Honestly, Erik the Slayer is one of my favourites. He always has something to say about new locations, and he actually feels like more of a friend then a hired goon, and I really like that.
Erik EASLEY has the best history, the character is framed about a guy who loved TES but he got cancer and died before Skyrim came out, Bethesda added Erik in to pay tribute to the man

Lobojoe that’s exactly who I have with me at all times with that exact setup lol. I gave him a ebony mace with a 30 fire damage enchantment on it with a ebony shield. He plays super well with my two handed orc build.
Still on with noob magiks? Archers are best followers in vanilla or even modded skyrim because they shoot endless arrows out of 1 arrow you give them. They kill then you loot the arrows and the lootz :P $ is da best.
datuputi777 I made like 10k arrows so I’m good on that. But sometimes I use a reikling and give him a dadreic arrow so he chucks a million dedreic arrows. The mages are just stronger in this game.
@@HughbieDubie23 Definitely not breaking the boundaries of gearing upgrade in game. When you're weapon deals about 1k+ damage, your double enchanted rings gives you 300+hp and 70% 2 handed weapon damage allowing you to reach the dream damage; at that point magics is useless by a margin to huge for it to climb.
My favourite is Teldryn Sero. He is amazing in combat and i’ve noticed (with me at least) that if a single enemy attacking you in the midst of battle, he’ll come to your aid even if he’s already busy with another. I legit feel protected with him around.
He has a high level max, too. His snarky attitude is really fun and his dialogue points to him being over 200 years old and maybe kinda possibly the Nerevarine. It’s just as likely that he isn’t, but he very well could be.
I once married Aela but it was way to Alabama for me that she didn't stop to call me brother. So Serana it was, then I learned I couldn't marry her. Now I'm hangin'with my boy Cicero playing knives and stuff together
I have been with her in many days (in game), always protect her, give her some great weapon and armor (But I don't know why she never use it). And she never calls me or my name
I’ve always loved Cicero. He’s simply the best, most unique and most fleshed-out companion. He’s funny, has a great backstory AND doesn’t object to you committing crimes like the goodie-two-shoes followers.
The Chad Dragonborn who has Sven as a follower. Because what dragon-slaying hero of legend doesn't have a bard as a pack mule in his personal retinue so his story can be told?
Its way too many, I'd prefer just 5 followers who vary in class. And give them interesting backstories, it'd also be cool if they could contribute to quests and dialuges
@@jamesbudd3096 You know, I was thinking about whether I liked fallout 4's or Skyrim's followers. I like the fact that in Fallout 4 followers were expanded upon, however because there were so few I realized I liked Skyrim's follower system better. Another thing is it felt more real to me that you have multiple Mercenaries and "low" tier followers. Which in turn makes the very good ones stand out. Last but not least the diversity of the followers was something I really enjoyed as well in Skyrim, so many different races and classes that a Breton warrior is not the same as an Argonian one. Just my two cents have a good day!

I made Golldir an absolute beast by giving him legendary Stalhrim armor and and dragon bone weapons which are all enchanted to multiplay damage and give him magic resistance. He's now guarding my family at my house as a steward, together with the huscarl :p They cut through bandits like a hot knife through butter.
Serana is the only follower that holds any weight mainly because she's the only one that actually has an arc with the player: both start as complete strangers, then she reluctantly trusts you next thing you know she considers you a friend and by the end she even has feelings for the player but she's afraid of marriage due her vampire ritual. She feels like an actual character all other followers you literaly do a single quest for them and suddenly they consider you their best friend. To be fair Cicero kinda has an arc too, specially if you find him before joining the brotherhood.
Lydia! Even those who kill her with the Mace of Molag Bal, put her soul in Azuras Star and use it to enchant a pair of ebony gauntlets, can't let her go.
Erandur is a redeemed hero archetype done really well. There's a lot of character depth just through his dialogue as you adventure, would love to see him pop up in another game.

Cicero is like that friend who's (very obviously) slightly insane, but you just can't stop hanging out with them, because you never know what they're going to fricking say and it's so entertaining
stats don't mean shit when your AI can't win against anyone else and you have no perks. J'zargo is locked forever to using his novice spells doing zero damage. You pretty much stated the worst followers in the whole game besides Sven.

J'zargo's no level cap is actually a bug. Brelyna, Onmund and him are supposed to cap at level 30. I do agree with your list. Followers who can dual-wield and doesn't use hunting bow are the best imo. You might add Ralis Sedarys in the list. He's literally a Dunmer Briarheart. Give him some decent equipment and he can solo Karstaag.
That is because Ralis Sedarys is the strongest follower in the game in terms of damage output. Having both Dual Flurry and Extra Damage 2. The only other follower with Dual Flurry is Frea and only Celann and Durak have Extra Damage but are stuck at 1.5.

Mjoll with Relationship Dialogue Overhaul. She talks less, and gets more lines because her voiceactor has a lot of other role. But ALL of them get boring after a while. Oh yeah and the level cap.

Erandur (probably misspelled) is one of my favorite followers due to how often he talks about where you are. He has so much more to say than most of the no dlc followers, aside from Cicero.
It's always worth mentioning Lydia since for new players who don't know how to get specific good followers the game basically hands this one to them and she does the job well.
Keeping Lydia alive isnt easy for casual or new players. When I started to play Skyrim it was a nightmare to me constantly reloading because Lydia and other followers died so often. I think thats also the main reason why Lydia has become a meme or many calling her the worst companion.
Lydia is easily one of the best start-mid companions. And shell last well into endgame if you equip her well. New players should learn this early to make most of their followers.
Not listing Lydia? Who doesn't like her sass? Sassiest follower out there without mods installed. Appearance means little in picking a follower for me because there are a million mods out there to change the appearance of any follower out there. Though even vanilla Lydia isn't hard on the eyes if you don't mind the tomgirl look on a girl. Issues about followers such as essential and such are easy to mod or change with console commands. Personally, I have always had a soft spot for the girl because she was my first follower in-game and honestly her sass with the Dragonborn is a breath of fresh air compared to so many other people in the game that just kiss the Dragonborn's ass. You want to have Lydia carry a mountain around Skyrim she will let you hear about it. I even like her watching over me while I sleep in a way. Because she is your housecarl and you are her thane. She is sworn to carry your burden and watch over you. She will do so to the best of her abilities even watching you as you sleep because that is the time when an assassin would strike the Dragonborn. While they are the most helpless and unable to defend themselves effectively.
Am I the only one here, who finds Cicero just incredibly annoying? I agree he has some interesting backstory... but for me, the best thing about him was to have an option to kill him.
I CANNOT believe you didn’t mention Ralis Sedarys on your list. He is not very well known, but he’s a super powerful dual wielding warrior. He is so powerful that he has player-level strength in the end game. There have been videos of him soloing the ebony warrior. Not only that, but he’s this funny witty dunmer that makes for a fun companion on your trips.
Ralis Sedarys has more perks than any follower in the game, both meele and destruction. The only follower with Dual Flurry. He also has Impact, but he only casts spells if you give him Azdahls ring of arcana.
@@randomfactsthatdontmatter3466 everybody has loads of health on legendary remember NPC's take barely any damage on that difficulty only the player takes more damage. giants club has hella damage in itself but Farkas's best skills are civilian skills where as vilkas has Two hand, block and heavy armor. a better 2hander is also erik the slayer in rorikstead.
@@ralissedarysv2497 One playthrough I played a rich merchant with little combat skills. Went into business with Ralis and pretty much had my housecarls clean out the draugr. Then i procceeded to use Ralis as much as the game would allow. Its great fun just watching followers mop up enemies while you loot. Ugh, damn cobwebs on my fingers!
I never use followers, they always get in my way, if I use a bow they will just charge in front of me and get hit by my arrow and get angry. If I sneak attack an enemy from far away, followers instantly seek out that enemy in combat negating stealth. No follower is best follower.
I feel you so much. Never liked followers. Moreover, last time I did a stealth build run. And oh boy, Serana drove me crazy because there’s no way to get rid of her. A room full of enemies? Would’ve nailed it if that bs zero damage on legendary follower didn’t interfere
Yeah! I prefer Frea to Serana. No level caps, essential, dual-wielding, suited with Deathbrand Armor and weapons. I usually brought both Serana and Frea along. Sadly they're all unable to marry. =))
* Primary Skills: One-handed, Alteration, Light Armor, Restoration •She is one of the few characters that automatically dual wields, the other being Rayya. Even if her war axes are taken away, she will replace them with any other weapons without the need to give her a Forsworn weapon or pickaxe as is the case with most other followers. • Frea is a very strong follower thanks to her dual wield perks and no level cap. -uesp
Disgusted that nobody mentioned M'joll! lol She's immortal, has a great back story and sense of purpose, a strong moral compass and LOTS of dialogue (maybe a bit TOO much). Not to mention her mettle in combat and how she "loves a good fight"
The problem with cicero is that most of my characters cant get him since i tend to roleplay good/neutral characters, and they dont join the dark botherhood...
When I went into a quest I probably wasn't ready for, I lost Lydia and I didn't know what I was going to do. She was the only follower I'd known. Then I met Marcurio. When he one-shot blasted an enemy I was about to attack myself, the only thought that ran through my mind besides "Wow" was, "I must marry this man."
I really like Erik the Slayer he s very complex and he has a lot of text lines about the enviorment "They build this fort so a small force could control all this area" or about factions" These forsworn are strange , they want to take control over the reach but they act like savages".
As someone who is doing his first ever play through I was so surprised you can't marry Serana. The way you can interact with her it's almost as if she was made to be married. You can actually see her gradually starting to trust and like you more and stuff..
It's totally the Bethesda fault for this. Me i always wanted to marry Farkas but i had to go on mods , also when i wanted to marry the father of Serenas, and also when i wanted to Marry the Dremora Daerdra Lord :-)
Honestly I generally prefer the followers you cant just wall up to and hire or befriend. Like Cicero or Mjoll the Lioness, where you have to do a quest or something. I think having a backstory not only for the follower, but also for your bond with the follower is great.
No Joke! I initiative thought of Teldryn, when i clicked your Video. Normally i play without companions. I was so amazed by the morrowind-like - dlc, bc i love es 3 that much. And Than thought in the bar in solstheim... "yeah why not" And i really got to liked him so much because of his dark Humor. And his backstory relating to the vadenfell. I was very suprised that He made such a good companion in gameplay. My style is very sneaky and much relying on daggers, bows or short swords. He adapted to my style of play so well. That i decided to Keep him. Good boy! 😁
Cicero is the best follower, PERIOD. Through the dancing, singing, jokes, snide comments, his love for CHEESE and SWEET ROLLS, along with a sad backstory, and just being a freaking pshyco, he is definitely my favourite follower, if not my favourite character!
Don't really need a mod to have Cicero and Sarena just never take her to her dad. You could have Barbas too and just never finish his quest, he just anoys me by shoving me.

I know there are a lot of Straight Male players of The Elder Scrolls series but I wish there were more attractive male followers. I'm Gay myself and despite my liking of Teldryn Sero and Farkas I don't find them that attractive.
I argue that Vilkas is really damn cute. Brynjolf has that rogue charm and that accent of his. Jarl Sidgir of Falkreath is kinda handsome, despite being a spoiled f**king brat. Nazir, cuz that homicidal man is just adorable with his puns. Meh, that's all I can think of right now.
Top 3?, well i don't care about followers talking to me as they repeat the same hot garbage constantly, so i don't count that. I care about power, so i'll make a top 3, well 4 cause 2 are tied for spot 3. -3.1: Durak, Dawnguard. Archer, no level cap, great perk setup plus the rare extra damage 1.5 perk, meaning he does a ton of damage. -3.2: Celann, Dawnguard. The melee variant of Durak, no level cap, also extra damage 1.5, also does a ton of damage -2: Frea. Dual wield perks, no level cap, good perk setup. Deals slightly less damage than the previous ones, but has more health and is essential. A solid choice. -1: Ralis Sedarys, dual wield perks, lvl 60 max (at that level he has all the good stuff he needs), excelent perk setup and the only one with extra damage 2.0, meaning his damage is through the roof, seriously, that dude is so overpowered he might be the embodiment of Sithis itself. Joke of the universe award: Serana: Yes i know, how dare i insult everyones favorite waifu for being trash. Well she is, let me make a list: -Constantly whines -Poor damage perks -Constantly gets stuck in attack or hostile animations and you need to unstuck her -Doesn't wanna stand still when you need her to stand still in a precise location -Refuses to leave when certain quests are activated and you're literally stuck with her for the time being -She constantly uses area spells at higher levels which target friendlies and they all target her -She constantly uses that trash vampiric drain which literally does no damage -Her pathing is perhaps the worst, for some reason when she's behind she will zig zag all over the place like she's drunk on skooma.
I liked your video!! I am more of a solo player and generally dont use followers unless they are essential like Serana because i spend too much time trying to keep them alive instead of fighting foes in dungeons, i feel sad when they die, but i do hang around with Durnehviir, good dragon spawns his army and gets the job done :) You should do a video about the top animal companions (dragons like Durnehviir, Odahviing, the talking dog Barbas, the huskies from Dawnguard, Shadowmere, Arvak, etc.) just a suggestion
@Feras Reverie Yes! If you talk to him after getting Auriel's bow then there should be an option for asking him to follow you. I don't remember if you have to ask him a bunch of things first, but it should be there.
I think one of the best parts of Cicero and Serana is, if you have Cicero as a follower, and then go to Serana for her questline, you can get _both_ of them to follow you at the same time

Serana is my follower since I played the dawnguard dlc with a low level(level 26 maybe?) I love how you can communicate with her, get to know her, feel how her life was before you found her. She even cares for the Dragonborn. Of course, she's pretty and I get overwhelmed so many times by her beauty when i play Skyrim but...her character.. her interesting life and so many other facts...that's why I love her💙
Brelyna Maryon is my personal favorite. Random hunting bow aside, her Destruction and Conjuration spells make her a pretty decent ally in most fights, and I like that she's of House Telvanni. A Dark Elf studying magic in a province that's incredibly unwelcoming to her kind... Talk about having zero fucks to give. Also, best girl. Adventuring across Skyrim as a Nord Dragonborn, accompanied by qt Dunmer wife was one of my favorite playthroughs.

@IRONHILLdwarf * I don't understand what you mean by "As in real life" but I was just referring towards the ES lore because for example, Khajiit and Argonians generally don't like each other for much pettier reasons, that most people don't know a lot about. So the idea of an Argonian and Dark Elf in a relationship despite the brutal injustice and history of their people, which strikes me a much more serious reason, it just seemed funny, yet I like the juxtaposition of it, finding love in strange places lol. Hey, if your Argonian character doesn't care about that stuff then cool.
Jzargo will come back in ES6 as the greatest mage ever to exist, also a minor achievement he shall have is achieving CHIM as well as Anti-CHIM, mark my words.
The fact Ralis Sedarys isn't on this list when his melee damage is literally DOUBLE every follower on the above is mind boggling :P. He has a fairly unique perk(completely unique to followers) that multiplies his damage X2 in melee. His dual wielding and his power attacks 1 hit kill Draugr Deathlords on legendary settings at level 81, he is also one of the few followers that actually has perks and a very large number aswell. Equipped with the correct gear later on followers will not die regardless unless by your hand, and companions insight pretty much prevents that as a possibility. I would have had the reiklings on here too considering they actually run in and use the one weapon they give you instead of shooting from a distance with a bow when you want them to run into combat/ vice versa, although I suppose they are considered a pet by the game mechanics. I have had Serana and Ralis go against each other in battle using fury and the best equipment I can provide each one, and despite the fact Serana can't die, she spends 95% of the time on her knees, while Ralis doesn't drop to even half health, Cicero doesn't even come close.

Archers are best followers in vanilla or even modded skyrim because they shoot endless arrows out of 1 arrow you give them. They kill then you loot the arrows and the lootz :P

When you're weapon deals about 1k+ damage, your double enchanted rings gives you 300+hp and 70% 2 handed weapon damage allowing you to reach the dream damage; at that point magics is useless by a margin to huge for it to climb.
My favourite is Teldryn Sero. He is amazing in combat and i’ve noticed (with me at least) that if a single enemy attacking you in the midst of battle, he’ll come to your aid even if he’s already busy with another. I legit feel protected with him around.

He has a high level max, too. His snarky attitude is really fun and his dialogue points to him being over 200 years old and maybe kinda possibly the Nerevarine. It’s just as likely that he isn’t, but he very well could be.

@@jamesbudd3096 You know, I was thinking about whether I liked fallout 4's or Skyrim's followers. I like the fact that in Fallout 4 followers were expanded upon, however because there were so few I realized I liked Skyrim's follower system better.
Another thing is it felt more real to me that you have multiple Mercenaries and "low" tier followers. Which in turn makes the very good ones stand out. Last but not least the diversity of the followers was something I really enjoyed as well in Skyrim, so many different races and classes that a Breton warrior is not the same as an Argonian one.

@@Jinx1996-9 Well, everybody can fight if you give them good gear. I made Golldir an absolute beast by giving him legendary Stalhrim armor and and dragon bone weapons which are all enchanted to multiplay damage and give him magic resistance.
He's now guarding my family at my house as a steward, together with the huscarl :p

Serana is the only follower that holds any weight mainly because she's the only one that actually has an arc with the player: both start as complete strangers, then she reluctantly trusts you next thing you know she considers you a friend and by the end she even has feelings for the player but she's afraid of marriage due her vampire ritual. She feels like an actual character all other followers you literaly do a single quest for them and suddenly they consider you their best friend.
To be fair Cicero kinda has an arc too, specially if you find him before joining the brotherhood.

I do agree with your list. Followers who can dual-wield and doesn't use hunting bow are the best imo. You might add Ralis Sedarys in the list. He's literally a Dunmer Briarheart. Give him some decent equipment and he can solo Karstaag.
That is because Ralis Sedarys is the strongest follower in the game in terms of damage output.

Erandur (probably misspelled) is one of my favorite followers due to how often he talks about where you are. He has so much more to say than most of the no dlc followers, aside from Cicero.
I find Cicero unbearably annoying, so Serana definitely beats him for me.

It's always worth mentioning Lydia since for new players who don't know how to get specific good followers the game basically hands this one to them and she does the job well.
Keeping Lydia alive isnt easy for casual or new players. When I started to play Skyrim it was a nightmare to me constantly reloading because Lydia and other followers died so often. I think thats also the main reason why Lydia has become a meme or many calling her the worst companion.
Lydia is easily one of the best start-mid companions. And shell last well into endgame if you equip her well. New players should learn this early to make most of their followers.
Not listing Lydia? Who doesn't like her sass? Sassiest follower out there without mods installed. Appearance means little in picking a follower for me because there are a million mods out there to change the appearance of any follower out there. Though even vanilla Lydia isn't hard on the eyes if you don't mind the tomgirl look on a girl. Issues about followers such as essential and such are easy to mod or change with console commands. Personally, I have always had a soft spot for the girl because she was my first follower in-game and honestly her sass with the Dragonborn is a breath of fresh air compared to so many other people in the game that just kiss the Dragonborn's ass. You want to have Lydia carry a mountain around Skyrim she will let you hear about it. I even like her watching over me while I sleep in a way. Because she is your housecarl and you are her thane. She is sworn to carry your burden and watch over you. She will do so to the best of her abilities even watching you as you sleep because that is the time when an assassin would strike the Dragonborn. While they are the most helpless and unable to defend themselves effectively.

I CANNOT believe you didn’t mention Ralis Sedarys on your list. He is not very well known, but he’s a super powerful dual wielding warrior. He is so powerful that he has player-level strength in the end game. There have been videos of him soloing the ebony warrior. Not only that, but he’s this funny witty dunmer that makes for a fun companion on your trips.

Ralis Sedarys has more perks than any follower in the game, both meele and destruction. The only follower with Dual Flurry. He also has Impact, but he only casts spells if you give him Azdahls ring of arcana.
Farkas is really op if you give the giants club. He has taken down legendary dragons by himself

Then i procceeded to use Ralis as much as the game would allow. Its great fun just watching followers mop up enemies while you loot. Ugh, damn cobwebs on my fingers!
I never use followers, they always get in my way, if I use a bow they will just charge in front of me and get hit by my arrow and get angry. If I sneak attack an enemy from far away, followers instantly seek out that enemy in combat negating stealth.

When I went into a quest I probably wasn't ready for, I lost Lydia and I didn't know what I was going to do. She was the only follower I'd known. Then I met Marcurio. When he one-shot blasted an enemy I was about to attack myself, the only thought that ran through my mind besides "Wow" was, "I must marry this man."
Faendal was incredibly easy to get, and I had him as a follower for basically my whole time playing the game

As someone who is doing his first ever play through I was so surprised you can't marry Serana. The way you can interact with her it's almost as if she was made to be married. You can actually see her gradually starting to trust and like you more and stuff..

Honestly I generally prefer the followers you cant just wall up to and hire or befriend. Like Cicero or Mjoll the Lioness, where you have to do a quest or something. I think having a backstory not only for the follower, but also for your bond with the follower is great.

Top 3?, well i don't care about followers talking to me as they repeat the same hot garbage constantly, so i don't count that. I care about power, so i'll make a top 3, well 4 cause 2 are tied for spot 3.
-3.1: Durak, Dawnguard. Archer, no level cap, great perk setup plus the rare extra damage 1.5 perk, meaning he does a ton of damage.
-3.2: Celann, Dawnguard. The melee variant of Durak, no level cap, also extra damage 1.5, also does a ton of damage
-2: Frea. Dual wield perks, no level cap, good perk setup. Deals slightly less damage than the previous ones, but has more health and is essential. A solid choice.
-1: Ralis Sedarys, dual wield perks, lvl 60 max (at that level he has all the good stuff he needs), excelent perk setup and the only one with extra damage 2.0, meaning his damage is through the roof, seriously, that dude is so overpowered he might be the embodiment of Sithis itself.

-Constantly gets stuck in attack or hostile animations and you need to unstuck her
-Doesn't wanna stand still when you need her to stand still in a precise location
-Refuses to leave when certain quests are activated and you're literally stuck with her for the time being
-She constantly uses area spells at higher levels which target friendlies and they all target her
-She constantly uses that trash vampiric drain which literally does no damage
-Her pathing is perhaps the worst, for some reason when she's behind she will zig zag all over the place like she's drunk on skooma.

I liked your video!! I am more of a solo player and generally dont use followers unless they are essential like Serana because i spend too much time trying to keep them alive instead of fighting foes in dungeons, i feel sad when they die, but i do hang around with Durnehviir, good dragon spawns his army and gets the job done :)
You should do a video about the top animal companions (dragons like Durnehviir, Odahviing, the talking dog Barbas, the huskies from Dawnguard, Shadowmere, Arvak, etc.) just a suggestion
I personally prefer Knight- Paladin Gelebor. He doesn't really comment on things you do, but he's just the sweetest to have around.
@Feras Reverie Yes! If you talk to him after getting Auriel's bow then there should be an option for asking him to follow you. I don't remember if you have to ask him a bunch of things first, but it should be there.

I think one of the best parts of Cicero and Serana is, if you have Cicero as a follower, and then go to Serana for her questline, you can get _both_ of them to follow you at the same time
My follower of choice is Frea. No level cap plus great magic warrior = top tier
Also if you get a mod where you can alter if they are essential any follower can be marked as unkillable

Serana is my follower since I played the dawnguard dlc with a low level(level 26 maybe?) I love how you can communicate with her, get to know her, feel how her life was before you found her. She even cares for the Dragonborn. Of course, she's pretty and I get overwhelmed so many times by her beauty when i play Skyrim but...her character.. her interesting life and so many other facts...that's why I love her💙
Brelyna Maryon is my personal favorite. Random hunting bow aside, her Destruction and Conjuration spells make her a pretty decent ally in most fights, and I like that she's of House Telvanni. A Dark Elf studying magic in a province that's incredibly unwelcoming to her kind... Talk about having zero fucks to give.
Also, best girl. Adventuring across Skyrim as a Nord Dragonborn, accompanied by qt Dunmer wife was one of my favorite playthroughs.

@IRONHILLdwarf * I don't understand what you mean by "As in real life" but I was just referring towards the ES lore because for example, Khajiit and Argonians generally don't like each other for much pettier reasons, that most people don't know a lot about. So the idea of an Argonian and Dark Elf in a relationship despite the brutal injustice and history of their people, which strikes me a much more serious reason, it just seemed funny, yet I like the juxtaposition of it, finding love in strange places lol. Hey, if your Argonian character doesn't care about that stuff then cool.

The best follower is no follower, the no follower doesn't get in your way.
The fact Ralis Sedarys isn't on this list when his melee damage is literally DOUBLE every follower on the above is mind boggling :P.
He has a fairly unique perk(completely unique to followers) that multiplies his damage X2 in melee. His dual wielding and his power attacks 1 hit kill Draugr Deathlords on legendary settings at level 81, he is also one of the few followers that actually has perks and a very large number aswell. Equipped with the correct gear later on followers will not die regardless unless by your hand, and companions insight pretty much prevents that as a possibility. I would have had the reiklings on here too considering they actually run in and use the one weapon they give you instead of shooting from a distance with a bow when you want them to run into combat/ vice versa, although I suppose they are considered a pet by the game mechanics.
I have had Serana and Ralis go against each other in battle using fury and the best equipment I can provide each one, and despite the fact Serana can't die, she spends 95% of the time on her knees, while Ralis doesn't drop to even half health, Cicero doesn't even come close.
