  • Traveling over Sonora Pass to the rough 4WD road that leads to the amazingly beautiful Leavitt Lake at 9500' in the High Sierra of California near Sonora Pass where we boondock camp in a Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro. Come along for the wild 4WD ride wheeling to the lake and an arduous hike up to the PCT Trail from the lake!

Awesome video. We plan to head out there next month barring any closures/bad weather.

If you had to winch on road to levits lake you definitely do not have a clue, I have done that trail dozens of time with two wheel drive with no problems.

Thanks for the comment. I have no idea of the experience level of the guy who had to winch. But any experienced off-roader knows that wet or muddy conditions changes everything.

Saw a video of a 5th Gen RAV4 also making it up there

There was one guy in a RAV4 that was lifted and modded and he still had to use his winch on one of the steep sections!

Thanks for the video. Looking for a place to ride our ADV bikes to for camping, this is totally doable.

Yes, and there are more roads to explore above the lake!

Awesome video of the surrounding lakes. I’ve been to Leavitt once and heard of the others but never ventured out to find them. How long a hike to those others?

It's not far at all, the whole hike was a few miles but there is a LOT of uphill, especially to the upper lake. The first lake isn't hard and you can actually drive to it.

Weekday in October. After the first snow, you can no longer access.

We have a group of eight jeepers and we frequent the rubicon trail both winter and summer.there is absolutely no comparison at all.these videos do nothing but reveal good places to go, that's why they are so crouded.
