also, there are wood plugs made to fit the pocket holes that can be glued in place to help disguise the holes. Another option would be to use small decorative corner bracing on the inside. So I am off to build mine exactly like yours only using cherry lumber. Thanks again for sharing!
Fantastic project, beautiful result. i agree keeping the curved edge, makes it much nicer. the ones i have seen that are boxes on lgs look like coffins,to me. your build is really elegant
You may have pushed me over the edge with this one. I have had this on my project list for a few years now, and then I see your video. Guess it is time to move it up, and just do it!
That’s beautiful! I’ve been thinking about making something like this for my wife’s keyboard forever but couldn’t picture it until now. I think I have my next project... thanks for sharing!
@@3x3CustomTamar hi Tamar, if you are in to Harry potter Pam at highlandboxes on Instagram is making some very cool pen blanks with a Harry potter themed colours. They look awesome. You would need a lathe which is where I fall down! But they are good to look at all the same. 😀
What an excellent 'piece the resistance'! You are showing some real skills here. The design idea and build are just great. I enjoyed watching this and am getting inspired to build one myself. Well done!
Beautiful build! I looked at the keyboard stand plans but I could not figure out the thickness of the sides and also the thickness of the board for the legs.
This is great. I am taking jazz piano classes on Artistworks. Well, I have an 88 key Yamaha keyboard. I have been lifting it up over a bench, laying the case on a chair and then carrying it into my room. My back is gone. haha I hurt it a few weeks ago, trying to pull a fence out of weeds. I thought it was better. But this, would allow me to keep the piano out. Thing is, I have no space in my room. But, if I added wheels to the thing, I would feel it out and back in when I needed it. Let the tools come alive.
That came out really nice, I actually like the reveal of the keyboard. Extra bonus points for Harry Potter.
Thanks so much nick! I like it as well! Glad I decided to change up the design! All things Harry Potter in my house.... ha!
3x3Custom - Tamar Oh, and I love the brass accents! Walnut and brass are so amazing together.
The Every Maker - Nick wish everything in my house could be walnut and brass. Ha!
I love the hand tools you use to carve to walnut wood as all of your tools beautiful work as always you never disappoint

TOTALLY cool. I hit "like" only 30 seconds in because of how you implemented the cushion closer. Awesome.

You really have some mad woodworking skills excellent job on that keyboard bench

Awesome. Good luck!
You could always get a long piece of felt in your choice of color to cover the keys when not in use to keep dust off/out of the keys.
True! Havnt had any issues with it yet though. Except my kids coloring on the keys. But they color on everything. EVERYTHING! Ha
I finally did it myself. Thank you very much for this design idea!!!

That gives the Keyboard more of a piano/organ look.
Great job on the design Tamar.
