    Thanks, Robyn! Fabulous as always! Here's a tip that I learned from another online artist when collaging/gluing that might be helpful. She takes an old magazine or catalog and works on a page when applying glue to the back of a collage piece. Then she turns the page and it sticks to the one before because of the excess glue from the collage piece. Great way to use up magazines and catalogs and keeps your next piece of collage from sticking to the "scrap" surface.

    • @RobynMcClendon
      @RobynMcClendon  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes Thanks Sue, I'm familiar with that, I do that with old book pages that I use in other ways, of course in this video because it was being filmed for professional reasons I didn't want extras in the camera frame, I'm so glad you enjoyed it! :)

    I could imagine a sticky transparent book cover could cover the whole plate instead of tape for the final lift and possibly be useful for art purposes.

    Hi Robyn, I am teaching a Visual Journaling with Mixed Media & Collage class through Osher Lifelong Learning (for adults 50+ years) in Pittsburgh, PA. I just discovered your videos and am sharing them with my students. I have watched A LOT of gel print videos and I have to say that your videos are some of the best I've seen. I love how you talk about your process while you are working and especially your aesthetic choices, and how you bring in a bit of art history too! That is how I like to teach! I also really enjoy your earthy, less-is-more aesthetic, with the subtle colors. That is also my aesthetic! I want to ask if you have a video on the eco-dying process, using plants and mordants to make botanical prints on paper or fabric? I've been looking for a good video on that! Thanks so much for your videos! If you don't know of it, you might enjoy the Facebook group, "All About Monotype Printmaking." There's some great work on it, including gel printing.

    Beautiful, elegant collage. Cleaning gel plate: what works for me is to brayer on a thin layer of paint, let it sit for a minute, then “pull a print” with any piece of paper, which cleans the plate completely in a flash! ;o) Tissue paper works especially well, even a used piece. ROBYN - where do I find your printables for the altered book project? 🙏

    • @RobynMcClendon
      @RobynMcClendon  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lynn, typically that is a good way to clean the plate. However when you work the way I do to get my old walls with weeks of build up that drys and is reactivated, I've personally found, and those I've shared this with agree Packing tape is incredible and it leaves tons of beautiful paint for several other techniques that I show, No fussing involved...Thx for watching!

    Hi Robyn - New subscriber here, and I'm new to gel printing. Beautiful colors and end result on this project! I'm applying a good quality acrylic paint (not Arteza) thinly on the gel plate and then applying my image (laser printed original photo on standard 20# bond) and the paper with the image just soaks up the paint off the gel plate but the image does not transfer. Any suggestions?

      Hi Yes Thank You for finding my channel and your interest. The Rolodex project is a "book as Art" structure. We are approaching a out of date item that has fallen out of use and giving it new life as an object of art and a place to put images and language. I put on of my favorite poems in mine, others have done similar things. There is a playlist on my channel for the Gellidex and all of the videos from the begging are in order there! Robyn do you worry about copyright with prints?

    • @RobynMcClendon
      @RobynMcClendon  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Thx for your question I get asked that a lot. The main rule of thumb when you use photos from magazines is to manipulate them at least 50% from their original state so for instance with the grunge photo transfer I’d say they are 70-80% change and then I only use elements from the print so you almost won’t even know what the original source is. I also will use vintage photos like the one in this video which is in public domain and so there is no copyright Infringements. There is a legal precedent for this I can’t recall all of the details but Life magazine tried to sue an artist whom was famous for using one of their photos in his art work and the court ruled in favor of the artist saying he had altered the photo significantly to not look like the original and that case it was I believe a 40% alteration so I error on the side of 50% or better. I think the main thing is make the image yours do enough to it so that it looks like an original idea and not just a cut and paste 😊✨💫. Take care and Happy New Year 🎊
