... To be honest, Chris' grasp on color theory isn't too bad. Yeah, he was limited with his insistence on using Crayola markers exclusively, but the color pallets for each character is pretty solid, and you can see distinctive details for each bit. Even the consistency of making sure his character's shirt had the correct stripes.

      @faustmeth  3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

Hey Rae, nice to see you here. It isn't bad, but I doubt he was using a color chart and actual theory.

      @@faustmeth Hey~
Yeah, I don't think he was using any charts or anything, but his choice of colors per character are appealing enough on a basic level. Like, nothing too garish, but still limited by the insistence of using Crayola colors (Crayola isn't a bad art company, but thier usual pigments are just bright because they're made for kids mostly. I have Crayola pencils and crayons in my art supplies since they pair well with other brands and are cost effective, but it's also mostly a nostalgia thing for me).
Probably the most underrated detail Chris has done is probably that Naitsirhc's eyes are orange and red, which are the opposite colors of the blue and green that Chris uses for himself. And he's fairly consistent with that detail, even though it's not given as much attention as his own odd colored eyes for Comic!Chris. :P

Another sad thing is when Chris could have actually poured more of his heart and efforts on improving his art so he could make Sonichu better, he had wasted all those on futily trying to get himself some... "China". His life is one big reminder what uncontrolled sexual lust can really do to a person.

I think the sad thing is, we as artists fall into the temptation of preoccupying ourselves we think are necessary and distraction holds us down.
With the recent developments in CC's life, I don't think the potential will ever be realized. I could be wrong but atm it looks rather bleak. We will just have to wait and see.

Another contribution to his delay of developing the comic is because of “stress”. He claims the stress from the trolls causes him to feel too stressed to work on the comic. Or maybe that’s his excuse as an alternative to say he is too lazy to continue unless he feels like it or until the public acts more nice to him. The troll stress I don’t believe as an excuse. He rides the belief he is an artist but can’t take criticism. All artists have to take the pain of their work being judged. If he produced more comics regardless of the trolls, he would have been more respected instead of ridiculed for his drawing and story telling abilities regardless of how bad his style is.

4:50 I believe, that to be an effective comic-book artist, one needs to be a good artist AND storyteller, though one can get away with only being one of the two.
My best examples, Todd McFarlane is a great artist, but IMHO, not a strong storyteller, while Hirohiko Araki, if you back before "Jojo's Bizarre Adventure" to his earlier work, "Baoh", he isn't really a strong artist, but his storytelling just draws you in!

In my opinion, in the classic era of Chris Chan, Sonichus art reminded me of Sonic X. I think I see it most in how Chris draws eyes and the anatomy of the sonic the hedgehog redesigns

The thing is, Chris will never apply himself, he will never learn art. Cause he is convinced that he is already good enough, that his webcomic is worth of getting an official videogame adaptation by Sega/Nintendo, and anyone who disagrees is a nasty troll.
His art doesn't hold a candle even to other outsider artists such as Wesley Willis or Henry Darger.

Chris's art just make me sad for some reason, like it takes me to my own childhood when i made drawings of similar quality. For some reason even fond memories of my youth make me melancholic and seeing a form of my own past in the creations of a random person just hits me in this strange way.

One thing Chris needs to do to truly improve:
Hold the fucking pencil correctly. The way I see Chris holds the pencil cringes the shit out of me. Trying his grip out for myself had strained my hand in a very short time and not to mention its gives shit control over the pencil and I cant imagine why the hell anyone would do it.
And I imagine this is one of the reasons why Chris is always stressed from drawing - this physically hurts him and I find why he finds it hard to get on and draw.

There was an unproduced documentary called "Chris Chan vs. the Internet". A film student paid Chris and Barb $2000 and stayed with them for 2 weeks. He made a trailer and a kickstarter for funding, but he was doxxed and harassed by people from Kiwifarms and scrapped the entire project. The trailer and the first 15 seconds used to be on TH-cam, but it appears to have been removed.
The footage there is from the trailer.

Tracing honestly is ok if your practicing or trying to understand how to draw something. But thats what I feel its best suited for, practice. I admit though I've had to trace a few times, mostly things like hands. I did so for one pic I did of Sutter Cane, and another time I traced only a bit but ended up tracing most of the design. I still posted it, but I didn't bother to put my watermark on it as I felt it is unearned to claim the work.

What I dislike about his art is also what makes it so okay-ish, but honestly the storyline’s are just trash. I’ve tried reading some and they’re just bloody stupid. His hand drawn style makes it look very amateur and cheap, but that’s because it is. If it was done digitally and colours were full and didn’t have lines and streaks, Chris isn’t talented enough to add shading and depth and it would just be garbage. For what it is, which is an adult man with a child’s mentality, who essentially draws for therapy, it’s quite acceptable. I have a lot of skits and panel style comics in my mind, but I can’t draw for shit, and I’m not going to pay for someone to draw them, because I have no idea how I’d ever sell them or monetise them, because it’s totally foreign to me.
