You can’t put loyalty counters on Shrine of Loyal Legions, that would break the game! You could put a loyalty counter on your shrine, then move it with Nesting Grounds to give a free +1 to one of your planeswalkers every turn! The game would never recover!
The mechanical reason is because there are effects that add and remove charge counters specifically and effects like The Ozolith could move counters of the same type around to something with a different function for them potentially creating unintended combos.
I was thinking, "Bounty doesn't mean that within magic", and this explains why that's an issue. I put mana into Cornucopia, it represents more food or W/e, and then I find a way to move it, and suddenly it means someone has a price on their head.

Etrada's hit counters. I dont know if it was a joke or not, but it sounds like Spice thought it was literally signifying that Etrada needs to 'hit' your opponent to gain the counter. but "hit" in this case refers to assassin4tion. "Carrying out a hit" is a common phrase with bountyhunter's and such.

"Finally we have a counter to Palliation Accord, the only card that uses them" Less than a year later: Shield counters reintroduced in New Capenna, Palliation Accord gets errata changing it to using palliation counters
Mechanically speaking I think most of the artifact counters need to be converted TO charge counters… there are a lot of cards that refer to charge counters on other cards, and those cards usually interact with how many times or how quickly the charge counter ability is able to be used. If you think of charge counters like charges on magic items in d&d, it makes sense that something being able to recharge a magic tool’s energy should be universally able to do so (with some exceptions). Brick counters from amonkhet, for example, are a great flavor win with them representing the building or destroying of literal buildings and the gain or loss of their effects, but when the building is completed or demolished the artifact card is still on the field. The brick counters in this case represent the buildup or depletion of the special ability of the card/building. As in it’s charging up or losing charge.
This is an over 40 minute long video where an adult talks about a non-issue in a child’s card game, based off of another adult singing about said card game to the tune of a song from a cartoon older than Minecraft. Another beautifully executed video. Cheers!
fun fact: the reason that MTGO uses the "paw" shape counter for hoofprint counters is that there was a limited budget available to make counters, and there was one made that had to cover all animal-type things. it's not the goofiest association in the game, but even so, given the options that were available when making that decision, I maintain it's the correct choice.

For the wand variant i think charge is flavorful enough. Since those wand has limited charge before running out so you need to add it back or it is the throwable type and cant be recharge.
I see charge counters on magic items like the magistrates scepter and the wands to harken back to D&D and how all magic items also use charges. So I feel like those are fine. But yeah, charge counters on some of these definitely need rewording
Alright my vorel charge counters deck needs you to stop right there. How am I supposed to use surge node to take more turns than is ethically acceptable with magistrate's scepter otherwise?
