I imported a bone stock clean Evo V 6 years ago for $11K CAD and absolutely loved it. But I didn’t have it for long because the insurance was too high for RHD and due to my age. Absolutely regret selling it because its the best looking Evo and one of the best handling (if not the best) Now these things are going to over $25K 😔
I’ve been following Adam since he’s gotten his 335i. But the second he got the evo v I’ve been drooling over them and they’re now one of my favorite cars and most definitely a dream car
Still want to let tdib drive my 3000gt with a fully built na engine. 13:1 compression, 9000rpms with 272 cams. Just about ready to be put through final assembly and dropped in. So don't know how much horsepower its going to make. Pretty much the only engine for a 3000gt done like this. Oh and the car weighs about 2600lbs.
I was thinking the same thing. I believe they are EPA exempt after 21 years and after 25 they are DOT exempt. Evo 4 are now legal depending on build date and evo 5 will be here soon.
The Evo III, IV, V & VI will always be the most special Evos because they were the most successful on the WRC giving Tommi Makinen his 4 drivers titles. The Evo V was the only Evo to give Mitsubishi the manufacturers title, but barely. Thanks to a Toyota breaking down within sight of the finish line at Wales Rally GB.
Finally, the Evo III getting some respect. It changed modern rallying from formerly a marathon style to sprint style racing with Tommi Makinen and Seppo Harjane winning the Safari Rally.
NO Such thing as Evo and STI war. Thats just an illusion for those immature fellas. Both cars are good in their own ways. I love my evo 8 some may say they love their Sti. Its just a preference.
The 5 is the best evo ever made. Light, Nice size, Raw as it comes. More aggressive looking than the 4 and not as max power looking as the 6 with the silly double layer spoilter, fishnet seats and bulbus ugly front bumper. The 5 is for sure the sweet. spot. It was actually the most successful model in the rally era too.
You and adam need to convince cleetus to do FREEDOM FRIDAYS at the factory and have all of you there it would be amazing!! Much love to all of you, grew up and grew my love dor cars with your guys channels.
I literally ripped my evo 5 through the mountains today with a buddy 😂 I can’t say I’d have similar confidence to drive how I drive in the evo with any other car
7:06 - and the reliability of the 4G63 over the Subie motors.. let's' not forget that lol. And no, never owned either as I'm a VQ boy but the results over the years speak volumes about Subie unfortunately (when going for any form of power past stock).
I've only owned a stock NA 4g63 in my old Galant... It was my first car at eighteen, twelve years ago now I suppose. I could NOT kill that thing. I ran it with no air filter with the pipe of my DIY "Cold air intake" hanging down like a half a foot from the road, for the last 8 or 9 months I had the car lmfao. Burned oil like crazy, never changed it because of that... Make sure you top off the oil and the thing never complained, it started up every time. I did run it dry on more than one occasion though haha. I had a flowmaster 40 series off my buddies v6 4 runner that he wrecked in his field jumping it into deep water drunk hahah. It actually sounded great though. Finally wrecked the thing in the snow with my bald tires on the 17 (? I think) inch rims.. I forgot to mention the thing had a Baer front big brake kit when I got the car, I think the guy who had it before my uncle was planning on doing something to the ole 4g and making a faux Galant VR4. Fun for what it was, I had fun making it my own and the girls all thought they were in some kinda race car (I was so confused by that one, it looked nothing like one other than the big front brakes, painted red of course, showing through the Enkei wheels, and the four freaking inch tip coming out the back ).
My favorite part about this video is noticing all the little things evo 5s end up with, like the door material starting the bubble, the mesh grills in the front losing their paint, and trust me that turning radius is still hideous when it comes down to it 😂😂
😂 I was thinking the exact same thing, I was like i need to get my door trims sorted out asap my passenger one is basically half hanging off, and same with the grills all the paint chipped off from stones. I have a 6 and the base of the spoiler has starting rusting from the inside bracket, another common problem apparently. But i still love it!
To say a 4g is better than an fj or any Subaru motor for that matter is an understatement. A 4g absolutely destroys an fj20 in every single aspect. Power output, drivability, raw power feeling, sound and reliability. In fact a 4g is one of the strongest if not the strongest cast iron i4 in the world. No your cute little boxer engine does not sound better than a cammed 4g on idle let alone screaming to 8500k+ rpm.
4:08 the Evo 8, 9, and 10 were only really raced in Group N Rally by privateers, they were never used in the World Championship. Plus, the Evo 7 WRC was, for lack of a better word, a disaster. Hence why the first 6 Evos have more of a reputation than the 7-10.
Kind of off topic, but I literally cryed when the Mitsu Eclipse came back as an SUV. ( Meaning it sucks that EVOs are gone...for now ... till they turn that legend into, maybe, an E-SUV.) Only time will tell.
After watching Larry Chen's video its insane how gripped up and sorted this car is, watching adam rip it through the compound at the speeds he did is just scary.
I my self have white evo 5, and at the moment its in bits. Slowly working to rebuild it. It didnt blow up, i was supposed to upgrade the clutch and now its just in a million pieces, my parts list is basicly a bible. Anyways, its amazing how i can feel you driving my own car, it sounds the same, somehow i can even see how it feels trough your review. Gave me goosebumps.
Its funny how cars developed for the same reason had such different personalities. Evos have strong motors and weak drivetrains. Stis have strong drivetrains and the motor is the weak link. Sti owner here saying there should be no war. Both are wonderful cars.

Evo V owner from Australia here. I like the look of these over the 6 and TME, but that is my personal opinion.
I always liked the TME better out of all the Evos. Although, the fog lights look better on the V.
Last time Adam let someone drive one of his cars on a race track it set itself on fire.
