I think I may try and learn this.... as soon as my left hand has doubled in size and I have grown another 12 fingers on my right. In the meantime I'll just watch in awe esp from 3.20 on. Wow!
And Niels is ACCUSTOMED to playing with Oscar, a monster player among bassists himself, and Oscar was STILL able to consistently blow his mind! God-level piano.
I saw Oscar play this in Philadelphia in the early 90s as part of the Kool Jazz Festival. When he went into stride, I had to change my underwear. Unbelievable!
NHOP sound is ASS. He has the vocabulary, but not the language, and he played the same licks over and over again. Ray is the real GOAT. He maintained his sound, even during a time when everybody was trying to sound like Stanley Clark with that rubber band man bass sound in upright. S/O to Oscar for the diversity, but NHOP was not it. Butnin the 60s, NHOP had a great sound. Thays what happens when you bend to the will of the church of what's happening now.
Siamo nel 2024, chi conosce questo Brano, Eseguito dal Genio, OSCAR, che Suonando divertendosi, come i due Musicisti a fianco, Oscar ha Costruito UN CAPOLAVORO ! Come sempre !!
Listening to the left-side bassist (Ray Brown?) coming in and playing alongside Oscar early in this video, I just thought: I know about walking bass, but this is sprinting bass. No wonder the bassists kinda spell each other, when keeping up with Oscar is /that/ much work.
There's a picture out there of Hiromi Uehara meeting Oscar Peterson but I've never found a story that gave context to their interaction. I'm sure the conversation was wonderful and my mind would be blown if a recording surfaced of them playing together. RIP Oscar Peterson, you inspired many future generations of giants.
Winder why Peterson was always so packed and buttoned up during his performances... It must have been awfully stifling and hot! He would have been much better off wearing some free-style gown, like Niels.
@@ayokay123 i think at a certain point its just down to personal preference, i also favorite peterson over tatum but i wouldn’t argue against someone saying tatum was better
It is published and available, the entire performance. It was Montreux 1977. You canfind OP solo performance at Montreux 1975. Unfortunately, I could not find video recordings of Montreux 1976 (There is a sound record of "OP Big 6")
Oscar's jacket looks like it came straight from the drycleaners! Crumpled up with quite a few cigarette butt burns in it and red wine and pizza topping stains on it would be more in keeping with the sleazy mood of the music.
I think I sprained my wrist just watching Oscar on the piano.
Hahahahahahahaha
Are we not talking about my mans on the second bass solo? He was going crazy on another level
I KNOW!! His fingers are so smooth and clean it's crazy!
NHOP was the GOAT. A bassist with a virtuoso chops, and a massive harmonic brain. There are no more like him!
I think I may try and learn this.... as soon as my left hand has doubled in size and I have grown another 12 fingers on my right. In the meantime I'll just watch in awe esp from 3.20 on. Wow!
Best piano performance EVER, including everything, even classics.
Tho look of dumbstruck wonder on the face of Niels Pedersen at 3:33 is priceless. I love how he and Ray Brown just shake their heads and laugh.
And Niels is ACCUSTOMED to playing with Oscar, a monster player among bassists himself, and Oscar was STILL able to consistently blow his mind! God-level piano.
@@saulgood7968 But I wonder if Oscar ever watched Neils and Ray and thought "how do they do that?" 😏
Love Niels and Ray. Neil’s hand look like an epileptic spider on crack when he goes HAM during his solo…but OP is the greatest no doubt
These are two of the top 10 ever bass players who get floored by what Oscar is doing, I think that says it all. Incredible skill all round.
Just came from Charles Cornell's video.
Just came because my school sent me here
Me too 😁
3:36 Left hand playing rag time. Right hand flows into and back out of 6/8 time at that speed! Slow the playback speed down and it's still perfect!
I saw Oscar play this in Philadelphia in the early 90s as part of the Kool Jazz Festival. When he went into stride, I had to change my underwear. Unbelievable!
Correction: in the early 80s
obviously peterson is amazing, men he does magic with his hands. But the second bass solo.. both incredible !
Im so thankful that this is recorded
3:20-4:00 is almost superhuman.
Not almost, it is.
Did humans actually play this or some aliens descended from the heavens to grace us with this supernatural experience 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The greatest jazz performance EVER!!

Every human, musician, alien is nothing compared to this God,genius...i don't know why people believe only in God..i believe in Oscar Peterson!!!

I'd love to know what Ray said at the end.
if this was the piano olympics i would have him drug tested after that performance
If you translate this to athletics it’s like running 110 m hurdles in 4 seconds.
25 and above note pr. sec. is near imposible, but mighty Oscar is doing it like it was nothing..!!!
They put angels in his heart, but by god did they put the devil in his fingertips. Bloody hell.
Jesus. I don't know which is more amazing, Oscar, or those guys keeping up with him. Just demoralizing.
As I thought. The refresh rate on the camera isn't quick enough for his fingers. The master at work.
JESUS CHRIST MAN
everyone be talking about oscar peterson, but the bass player Ray Brown's playing too... dman
Listening to the left-side bassist (Ray Brown?) coming in and playing alongside Oscar early in this video, I just thought: I know about walking bass, but this is sprinting bass. No wonder the bassists kinda spell each other, when keeping up with Oscar is /that/ much work.
So THIS is where hiromi found her chops! I can legitimately hear Oscar's influence on her playing omg!
Chick Corea too RIP

Absolutely. I truly believe she's the best living jazz pianist, but she must have worshipped Peterson.
from the Montroe Festival 1977! A highlight in Jazz-History!
Winder why Peterson was always so packed and buttoned up during his performances... It must have been awfully stifling and hot! He would have been much better off wearing some free-style gown, like Niels.
this looks circa 1980....ok someone mentioned 1977...still a youngish oscar and ray
captain obvious: that's a good performance .
Just wondering how come we can't see the smoke out of this blazing piano?
3:20 is my favorite section.
more notes than pixels
Any other drummers trying to keep up with this? Fogettabouttit :0 !!!
At 3'10 Oscar is in GOD MODE
i watched this 98 times.......it isn't human....i'm very surprised that humans can create this....
რა კონცერტებზეა ხალხი დასწრებული... ასეთ ვირტუოზ პიანისტებს რომ ლაივში ნახავ და მოუსმენ, ჩათვალე ყველა ოცნება ასრულებული გაქვს.
Stop it these boys are swinging there a** off
My fingers are twisted, just thinking in attempting!
Montreux festival, 1977. From the album « Oscar Peterson and the bassists » (a must have !)
Did he need two basses because his piano would wear him out?
yep. I do like this performance.Fantastic.
wow hes almost as good as me:)
Simply unreal...
The two best bassists, bar none couldn't keep up. One or two choruses at most. He gave the "Tatum treatment'
Incroyable, génial, ça donne le sourire, ça ouvre les oreilles....c'est du jazz quoi....
Et ils ont du plaisir je ne lasse pas de les écoutes merci à eux
SUPER !!! GREATEST PIANIST/// офигенный пианист...
se loco
You cannot help but smile at this great musician!
if one played the piano with Oscar's intent you would know. Its all possible
My favourite and probably the greatest jazz pianist ever.
Nobody's ever come close.
@@ayokay123art tatum?

yo those bassists motor, and then the piano player savages them, it's unreal
Ray Brown was Oscar's Right Hand. NHOP was his left hand! 3 GIANTS!

Ray is Oscar's Left Hand. NHOP is Oscar's right hand!
Oscar, E' UN FENOMENO GENIO ! Non ci saranno più altri !!! 2024 .
Makes me smile every time :D Love Oscar so much
PURE CANADIAN BRILLIANCE!!
He learned classical training first. Then went meadow lark lemon.

wow i wish i could see his hands around 3:40...
O Olimpo se abriu para mais um deus.
Maravilhoso!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG!!!!
They dont make 'em like that anymore!! 😮
Yeah! And at 5:16 the piano explodes!
If you slow it down that's the only way it's less impressive.
Proof, the man was Not human.
3:35 He be speed running Super Mario Bros
Это полный пиздец! Петерсон лучший джазовый пианист 20-го века.
Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!¡!!!!!!!!!
NHØP's chops are really up there
O.m.g...
I love that grin he has at 3:53, it's like he can't believe he's getting away with this outrageous performance lol
ouch mahn
Not even I can play this in pretend piano.

Geez...this cat’s a 20th Century Einaudi.
