    This information has me thinking about the DK order hall mount, an ancient red dragon that died fighting a great corruption on a glacier north of Icecrown. I wouldn't say that was necessarily old god related at this point. Especially considering how tightly kept of a secret it was that the dragon was there at all.
    I don't think we would be telling Alexstrasa anything she doesn't already know.

    Eh, it's pretty morally grey, with the waters. After all it says _keep_ aligned with order, not *make.* And given that the alternative they just saw, with a dragon falling to chaos, was Galagrond, a dragon that could've killed Azeroth, it makes sense that purifying the waters to shield dragons from that, was a good act in their eyes. From an order point of view, anyway.

    Tbf even in Norse mythology Týr is not the good guy everyone paints him to be. He tricked his best friend Fenris into being trapped, just because him and the other Gods were afraid of how powerful Fenris had become, even though he never really did anything wrong.
    There was a prophecy that Fenris would bring about the Ragnaork, but it was a self fulfilling prophecy, because Fenris only got all pissed and murderous BECAUSE Týr and the other gods trapped and betrayed him. He never had any intention of killing the gods and destroying everything.

    • @onnol917

      Yeah, Norse mythology is deep and full of drana/faults from the Vanir&Aesir

    • @grimnir8872
      @grimnir8872 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's literal Assassins's creed garbage. The Gods KNEW Fenrir was to cause issues by literally tracing the lines of his fate, and Fenrir grew massive and showed no signs of slowing. For fuck sake, Fenrir's SONS devour the Sun and the Moon.

    • @onnol917
      @onnol917 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@grimnir8872 they 'knew'? No they didn't, they were a jealous, insecure decietful bunch that would not accept any challenge to their power. Fenrir only agreed because Tyr promised he could bite off his hand if they tricked him. And only Tyr had the sense of honor to back up his promise after Fenrir was tied down.
      And the sons of Fenrir are no damnation of Fenrir himself.

    • @Aerinndis
      @Aerinndis 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@onnol917 Incorrect. In norse mythology, Fate (with a capital F) is the most powerful force that exists. The three Norns had already written Fenrir's fate to be what it is, but they never showed why it'd happen, leading it to become a self fulfilling prophecy when the gods tried to prevent it, but in the end it would've happened regardless because Fate decreed it to be so. The true villain in this isn't Fenrir or the gods, but the Norns. That's the thing with fate. Once inscribed onto Yggdrassill's bark, you can struggle against it all you want, but it will get you in the end no matter what you do. Its rather cruel like that.

  • @sccampbell
    @sccampbell 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    It's been 13 years since the Cataclysm. It's frustrating that the writing team keeps going bigger and bigger with the cosmic scope of WOW instead of taking a break and refocusing on the smaller stories that have been developing in the decade since the Cataclysm on the initial continents that literally millions of people fell in love with. I'm reminded about what I love about The Mandalorian and Andor: rather than saying "hey, remember that single word referenced by throw away baddie in the OG trilogy? let's make an entire movie about that!" Favreau, Filoni, and Gilroy said "let's do a good story set in the Star Wars Universe." I think the latter works better than the former. I felt like the non-faction war stories in BFA were the latter, and the Titans/Old Gods/First Ones stuff in BFA and Shadowlands were the latter. I hope all this Titans/First Ones stuff turns out to be more Rogue One and less The Rise of Skywalker.

  • @Juniper_Rose
    @Juniper_Rose 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I could see our characters telling Alexstrasza and, of course because the water did its job... She refuses to acknowledge it. Because "even the most willful dragons" are under their thumb.
    It sets up a great deal of complexity. Whether your character believes her or knows they're unable to do anything about it is up to you, but it would definitely feel very interesting that the player knows what's going on, but the Titans are a thousand steps ahead so figuring out step 3 doesn't mean shit.
    It's a lot like your theory about the Jailer; it's not luck if you have all the time in the world for your pieces to fall into place.

    My personal fan-theories about the Titans.
    1. The original Drakonid and Dragonspawn are transformed titanforged. Their incredible sense of duty (also the Dragon's) is very similar to how the titanforged don't have any own agency beyond their duty. This is the titan's "corruption". Also, dragon architecture looks very similar to titan architecture. It wouldn't be surprising if some were former titan facilities, which begs the questin, where are the personnel?
    2. Neltharius with his close connection to the earth was the only one to realize that ordering the elements and worldsoul is not "the only right way", that they might not want it. In an act of rebellion, he created the Dracthyr, a being that has the powers of dragons but is free of the titan's corruption. This is when the old gods struck and increased his concern to outright obsession to topple the titan's order.
    3. Odyn created the Djardin. Their drive to kill dragons and appearance as magma-based big humanouds is too similar to be a coincidence. (Especially the fact that the Djardin focus on the black dragonflight, the once that have renounced the titan's duty.)

      @@zennim125 It has never canonically been stated where the Dragonkin come from. The most direct was that a Q&A which said they are mortals who "hang out with dragons"
      In Blackrock-descend, there is a boss who drains a netherdrake to transform acolytes into twilight-dragonkin. There are also Dragonkin in Shadowmoon-valley among the Dragonmaw who apparently learned the method as well.
      On the dragon-isles however, we also meet children of dragonkin and they as a race have lived on the isles while it was hidden away.
      My take is simply that the original Dragonkin were the titanforged inhabitats of the titanic-structures that Valdrakken or Wyrmrest-temple are based on.

    • @zennim125
      @zennim125 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@therethan-family1234 first i need to give you credit because i did not remember those examples
      while yeah, only direct way it was said was in a q&a, we can be sure of two things because of what we see in game
      they only exist thanks to dragon influence, you need "something" whatever it is, from dragons that make other mortals into dragonkin, they having a whole cycle outside of that is beside the point, they become another species.
      we know that what makes dragons what they are now is the keepers and titans blessings, that is why they are different from protodrakes, and what they have of different from these drakes is what they have in common with dragonkin, what we see that makes a dragonkin a dragonkin is exactly what differentiate the anatomy of a dragon and a protodrake
      shape of mouth and head, extra limbs, connection to the aspects and so on
      i really don't think they are titanforged because it would mean the curse of flesh affected them differently from the other races and also it breaks the timeline a little since the curse of flesh comes after the war of ancients

    Perethales seems to be consisted by two greek-origin parts;
    Pere (Περί) meaning “around” in greek and also being the first part of many archaic (and modern) greek names
    Thales (Θαλής) which is actually a name itself, Thales of Miletus (Θαλής ο Μιλήσιος) known pre-Socratic pholosopher and also Mathematician and Astronomer among others. Now, the interesting part connected to the wow lore is that he was a hylozoist (one who thinks that matter is alive i.e. containing soul(s) (Υλοζωιστής).
    Also, Thales is known for his theoretical and practical use of geometry, and is often considered the first person in the western world to have applied deductive reasoning to geometry (and by extension is often considered the first western mathematician). Geometry resonates a lot with Zereth Mortis, the First Ones etc.
    Could that be another hint?
    P.s Love your videos :)

    Serious question. How does a prepatch event during Shadowlands work in a time line when Dragonflight is post time skip? Is the time skip at the prepatch launch and Shadowlands effectively years in the past despite being current tier?

    I think the lore books work well if we steadily progress towards letting more people know about those things and them becoming an actual thing. It gets weird when these 4th wall lore texts somehow suddenly become expected common knowledge.

    Also about Avalon, there is a city/port from the Tolkien universe called Avallone on the island of Tol-Eressea wich is near Numenor wich is also called atalante in sindarin(elvish).
    So it is not so far fetch that there is an other island (sunken or not) near the dragons isles just like in the old tales of Avalon / Numenor /Atlantide.
    sorry my english is limited.

      It's worth pointing out as well that Avalon in legend is shrouded by mist, reachable from any body of water... Rather similar to how Kalimdor, Pandaria, Dragon Isles, and the backside of Azeroth had all been shrouded themselves.

    I think the books should be attached to a quest (perhaps the zone quest that all dungeons come with), or not included at all. Lore is not storytelling, but it is a tool that can heighten and inform the story being told. If the information in these books is not worth of influencing the story, then maybe it shouldn't be included at all. As was pointed out, Alexstrazsa would want to know this information (we may even find out that she already knows), and in addition to that, our characters have a relationship with Odyn himself; we could and should confront him with this information. It all seems like an unnecessary detachment of the overarching lore and the story of Dragonflight. It is also worth noting that Halls of Valor is a dungeon we will be doing for the sake of mythic+ variety and thus squandering this Lore-fueled reason to go back there and hit some major story moments.

      Blizzard has always put lore in books laying about in the world - in prior years, you needed to actually keep your eyes open for books laying around that you could click on and read (the old Sargeras lore was still in books in the game last time I checked, even, lol!) So...I kinda like it being lore you need to go out of your way to find *in-game*. It's not just handed to you - now, if all important lore was handed down this way, it'd be crappy. But it's just fun lore tid-bits our characters wouldn't already know.

    Perhaps those dwarves are actually ones we’ve already met, the earthen in Deepholm perhaps? In that case, the book would have been written around or before the end of the Black Empire, before Helya and Ra-den walled the elements off to trap the Old Gods armies

    Ok, in game thing. Some players might not want to RP telling the dragons this information, thus there should never be an "in game" exposition of said information. But some players would definitely want to let the dragons know, thus there will be sometime in the future a way or dialogue or something in game that will let players know that the dragons have this information. It is new and fresh lore right now, give it some time (a patch or two) for the writers and developers to get said information into the minds of the npc's. I think it would be VERY strange if at the same exact time the player base finds out this information that the npc's would have dialogue already discussing it.

    Hmm, so how does this blue bot reveal impact what we know about the black dragonflight and their corruption? Did Neltharion learn of the mind controlling waters from an old god's whispers? Was it this Revelation that proved the initial seed that peeled away his loyalty and fidelity to the other aspects and led to his overall corruption? And did the other aspects seal their fate when they closed off the dragon isles during the sundering before they knew they were betrayed, preventing them from bringing the black dragons back under control?
