Mr. Hudson and Mr. Manuel are having some great interplay in this version. Nice to hear the piano coming through on this version.
First reunion - without Robbie. RIP Richard, Rick, Levon .....
Hold it down Garth Hudson ✌️
This is simply timeless!
The drummer behind Levon is his nephew Terry Cagle from the Cate Brothers fame. Earl Cate is playing guitar here and I see Ron Eoff on bass, too, another Cate alumni. Brother Ernie may be in there somewhere though I didn’t see him. The Band and the Cate Brothers “collabed” quite a bit in the day. Check out the Cate Bros. “Radio Land”.
That’s cool how his nephew played with him. And did the cate brothers and the band ever record together?
@@jamesmccarthy5086 - I can’t say for sure, some research may turn something up. Most likely it would be the Cates Bros sitting in with Levon or some of The Band. Would love to hear that if it exists…
@@sirfultonbishop I’ll take a look and get back to you if I find anything
@@jamesmccarthy5086 - Great! Good luck!
@@sirfultonbishop so far no luck though I did find out that Levon helm was on the first few cate bros albums but can’t remember if any of the others were, they never recorded as like two groups together but on Amazon there is like a live performance of them to buy but the last I saw there was one remaining so I hope they release it on Amazon music cause I’d love to hear it but that’s about all I could find
Saw them twice awesome Band!
Their magic has to do with the roughness of the singing. They are signing most of the time in unison just like regular people would do. You feel that any moment Rick's voice is going to give way (like Joe Cocker's) but it doesn't.
Absolutely. Some of the most effective vocalizing in rock music is like this.
Did you mean Richard Manuel? Rick Danko didn't sing on this video.
Sorry. Yes it was Richard.
Was there, my first New Years run, Great Fun
This is the perfect example of Garthness
Pure jam session
garth was the mad scientist of the group.
Oh! Garth told me he had a cs80 but I never seen him play it before. 👍😁🇨🇦
You know Garth?
@@twoodluger4350 no. I just met him 23 years ago in 1997. I was a young bass player of 27 and he gave me a little pep talk. 🇨🇦👍😷
@@amonster8mymotherKOOL!!!!!
No. I just met him. Talked to him for half an hour once.
That was in the 80s before the dx7.
Fabulous! Great memory of excellent musicianship‼️‼️‼️
Garth"The Mad Scientist"Hudson!
Grandioso, las personas deberían aprender a escuchar esta música y olvidarse de la mucha basura que está saliendo
Hey now !! I was at this show and the other 3 nites too ! Some of the days between .
Garth surely owned them keys, but I prefere the mighty Hammond organ intro:)
It was a Lowrey organ on Big Pink. I'm not even sure he played a Hammond.
@@markgrieves1307 Well it sounds like a Hammond with huge overdrive, due to the leslie speaker. Thanks for the info anyway, cheers!
@@zoltanbotka He plays a Lowrey, that he customized himself. He made his own synths too
FABULEUX
The most amazing thing about this song is... no one knows what it is Truly about... You tell me???
Trippin' & Boobs ... Of course, back then I thought Everything was about trippin' & boobs. ;-) ^v^
Let's do it for him
Garth was the backbone
AGAIN, THE TRUE MASTER, MR. GARTH, IS OVERLOOKED BY MANY, ON ROBBIE, HE EVEN WENT TO RICK'S FUNERAL, SAYING HE WROTE THE SONGS, BUT NICE THE WA
Y RICK DONE THEM
Garth was amazin...
@@w5cdt I GUESS THE TRUE FACT, GARTH IS ALWAYS AMAZING. I ONCE WATCHED HIM 3 A.M. ON OUR BUS TO TORONTO, TALKING HOW HE COULD IMPROVE UPON BEETHEVONS 5TH. THE MAN IS GENIUS, ORGAN, PIPES ETC., THERE AIN'T ANYONE BETTER..
Who were the other bands on this bill. I see other equipment behind the Band.
Grateful Dead
Thank you .
Saw the Babd Philly in 1st and last tour.
This us not the best renfition.
Kom fite my brethor
I love the Band n their sound ...Robbie is no where after the last waltz ...says HE didn't leave the band ...lies Robbie ...but still have love for you , h great Robbie !
Of course Robbie left. He could not deal with the drug use which eventually killed two members.
@@daverubin8080 "He also logs the uses and abuses of his bandmates, especially Danko, Manuel and Helm’s use of heroin. Did he try it? “Yeah, it wasn’t for me,” he says. “But if you smoke grass or take a psychedelic or if you did coke or anything, you were in no position to be scolding anybody."
“And I didn’t know anybody that didn’t do drugs. It was such a normal. But what I did discover was that when it got in the way of what I wanted to do, when [I felt] ‘Holy - ! I’m going to die if I keep living this way,’ I went in the other direction."

He was monopolizing the doc camera & interviews to try to put forth himself as the voice of the band. I wish they'd found another guitar player from formation. Back then everybody knew at least one really good guitarist. I was & am a huge huge fan of the band
but not of robbie
Robbie was really scolding the 3 Band members that were doing heroin, he was more sad about it especially Richard who was the most addicted. He wrote in his book he felt there wasn't much he and Garth could do, since "we were no angels", but he had a wife and young family that kept him grounded.@@55vermeer
fuck, this is good
Thump Wilson-Garth Hudson
WOW--sad the Richard killed himself 2 years and 3? months later.
I know man I was just listening to Richard cover this song on his solo performance 🤘
Very sad. A titan in music as far as I’m concerned.
Wish they would have played this song as recorded tho. Never played it like on Big Pink. Different groove. TEMPO. Better
Two bass players? 😳
sorry. not as good w/o robbie.
Robertson said there were no real lyrics. He felt better about himself stealing all the collaborations from the heart & soul of the band that way I suppose. It's not surprising he didn't get the lyrics since he didn't write them & hasn't the heart & soul to understand them. Dude has some seriously bad karma waiting.....looking over your shoulder Robbie?
Looks like he got it.
Robbie wrote the lyrics that is well documented, and when other Band members co wrote a song, they got properly credited. You are so wrong Robbie was all soul, not that the other Band members were not, but you just don't know they whole story, do a little research, read Barney Hoskyns biography of The Band, and you will get a more balanced view. None of them were perfect, but Robbie was not the villain many make him out to be.
Garbage, Garth. Shame.
You're just a sour hater. Most likely talentless.
Let's hear you do better...
Guess you do it better
