I just recently started doing the pin stitch start and end as well! I saw this on Nicola Parkman’s floss tube and it’s a complete game changer. I love searching to see how other stitchers do theirs. Thanks for your video.
Thank you so much for a wonderful tutorial. At 76 I am just starting cross stitch and love it. I watch videos everyday to answer questions about tips/ techniques. This is wonderful because other starts and stops with a single thread just makes a messy back. Since I like the fine detail of a single thread this is now my way to start and stop!
Amazing!!!! I’ve tried to watch tutorials for this before, and this is the first time I’ve understood it so clearly, and I really appreciate you taking them time to share this with us! Thank you, Lorrie! 😇
Love the pin stitch. thank you so much from another oc person. The back looks beautiful. I'm 75 years old and love to learn new, and better ways of stitching. started embroidery when I was 4 years old and loving it ever since. I was taught by my grandma. Thank you again, great video.
Thank you for this thorough video. Most show how to start but not how to end. Your back is beautiful and you should be proud. I will be stitching like this going forward.
Thank you. I have seen other demonstrations, yours is very detailed and easy to follow. We have to share what we know with others! Thanks for sharing your time with me.
You're welcome! I agree with your statement. We must share with each other. Between all of us stitcher, we have a wealth of knowledge to share and learn from. ❤
I learned the pin stitch a few months ago, watched this as a refresher. A bit different than the one I first watch, but basically the same. I'm 61, and yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks. Never heard of the pin stitch or the loop method until recently and I love them both.
OMgoodness you have just changed he way I’m going to be stitching- and I’m in my late 60’s; just getting back to this after many years away from it. ;)!! Thank you!!!
Wow! Your stitching is gorgeous. This is what I’m striving for, thank you so much for the tutorial. I can hardly wait to try the pin stitch. I have no doubt that I’m going to like using it. Love this sampler as well. Thank you again.
Ok, just spent the afternoon and evening using the pin stitch on Liberty Lane. I love not having to flip my frame over. Thanks a bunch. I knew how to start but not end it. Thank you!
Oh boy, you just opened up a whole new world for me and as I'm watching you I'm thinking that I can't wait to try this pin stitch out! Thank you, thank you!!!
What a great tutorial! I'm using the pin stitch while working 2x2 on 28 ct....cause I'm old and like to see what I'm stitching! You're so right...we are never too old to learn something new. I'm loving not having to flip my scroll frame all the time. This is a game changer for me. Thanks much!
Beautiful work! I’m 67 and just now learning about a pin stitch. I’ll be using it from now on, for sure. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this video. Great instructions! ❤️❤️
My Great Aunt Teeny would approve! She taught me neat backs count. I’m 76 and she taught me the fundamentals of embroidery starting at about 7 or 8 years of age. I have only been stitching on linen a few years and I have some pieces she did 70 or 80 years ago that are lovely.
Great to see a tutorial by a left-handed stitcher! I've been stitching over 40 years and this is something new to me. I'll definitely give it a go on those solitary starry stitches in the sky. By the way, i'm a floss-licker and bees waxer too! I currently put a good ole knot in the end of my thread and then end it by turning my stitching over (stitch in hand mostly) and running the thread under some existing stitches. I find this easy to find the end when I have to frog. I nearly always 'unstitch' when frogging, using a blunt needle to do so. It has got to be a very serious frog if I have to resort to the seam-ripper! I use scissors that you buy for cutting infants nails with - they are very small and have rounded ends. Thank you Lori for a super tutorial.
Sounds like we have several things in common. I too use a seam ripper only for serious frogging. I stitch in had too when I am working on 36ct and above. 40ct is too dense to stitch in hand, in my opinion. Have a great week! ❤
I have really gotten into counted cross stitch over the past year, but I’ve stitched on and off for longer than I care to admit! The back of my work has always bothered me and with your help, the back is looking BEAUTIFUL!! So a HUGE THANK YOU!!! 😊😊😊
I am so happy that you found the tutorial clear and helpful. Most importantly, I am happy that you now feel that you can give the pin stitch a try. You can do it!
I can honestly say this is the BEST pin stitch video in our community. Natasha did show me how to start (she was a good teacher...THANK YOU NATASHA...Stitcherella 27), but NOW I am going to put this to use because I can play this EXCELLENT video over and over till I get it. You have really made this crystal clear!! A GREAT BIG THANK YOU!! HAPPY STITCHING TODAY AND EVERYDAY!!
Wow! I really appreciate you teaching this old dog a new trick! The pin stitch will definitely make my backs look better and much less flipping my frame over and over. I do use the loop method to start as I can do that from the front as well. Thanks again for an excellent tutorial.
Thank you!!! I’ve been stitching consistently for over 40 years and have always shied away from pieces that have single stitches. As always you have sent me shopping. Now I’m on a new search. Lol!!!
Mischievous Stitches I have loads of Christmas ornaments waiting. Now I have to get them kitted up and done. If that stitch was ever explained in my presence before, I must have been in hiding behind a door...
Thank you so much! I’ve started with a pin stitch but didn’t know how to end one. This is a great tutorial! Thank you for sharing and explaining so clearly. Love all your videos.
Oh my goodness! Recently took up cross stitch after many, many years and found your videos - cannot thank you enough for your generosity in putting these videos on youtube! This pin stitch start/finish is totally awesome and, to copy many other comments, an absolute game changer! Just, WOW! Thank you, thank you, thank you! 💖 (And, by the way, I cannot believe some people would actually criticise your videos! I mean, what the actual?! I hope you ignore them and enjoy all your positive comments!)
This is great. I just learned the pin stitch this year after many years. I learned from a video to do mine from the bottom or side, but doing it as the first leg stitch is great! Thanks for a clear tutorial!
Thanks, Laurie! Your instructions are great. I never could understand the pin stitch until your video. The back of your fabric looks as good as the front! I can’t wait to do this on my own pattern.
This was so helpful Lorrie! Thank you! The way I learned the pin stitch was starting with the tail on the back...this looks like a game changer! And ending with it? Perfection. I'm really looking forward to incorporating this into my stitching. Thank you!!!
Thank you so much for sharing your pin stitch start and stop with us. I am definitely going to be giving it a try to see how it works. I to have been stitching since I was 13 and never heard of this before. I have seen several videos, but yours seems to be the easiest. Thanks again 🙂
Hello Laurie. I found your channel just when I needed it. I love the way your back looks and that is what I am striving for. The pin stitches will help me achieve my goal. Your instructions were easy and clear to understand. Thank you so much for doing this.
Yes! I love the pin stitch! The video I saw also mentioned to try to pierce the floss as you start. So the first two times you go down the center hole, try to pierce that tiny tail piece you are going to cut off. This helps anchor it a bit and keeps it from pulling out as you gently tug. This is an excellent tutorial, and your stitching is beautiful!
I try to pierce mine, but am unable to tell whether or not they have been pierced. Did the video that you watched address that? If so, I would love to see it!
Mischievous Stitches did you see Nicola Parkman of Hands Across the Sea Samplers flosstube #03 A Tutorial Starting and ending your thread with a pin stitch? That’s where I learned and she mentions splitting the thread 😊
This is amazing & thanks so much. I had a friend teach me to cross stitch. Now I find out that she didn't know everything.....LOL. But so thankful she taught me what she did. You have taught me well. My backs look so much better. Floss tube is the best thing I have found in years. I'm almost done a beach scene for my daughter & can't wait to finish it. Took me years to restart cross stitch again but with all the enablers on Floss tube probably will be staying with it this time. Thanks so much for all you do!!
I think we all have gaps in our knowledge so that we must make friends, learn from them, and fill in those gaps. I am so glad that you enjoyed the video, and learned something new. ❤
I've been using the pin stitch for a couple of years, but I've never tried starting and stopping on the front of the fabric. Now I'm going to give that a try. Your stitches look amazing. Thanks for the demo!
I am just returning to cross stitch after many years. There are so many new patterns and techniques. Thank you for sharing this one. I like my backs to look as neat as my fronts also. As a sewist, I always looked at the inside of something handmade to see if it was neat or not. LOL. Not very nice but a force of habit!! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much!! I have started using this pin stitch to end my threads now and occasionally using it to start. Most times I use the loop start because I primarily use 2 threads on either 32ct or 28ct. But when I have a length of thread left, I have used your pin stitch to start! And you’re right, I seem to be a bit faster! This is great!
I am so happy to hear that you are using the pin stitch and having a great time doing so. I had several questions In the comments about using it with two strands, and you've answered those questions with this comment. Thanks!
I have never used the pin stitch to end my thread. Thank you for doing a very good video on how to use this stitch so well. Also, I only used the vertical to start a thread. Now I will use the leg of the cross to start my thread. Thanks so much. 👵 Linda
I used to use that and for some reason I stopped. Thank you for reminding me of how neat and easy it makes stitching. I’ll definitely go back to doing it that way. Happy stitching 😊
Hi Lorna! I am happy that I have brought it back to your attention. I hope that you will use it again soon. I look forward to seeing your next video. Hugs! ❤
Your work is beautiful. Thanks for the tutorial. I had watched a different tutorial on this and they started with the pin stitch going horizontally through the middle but I like it going diagonally as you show it. Thank you again!
Super thrilled that you shared this. I have started with the pin stitch, but not ended with one. I am currently working on a piece that I will give this ago. Thank you for sharing!
I have been using the diagonal pin stitch to start my threads but I never thought to do it from the front lol! And I read how to end the thread, but I just couldn’t wrap my mind around how to do it. Seeing your demo was SO SUPER HELPFUL!!!! Thanks for taking the time to show and explain - it was very well done and I am switching away from trailing threads for the rest of my current project - hopefully I will perfect it by the end! Love you 😘 xoxo, Jen
Your stitching is gorgeous! Thank you for making this tutorial, it is very helpful and will eliminate a lot of frame flipping. I appreciate you sharing this technique that you learned from Nicola.
Hi, Lorrie! I’m so happy to say that I FINALLY understand how to end with a pin stitch after watching your tutorial! I had learned how to start with one, but was clueless on ending them, until today, thanks to you! 😊 I still want to practice a bit more, but you have come to my rescue with your clear instructions, and I sure do thank you 🙏! Hugs and good stitching! 💙 Meline
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I use it any time my thread is cut and i can’t do the loop knot. Yay! Love it! And for those single stitches in the middle of nowhere.
Hi Lorrie, great job on showing how to do the pin stitch! I love for the back of my piece to look as neat as the front, and the back of your piece is definitely that. I have heard other stitchers say that they don't care how the back looks as long as it doesn't show on the front, but that's not me. I could never be satisfied with a messy back. If that's OCD, then I guess that describes me too. Haha. Have a great week. Pam in Alabama
We have common stitching traits. I know that no one seeing my backs once my piece is framed, but so know it's there. I do my best to keep it clean. It makes me feel good. Have a great week Pam! ❤
THANK YOU so much for this tutorial. I’ve been trying to figure out how to stitch snowflakes and didn’t know how I was going to anchor the threads. You are an excellent teacher. ❤️❤️
Thanks for the tutorial! I can't wait to try the pin stitch to my work, and keep my projects lovely and clean in the fronts and backs. Thank you, thank you so much!!
Thank you! Very clear and so useful.Although I mainly stitch on aida, I have started to use the pin stitch to begin, but horizontally.Your idea looks much nicer so I am going to convert and I definitely have to have a go at ending with a pin stitch. You make it look so easy :)
Thanks for teaching this old dog a new trick! I was doing the regular pin stitch to start, but I didn’t know how to finish it with a pin stitch. I’m working on Sarah Brazier and this is just going to be a delight and a timesaver. I have to admit that I’m a little concerned that after snipping the threads that it will come undone. Maybe that’s my side of my OCD! LOL
I suggest that you practice ending with the pin stitch on the margins of your fabric before you out it to use so that you can get the "feel " of it. Have fun with it! Enjoy!
Love this Lori! Vonna had mentioned doing the diagonal pin stitch and I had been using it but not starting from the front. I did go and look at Nicola's video but yours was so clear and concise and a great visual as well. Thank you so much for demonstrating it.
Lorrie, it’s working for me! I’m having a little trouble with ending, but with practice I’m sure I’ll get it. After I stitch a good bit, I’ll take photo and share. Thanks again!
I can really see how it works great for a single stitch. I will have to try it and decide. I can see the pin stitch I'm not sure how I feel about it but I will try it and see Thanks for showing it. I always like to see how people do things. I do think it's great for a single stitch especially out somewhere by itself.
I agree that you can see it. I struggled with that for weeks, but not so now. When you look at the piece from a distance, it's not noticeable at all. I don't know that Although, I would not end my threads this way if I planned to submit the piece to be judged. Have a great week! ❤
This is the best demo of the pin stitch I have seen. I like the idea of using the pin stitch as the 1st leg of the cross! Thank you.
Thank you! I am happy that you enjoyed it. ❤️
So glad I found you today - 5 years after you made this! Great visual for me and today begins my life with the pin stitch! Thank you.
You are so welcome. I am happy that you found the video helpful. ❤️

This was the best demo of the pin stitch because you had the camera very close so I could really see. Thanks so much. Big help to me.
You're very welcome. I am happy that you found it useful! ❤
I just found this and it is by far the best explanation. Thank you for taking the time to share this!
Thank you! I am happy that you found it helpful.
This is so clear I did a diagram while you were talking. This is the first one I've seen on linen. Thank you.
I am happy that you found it clear and helpful! Have a lovely week, and Happy Stitching!

I just loved this instruction of this stitch. I am in my 60’s and just discovered it. Thanks for such a clear description.
You are very welcome. I am so glad that you found it helpful.
Thank you for the instructions on the pin stitch. Heard of it but you made it very clear...thanks again!
I learned the pin stitch a few months ago, watched this as a refresher. A bit different than the one I first watch, but basically the same. I'm 61, and yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks. Never heard of the pin stitch or the loop method until recently and I love them both.
Once I learned, it changed the way that I stitch. I use it in mode every project now.
OMgoodness you have just changed he way I’m going to be stitching- and I’m in my late 60’s; just getting back to this after many years away from it. ;)!! Thank you!!!

Ok, just spent the afternoon and evening using the pin stitch on Liberty Lane. I love not having to flip my frame over. Thanks a bunch. I knew how to start but not end it. Thank you!
I am so happy to hear that you are putting the stitch to work for you. Not flipping that frame is definitely a time saver. Happy Stitching!
Thanks for a great tutorial! I’m stitching for 30+ years now, and I learned something new!
We're never at a point where we can't benefit from learning something new, are we? I get excited when I do.
❤
Thank you for sharing the pin stitch. Very clear and easy to see.
You're welcome! I enjoyed doing it!
Wow! Just discovered this video and blown away by the Pin Stitch! Awesome! Thanks!

This video is so Amazing!!! You explained the pin stitch so well from start to end! I finally get it! I’m putting this technique to use tomorrow!🥰
That’s great! Let me know how it goes for you. If you have any questions, please ask. ❤️
Thank you for the tutorial!! I’ve been stitching for almost 40 years and this is a new trick for me!!! Yay!
Your work is beautiful. Thanks for the tutorial. I had watched a different tutorial on this and they started with the pin stitch going horizontally through the middle but I like it going diagonally as you show it. Thank you again!
You are very welcome! Learning this stitch was such a game changer for me.
Enjoy! ❤
I love this video! I’ve watched several videos on pin stitch but they were never close enough to see! Thank you! This has been really nice!! ❤️
Thanks! I am happy that you found it useful. ❤
This is a great tutorial! Thank you so much for teaching this old dog a new trick! 😁

Super thrilled that you shared this. I have started with the pin stitch, but not ended with one. I am currently working on a piece that I will give this ago. Thank you for sharing!

Excellent tutorial! So happy to see how you end with a pin stitch and will be trying that immediately 😊
Thanks! It makes me happy to know that you will be putting it to good use!
Your current project will be perfect no matter what! ❤
Beautiful‼️ Thank you for sharing‼️ The back of your cross stitching looks so neat‼️ Very well explained ‼️
You're very welcome!
Your stitching is gorgeous! Thank you for making this tutorial, it is very helpful and will eliminate a lot of frame flipping. I appreciate you sharing this technique that you learned from Nicola.
I am happy that you enjoyed it. Happy Stitching!
Thanks for such a great tutorial on the pin stitch, I'm using it now and love it. Glad I found this video!!
You are very welcome! I am happy that you enjoyed the tutorial!
Meline
This makes me happy! I am glad that I gave instructions that you were able to follow along with.
Happy Stitching!
I think you’ve found your calling! Wonderful tutorial. I can’t wait to try it. Thank you.
That is such a sweet thing to say. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this tutorial!
I use it any time my thread is cut and i can’t do the loop knot. Yay! Love it! And for those single stitches in the middle of nowhere.
Thank you so much! You taught me a new trick! Now I only have to find a way for 1 over 1 and I‘m all set... Happy Stitching, Dunja
If you figure that one out, you'll have to teach me. 😁
Oh my goodness, your back is amazing! Thanks for the tutorial. I’m trying it tonight. Thanks, Lorrie! 💗
Thanks Ruthie! I am so glad that you enjoyed the video and will be putting the stitch to good use tonight. Have fun!
I have used the pin stitch to start, but never understood how to end. Thank you so much for a very clear demonstration❣️
Happy stitching 🌻
Your welcome! I am happy to know that you are going to put it to use. ❤
THANK YOU so much for this tutorial. I’ve been trying to figure out how to stitch snowflakes and didn’t know how I was going to anchor the threads. You are an excellent teacher. ❤️❤️
Thank you so much! I am happy that you found it helpful.
OMG. Awesome tutorial. This has changed my stitching. I just learned how to start with Nicola but I never figured out how to end....thanks so much!
You're so very welcome. I am happy that you are so excited to put it to good use. ❤
Thanks for the tutorial! I can't wait to try the pin stitch to my work, and keep my projects lovely and clean in the fronts and backs. Thank you, thank you so much!!
Great! I am so happy that you enjoyed it, and plan to apply what you learned to your stitching. ❤
Thank you! Very clear and so useful.Although I mainly stitch on aida, I have started to use the pin stitch to begin, but horizontally.Your idea looks much nicer so I am going to convert and I definitely have to have a go at ending with a pin stitch. You make it look so easy :)
You're welcome Miriam! I am so happy that you found the tutorial helpful. It's always great to see things in a different light.
❤
This changed my way of stitching! Thank you!
Great! I am happy that I could teach you something new that works so well for you. ❤
Great tutorial. Thank you for taking the time to do it. I have used Pin Stitch for starting a thread but not ending and now I know how to. 😊
I am so happy that you found the tutorial useful. ❤
Thanks so much for showing us how to do what works for you! I can’t wait to try it! ❤️
Thanks Rebecca!
Great video!! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with all of us. Happy stitching.
Thanks Pam! It was my pleasure.
Great demo on the pin stitch. I finally understand it! Thank you so much!!
Thanks Maria! I am happy that you found it helpful and easy to follow. ❤
Very helpful! Thank you for taking the time to show this, have seen various videos and think I will dive in!
I am glad that you found it helpful, and am excited that you will be giving it a try for yourself. Happy Stitching!
OMG so good and a great help to me on my Ronnie Rowe project. Love you Lorrie great video.
The ks you so much for the wonderful comment. I appreciate it, and am glad that you plan to use what learned so soon. ❤
Great tutorial, Lori! Very clear and easy to follow! Thanks so much for doing this! Going to try it once I get done with this one over one! Lol.
Thanks Jan! I am happy that you can put this to use. I can't wait to see what piece that you choose to work the pin stitch on. ❤
Lorrie, it’s working for me! I’m having a little trouble with ending, but with practice I’m sure I’ll get it. After I stitch a good bit, I’ll take photo and share. Thanks again!
That's great! I am so glad to hear it! I'll look forward to seeing that pic. ❤
Excellent...Thanks! I have tried the pin stitch many times, and will try your method soon.
Thanks! Let me know how it goes. ❤
This is very helpful! Thanks for filming it!
I am glad that you enjoyed it. The pin stitch has made a huge difference in my stitching.
