@Just Some Guy Without a Mustang I never said it's good. I said it's a different culture. And YES, it actually IS a matter of culture, otherwise, how come people know it WILL affect their health in the long run, yet still keep working that way? And that doesn't concern only mangaka, it's a problem that affects MANY layers of the Japanese society. They know it's not good, they still do it. It's their culture, whether you accept it or not.

Kentaro Miura died before completing his story which means he died having created a perfect series rather than rushing. Let’s be thankful he left a big impact on artist and games. Without him there would be no dark fantasy.
I disagree. It should serve as warning or lesson for artist not sacrifice too much for minor things. This is no different than American corporate culture that encourages crunching. Life is more than burning yourself.
This is very true, I’m only 18 and I started drawing my own manga about 3 months ago and I’m only on the 11th page, what’s even more insane is that I started actually planning my story 4 years ago, and I still haven’t even finished the first chapter…let that sink in.

And still people on Twitter send death threats, and harass Mangakas every week. As an Asian, it's disappointing to see how many people illegally consume Manga yet have the audacity to complain and nitpick. Usually in Physical Volumes, correction in Art and dialogues is done but I see every week people just bashing and comparing Mangakas' art and insulting them. People need to understand that every Mangaka is different. Not everyone draws like Inoue Sensei, not every story I same yet they insult creators by comparing them. I am happy that some Mangakas don't use Social media much, it's disheartening to see people harassing you when you were simply putting your hard work out there for people to enjoy.
@@chilltfdown5832 There is no denying that people who cannot afford Manga will read it illegally and I know some Mangas like Kingdom do not have official Translation also so people go for scanlations. that's why it would be good to buy physical or digital manga, instead of reading it from illegal sites.I know that a lot of readers can't afford it, but if you do, please support the manga artists
On that topic, manga is generally much cheaper buying inside Japan compared to international physical releases. $20 a volume for me can be under $5 a volume for someone inside Japan
i think we as readers need to encourage mangkas take more breaks. i don’t mind waiting for the next chapter their physical and mental health is more important.
This is why making a chapter per month should be a standard, I prefer such mangas like AoT or Hanako-kun where I know I always get a high quality of both art and storytelling each month without feeling sorry for the creators possibly overworking themselves to death.
ONG HANAKO KUN !!!! the artstyle is AMAZING i honestly understand why it takes 1 month because the arr is gorgeous. Never met anyone who likes aot and tbhk 😭😭 im a huge fan of both lol
This is why I have a whole different level of respect for the authors and mangaka artists that bust their asses with very little sleep and breaks, just to get the chapters done.
i didnt expect you here but i know that you are everywhere and i also see your point in this comment. i have never wondered how much effort mangakas spend until i saw this video
@@Whatismusic123 it is also common knowledge that he went into hiatus to play dragon quest. (a good amount of his hiatus coincides with the release date of several dragon quest games) sure health is a problem but as obsesive as they get with drawing they get with other things
And this is exactly why ending a manga is one of the most challenging and stressful task. On one hand, these mangaka would finally get a free break where they could get a full sleep, party, or returm to family. On the other hand, you also have to end the story in the most satisfying way possible for fans. To do that, you would need to brainstorming and draw your part as best as you could. Which mean even more stress, more lack of sleep and more malnutrition.
Well, I think that's a common misunderstanding about writing. You need to have a well structured plot and very high level writing skills in order to write a good story. It has nothing to do with your health. People sacrifice it to write better stories, but it has no correlation to whether or not your story is good its just hussle culture. It feels like the story it better because I suffered for it.
Nad don't forget ending your story might means ending your contract which means no money, or your editor rushed you to make another series/story once it ends
@@karakurie that's actually true. I'm not a writer, but I'm an artist, and there's this saying that I learned. "Learn how to choose your battles". The thing is, you don't have to risk your health to craft a good story, or to make a good artwork. I know that's easy for me to say, but there are many shortcuts that can be done. You don't have to fight every battle presented at you, you can just choose the ones that will work the best and work on it, so like in art, put detail and more effort on that the viewers can see the most, like areas of light, or the face, and just leave things that aren't gonna be seen empty. Or in writing, just write the characters you wanna write, and flesh out parts of the plot that are important. You don't have to worry too much about the backstory of a character that wouldn't even make any impact
@@karakurie That's a vast oversimplification of writing a large form comic as a mangaka though. It's true that anyone can write a great story with years / decades of free time to think, create, edit edit edit, etc. But these authors don't have time to write / draw out the entire decades long story before they release it (usually just a huge overview of the plot), as you can't predict if it will even get approved or canceled before the 1st chapter. From there, things inevitably change over the course of the story and shift in ways not even the best author can predict (unless it's a really basic, easy story). There's also expectations of how much satisfying plot each week to give readers, and they complain if a chapter is too short or boring (even though as a whole in the story, it's fine), or if one little mistake slipped past you, and it snowballs from there. You then have to adjust each week. And as each week goes on, over the years, you get a little more tired every day. And that's not even the drawing of it. That's all to say, it's not hustle culture. Most of it is meeting the very rough demands of the audience who consume manga. And if you say, "Just don't give in to their demands," then they'll just read a different story and your story gets cancelled in 3 weeks.
That is why AOT fans should be grateful for the ending they got. It's his story and he should be able to end whatever way he sees fit. He worked hard all this years only to receive severe backlash in the end.
Yeah that happens when the reader doesnt like how you end it... like the readers get on for the ride, the journey the characters go through but they got no control over it. So they should be happy there's a conclusion when there are mangas out there that have yet to reach a conclusion and you've been waiting for a portion of your life for the ending or even a continuation.
Im a young artist, gonna be 19 soon. I once was so passionate about my comic, i drew 60 full color fully shaded pages in just over 2 weeks, while also being an art student and keeping up with my other art assignments. I got a repetitive strain injury, and if i draw for too long, it comes back. There were days when I couldn’t open my hand, even hold a pen without being met with a stinging pain that went all the way up my arm. I wear a brace and take pain killers as soon as it comes up. That was self inflicted. I did that too myself. Even then, i was already a famous over worker amongst my peers, and the way that it was applauded. My passion that has lead to a maybe permanent injury is admired. And thats sick, that kind of culture amongst artists should be discouraged, artists are people, not a content pipeline

Manga is more than just a form of entertainment. It is a true art form that captures the imagination and inspires creativity. The intricate details of the characters, the vivid landscapes, and the emotions conveyed in each panel are a testament to the skill and talent of the artists who create them. The combination of storytelling, illustration, and design in manga is truly unparalleled. The artists are able to transport readers to new worlds and bring characters to life in a way that is both powerful and captivating. Manga has the ability to evoke strong emotions and leave a lasting impact on its readers. It has the power to inspire and influence generations of artists and storytellers. In short, manga is not just a book, it is a masterpiece of art that deserves to be appreciated and celebrated. It is a testament to the power of creativity and imagination, and an inspiration to all who seek to express themselves through art.
fr. people would bash the hxh art style yet at the end of the day there still reading it so they should be proud that there getting something instead of being disappointed at a art style that isn’t to their liking.
When I was in high school my classmates and I used to pass around manga to read throughout the day. They would always give it to me last because they knew I took a long time appreciating the artwork and scenes. The way people just rapidly absorb manga without really LOOKING at the story slash bothers me because the artists work SO hard to bring their visions to life.
YES THIS. i always analyze and make sure i know whats happening, i can see everything thats happening, and i can catch anything. people who skim through a manga like theyre in a hurry bewilders me
True. When it comes to reading manga, it took me far longer to finish it than reading a book. I always flip back and forth or absorb in the details of a page slowly because there's just so many things to appreciate in one page! The layout of the panels, the arrangement of a story goes within a page, the art, the details, the sfx, the emotion drawn within a page... I can rant a lot about it x'D There's so many infos within a single page and people usually tend to overlook it. Mangakas truly deserve appreciation even if their artstyle isn't popular or seemingly beautiful, there's a lot of philosophy behind creating a manga tbh
When rading something long I usually resort to page turning. At some point I'm just jumping from text bubble to text bubble. Specially during fights. Unless it is a very sick splash page.
Wow, most of the comments are into shaming readers instead of of shaming the institution for imposing sadism on the artists. I see no reason why, especially with digital distribution, why publication couldn't be bi-weekly or even monthly. The Japanese comics industry needs to grow a soul and both pay the artists for what they're really worth as well as give them ample time off.
Companies create what people purchase. The people buying it every week are just as guilty as the companies issuing it every week. The sad fact of supply and demand. If Shonen Jump dropped to biweekly another company would just fill in the void, servicing people's itch to read.
I just not that easy. Like in any other work, once someone made possible the impossible, everyone else NEEDS to reach to that level. I believe that if a mangaka appear doing a chapter in half the time and pushing magazines to publish it faster, magazines would start being published two times a week and it would be a must to everyone who wants to publish their comics.
"Selfish few" is right. The japanese comic industry needs to grow a soul. Readers will always buy their favorite comic even if it comes biweekly... hell even just monthly. The readers will see the comic worth buying even if fhe chapters come out fewer times. For example, book series are this way. Readers of popular novel series sometimes wait a whole year for the next book to get published.
Add to my previous comment..... publishing manga more doesnt make the manga great. If the mangaka publish more and the content is not good then there is no point in buying it. Its better to take time to make it good (but not too much time) then it is worth buying. As manga reader, i would rather spend money on comics with good stories that publish biweekly or more. Than a comic with bad stories that publish 2x a week

I'm not a manga artist but there was this one time in my English class, we had a project on creative writing that requires making a short comic. So being me, I was excited to try drawing a manga. The deadline was in three weeks time. The first week I spent the first three days procrastinating then the next four creating a plot and choosing between two of which the best I've thought of. The second week was spent making sketches for each scene (no matter how much you love drawing, this is straining piece of work) and the first three days of week 2, I only made 2 pages (and I had to *resketch because it got blown by the wind and was stepped on and torn by my dogs* because I work outside), the next two days I made five and I wasn't even halfway through. So on the first week I had a weekend break but since the third week is nearing and so is the deadline, I fucked it and sketched all way from morning til 4:00 am and would wake up at 6am to continue on week 2. I still had to finish sketching few more pages so I decided to tell myself I need to finish the sketches on day one of week three. So I did. And when I thought it was over. . . it wasn't. I had to ink all 14 pages with *every single detail* and it took me six days, (the last few chapters became sloppy) and I wasn't even done with making a cover art for it, I was planning on using water colour but since I haven't yet started on my other modules, I decided to make the cover tomorrow (i.e day 7 of week 3). . . Day 7 of week 3 came, it was 5:00 am, the sun was already rising but I wasn't halfway through 13 subjects. So I worked and worked on them. Nightfall came and since I haven't slept a night and had no proper sleep days prior, I decided to sleep since I was really drained and set my alarm to 3:00 am so I can begin with the cover art. I did not wake up. . . 8:00 am, Monday, the supposed deadline of the project. I was being shaken up by my mother awake asking where my modules were so she could go and submit them. I swear every single blood cells in my body stopped circulating and froze cold. The project wasn't even bound together yet. . . I bolted u from the bed and rushed towards my workspace in my room and frantically reordered them into chronological order and stapled them, I thought fuck cover art, I'mma just put a paper and write "Creative writing project Gr.8 : Comic Strip" and that's what I did. My mother took then and went to the school. The next week later, results of the three week modules were returned and it included my project. I earned half the full marks, that would've been alright since I did become sloppy due to rushing it and didn't make a cover but the thing is, my teacher added a note that said, *"I said comic strip not a book. Great plotline btw."* I'm not really mad but. . . yeah. Appreciate the effort people. It's offending.
@@motociin It's on paper and I don't really post anything on the internet (^_^;) I can tell what it's about though? The theme given was : ‘Compassion towards one who is on the verge of life and death’ Astra was a fae princess who ran away from home (and the decision of having her marry a fae prince from another kingdom for support) to become a spy against the enemy (w/c are witches) so she could return home and lead the army herself. She disguised herself as a witch and was accepted in a coven. Then she meets the coven heir, Fennel. Fennel is apathetic and like every witch hated the existance of fae creatures. Not knowing that Astra was a fae, she becomes a close friend. One day, one of Fennel's close warriors become suspicious of Astra and finds out that Astra is indeed a fae, Astra ends up killing the witch in self defense, where the rest of the coven could scent Astra as a ‘witch-killer’ and find out her true identity. So now, out of cruelty, the coven leader (Fennel's brother) decided to have Fennel accept the right of passage for the high ranking witches by which it was killing a coven killer as revenge for the dead fellow coven. On the day of her execution though, Fennel couldn't do it. She can't kill Astra (*compassion towards someone in a life and death situation*). So she ended up giving Astra her witch's-cloak to hide her scent when she escapes (mind you Astra was whipped and was presented to the coven naked for execution, which was also the reason Fennel gave her the cloak). Fennel ends up becoming a coven-traitor at that moment as she let Venatrix (her dragon) take Astra and escape. Fennel distracted her brother by confronting him into a fight. . . Fennel dies in her place. -end The rest is to be continued (never😅) (the next part is actually the second plotline I was considering illustrating) Okay bye.

Despite the dark side of the industry, there’s still more passionate authors debuting almost every year, even though they know the stress it causes they’re still willing to keep writing just off of passion alone, and I respect that. And regarding the statement of manga authors not having control over when the series ends, that was mainly an issue for extremely popular series in Weekly Shonen magazines, like Fairy Tail, Naruto. Recently they’ve been more willing to end series on the authors accord, good example is Kimetsu no Yaiba, it ended with only 4 year run but is now one of Jump’s most popular series in years, and My Hero Academia, a series that you would usually expect to go on forever like Naruto, is in it’s final arc, even Jujutsu Kaisen and Tokyo Revengers, series that’re blowing up at the moment, are ending pretty soon (Jujutsu Kaisen was stated to end in another year or 2, and Tokyo Revengers is currently in it’s final arc as well.) And when it comes to to scheduling, you have an alternative to Weekly Jump, Jump Plus, which manga artist has a more flexible work schedule, being able to work at their own pace. So when it comes to the current state of the manga industry, I feel that it’s slowly becoming less as stressful as it was back then. But anyways good video! Sorry for the wall of text lol.
I think most of these mangaka learn their lesson from their predecessor. If your series are popular, end it as quickly as you can or it would drag on forever. Especially if that series got commercial and sponsors company supporting them. One of the most curious case of this is Aoyama Gosho's Detective Conan. That anime are dubbed "National Anime" and got all sorts of sponsors like TMS Entertainment who aired the animated series, the Japanese government whom support it since a large-scale manga support program from the 90s, and a lots of toys and game company who sold merchandise off it. As a result, he can't end the manga series and the anime are dragging on for 25 years now and the anime reach its 1000th episode just this January.
I respect their passion for the subject, but I don't respect their desire to overwork themselves at all. These people trying to make it big are dysfunctional and desperate, and this lifestyle shouldn't be supported. It's the remnants of post-WWII Japan's industrial boom, and there are new avenues for artists to take their work and make their lives more livable while still producing quality works.
Around the time she was creating the Swordsmith Village arc, Demon Slayer's mangaka had family issues come up, but wasn't given a break. She ended up ending the series early. Thankfully, we have the databooks, but everytime I hear someone say Demon Slayer's writing is trash / it sucks / etc, I remember the little note she put at the beginning of the very first volume, about how excited she was that her work had gotten published.
Shonen Jump is known to exploit their artists, that's why other magazines that publish monthly are a much more feasible task to accomplish and healthier for the artists. Fans need to know that creators are human beings too and deserve to have a life outside of drawing. Adding to the fact that Japan has often a sick work ethic, it's not going to change.
Spot on, I wouldn't mind if more manga magazines adopted monthly chapters, if thats actually significantly better for the artists. And monthly manga sometimes has more detailed art too, like Kuroshitsuji, for example.
It’s “sick” for your standards, but manga writes who became millionaires do it because they love what they write and create. Nobody forced or told them to do so. If they don’t want to, they wouldn’t, and that’s fine, because there are literally MILLIONS out there who are more than willing to take their place. This soft shit needs to end lol.
@@anthonyrocco5612 Millionaires? Tell it to the author of Death Note who said they'd start starving in 5 years if he didn't keep working. 30 million copies sold * ~$5 per copy is $150 MILLION, split that in half since they're a duo and they should have $75 million each, enough to retire for life. Author of Gintama claims they hardly get shit for anime and merch sales, mainly just a flat license fee. > Nobody forced or told them to do so. If they don’t want to, they wouldn’t, and that’s fine, because there are literally MILLIONS out there who are more than willing to take their place. Bro, you are pretty much forced, if you don't maintain ratings and sales, you get axed, therefore you can't take breaks EVEN if you wanted to with the exception of One Piece and HxH. You can work hard but also you must know the limit of it. Like hard work doesn't necessarily equal good work all the time
@Nibir Barman That's true, but you need to have a somewhat consistent schedule to really be successful. Unless you've already got a big fanbase, people aren't going to wait months between chapters.
I used to think aot was one of the most overhated fandoms out there. This all went below 0 after april 8th 2021. When i realised aot fandom is easily the 3rd worst fandom i have seen in my life. Just under naruto and dragon ball which i personally think will never be topped.
@@Elden_one aot fandom was very good until 3. Season 3 part-2 made the fandom really bad. Now it is toxic. Everyone is mad at levi, mikasa and they think they are better than everyone. I think AOT is even more crazy than MHA. I used to hate jojo fandom too. But recently after watching jojo i realised that, thay may make ridiculous amount of memes ( most of the meme are actually good) and spamming about jojo reference. They are not wild or toxic like AOT or other anime. I only like fandom with less members. More people means more toxic people.

fun fact: that 30 minute sleep every four hours is a real thing That only the busy can acomplish. its typically called the Davinci schedule since he supposedly used it. its facinating how little we can truly live on.
to the two replies, im not saying its better, just saying its possible to live on and that people have slipped into this sleep cycle either on purpose or by complete accident. btw thanks for reminding me the actual name of the sleep schedule instead of just calling it the Da Vinci.
@@BiloGadget We are all different, some feel ok sleeping 5 or 6 hours per night, others usually need 8 hours and will need to compensate for any lack of sleep during an especially busy period.
@@vaderetro264 i dont disagree with this, im not saying anyone should do the ubermann or any other sleep rhythm besides what your body is used to unless you have done your research and you want to go through with it. There are probably tons of people who tried and failed because of how exhausting forcing your circadian rhythm to change is.
Honestly, I do wanna be a Manga / Comic creator when I get a little older, and this video has given me the idea to make a schedule now before I decide to create my stories. Why does it seem like things that come from Japan and South Korea like Manga/Manhwa and Kpop, are cool but come with this horrible dark side?! Is there any commodity that's cool from these countries that doesn't have a tinge of a horrible cloud hovering just behind it?! Japan has a name for folks who work themselves to death, like come on!
To be fair i think that's the way for any form of entertainment, even the U.S has some horrible thing in the entertainment industry even though compared to Asian countries it give more benefits
I think that's one reason dedicated fans get so upset when someone talks shit abt a kpop star, manga series etc. Bc they know they work their asses off to express themselves and give us some entertainment and seeing some tear them down is said bc they put their all into it.
@@_jp_0966 naaah stop romanticizing overwork culture. Its clearly out of pure greed. Being a mangaka is literally my dream job, and yet I know that in the back of my head that there is hardly any leisure time. I love storytelling, drawing, and anime/manga in general. And with my depression, I know it's not possible until I get better mentally. I'm still young, and yet I feel as though I never achieve my dream. I know this job relies on popularity, but the more popular you are, the less leisure time you have.
I also want to become a managaka, I tell my self everyday I will even with these cons I'm still motivated. I'm always self conscious so I don't spread my ideas because of the fear of people telling me my ideas are worthless. As I'm writing this comment my head is swirling with ideas but I don't know what to do them with them yet. The point of this comment is to let you know your not alone with your thoughts.
The same for me, the only difference is being mangaka or making comics isn't my main job for living, rather as a side job or even just a hobby. I enjoy writing and drawing, I planned to sell it for anyone whose interested or just curious.
I also want to be a manga artist and I hope that my manga gets adapted into an anime If I choose to follow down this carrer path but I live in America and I donn’t just want to write or illustrate books I want to make manga or comics. There’s something special about manga or even just comics online that are more engaging and inspiring than regular Americanized books. A pretty popular series called spy family on jump has a bi-weekly schedule (2 weeks per chapter) so I feel if can be more common, things can get better as artists can have more time
My thoughts exactly. Why must it always be a chapter every week? I wouldn't mind waiting 2 weeks for a chapter. Nevertheless, I don't see the point in working so hard every day and completely neglecting one's health.
The energy you put into translating these matters doesn't go unnoticed either TH-cam career can also be very taxing & we appreciate the perspective you've shown us
After seeing all this, I think that the manga schedule should be changed. They all deserve 8 hours of sleep, higher payment, vacations and all of support. We must never take advantage of these Japan manga artists, creators & authors for granted, because they all deserve a break & they're all human like us. So let's all do what we can to give these people the respect they deserve. After all, when we read all about manga, we remember the people who drew them & deserve nothing less.
@@arianefelixeva why is that? It's hardly possible for a foreigner to become a full-time manga artist anyway, but you still can draw manga and publish it independently. A Japanese hikikomori guy managed to draw two doujinshi works and sell them never leaving the house. And he sold about 2 thousand copies earning $9k, which is so much more than publishing through a company with catastrophically low royalties.
You don't have to become one through a big publisher, it's significantly easier to go freelance nowadays in a lot of creative fields than ever before. There are platforms for you to post your comics/manga according to whatever schedule you like and with as much creative freedom as you want. If you can build a following on somewhere like Webtoon, TH-cam or any other social media it can end up just as viable as publishing manga in Shonen Jump.
These kinds of things are why I really do think that more manga magazines should have bi-weekly or even monthly schedules. As an amateur comic artist myself, I can say that even just my comics which are far shorter and less well made than those of published mangaka take a lot of time and effort to make. I can't imagine having to stick to such a schedule.
This actually just makes me respect them even more...there is a work ethic in their culture that is astonishingly Savage. In California, In 2010 There was a 19 year old girl from japan in our 3d fundamental class, the widows are tinted as a way to help us loose track of time. While me and the Americans would knock off the labs early she'd always remain behind on her screen just toiling away, Even when assignments were complete 🤷🏽♀️ sometimes she'd come with a sleeping bag and sleep in the labs. Till One day, she just didn't come, which was such a foreign notion to us that we stopped working and asked questions, we later found out that she went temporarily BLIND!!, 😳 We didn't even know it was possible to SPRAIN YOUR EYES. I don't understand what pushed her but all I know is , where ever she is today, she has my respect because all who majored STILL talk about it in their marriages and in work places... She left an impact with just her work ethic alone. And yes of course she was the best of us but even after scooping that title she had no reason to work how she did.
The problem is they didn't make good anime. They love to make angry kid to become hero instead using intelligence or cleverness. So it will late to deliver to audiences if they focus on artwork and logic instead they might create artwork faster. Example they think about some st upid like the enemy attack hero and hero lose figures and yet hero still ask who are you? How do you do? What is your name? It take plenty of time to think about this scenes instead real life logic so it will late to deliver to audiences. Japan love phycopas theory instead logic. Hero got beaten and nearly die, mostly die but instead of being die the hero awaken power and continue his quest so it take a lot of time to think how to pull that scenes off in order to make audiences believe it will happen. Manga and anime delivery late is not about hard work bull s hit like this channel said. It all about their psychopath theory put into anime.
@@LadyAstarionAncunin I didn't mean to encourage the practice, forgive me for that. It was insensitive. I just find her dedication to be inspiring, although I did say she should have taken a break. I've heard of Japan's work culture and it scares me. Here in America Japanese Americans in general are still insanely hard working but they have a healthier outlook and take breaks. I'm a computer engineering student and I'm always glad to have one on my team in any kind of project. I honestly think we here could learn a lot from the way they raise their children. I know that the whole "Tiger Mom" thing is a stereotype and can be offensive, but I have generally seen that children from Asian households turn out to be brighter, more hard working and generally great citizens.
I hate it when a manga artist's hard work is often not recognised because you have idiotic fans being toxic, overly-demanding, or just trashing it. No matter how much you think something is 'mID' or 'tRaSH' or whatever, there's always people who put effort into drawing it or animating it into an anime (although that's not the main focus of the video)

Watching a manga serie, or movie, you can tell by every second it plays, every detail however little, has been created with such a mastery of attention, one cannot describe it.. That is why anime is so incredible, beautiful, full of emotion and deep meaning. I am very, very grateful that there are such artists, whom are creating this for us al to enjoy, laugh and cry with. I only pray for those men and woman that they respect their own life as they respect their Art, too. But if you really love something, it becomes very easy to give it all of your attention, so I understand what they go trough, and why they 'suffer themselves'. They love it, yet a little bit more money for those artists would serve them right! They deserve
I worked on a Webtoon for a competition once. Since my partner and I entered a little late, we were pressed for time. I was invested in the story my writer had, but I also had very high expectations for my art that we simply didn't have time for. In the end, I was drawing the second I woke up to the second I slept, 15 hours a day. We barely made the first episode, as we pulled all nighters as the week came to an end. Anyone who knows the format knows that Webtoons are usually colored. Although I was confident in the artwork for the first half of chapter one, I had to cut it down drastically, to the point where I hated looking at it. It's an eyesore. I'm only glad that my readers didn't tear me apart for it anymore than I did. I'm trying not to type so much, but we got episode 1 out, and immediately began scripting episode 2. Now I knew what episode 1 was like, so I adjusted my art for the second episode. It wasn't nearly as nice as the first half of 1, but it wasn't miserable like the second half. The workload was still the same, however. We never finished it. By the end of it, my back was in excruciating pain for a good while, which I feel I haven't fully recovered from since i get a small pain if I draw for too long. My wrist also stiffens and burns if i draw for too long as well. Despite all this, I am in love with drawing and writing. So I still plan to create. I plan on starting another webtoon soon, but this time at my own pace (I'm thinking monthly as opposed to weekly) and I will also be writing my own story. What i primarily want people to take away from this is that it is definitely dangerous to work under such a short window of time. Since I have then improved a lot artistically, mentally, and physically, I feel like I can take it easier the second time around. If you love it more than anything, give it a shot!
@@aliefadaam Sure! I warn you that the art is really outdated tho. ^^' The name is "All She Wrote" It is unfinished, and I'm afraid it will remain that way.
Sadly this doesn't not apply only to mangakas but also for webcomic artists, trust me is not easy to spend hours and hours coloring backgrounds or modeling 3D to bring a speed race for the readers, and sometimes they're very rude cof cof Webtoons

i’m a webtoon canvas creator and i happen to pass by this comment. At first, it wasn’t really my intention to pursue webtoon until i learned about the monetization program brought by webtoon itself so i decided to go for it and i want to share my thoughts about this experience since if you want to try to pursue a career to become a webtooner there are hidden facts behind the curtain. as glorious as it sounds, life in webtoon is very similar to what i just saw in the video except you don’t have a publisher because the deadline is what’s making you push your health to the limit. if u don’t plan to monetize your project you can really take it easy (no deadlines whatsoever) but if you’re looking for rewards such as you get paid for drawing, you will need to reach a certain amount of follows and views and to get there you will try harder and harder, that’s how it becomes stressful and unbearable to live with. There are so many things more to share but this post is getting long. You can ask me if you want to learn more stuff about what’s going on in the webtoon world.
I hope that Isayama is rich for life. Every single character in his saga is like a universe. Not a single one is shallow. We somehow know that, even with the ones that appear in the story fleetingly, if we were allowed into their story, a LOT would be revealed. And yet he had to deal with people whining and even disrespecting him because he saw his vision to the end instead or writing their fanfic end.
Yea bro aot is not a Disney movie to have a duet and 'they lived happily ever after' Ending, instead it just slaps you in the face and wakes you up to reality. I loved the ending tho. My friend is a mangaka and the author himself, he knows that manga creation is very tiring when not handled correctly, he has said a tip for all people who want to create manga in these points: 1. Always give yourself at least 3 hours of free time, and a time for breakfast, dinner and lunch 2. In the schedule, always put the easiest thing first, then the hardest at last for example: Odd week, Manuscript in first days, storyboard in last days Even week, Manuscript in first days, drawing in last days 3. Give yourself at least 6-8 hours of sleep
Five hours of work, and it still giving life for those who done write, not just will die, the video says that it's a way of life, we sufer with this kind of life
I always wondered how manga artists managed to pump out issues every week. Usually comic book creators have a month to make up an issue and the work is split between writers, pencilers, inkers, and colorists. This sounds like hell. Much respect to all the mangakas out there.
Tite Kubo is a huge victim of this he was tormented by shueisha and shone jump so badly to finish and rush the ending of bleach as he did this his health severely deteriorated and he was admitted in hospital many times but still continued the manga due to a letter from a terminal illness patient he was touched by and when he finally finished tybw in 2016 all people could say was trash ending and hated on the manga itself sending hate messages to kubo all I can say is that this somehow has to be resolved in the near future

I’m an artist writing his own series and I can tell you every artist knows the risk and struggles that come with our talents but there’s something about writing a story and putting our hearts on a page for all to see and enjoy, it just does something for us and while there is potentially little in it for us, it’s still something we would fight for
People label Togashi as lazy, I did too. Seeing how cluttered and dirty his room is in that one famous picture painted him in a bad light. When they state health issues the hiatus makes it a bit iffy cause he's been on break for years. But when you think about it mental stress and other psych issues are also very real. Its sad tho that Muira died before he could finish berserk. I don't think I'll ever read his final chapter.
This is the reason why when I read mangas, I like to take my time and apriciate the hard work they put into making it, (my parents once cought me admiring a page for almost 30 minutes).
Despite being a mangaka is stressful and fast. Many do it because they love it. And you can tell when a mangaka loves there job. Manga like jojo and berserk have lots of love put into them. So over money and time, they make a legacy. Which is why when a mangaka dies, like Kentaro for berserk. A blast wave of sadness goes through out the world, even to people who never read it.
For those who want to become a mangaka I advise you to use digital tools (ex. tablets) to draw so you can finished your work faster & publish your work on a monthly magazine so you'll have more time, for foreigners that want to become a mangaka if you don't have time to learn japanese then hire a translator.
Digital is harder for me and takes for ever. Doing stuff on paper is way quicker for me. The same drawing that would take me 30 seconds on paper would take me 6 hours on a computer. You have to constantly zoom in and out.
I personally think that learning Japanese is much more worth than hiring a translator, since usually some mangas includes wordplays and cultural refrences that can only be understood by experience and learning
@@ukiitukii7425 its not that its not easy to convert them it that you should draw like you do on paper. if something that normally would take you 10 mins on paper takes you 1 hour on digital it only means that you get distracted by the shit ton of options there are and you need to limit them
One of my life goals is to release an own story, especially an own manga. Well, you've explained the negative aspects very good. The life is hard. If you want to become successful, you have to suffer, learning from your mistakes, working hard, being dedicated and believing in the own dreams and goals. And the most important thing is that you shouldn't give up. Keep going until you've reached what you desire.
As an artist myself, who draws his own anime despite not being Japanese, I always appreciate the hard works that they always do for us though if they can't do any more stories, that's fine, there will always be new stories inspired by these ideas and that's more than enough.
For having only about 6000 subs the quality of yo vids is crazy good and seems professional. Shout out to all the never ending mangas, we gonna miss berserk :/
art is passion when you love doing something, your body goes into a trance, I want to salute all the manga artist, if illustrating, drawing or animating is a death sentence then dying for something you are passionate about is the noblest way to go.
It's nice knowing you are leaving something behind with the work you do. I think that is why office work is so soul-crushing. 90% of it is meaningless, valueless bullshit.

I tried live drawing portraits at an anime convention a couple times and the last time I did, I drew around 100 portraits in 2 days. From that single event, I wrecked my wrist so badly I had to start wearing a carpal brace, eventually it got so bad years later that I couldn't even feed myself properly because I couldn't hold anything. Eventually I needed surgery to the point that it wasn't even my choice anymore. My father was a graphic artist and painter, his hands were wrecked too. My mother was a drafting road designer, her hands are also a mess and has been in physio for her hands for years, and because she drew and plotted for so many years by hand and digitally, her back is wrecked despite the government providing ergonomic aid for her to keep working. My parents had breaks and health days and they still ended up physically wrecked. here to back this up, i am making my own manga aswell, i have somewhat the full story in mind already i have written 3 chapters but have yet to start drawing, i have done sketches of 10 panels for first chapter, and i have drawn 5 character arts with the help of 3d modelling and posing, it has been more than a few months since i started drawing and i’m yet to even start working on drawing the chapters, i feel it hard to motivate myself to pick up the pen and paper, it’s just sitting on my table as my sister asks why don’t i clean it up cause i don’t use it as often, i do use it, it’s just extremely hard to draw anything other than sketches, all in all let’s keep working and hope that the manga makers experience better times

I am happy that some Mangakas don't use Social media much, it's disheartening to see people harassing you when you were simply putting your hard work out there for people to enjoy.
i totally agree with you
@@chilltfdown5832 There is no denying that people who cannot afford Manga will read it illegally and I know some Mangas like Kingdom do not have official Translation also so people go for scanlations.
My issue is with those self-proclaimed Twitter Critics who harass Mangaka and nitpick every single thing.
@@tachi8978 I hate them bastards. They act like they're some sort of critique or something. "I CaN gIvE My OpInIon, My RiGhT" . They are nothing more than biased morons who put other mangakas' work down to make their favourite manga seem better.
Sometimes whenever I see those negative commenta on Twitter, it really makes me want to say to them that they don’t really care about the authors of their favorite manga. I mean like come on dude! Take a look at Masashi Kishimoto! He worked so hard to finish Naruto for everyone! Even Koyoharu Gotouge worked very hard to make that happy ending in Demon Slayer! It really makes me feel upset to see people making those negative comments to these hard working MANGAKAS! 🤬🤬🤬😔😔😔

that's why it would be good to buy physical or digital manga, instead of reading it from illegal sites.I know that a lot of readers can't afford it, but if you do, please support the manga artists
On that topic, manga is generally much cheaper buying inside Japan compared to international physical releases. $20 a volume for me can be under $5 a volume for someone inside Japan
Most of that probably goes to import tariffs

This is why making a chapter per month should be a standard, I prefer such mangas like AoT or Hanako-kun where I know I always get a high quality of both art and storytelling each month without feeling sorry for the creators possibly overworking themselves to death.

@Zai Sumairu awe omg ! at least make her nice stuff or give her massages. she needs a break, probably.
They need a reform in the industry.
Which mean even more stress, more lack of sleep and more malnutrition.
then some fans would be bashing why the ending sometimes doesn't meet their expectations
I never read AOT. But, I know for a fact; someone like Kishimoto deserves all of the backlash he gets.

I'm an artist and I appreciate intricate details too but sometimes I'm one of those who just reads too fast, I'm sorry :(
Same! I hate people who fast read manga's, at least appreciate the art.
Youwon't get paid enough to survive, if you release bi-weekly. I guess tht's the main reason

Bruh tell me about it-
I didn’t think my future dream job could kill me-
I'm not a manga artist but there was this one time in my English class, we had a project on creative writing that requires making a short comic.
I earned half the full marks, that would've been alright since I did become sloppy due to rushing it and didn't make a cover but the thing is, my teacher added a note that said,
*"I said comic strip not a book. Great plotline btw."*
I'm not really mad but. . . yeah.
Appreciate the effort people. It's offending.

@@motociin It's on paper and I don't really post anything on the internet (^_^;) I can tell what it's about though?
The theme given was : ‘Compassion towards one who is on the verge of life and death’
Astra was a fae princess who ran away from home (and the decision of having her marry a fae prince from another kingdom for support) to become a spy against the enemy (w/c are witches) so she could return home and lead the army herself.

The rest is to be continued (never😅) (the next part is actually the second plotline I was considering illustrating)

Ik same I’ve spent a year working on a story and perfecting the characters and my art. I’m only a kid too, so even if I’ve finished everything, that doesn’t mean I can exactly go move to Japan and get it published so…
@trunks art06 Same man eversince I was young I've always loved naruto and wanted to meet the creator and in fact inspired me to create a manga now watching this doesn't really bother me just do what you love
@Ghani Ziyad Sagiansyah Very nuanced take! Perhaps you want to explain more?
That's good to know!!! Coz dragging the story when for the creator it's already done feels like it's turned to hell.
As expected from Zero, wise words, man!
That's emotional ngl.

And monthly manga sometimes has more detailed art too, like Kuroshitsuji, for example.
why human love to torture themselves
It’s “sick” for your standards, but manga writes who became millionaires do it because they love what they write and create.

In my opinion mangaka is outdated these days. At least the classical one. You can easily post your manga/comic on websites like webtoon or tapas.
These kinds of things are why I really do think that more manga magazines should have bi-weekly or even monthly schedules.

@@Lulu_0809 even if the panels are made in advance, that means that during their break they didn't even get to relax because they were still working on making episodes to make sure there were enough for fast pass readers and since they're not machines the readers will catch up with the episodes and they will eventually always end up making the latest fast pass episode every week

i’m a webtoon canvas creator and i happen to pass by this comment.
I was actually thinking of that as well and becauses of this it made me appreciate this things more
I hope that Isayama is rich for life.
Yea bro aot is not a Disney movie to have a duet and 'they lived happily ever after'
Ending, instead it just slaps you in the face and wakes you up to reality.
I loved the ending tho.
I mean the same guy worked for more than 10 years and we loved his story. And all of a sudden, some people are sending death threats.
Sorry if I bored you 😂
@@anime4lyf554 I could have never imagined such shallow people exist.
They are just as bad as Gross (The Character)
@@AK-vj9uu 😂 nice one
@@anime4lyf554 no one wants it to be happily ever after. Problem people have is throwing Eren's character development off the building and turning him to a simp. My friend is a mangaka and the author himself, he knows that manga creation is very tiring when not handled correctly, he has said a tip for all people who want to create manga in these points:
1. Always give yourself at least 3 hours of free time, and a time for breakfast, dinner and lunch
2. In the schedule, always put the easiest thing first, then the hardest at last for example:
Odd week, Manuscript in first days, storyboard in last days
Even week, Manuscript in first days,
drawing in last days
3. Give yourself at least 6-8 hours of sleep
those people are dying to give life to fictional characters😔.
Five hours of work, and it still giving life for those who done write, not just will die, the video says that it's a way of life, we sufer with this kind of life
Collectivism is based of work as well
I always wondered how manga artists managed to pump out issues every week.
4:37 Yikes, Lumbar Compression Fractures are common in women with Osteoporosis. Those CLAMP members were too young to be getting those fractures unless malnutrition was involved.
I respect the illustrators and authors who make manga. Details to draw the manga and ideas for them are already both very tiring to do.
This is exactly why i didn't complain about the Ending of AOT. Imagine working for eleven consecutive years with dedication, difficulty and passion just to have a bunch of ungrateful and inconsiderate people bashing your work.
*Edit: there are people in the replies convincing me that the ending of aot was bad. yes, I agree with that.there were plenty of inconsistencies and plotholes... though that does not exclude the well written characters, quality storyline and plot we had prior to everything. it's not like we can change a bad ending by complaining*
Edit: it's over. I feel so empty 😭🖤
Well that doesn't describe the shit ending ...it's not like he couldn't have satisfied us
Exaclty. So ugly. And yet, these same people love to write 'my soldiers, rage', 'sasageyo' in their social media.
@@asmitaacharya5731 As I writer, if I write for others, that is NOT my vision. That is a profound disrespect for my craft. S/he who wants their own fitting fantasy ending should write their own fan fiction.
@@NTav540 ok ok chill atleast learn proper english grammar
@@login98 Why should I? I could point to a couple of improper uses on your comment, but I would be doing something I don't believe in, especially in the context of youtube. As for AOT, anyone has the right to criticize or not to like something. However, to threaten somebody and disrespect them, no.
This video isn’t going to stop my dreams of becoming a manga artist and writer working for shonen jump I’m just to damn stubborn. I’d rather work myself into an early grave then give up on my dreams.
Wishing you all the luck man! Believing is the first step of achieving your goals!
What will be the name of your manga .... I'll keep checking it in the future.
haha I feel the same. Can't wait to publish my work too since I have also been overworking myself just in order to make longer chapters.
I wish you the best luck!
@@newleaf626 so how can you get into manga publishing magazines as a foreign artist??? And do I have to go to Japan spending my own money or they will take care of flight or anything??? Just asking
Hope you make it!
Thats good :D
Same . I do the same . We really should always do that
Despite being a mangaka is stressful and fast.
@@icecreamhero2375 it's because Digital and Traditional are different you can't easily convert your skills from Trad to Digital
I personally think that learning Japanese is much more worth than hiring a translator, since usually some mangas includes wordplays and cultural refrences that can only be understood by experience and learning
@@rayreds3394 then you directly have to live in japan. learning is not enough at that point
If you ever start your story/manga, I will be one of the first people to read it! Don’t give up❤❤
good video and how sad that it is a reality
It's not sad. They chose this life, they love their craft and are dedicated to it. Why is that sad?
As an artist myself, who draws his own anime despite not being Japanese, I always appreciate the hard works that they always do for us though if they can't do any more stories, that's fine, there will always be new stories inspired by these ideas and that's more than enough.
I feel so sad for the authors who work so hard and many people say bad things about the manga. Man I feel so sad.
True, but if the manga is bad I mean it's bound to be talked about.

art is passion when you love doing something, your body goes into a trance, I want to salute all the manga artist, if illustrating, drawing or animating is a death sentence then dying for something you are passionate about is the noblest way to go.
It's nice knowing you are leaving something behind with the work you do. I think that is why office work is so soul-crushing. 90% of it is meaningless, valueless bullshit.

I can barely imagine what they go through. I watched my younger brother and another friend of mine have literally no time for anything when they were completing Illustration in College. For mangaka to have a schedule that dire it blows my mind at how much worse it probably is in comparison. @_@ 😭 They are all absolute heroes!
