    I love neem oil! ☺️👍🏼 I use systemic only after the flowering season. I don’t want to kill the bees and the butterflies in my garden. Thank you for this video. 🌵☕️🌵

      neem oil seems to kill most of these insects. although i might not suggest it on Succulents that has farina as neem oil removes them

    Found this video an hour ago and really appreciated your instruction. Now I know why they keep coming back! I have been hopelessly trying to fight mealy bugs on indoor plants for two plus years, alternated between soap and water, insecticide (3 in 1 spray), and even rubbing alcohol. Couldn't figure out how to get rid of them without throwing my plants away. Thanks very much!!

    This was so great! I moved from North to South ( USA) I dug up some favorite plants from my gardens. Now living in the south, the different sin seasons are a learning experience. I brought my Rose of Sharon tree to my screen room along with other bulbs that are growing. I have purchased some different types of cactus or succulents. I am trying to get to know this gardening environment. My rose of Sharon tree had mealy bugs or scale infestation really bad. I used Dawn soap and water, no alcohol last night. I don’t know how they got onto the re- poted tree and how to truly treat am replant my cactus and succlants here in the south. You said high humidity brings them. It is humid here. They do not have ants because they are in my screen house. How did they get here in the first place? I want to make sure they die n not return, what do I need to buy for all types of soils to treat the soil and keep them from returning. I have a homedepot and Lowe’s or Walmart near me. The only this is Covid-19. I try not to go into stores to protect myself and my family. Can you suggest home remedy??

    Thank you so much for the excellent information you provided on this video. I did not protect my soil from the falling insects... I've been trying for so long to get rid of all kinds of insects, including mealy bugs, but unfortunately, no good results. I wish i could use systemic insecticide, but it is forbinden in Québec. I've tried black soap, Pyrèthrine, diatomée earth, alcohol (for mealy bugs), and even Permethrine repetedly for 2 months but in vain. My infestation is not onty mealy bugs but also fungus gnats and thrips. I am so discouraged that i feel like throwing away all my plants. I don't have the heart to do it. I have over 200...😢
    I'll give another try with your good advice. Thank you!

    I am treating a few plants for mealy bugs. Is there a time frame on when you can really know you have killed them all and they can be reintroduced to your plant collection? I have never had a pest problem in my collection and have a wandering jew that has them. The plant is delicate and huge! I have chopped at soil level to repot in fresh soil but like i said, it is huge and I am afraid of repeating the problem if I miss one.

    • @SucculentsandSpikes
      @SucculentsandSpikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hello Megan. Unfortunately there's no time frame. That's why you have to observe them (the plants) after a week. aside from that all methods must be repeated again, some actually may require more than twice.

    • @drakeweddner
      @drakeweddner 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I spray once a day for 3 days and then 1 once every 3 days for 12 and after that you can be confident any egg on the plant has hatched and been killed

  • @meganpahl3612
    @meganpahl3612 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So, if I have removed all soil, its been a week, and so far so good, I should be ok right? I ask because the wandering jew is a very delicate plant and it hates having its leaves wet in the first place. I have seen NO signs on this particular plant and its been a week. Now. I will give it another week. fingers crossed.

    I thought I had mealy bugs but now I’m not sure. My 12 year old plant was big snd hearty but now is near its death 😭. The plant stems on my monsteria are black on the inside with white oozing out 😳. It’s huge so will b difficult but I’m going to repot to heck for root mealys bc I see tiny white nodules but nothing else. My cactus I think for sure has scales after watching this video. I’ve had most of my plants since 2004 and have never had any of the insect problems or any fungus until now. It started with spider mites 3 months ago. Thanks so much for your help!

    thank you 😊..my astros were infected a few weeks ago, buti nakita ko agad maliliit pa lang yung mealy, I was noticing pailan ilang ants and I remembered a post, I also saw some brown spots sa astros ko ang parang wala ako nakitang growth so sinilip ko ang roots at ayun nga po infested which I now know is from the seller kase a friend who bought from the same seller got infected too (we both received the plants potted and we both planted the astros with the soil from the pot sent)...nung una hindi ko alam ano talaga maganda remedy, naisip ko ang hydrogen peroxide, binuhusan ko muna ng alcohol yung pot secluded of course then bumili ako, diluted it with water to kill the bugs, washed the roots with water plus dish soap, then later rinsed with water then air dried...I actually had to uproot every pot kase baka meron, I also had to change my soil..I still have the picture nakakatrauma yung experience talaga

    • @SucculentsandSpikes
      @SucculentsandSpikes  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Ezschaelle 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just started December po kaya hindi ko din po alam, in lieu of this 2 days pa yung astros sa pot before ko nireplant and I saw the roots, wala naman kapansin pansin, nun lang po naipwesto na sila sa may arawan ako nakapansin ng ants, siguro out of panic na din kase ayaw ko mamatayan na kahit DE lang yung nakadikit sa root inuproot ko pa din yung iba 😂😂..better be safe than sorry later at di ka matahimik kakaisip what went wrong when on the first onset you know you could have prevented it po, although I lost 2 days trying to prevent a preventable cause happy ako kase walang casualties and that I detected it as early as I did, no signs of cut and rot as well

      hello thanks for watching boss. for the spider mites you need miticides ( you can order it online, pls follow the instructions on the label ). mites proliferate if the area or plant has been dry for quite some time. it also could from from other plants brought by insects or birds. if the plant is tree-like, you need to apply systemic Insecticides for the mealybugs. for rust fungus, there are many fungicides that you could use like nordox. but pls, with all these chemicals, exercise extra care handling them. use proper protective equipments.

    • @SucculentsandSpikes

    the larvae of Cryptolaemus montrouzieri are doing a good job as well, and it's in the context of IPM. But unfortunately they can't be bought everywhere. And here in the Netherlands they are not cheap too. 25 larvae cost €11,75. They do help, but I didn't experience a total solution to the problem. Only the method that you mentioned helps a lot.

    I just don't understand why even talk about the "old instructions". Every video goes on and on and on without getting to the point......🤐

    Anyone who allows their plants to get as bad those shown here SHOULDN'T be growing them. I sure you neighbors don't appreciate the insect nursery you're harboring.

      I can only control what I'm growing on my property.
      I've thought about what you're saying before.
      But I've come to the conclusion that you just can't fight mother nature. The pest from the neighbor's yard will come into my yard. The birds & wind will drop weed seeds into my yard no matter what.
      As a gardener, you just have to constantly keep up on your own garden & fight your own weeds & pests & dont worry about the neighbor's.
      By the way, it's funny, that every year when we buy and release lady bugs into our garden as natural aphid predators, they tend to fly away into the neighbor's yards. I don't get upset about wasting $20 on ladybugs because I know they are helping to control the aphids in the neighbor's yards as well, which in turn is a win win situation.
