This is one of the coolest desk builds I've ever seen! I've been self-teaching the piano for about 3 years now. I picked up a Roland FP-30 a few weeks into my journey with it, and something I've always wanted was a desk to combine the piano and other things (like my computer) into one space. Especially since I primarily used my Roland hooked up to my computer anyway. I've never done woodworking in my life, nor have I ever built a desk in my life. Built lots of things, lots of handcrafted arts and crafts projects and electronics projects, but never anything involving woodworking. I didn't even know how to create some kind of slide-out drawer. I appreciate this video very much, because it gives me an idea of what kind of things I will need to do in order to build my ultimate "dream desk". Currently my FP-30 sits on the way too expensive Roland wooden furniture stand with built-in pedals. One of these days I just might cut up some wood and throw something together like this :). Thank you for taking the time to build this and show the process. I appreciate it very much.
So glad you took time for yourself to heal and come back stronger, a lesson for everyone creating content on TH-cam. I have really enjoyed the whole apartment series of videos Cris, bravo.
I admire all ur wrk. Im 69 yrs old & in my next life i would be a carpenter just because of you. You really care about your creations. You are also very detailed which helps a lot for us to learn & understand. Tyvvm I enjoy watching your work.
I showed this video to my parents on the evening it came out: both were very impressed with your skills and versatility! Your attention to precision and detail is phenomenal, Cris. I guess now that the tiny apartment nears being finished, you still have enough ideas to keep you occupied, right 😂 I really enjoy watching your videos and am glad that you had your time off to take car of your health. It's what many of us don't do enough… Stay safe and enjoy your home and nature, now that spring is coming. All the best, Micha.
Your level of organization is beyond belief. Truly an inspiration. Every single girl growing up should balance her Barbie exposure with common sense like this. Dolls don't make things and solve problems.....our minds and ingenuity do. Women can bring so much to the construction sector and until now have been largely ignored. Well everyone loses when that happens. You are a stark testament to that. We all can do so much more if we just start and let it just flow, unimpeded by society and its conventions and expectations. Wipe that all aside and start fresh. Finding a channel like this is like finding mental gold. Thank you for taking the care and time to bless us with your incredible skills and work. It uplifts people everywhere.
Very inspirational! Not that I am a pianist or anything, but I do like to see how other people tackle their space constraints. It's an increasingly topical issue, especially in urban environments, that forces us to critically reflect on how we use space, without compromising too much on other fronts.
So good to see you back! I briefly visited Portugal last year, and wanted to check out some materials we don't have here in the states. This built-in, brava!!!
Very cool. I made a table a few years ago for my son, but he had more space. This time I'll make a smaller one and you gave me some great ideas. And congratulations for making the project available. A big hug from Brazil.
I hope you gained new strength, rested. You have to allow yourself to rest from time to time. As always, I feel inspired by my own projects. Thank you very much.
I really like the cleanliness and the rigorosity of the design of your works, still not compromising with functionality and taking advantage of every cube inch of space
Hey, glad to see you back ! 'forced to rest my body and mind'. Yeah, i've been there. Take care of yourself. Don't let TH-cam pressure take the best of you. There is only one of you. This is a very nice build. I need a piano desk, yours gives me a lot of ideas. Take care !
This video has helped me solve an Incredibly niche problem that I’m facing. I have such a small office and all of the things I own (and want to keep) are big. This is such and great design. Thanks you for sharing the videos that arnt “mass market” stuff. This kind of content is why TH-cam is such an awesome platform! Much love 🇦🇺
This is my most favourite build on the entire TH-cam. I always had to consider space issues when thinking of purchasing a piano and I always put it off because of that. This became my dream project & I hope I can give it a try one day
I actually built this a year and a half ago after seeing the original Murphy bed video you posted and I realized I needed an environment change during covid, so I built my own Murphy bed, reused an old couch as the moveable legs and made the desk from scraps. The whole desk was exactly like this one only it used the cabenit as a support so it was not floating (as a tip the middle of the piano shelf may start to bow after extended playing or from wear and tear). Great video though, I never had the courage to film myself building it all.
I've been watching your videos for many years. I've seen you evolve and get better and better at what you do. Your creativity is very inspiring. Keep getting hands dirty, In a few weeks i will begin getting mine dirty too. Thanks.
So happy to see you back! Love the project - a great use of scrap wood. The hard maple provides a great contrast. I've used the paste wax trick with screws in various hardwoods, and it makes a huge difference.
Superb work as usual. Where you impress is the way your work looks, it is always beautifully designed, not just well made, and it looks different to anything made by others. Before I start my next round of work for my home I will rewatch some of your videos to get ideas for ways to use colour and contrast.
this is incredible, i’ve been struggling with needing more desk space in my office but do not have another place in my house to put my keyboard. this is the perfect solution and will prevent my cat from getting her dirty little paws all over the keys. beautiful work as always!
I should have found your TH-cam channel sooner. Great work with this desk! I'm a hobby-pianist and a civil engineer and I will make this project one day. I love your channel already, keep it up!
I’m always impressed by your ability to visualize your designs, especially regarding the Tiny Apartment space. Your solutions are clean and elegant. You’re one of my favorite makers.
Looks great, nice work on all the stopped cuts for handles. Your clamp wall looks good, for some reason I thought it was going to be on the wall opposite the door to the balcony. Cute gloves.
Glad to see you back. So sorry you’ve been ill. You make some lovely stuff. You remind me very much of my middle daughter. She enjoys getting her hands dirty but doesn’t have your facilities and is too far away to use mine. She’s moving closer soon I hope. Keep doing what you do please. Graham Manchester UK.
Maybe consider adding synchronisation rods, since the drawer is much wider then it is deep and the slides are not rated to function properly for this width
Thought about it, problem is, the Blum ones would get in the middle of the leg cutout area, defeating its purpose once the bar is there. Doesn't work too bad as is, honestly.
Thank you. This is exactly what I needed. I thought about other ways to have table/piano combo, but this one looks both decent and efficient to use (no folding/flipping/tetris).
That is really clever and nice looking! We have a piano in our living room like this and it is honestly an eyesore in the cabinet it is in now. This was great inspiration. Thanks for sharing and glad you are doing better health wise.
Hi, Cristiana - so glad you're back, and well. I have a desk in my office, and a very clumsy arrangement for my Yamaha electronic keyboard. This is just the thing for it!
Thank you! This looks just awesome. I won't tell anyone about the secret drawer... Welcome back! Take your time for the following vids. No hurry, no worry.
❤ man you are a genius. That’s what I need! I don’t have tools and stuff though. The best I could do is buy a desk that can rise to standing height and out it at the end of my bed. I put my keyboard in front toward me, towards the bed. Then I set the laptop stand behind it. I can set the height according to what I am doing, but it would be nice to slide the keyboard away or put for use. Beautiful 🤩 💕
I have had several keyboards over the years, my previous and current keyboard both being 88-note keyboards with the previous one being pretty heavy, and it took up so much space. I've rented rooms for the past several years and 'where to put the keyboard' has always been an issue. This is a great solution, while looking very nice. I almost fell off my chair when you said you were 'going to make the cabinet' as well; didn't expect that. I just thought you were building the desk. I assumed you got the desk from one of th0se fancy manufacturers.
From France, September 2023 I'm watching your video again, just for fun, it's even better than looking at works of art: I absolutely don't know how to DIY and therefore admire your professional work. And beyond knowing how to “tinker” you still need to have the sophisticated equipment to achieve it. The idea of saving space is really ingenious, and what's more, it's also aesthetically pleasing. For my keyboard model, there are small holes underneath on the left and right for the speakers. If this is also the case for your keyboard, have you thought about creating ventilation in the wood to avoid overheating? As far as I'm concerned, I was lucky that my keyboard could fit exactly in the "shell" of my old clavinova which was irreparable (I had the entire interior of the clavinova removed, and was then able to fit my new keyboard inside, and you really have to look twice to detect this new installation). BRAVO for your work and thank you for sharing it.
Your videos are right to the point, just enough detail, no fluff. I thank you for sharing your projects, skill and learning experiences. I wish all sites were this could. Very good narrative. Please keep posting. Love your shop too. :)
I'm glad you came back after a long time with a new project. As always, perfect and neat workmanship and interesting tools. The hiding place in the plinth is great.
I love the little rolling cabinet, with the secret drawer! It is so functional, cute, and nice! I was quite surprised you didn't make two of them... for more storage and a more symmetrical look! Just a thought!
UN GRAN SALUDO DESDE PERÚ..ME DA MUCHO GUSTO QUE HAYAS SUBIDO UN VIDEO LA VERDAD QUE TIENES UN GRAN TALENTO LO QUE TU HACES .TE ADMIRO MUCHO..MUCHAS BENDICIONES
You can also make a piece of covering over the digital piano as the height of the digital piano is mostly about the same height as the normal desktop. In this manner you can still let your digital piano remain portable (movable) while extending the table breadth.
I hate finishing drawers too, so I always apply finish to components before assembly ( masking glue areas of course.) Like those drawer fronts ! Good to see you back 😁
Fantastic work, Cris! Really beautiful!!! 😃 I wish you good health! Specially mental health, we're all needing it in this crazy times. 😕 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I love this project, but I'd want to make it an electric standup desk (i.e. height adjustable)? That way you can get the desk or piano to the exact height needed.
Such a great project Cristina! I was actually thinking of how I could incorporate my electric piano into my desk to record music more efficiently, and this seems like a perfect solution. I don't have the carpenter skills to make something like this myself, but it's still a joy seeing you do it.
Yellow-blue-red-blue-yellow-blue-yellow-blue-red-blue-yellow...Dang! Even the order and sequence of your clamp handles and heads is a syncopated, 3D color composition. Nobody could be in any doubt that you've spent a LOT of your life focusing on artistic expression, both visual and musical. (So glad to see you back on line, but even more glad to hear you took time to restore your health and state of mind.)
I'm watching your videos for several years now and love the clean and classy look of your builds combined with high quality craftsmanship.
I can say the same for your videos etoe😎👌
I am surprised to see martin sir here😄😄
I would love a full tour of the tiny apartment once it's finished!
Yes, great idea!

You're back! I miss your videos. As always minimalistic and beautiful

amazing! you got a new subscriber!
I love how functional this is.
Love this desk, so stylish. Great to have you back, I hope your time away has helped you feel refreshed.
