Currently on 3.2 XR500 and no percentage gets an A+ for me on waveforms. I finally settled on running a continuous ping to my DNS server and adjusting until I didn't see any spikes under load.
I do sometimes wish more folk would point at the fq_codel underneath, and understand the properties of fair queueing, and AQM, also. Maybe even take a packet capture.
Can you isolate the issue by just connecting 1 device to your router? Does that also result to buffer bloat even you just have 1 device connected to your router? Thanks
Great video. So it seems that A LOT of people are complaining about Netgear's Nighthawk XR1000 apparently not working as it should (QoS). 1. Is that really true? Is it a failed product? Are there better alternatives? 2. I'm having lag spikes and fluctuating ping in games. Will the XR1000 (or any better alternative) help my situation? Thanks in advance.
I would get a NetDuma R3. It's by far the best router I've ever owned! It automatically takes care of QOS so you don't lag and you can use their geofilter feature to find the best servers for the games you play.

Always have multiple speed tests just to be sure. Normally your ISP will have one. Then of course speedtest.net or any other speed test you're familiar with. Make sure you're doing it on a wired connection.
I’m struggling finding the right slider settings and bandwidth settings for the blufferbloat test, hit A a few times but can’t get the ms lower than 16ms for up and down Rn my net gear router tests 800/800 on my 1000/1000 plan. Settings in dumas are 75 down 60 up on 1000/1000 with an A/B rating and 500/500 on blufferbloat…confused rn
Try sticking the upload at 100%. Throughout the years I've rarely seen connections that actually have buffer bloat on the upload side even though some tests may say so. Download can be a bit more tricky. Set your congestion control to always and your downloads slider to 70% If you get an A rating then your all good. Don't worry about an A+ rating. If you still have buffer bloat you can keep lowering the download and see if it goes away. I know on a previous firmware with the xr500 I couldn't get waveform to give me a zero on buffer bloat no matter how I adjusted. The latest xr500 beta has that fixed. Seeing is how you have a gig up and down you're probably not saturating the line unless you're constantly downloading new games & torrents. So if waveform says you have + 16ms I wouldn't stress to much. What I would pay attention to is the geofilter's ping when you're playing a game. When adjusted correctly most games will only fluctuate a few milliseconds. If you start a download and the game has a ping spike then you need to adjust the download side more.
Mostly I will only be using anything for competing so I wouldn't be downloading any files in scrims, etc. But the goal is to get the lowest ping and most consistent high speeds from my plan to my Xbox Series X from the XR1000 v2. Any suggestions? Should I bump my upload on congestion control from 60% and move the download down from 75% to 70%? @@LowPingKing
TLDR: get the R2 The XR500 is more powerful overall. However updates have taken years. The XR routers are far behind in features. The R2 will always have new features before the XR routers. With the R2 you can also beta test the newest stuff the team is working on. I have both the R2 and xr500 and I use my R2 because the xr500 it's so far behind. As I understand it the XR routers will eventually be caught up to what the R2 can do. If that ever happens in the XR routers will actually be worth owning. So if you want the newest things the team is working on the R2 is better. If you don't mind waiting for a newer features then the xr500 is still a darn good router.
