Genoa NV is a beautiful remote town in Nevada near Lake Tahoe in Douglas County. It was an important stop for emmigrants beginning during the Gold Rush of 1849. John Reese opened Mormon Station in 1851 and the town name was changed to Genoa in 1855. Morman Station is now a restored park and is fun to visit. In the museum there we learn about Snowshoe Thompson and Hank Monk. We have a great tour...

WWII Plane Crash - Engine in Cataract Creek Mt. Tamalpais
มุมมอง 1.5Kหลายเดือนก่อน
On October 4, 1945 four WWII Corsair Fighter Planes took off from Alameda Navy Base to practice defensive maneuvers. 2 of the airplanes crashed into each other at over 10,000' and fell to the ground. The pilots both ejected and parachuted to safety - but not without injuries. The two Corsair Fighter airplanes fell out of the sky onto Mt. Tamalpais. One of the engines from the planes dislodged o...

Thanks for the awesome content. Is it possible to do on gravel bike?
Definitely doable on a gravel bike. Some of it’s a little rough and you can experience some sandy areas. But there is nothing technical.
@fiestaadventures I appreciate it that! I'll definitely be taking the gravel bike for some riding.
Cool😎 2025? Happy New Year! We've got no snow (for XC) in Minnesota. :(
Thanks for the comment! We have had some good snow but this was filmed a while back! I hope you'll have plenty of snow in Minnesota soon enough.
I'm glad that they are requiring permits to help keep it clean
more on borax smith!
I like the color. Just picked up a '62 Turkis green Bus from a friend for a hundred bucks. They are kinda cool, huh.
What a beautiful day thank you for sharing
The park service calls it on their maps. Also on Gaia it is called both. Also now you have to have a permit ($10.00) to camp. You can only camp along side of the main road not on the other roads. As you turned off Jubilee Pass Road, about a mile there is an area of several campsites.
Oh yeah, what electrocycle said goes for me too, tx much. Cheers, Carpe Deim
Man, oh, man, you have Steve Smith, alà the Red Green Show, sound alike about nailed, just a tad more hoarcer, ta da, just need da nephew sidekick
😂 Not necessarily a flattering comparison, but I see where you’re coming from. I was recovering from a medical incident where I had completely lost my voice and it was just starting to come back. I was sounding pretty terrible. Fortunately things have improved since then. Thank you for the comment.
Where did you get your socks?
They gave us socks and sleeping a when we arrived for the tour.
Drive that road every day, even in the winter, beyond sketchy..
THANK YOU FOR THIS EDUCATION. VIEWERS' COMMENTS ADDED MUCH INFORMATION.
Awesome ride 😊
Did that climb sometime in the 70's with my dad and younger sister. The ski resort was still there but not sure how much was left then. My sister skidded out her rear tire on the way down, had to wait with her while my dad went and got the car.
Thanks for the comment. The ski area operated (usually at a loss and with many lawsuits) from about 1959-1978. There was an avalanche in 1978 that put the last nail in the coffin. Sometime after 1978 all the towers were torn down but I'm not sure about the timeline. Everything is gone now but it wouldn't surprise me if there are still some remnants if one were to hike up the hill! The descent is epic and I trust your sister survived and recovered 100%.
Hello, is it possible to make some Photos during a Tour or is it forbidden?
Photos are allowed.
Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 ❤️
I was there this month for my nephews bday ! Yes broken down homes but not a piece of trash on the roads etc
Thanks for the comment and observation!
My nephews out there n it’s so much to explore there ❤
Merry White Christmas!! Thanks for sharing....
You becoming an "influencer!"
It would be bad if I influenced anyone, but I doubt there is cause for concern!
Thank you for sharing your tips.
Sure thing, and thanks for the comment!
The trail and the surroundings are simply perfect for hiking! Fantastic video man!👏
Thanks for the comment!
Thank you, good job. I think you made the right decision not going farther. Now you have a reason to go back.
True that. Thanks for the comment!
Thank you for a great video. I really missed a great adventure.
My mother moved to Trona from New Jersey back in the 70s and lived there the rest of her life. She liked it for some reason.
Nice video
Thanks for watching!
bout to monopolized by Stewart, get ready
I drove through there on my way to death valley. It looked like a ghost town to me.2021
Right on Sir ....I agree with you ...too many uneducated clowns on the internet ...RIP to the slain Officer 😢
Thank you for the comment!
Who doesn't love Candi or Y. Love the bar was there way back in the day thank you!
Not light beer Corona premier is a light beer
Very well said.👍🇺🇸
Thanks 👍
Thank you sir for your video. Very informative and beautiful footage. I discovered Wingo in a promotion by Sonoma County and tried to get there today. Road was closed, but as you know, it is super muddy after all the torrential rains so declined hiking it out there. Good thing!. I am so grateful I was able to see it via the sky. Thanks to you again! :)
Thanks for sharing!
I stayed out there many years ago. I didn't hear any city sounds, but the passing freight trains woke me up several times thru' the night
Cool! The tracks are indeed very close to the train. I would imagine that back in the day perhaps the train did not run at night.
I've actually been to and seen this crash site. The airframe and engine are separated by a small ridge. The airframe is still (or was 20 years ago), relatively intact. Note: about 10 miles away, there is a big radial engine beside a hiking/bike trail as well, reportedly from a unknown 4 engine bomber, and other crashes in the area
Thanks for the comment. My understanding is that the Corsair airframe is now gone but there are still pieces of the wreckage which I have not yet found. The other site you are referring to I believe is the B-17 Bomber site located on White's Hill. And I do plan to make a visit and share my experience.
@@fiestaadventures Actually, I don't believe the engine is off the B17 that crashed on White's Hill. It's in Fairfax at the intersection of a couple of hike/bike trails. I remember one trail was named the "B17 Trail" (but most hikers don't know airplanes and frequently just call stuff incorrectly), but I'm pretty sure it's not an engine from the infamous B17 that was reportedly carrying a detonator for one of the atomic bombs to be tested in Bikini Atoll, as they're several miles apart. Another interesting thing is that my brother and I found a Norden Bombsite on the hill above where we grew up in Woodacre, CA, again, a couple of miles away and over a hill from the B17 crash site. We showed it to my dad, who served in the Army in WW2, and he immediately took it to then-active Hamilton AFB. I still wish he knew that it was no longer classified, as the war was long over! We were about 9-10 years old, but would have been cool to have kept it!!! One more fact from the area was: My dad told the story about he and some friends playing cards in Kentfield one dark & stormy night, when they heard military fighter sounding planes fly over and then hit something! Turned out it was a flight of P40's and they hit on Mt Tamalpias somewhere in the dark.
@@fiestaadventures The lone radial engine located on the "B17" trail is not off the B17 that crashed on White's Hill as far as I can tell. There are a couple of miles separating them. The White's Hill B17 was supposedly carrying a detonator for the upcoming Bikini Atomic Bomb tests, and was almost immediately removed and buried (like that very night). There are a couple of videos about it, although I'm not sure of the titles. I grew up in Woodacre (other side of White's Hill) and spent lots of my youth there, along with mountain biking all over the area later, so was around there a lot.
@@JillandKevin Thanks for the comment. The B-17 Trail is on White's Hill and is named as such as a reference to the B-17. The engine in the creek is on the Cataract Trail as mentioned above. The third site is off of the Vic Haun Trail on the South side of the mountain and I did a video on that one as well called, Mt. Tam Plane Crash Site 1944 WWII & Mystery Coverup: th-cam.com/video/KBtJ5kZH5LY/w-d-xo.html. That plane was a Martin PBM-5 Mariner. I plan to visit the B-17 site on White's Hill next. Cheers!
I was lucky enough to meet your TH-cam friend, Wonderhussy, recently as she happened to be visiting a work of art I had done just west of Inyokern. She is an interesting and creative individual and pleasantly quirky. She did a video of our serendipitous chat (Horseshoe Joshua). I'll look-up her visit to Trona. I'm sure she was as sensitive to the Trona culture as you were here.
Thank you for the comment. I did see the @Wonderhussy video on the Horseshoe Joshua and it was excellent. Wonderhussyy also did a video on Trona and it's also good but she will claim it was done years ago before she achieved her current proficiency. That proficiently is aptly demonstrated in her recent interview of Ed Ringle from Beatty. Those two had a great rapport and it was a joy to watch. Cheers!
A worthy visit good sir. Thank you, and for reminding me to pay another visit to this one. Say, ever visit the crash-site of the B-17 on Loma-Alta,(Whites Hill)?😊 13:58
Thanks for the comment. I did a video on the PBM crash and intend to visit the B-17 site soon!
I am from India TH-camr sir
Welcome from India!
The Brits got them and developed a procedure for carrier landings the US then used.
Yes indeed. The planes were used internationally and served in South America in post war years.
They developed a turning approach to the carrier
According to Eric Brown, the development of the Corsair was conducted by a team comprising Vought, US Navy and Royal Navy personnel that was so intertwined it would be impossible to tease out who was responsible for each improvement. In the end all Royal Navy Corsair pilots were qualified by the US Navy.
@@rpurdey Thanks for the comment!
We're heading to yosemite day after Christmas, staying in groveland. Loved the video
Still there after all these years. I explored this and the PBM site 15 years ago. Awesome find!
Interesting.... As a fellow wreck-chaser of our sacred and beloved territories for half a century now, I, with absolute respect and reverence welcome your expounding on this one? Something would so appreciate knowing about! Should you feel inclined to enlighten me, I can assure it would be a good deed. Cheers, -Loyal Tarbet😅 13:58
Did you see the F4U airframe up there?
@@JillandKevin I don't recall.
@JillandKevin parts of it, the airframe that is...
I worked in that mining company
Nice! Thanks for the comment.
WAY, way back in the ancient 90s
All the gold in California is on the hill sides this time of year not a bank in Beverly Hills.
Cool looks to me striped for the transmission after a rod blow a hole in the pan pushed over the cliff for jest plan fun! Thank you for showing us a cool car that would be a great Sunday driver today.
I have been in the area but never to Mendocino. The town looks to be a nice trip. Now on my bucket list. thank you, nice job on the video.
My visit was brief this time but next time I will take more time to walk around the town. Very nice place to visit!
Wonder who owned it?😊
