KTM 1090/1190/1290 Top Box Case luggage, latch, & lock Repair - Super Adventure/R/T Touring! 42L

in this video i disassemble my 2015 (2013-2017) ktm 1290 (1190&1090) SA to fix a sticky lock and latch. i go step by step and disassemble the lock, latch, slide, key, etc to get into the innermost part of the bag and clean & lube it all up.
after all my work, the box still does not work well.
if i am doing something wrong, please let me know in the comments below.

Thank you for taking the time to put this video together. I agree that these boxes, all the mechanisms, and plastic parts suck. After many tries on my own and requesting help from the KTM dealer, I decided to sell my boxes ... no luck. I tried to then give my left and right side box away ... no takers ... trash. I still have the top box, and will clean accordingly, but fear its useful life is coming to an end for my 2016 1290 SA.

Thanks! The two pins the the top latches lock on to came out on mine. I was able to watch your video and see the missing e-clips at 4:39 hiding inside. I went to the hardware store, bought M4 e-clips, took the lock apart following your instructions, reinstalled the 2 pins and associated e-clips and put everything back together. Thanks again!

Thank you for this guidance. My KTM Top Box locking mechanism failed after very little use. It turned out to be due to the small screw within the locking mechanism becoming slightly loose. It appeared tight enough upon my initial inspection; however, after reviewing BikeParts365 video and further inspection, I concluded it was not tight enough (from the factory I believe). Now very tight, with locktight applied, I am hoping for the best out of this poorly designed box.

I was going to buy these (new), as I like top load doors and close to frame design. Now I’m worried?

I can only speak to my personal experiences. I’d buy good frame mount frames and some nice waterproof soft bags.

@@bikeparts3653 Thx. I really like how one of these bags is different in size (around exhaust) to maintain symmetry. I'm not a fan of most aftermarket solutions as the exhaust side cases are sticking out much further than the other side.

I have them since 2016. I rarely use the side ones (maybe 1-2 times every year), but I use the center one every single day. Never had an issue with them. I spray some lube in the buttons, lock and mechanisms and it works perfectly.
I also like their symmetry left and right, and the fact that they all work with the bike's key.
