Love your information I am 63 and love this game have been playing it from day one after a friend told me about it you have made it even more fun because of all the little things I have missed......TY
Yes, the role-playing reality really starts when you find a follower [modded or not] who interacts and comments about things. I was at a forge and my young follower asked " Would you make something for me, too?". I wish I could have answered "Sure, what do you need?" I made him a new shield and enchanted it, too.
I love Marcurio, he is awesome and can use any weapon expertly. Lydia is my housemaid but I take her out once in awhile to keep her skills fresh then bring her home and take Marcurio back out for the big stuff.
I've played skyrim sooooo many times but I never really equipped my followers with anything, or just like arbitrary stuff. I'm so glad you spelled it out for me and told us what to equip for maximum DAMAGE
Eric was the first follower I had. I gave up using him as I seemed to spend most of my time rescuing him. I did try Frea of the Skaal but I found her all her little self righteous utterances so annoying I just dropped her and went back to Lydia. If I use a follower it tend to be Lydia until I can get Serana, though I do kit Serana out with better armour and one handed weapon. Though I do find her necromancy a bit off putting. Having become attuned to the sounds of spiders, skeletons and such being enemies to listen out for and suddenly hearing them scurrying around behind you can be a bit unnerving.
Faendal will always be my favorite, Faendal survived Karstaag with me. I gave him a Daedric bow with daedric arrows, his damage output to Karstaag almost seemed unreal, he was wearing ebony armor without the helm. I play as an archer myself so having 2 archers makes for fun fights. All you gotta do is steal Sven’s girl and Faendal is your friend for life. He also levels your archery so he has many uses.
In my last playthrough I used Kharjo quite a bit. He's sneaky, does excellent for ranged with either a staff or a bow and is also great in close quarters with a sword and shield. I outfitted him with a full Ebony set including the Ebony Mail as the chest piece. The one downside was that he would occasionally blow me up with a Staff of Fireballs if I got in front of him.
Cicero and Kharjo are my favourites I remember I played skyrim with my friend and she told me Kharjo was invincible (she thought he was) , so we got him as a follower after doing his quest and he later got killed by a lurker :( so when I got back to my house, I downloaded an invincible follower mod. My khajiit is saved! :D
there is a simple simple mod that adds a book of resurrection: I download it because vampire attacks always kill some of my merchants and I need my places to sell stuff so . even if in game Adriana Avenici dies and she leaves me an inheritance of 100 gold the actual npc continues to work and I can sell her stuff, by simply resurect her, and if I do before the actual in game day is over she wont even register as dead in the game so no inheritance. :). the same with any other thing. I sometime span this when I need leather kill and resurrect a bear or dear until I get some 10 pelts or maybe 20 and then resurrect and let the dear/bear go because no dears/bears were harmed in the making of these leather armors :)).
Erandur is my go-to follower. I get him when I start the game and keep him untill I want to restart. I always put him in armor, and give him staves to use. He's a beast in battle, and a really nice guy (unless you heal him. Then he gets snippy.)
My favorite follower will always be Kharjo. He's a decent fighter, has some nice dialog, and there's nothing better than his soft fur to get you through a cold night in Skyrim. He does need several sneak-enchanted items if you're a rogue character, though, or else he'll give you away too easily. The only time I play with Lydia at my side is when I'm doing Boethiahs quest.
Aela is my favorite follower and wife choice. I also really like j’zargo a good bit as a follower. But I usually like kajit. They entertain me with the way the speak, and j’zargo is no exception.
I have 10k hours, and I've spent more time with both of them than you've even played. = ) Jen is one of my favorite melee followers. Rangers also tend to open locks for you, if that's not your thing.
@INTERNET STRANGER She's top three best followers in the vanilla game, no question. It's likely her, Marc and either Farkas or Vilkas. Kind of a shame that the DLCs focused so hard on making more overpowered followers. I mean, they're (all four) not even in the top ten anymore. Frea, Rilas, Serena, Rayya, literally the entire DG faction... It's like they decided that since they dropped the ball so hard on so many followers that they were just gonna lose the whole level cap, while still keeping it implemented on everyone in Skyrim. It's a damn shame. I feel like after level 30, I either need a housecarl, a DB initiate or one of the DLC followers. Still, with decent Fort Health stuff she can hang. Dual wielding is that good. = ) She's one of the few (maybe Erandur too) who has any amount of radiant dialogue. I wanna say Erik has more than average as well.
@INTERNET STRANGER Definitely some of the best lines in game. She's one of them yes, but as Faendal proves, it takes more than dual wielding to be great. = ) Her massive health pool definitely helps her be awesome, and dunmer in general are much better as followers than bosmer. = D Also, she's not a punk.
I rarely write comments or suggestions, but I was excited to discover a way to get a companion in Skyrim when the one you have vanishes for no good reason. I lost a companion in the middle of a cave exploration and, after searching exhaustively, I finally gave up. I went to Whiterun and looked for another companion and was told several times that it "looks like you already someone with you". In fact, it was the same story all over Skyrim. I tried several "restore you companion tricks"...yeah yeah follow the dog and a few others that didn't work. Then totally by accident, I was hanging around Jorrvaskr and asked the attractive archer if she had any work. She said that there was an artifact in a cave that she needed help recovering, would I join her. I told her sure, and we set out. When we entered the cave it dawned on me that if I completed this quest, the alliance would be over. I turned around and abandoned it, but I continued the game. Low and behold she is following me, fighting alongside me and all the other behaviors characteristic of a companion. I was pleased, to say the least. Thanks for listening.
I think I’ll go with Jenassa this playthrough, I like her dark, ascerbic wit! I wish those of us that play on PS4 could use the hairs and faces you have given your followers. We’re stuck with the ugly originals! Thanks for that Sony! A useful video for a new or returning Skyrim player, many thanks.
i hired her on one of my earliest playthroughs of the game n did the DBH with her (even gave her armor to match) n she was amazing. she also had a surprising amount to say in certain areas n she came in clutch in more fights than i can count. gear her up n she is a monster
Some of the best followers I've found while exploring Skyrim are two nords from the thrisk tribe in Solstheim instead of helping the rieklings, if you help the nords you'll get access to two Dremora class Nords followers that scale up to lvl 60 Dremora class is special because it's the only class that specialize in both 1h and 2h meaning they are some most customizable followers in game
I like Janessa, she will also duel wield staffs if you put them in her inventory. I keep her supplied with an assortment of melee weapons, bows and staffs. She will use whatever the situation calls for very proficiently.
Love Lydia, and always use her. But when I try other followers (I know there's no reason for that, Lydia rules) I like to use Erik The Slayer. And listening to Raining Blood while he murders a dragon to death is beautiful xD
15:44 Only follower I actually like to take is Serena from the Dawnguard expansion. She is literally my favorite. And he's grey because he's dirty for living in Rifton. (Mercurio)
I like the witch you can get as a follower. I think you have covered her before, and I can't remember her name or the tower where you get the quest before you can recruit her, but I like her voice and personality, as well as the quest to recruit her.
I'd suggest using the chaos enchantment on stahlrim weapons, the buff on frost enchantments gets applied to the fire and shock portions of chaos, as well.
I like Jenassa and Marcurio. But I am not sure who I prefer of the two. Another I like is Illia, I find her to be a very interesting as well as useful follower. Though I'm not sure how good she is... I also made the sad mistake of placing her as the Steward of my house that I built near Falkreath and ended up losing her as a follower... I lost all the stuff I gave her... Which was a lot..
Yeah, I think Illia is my favorite. She's not quite as powerful as Marcurio though. It's a real shame about not being able to ever recruit her again if you ever dismiss her. I made her my steward in one of my playthroughs so at least she wouldn't just disappear.
Weirdly, if you equip Gregor the Housecarl with a Staff of Paralysis, he turns into an OP maniac - he paralyzes everyone, then jumps into combat with a sword and shield. And if you give him a bow, he is *hell* on Dragons. He doesn’t just rush into melee. He’ll stay back and pincushion them. I’m pretty sure does all this while he’s just a generic warrior build too. Best tank follower in the game, hands down.
Derkeethus & Serana. I've always felt a bond with Derky, maybe bc i feel i have a little story with finding him. Plus he doesn't die. Love his charm. He's def my ride or die
Great Video! I, like you, enjoy using Lydia since i figured out how to make her more stealthy. She only attacks once she is spotted and thus will be engaged, so any items that increase her sneak will make her a more enjoyable follower for a stealthy player. Also if you increase her magika she loves to dual wield staffs.
@@TRafael82 Late reply, but NO. They DO require that you make sure they are filled (with FILLED Soul Gems) so it can be a pain if you forget to check before a battle!
A few notes on Jenassa: She's an Amorous Adventures follower, so travels with her can be particularly interesting. She's been made over, several times, appearing in sets such as Bijin Warmaidens, Skyrim Beautiful Followers, and GCE NPCs Replacer. My favorite version appears in GCE, which is only available for LE. It's easy enough to port, though.
I’ll definitely have to give some of these followers a shot, the only one I’ve used other than Lydia are Aela and Serena. I like Serana a lot, she’s pretty handy if you deck her out
Erik, Belrand, Jenassa are some of my favorites. I also like Jordis the Shield-Maiden who is basically better Lydia as she doesn't complain about carrying your burdens. She carries them proudly!
for PC there's a mod I found recently that will allow you to fix almost all the problems with a follower's limitations. It's called Project Proteus. you can make them forget or learn spells, level them up, change their skill set, etc. I love that it also has the ability to change the weather if you're sick of the constant blizzard in the northern parts of Skyrim. it has both oldrim and special edition versions.
Brelyna Morvayn from the college of winterhold is comically powerful as a steward/essential. Any time bandits spawn on my house she immediately flames them with an atronach and electric spells
So I just got off the bus ride to school and half the time I’ve been thinking “What’s the best follower in Skyrim for when I get home?” And now I open TH-cam and find this video on top let’s goooo life revolves around meeee
She has much more character and personality too then a lot of other followers in the game. Including all the characters in this video. Very underrated and one of my favorites.
One of the alternate start mods started me off as an old friend of Erik the Slayer. He was my follower right from the start, no cash out of pocket, and we had many fun adventures together until I married Aela and told Erik that three's a crowd. I did like his combat style quite a bit while we were together.
My favorite followers: Erik, Farkas (unless I marry him, in which case Vilkas), Serana. Sometimes I just "forget" to guide Serana home and she will act as my second follower in tandem with Erik or Farkas
I always use Serana and Inigo together. My character is married to Serana, and inigo is his best friend. I keep all my followers in proudspire manor when not being used. Got like 7+ followers in my house.
I hired Janessa, she's great... Unless you happen to be on the Daedric quest for Meridia and she comments that " Dont expect me to loot any corpses, we shouldnt be here,". at least in my Playthrough. Edit: I sacrifice Marcurio to Boethiah. >:)
I love how Vorstag jumps on top of the dragons head and starts chopping holes in its skull. I have never finished a game with Lydia because in some point in the game she just vanishes never to be seen again. I like to have Belthor who is not on this list because his stats is probably not that good but roll with me and you'll have god-like armor and weapons which makes up for the lack of skill. The reason I like Belthor is he looks so buffed, like a buffalo ready to charge right through anything in our way. With the right armor he looks like a beast.
marcurio is literally a tank in my let's play. no matter what he will not die, i am so surprised. he ran back to me after getting launched in the sky by a giant i just watched him fight. i was certain he was a goner, but he ran back to me eventually. i have him in heavy armor with one weapon and the other hand for spells btw

Love your information I am 63 and love this game have been playing it from day one after a friend told me about it you have made it even more fun because of all the little things I have missed......TY
I hope you're still enjoying the game!
Yes, the role-playing reality really starts when you find a follower [modded or not] who interacts and comments about things. I was at a forge and my young follower asked " Would you make something for me, too?". I wish I could have answered "Sure, what do you need?" I made him a new shield and enchanted it, too.
I always use Erik the slayer he just makes me feel like we are both starting our adventuring together ❤
*Talks about Marcurio* "Can wield any staff eh? Even the Wabbajak…."
Zathem have him dual wield staffs lol
He never wields any staves that I give him and if I give him anything other than heavy armour, he gets wrecked. 😶
i was more thinking of the Sanguine rose.
I use Erik the Slayer quite often even though I'm level eighty-ish. He's a BEAST of a warrior.
yes friend he is a great warrior, he maybe doesen't have the higher level but the way he fights is better than any two handed warrior
How do you get skyrim se ?
@@martinshaw1610 I'm a console gamer (who rarely has internet) so I just bought legendary edition at my local game store.
I think Ralis is very underrated. He's a funny little dark elf.
I use Kharjo whenever I find him. Khajiit love
play kajjit get karjo or jzargo as followers
6:01 And he has the Argumented Frost skill
...
Wow it's cold today!
This isn't cold, you don't know what cold is!
Good job there is no augmented argument spell... Just sayin
Great friend to have around.
I really enjoy Faendal too
I accidently killed Faendal =(
He was my favourite but i lost him somewhere, i was a new player back then and almost cried searching for him. Moved on and got lydia
I always use him too
In my last playthrough I used Kharjo quite a bit.
Cicero and Kharjo are my favourites
I remember I played skyrim with my friend and she told me Kharjo was invincible (she thought he was) , so we got him as a follower after doing his quest and he later got killed by a lurker :( so when I got back to my house, I downloaded an invincible follower mod.
Cicero is so good if you give him chillrend
Another person who likes Cicero? Finally, a person of taste!
Marcurio has been m go-to companion since I discovered him, he's basically been my main follower for years.
Get Ree'd Me too. I always go back to him
❤ Eric the Slayer 😎... "By the nine! I wonder if any of my ancestors walked these halls!"
Erandur is my go-to follower. I get him when I start the game and keep him untill I want to restart. I always put him in armor, and give him staves to use. He's a beast in battle, and a really nice guy (unless you heal him. Then he gets snippy.)
I heard he also gives a lot of information if you visit new places more then other followers is that true?
My favorite follower will always be Kharjo. He's a decent fighter, has some nice dialog, and there's nothing better than his soft fur to get you through a cold night in Skyrim. He does need several sneak-enchanted items if you're a rogue character, though, or else he'll give you away too easily.
The only time I play with Lydia at my side is when I'm doing Boethiahs quest.
Kharjo is so wise he says our dovah life is more important than his amulet he had since he was a cub
Aela is my favorite follower and wife choice. I also really like j’zargo a good bit as a follower. But I usually like kajit. They entertain me with the way the speak, and j’zargo is no exception.
The khajiit speak funny indeed but Kharjo is my preferred cat friend.. he is far less arrogant
Poor Marcurio. I never knew him. I always ended up sacrificing him to Boethia. Lol.
Yeah same haha, i now regret it because i wanna see him using staffs
Ditto i am so devoed i killed him after watching this he lasted longer than anyother compaion
Ppp ye
I have around 500 hours in Skyrim and I never realized that Janessa and Stenvar were in this game
I have 10k hours, and I've spent more time with both of them than you've even played. = )
Jen is one of my favorite melee followers.
She's one of the few (maybe Erandur too) who has any amount of radiant dialogue. I wanna say Erik has more than average as well.
@INTERNET STRANGER Definitely some of the best lines in game.
She's one of them yes, but as Faendal proves, it takes more than dual wielding to be great. = )
Her massive health pool definitely helps her be awesome, and dunmer in general are much better as followers than bosmer. = D
Also, she's not a punk.
@@iami3rian394 lol look how proud you are saying that..
@@JuniorJuni070 oh a troll. On the internet. Fancy that.

Keep these videos coming please. Skyrim is life.
Serana is my absolute favorite. She's been helpful in many tight spots.
as much as I like Serana she is lack luster as a damage dealer. Her magic is not very useful and her weapon skills aren't very good either.
Can you show stats of characters at the side, while talkig about them, please?
It is just for ease of comparison.
Love your vids!
turn on closed captioning, it lists them, you just have to read fast. :)
also you can go to elderscrolls fandom (has ads unfortunately) and see the stats listed.. elderscrolls.fandom.com/wiki/Erik_the_Slayer
He doesn’t care they review girls because they are sad little boys who obsess over things they can’t get
He the best player to me😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
I think I’ll go with Jenassa this playthrough, I like her dark, ascerbic wit!
I wish those of us that play on PS4 could use the hairs and faces you have given your followers. We’re stuck with the ugly originals! Thanks for that Sony!
A useful video for a new or returning Skyrim player, many thanks.
That's why I love xbox I hope Sony let's up though I downloaded mods as soon as I downloaded the game
Do you know what Armor pieces have been used in the video for Jenassa?
@@SimGozz they’re a black recolour mod for regular eleven armour
@@magnusjarvinen8598 and the hair and face mods?
i hired her on one of my earliest playthroughs of the game n did the DBH with her (even gave her armor to match) n she was amazing. she also had a surprising amount to say in certain areas n she came in clutch in more fights than i can count. gear her up n she is a monster
This should be called "every mercenary in Skyrim"
Ikr, the mercenaries are absolute powerhouses, they're all (or almost all) definitely worth that 500 gold
Some of the best followers I've found while exploring Skyrim are two nords from the thrisk tribe in Solstheim instead of helping the rieklings, if you help the nords you'll get access to two Dremora class Nords followers that scale up to lvl 60
Dremora class is special because it's the only class that specialize in both 1h and 2h meaning they are some most customizable followers in game
When you mod characters skins so much they dont even closely resemble themselves
Improved list;
- Inigo.
- Inigo.
- Inigo.
- Inigo.
- Inigo.
- Inigo.
Indigo isnt in base game tho
i like Sofia better tho...
InOtterSpace No Auri? :(
Wish I could have him, I always see memes of him, unfortunately there ain't a mod on PS4 for him. 😪 Sad boi hours
Yea, indigo is the best mod I’ve ever had
I like Janessa, she will also duel wield staffs if you put them in her inventory. I keep her supplied with an assortment of melee weapons, bows and staffs. She will use whatever the situation calls for very proficiently.
Love Lydia, and always use her. But when I try other followers (I know there's no reason for that, Lydia rules) I like to use Erik The Slayer. And listening to Raining Blood while he murders a dragon to death is beautiful xD
Serana and Mjoil will always be my favorite followers
My favorite is Mjoll the Lioness. I don't know her "stats" but really enjoy her companionship and haven't had her die before.
Well yes usually they only die when you hit them after they're downed
I really like the both the warriors from the orc strongholds. they're pretty rad
15:44 Only follower I actually like to take is Serena from the Dawnguard expansion. She is literally my favorite. And he's grey because he's dirty for living in Rifton. (Mercurio)
Erik’s enthusiasm is so much fun. Gregor has some really nice dialogue too and is my A1 tank.
I like the witch you can get as a follower. I think you have covered her before, and I can't remember her name or the tower where you get the quest before you can recruit her, but I like her voice and personality, as well as the quest to recruit her.
Illia , i killed her before i walked in the room , had no clue she could be a follower.
Do you need magicka for staffs?
@@TRafael82 Late reply, but NO. They DO require that you make sure they are filled (with FILLED Soul Gems) so it can be a pain if you forget to check before a battle!
I hired stenvar yesterday. went into my 1st dungeon with him and he died after 2mins lol. Yeah I left him to fight 3 Sabre cats
Faendal was my first and often ends up as my steward.
I’ve been circling starting a YT channel for a while now. Your words have helped nudge me a little closer. Thank you!
Jenassa and Mercurio were my 2 choices. He is awesome in Dwarven Dungeons. She is fantastic with info and watching your back
I literally couldn't stop laughing at ERIK THE SLAYER and when hes T-posing
Marcurio is my #2 follower
Marcurio is one of *the* most competent mage followers, it's almost scary.
I always use him for the boethiah quest. that or the mercenary in windhelm.
He’s a very arrogant follower as well.
@@whiterunguard5633 He is, so when I finally get tired of his snark, we pay a visit to Boethiah and have a chat about his attitude.;-)
@@whiterunguard5633 My character married him and he's not as much arrogant anymore hehe
I am a spellsword using fireballs or other fire spells, and dawn breaker as my sword
My follower is Serana
Meridia: **angry daedric screeches**
I am a boundbow with a summon daidric lord
My point is, every time in fight Serana is not killed by enemies but by the friendly fire from me... That bug of Serana attacking me triggers everyday
@Marcus Antonius Serena is unkillable. The thing that she attacks the Dragonborn is just a glitch
But nobody would carry my burdens more than Lydia ❤️
Lydia is my favorite follower and being a straight female, I marry her every play through because I love her so much
why do you like her so much, kind of a bland personality
I love Uthgerd! So brave and strong!
for PC there's a mod I found recently that will allow you to fix almost all the problems with a follower's limitations. It's called Project Proteus. you can make them forget or learn spells, level them up, change their skill set, etc. I love that it also has the ability to change the weather if you're sick of the constant blizzard in the northern parts of Skyrim. it has both oldrim and special edition versions.
Jenasa... every play through and all the way to end game :)
But i also like Mercurio for the Dwarven ruins
Same and I marry her every time
NOOOO YOU FORGOT THE BEST OF ALL AND MY FAVE TELDRYN SARO

So I just got off the bus ride to school and half the time I’ve been thinking “What’s the best follower in Skyrim for when I get home?” And now I open TH-cam and find this video on top let’s goooo life revolves around meeee
Outside of her incessant speech about Erin, I like Mjoll... like a lot. She's an amazing 2 hander user.
Oh. I'm ultra late to this party. Sorry peeps.
She stops talking about him if he gets eaten by a dragon.. I don't know how he ended up in that dragon nest though.. *whistles off key*
She has much more character and personality too then a lot of other followers in the game. Including all the characters in this video. Very underrated and one of my favorites.
Hey Man, can you do a story build play through please?
My favourite followers to use, Lydia and Serana.
I actually get sad every time I see Stenvar now. He was my favorite, and he died in a falmer cave. RIP
Use console command to spawn him
resurection mod - simple and efective
Use normal saves every so often so if he dies you can just load a save from a few minutes prior and continue
One of the alternate start mods started me off as an old friend of Erik the Slayer. He was my follower right from the start, no cash out of pocket, and we had many fun adventures together until I married Aela and told Erik that three's a crowd. I did like his combat style quite a bit while we were together.
I haven’t had many followers but I have had the best moments with Valdimar. I love that man.
I'm a simple man, I see ESO+Skyrim and i click like there is no tomorrow
video well that's not good for me lol
@10,000 subscribers without a single video 👍
@10,000 subscribers without a single video it's a better meme than the "_____ subs without a video" shit.
I love Jennasa. I usually have her running around with Mehrune's razor and Vold's lucky dagger
Jenassa is my go to follower just because of the dialogue.shes so good with archery and fun to roam the world with.
Me: Uthgerd, wait there.
Uthgerd: DOES COMPLETE OPPOSITE.
Uthgerd is good in the early game because she'll immediately get herself killed and her armor is worth a lot of money.

Edit: I sacrifice Marcurio to Boethiah. >:)
Do you know what Armor pieces have been used on Jenassa in the video?
@@SimGozz at 0:34 thats a retexture that makes the Elven armor a darker color.
