Thanks a lot for this! Any recommendations for an Asus router for a large house with quite a few devices connected? I just got a 86uPro but it doesn’t quite reach everywhere that well.
I’m using the ASUS router for my PlayStation, Xbox and Switch in WiFi. Do I have to add them separately to that list or can I just use your set up and will automatically detect it as a “gaming”?
The UDP port 27051 is it specified after what game you want to be priortized? I tried downloading merlin for my asus x82U but it failed. I couldn't really grasp how to make it work. Do you have a video for it?
Hi my friend I have optic line 1000 up 1000 down what overhead I must choose so far the cable wan choose for my gaming is excellent if i choose Ethernet v lan it will be better ?
Hi, so is "gaming" a placeholder for a device name like say "MygamingPC" or "livingroomPS5"? or by calling the rule "gaming" the router automatically detects the gaming traffic from the network regardless of what device is the one playing the game? If so, how would you prioritize one device over another if multiple devices are in use playing games? Thanks a lot
Service name is just a placeholder. You can name it whatever you want. If you want to prioritize one device before every other device. Have the one device above the rest of the qos settings. The list reads from top to bottom according to Asus documentation.
Does this help with streaming as well? I don't usually have problems gaming, just random lags here and there, but when I stream my game has terrible lag. I have 100/100mbps upload/download speeds my router is RT-AX56U
I use the same router as you and after doing this my download speed is stuck at ~240mb down from the previous 900+mb. I followed everything that you said in the video and set my upload and download bandwidth according to the speeds that I was getting before.
Traditional QOS doesnt support for speeds over 300mbs. If you want to utilize all of your bandwidth, i suggest installing asus merlin custom firmware and installing flexqos or cakeqos.
@@CuttaChaseBeats Okay so I installed merlin and flex QOS and followed your Flex QOS tutorial. When I disable Game Device Prioritizing, QoS turns off too. When I enable QoS, then Game Device Prioritizing turns back on and my speeds are down from an average of 940MB Down 110 Up to ~650 Down and 80 Up.
@@TruExFlame Leave Game Device Prioritizing On If It Turns it on when you enable flex qos. Also, if you have your bandwidth set to automatic. Set it manually. this will fix your issue. :D
@@CuttaChaseBeats I already had the bandwidth set manually to 95% of the speeds after getting an average by running a test multiple times with QoS disabled (FlexQoS GitHub page instructs to manually set the speeds between 85-95% of what you get with QoS disabled). I've also noticed that when I enable QoS, my bufferbloat test result (Waveform) consistently gets the B grade, where if I disable QoS it consistently gets an A.
The bufferbloat tests wont show accurate with flexqos because it prioritizes assigned packets in its iptables. If it does not show your full speeds. I strongly recommend resetting your router and starting fresh to fix the issue. You dont need to flash again, just reinstall flexqos.
Adaptive QoS does give better speeds but "Unclassified" packets that it defines doesn't obey QoS rules. There is a permanent solution called "FlexQoS" that addresses and fixes the issue. github.com/dave14305/FlexQoS

Gaming routers in general can help with internet. I currently have the Asus GT-AX11000 PRO which is really good. Also the nighthawk routers are really good plus they have more features that Asus does not offer. They help maximize your internet speed and lower ping.
Yes. This will solve it guaranteed. Tested many times. But if you have download speeds above 150mbs+, i would suggest using FlexQos as it will let you use all of your download speed. Traditional qos is bounded by cpu.
It is a good thing. this is what qos does. helps keep your internet from going over your actually bandwidth and distributing to prioritized devices. Download speed does goes down by a little. These settings keep Downloading at the lowest. This is why you are seeing slow download speeds with multiple devices
