    I could listen to Robert Lustig all day, I can't believe an hour and a half went by so fast. I feed off of his intensity, consume his every word, and metabolize every morsel I can possibly retain.

      Dr. Sten Ekberg has a youtube channel that is VERY informative about how our bodies work physiologically with food…..he is so knowledgeable and interesting

    I have watched this one, and nearly all of the vids with Dr Lustig. Man, and he never disappoints. The passion, the commitment, the knowledge. Grateful to have what I learn from him to help guide my practice and coach others. I first found Dr. L back in 2016. Prior to, I would treat myself to Rocky Road ice cream 1-2x’s per week, until one Friday night- I had an epiphany. I had been watching TV, eating the pint of ice cream, and then suddenly realized that I was more than half way thru the carton, and yet I was still hungry and didn’t even realize how much I had eaten. I say I was still hungry because I was ready to have more. I don’t know what got into me, but that night I said to myself- something’s not right here; there’s no way I can almost be done and yet, I can still eat more, still want more. That night, I then began researching various sources of information on sugar. Dr. L was one that I found who also opened my eyes to fructose, and more and more. Till this day, I’ve never bought another pint of hagan daz’s rocky road. I did not like the idea of a company producing something that could get me addicted and held no value. To the food industry, I say- I’m not your b*tch. Doing my best to educate others, in hopes that they too will come to make healthier decisions, most of the time ❤

      If you try a Carnivore diet , you'll get the benefits of nutrient dense food that will give you a boost in energy and wellness. (As well as denying ultra processed food an easy target).

      @@kenadams5504I think any diet that is without processed food is an option. I however, am not interested in eating only meat. I love the nutrients that I get from a variety of foods. And, I am open to the idea but not convinced that the carnivore diet is one of longevity. It could very well be, but I’m not convinced. There might be maybe a handful of those who eat the carny diet that have lived beyond 90’s etc, but the blue zones have multiple, whole communities who eat a plant based diet. 99% of centenarians eat a plant-based diet (not vegan, however). That is the evidence ❤

    An obvious Nobel prize nomination… I’ve been following Dr Lustig for 2 years and I follow his advice and have lowered All Of my lipids and my AST from 29 to 19. He is the only person that can clearly explain this complicated subject. Probably because he is the only dr that really understands it!?!! “If your triglycerides are high then your LDL is the dangerous small type”.

      My trigs are a 52 , but my Doc adviced a statin . Its unreal that our Doctors aren't taught what we need them to know. My cac score is zero .

    My social network collapsed during pandemic.Alcohol consumption dropped to near 0.Lost 25 lbs and bp dropped 20 points.I don't expect you to believe it. I didn't.After watching this I am now better equipped to avoid sugar and increase fiber intake.Thanx Rob!

    I'm 66 years old and was inspired to change my processed food eating to clean, whole food eating 4 month ago. Not by illness but by a desire to remain healthy. I was educated partly by Rob's youtube lectures and a number of others. I've lost 25 lbs and still losing. It is true the food is a little more but it must be a personal choice. However my 30 year old daughter recently said I'm ruining her Laffi Taffi candy eating habit because she has started reading labels. I would love to adopt an inner city family with sons old enough to be part of Baltimores violence culture and see if food, good food could make a difference. Thank you Rob for the education.

      I’m sure food would make a difference ! I heard of a couple studies in some of these podcasts where they changed the diet of people in prison and violence went down some high percentage. I wish I could remember w one it was. I imagine it was a Dr. mark hyman w a neurologist conversation 🤔?

    I love this video. My husband died after a valiant struggle w a rare incurable neuromuscular disease called, Friedrich’s Ataxia. He had a low gene repeat. He was involved w every org. Looking for a cure. They’ve been vacillating about adding “Mitochondrial” disease to the recipe. And currently they claim to be embarking on a treatment that will delay progression. GOOD.
    Anyway, my husband, who was VERY smart taught me to always think outside the box. THE DOCTOR IS NOT ALWAYS RIGHT!! You HAVE to be your own advocate.

    I received my Metabolical book last week and am eating it up. I go to sleep with an airpod in my ear every night listening to video info. This is life altering, life giving, life saving information.     Rob, thank you for your service. I have followed you for years, shared your teaching with my friends and family and applied your whole food philosophy toward raising my precious grandchildren. And, just last night, I calculated my husbands lipid panel numbers, using your guidance, to show him that he has an option to the statins that his doctor prescribed. Both my husband and I seem to be “hyper-responders” as Dave Feldman describes, and all of our doctors want to put us on statins. We have resisted so far given that our quick and dirty “bad cholesterol” (triglycerides/Hdl) ratio is always below 1.5, but the repeated statin advice does wear us down.

      Same here. I’m 72, 5’8” and a fit 160 lbs. I weighed 164 when I graduated high school. When I was 67 I weighed 220 lbs and felt awful. I hiked and exercised but nothing worked. I discovered keto and lost 40 lbs in 6 months. A year later I was under 165 and felt better than I had in 20 years. Here I am at 72 and stronger and fitter than I was at 62.
      Keto for life.

    I’ve been battling many health problems. I’ve been praying for an answer. Both of you have so enlightened me. I’m stuck in addiction to sugar in any form. I know in my brain and my heart you are speaking truth. I’m still stuck in my addiction. Thank you for all your studies and courage to speak out. You’ve given me hope. I’m so upset with medicine and the lies and neglect of the patients!

      I’m no doctor, and I suggest you read about it, my friend told me about chromium as a supplement to help stop sugar cravings. Chromium or something I’m taking or changed in my diet helped.
      I rarely crave the sugar now.

      Hi Dianne: I have asugar problem myself . I have reached the conclusion that I can't do sugar " in moderation". It truly is an addiction because once I start I always want more. My understanding is that if u eat food that doesn't radically raise your blood sugar the cravings abate( protein with nonstarchy veggies and small amount of good fats. Good luck

    When I talk to family and friends about the metabolic link to sugar and ultra processed food, they essentially tell me they’re not willing to give up their sugary treats- so it then becomes about behavior, not exposure.

    1 year on now from cutting out 90% of my carbs and all vegetable/seed oils.
    I was 97kg now 80kg and feel great.

    thank you, dr. lustig, for helping me. my mom sent me a link to your ". . . bitter truth" lecture about three years ago. after watching it, and changing my sugar intake habit, my heartburn frequency reduced from 5 days a week to little more than a couple days per month. no more antacids for me. this leads me to think that there may be far more than obvious consequences to a steady diet of crap (term used loosely) and i am pleased that my mom shared this with me. later i learned that such intake (antacid) is not good for the microbiome anyway. thank you again for your educational help. i appreciate it, sir. eric

    I wish that I had a Dr. like you when I was young Dr. Lustig . I had Grave's and had to have a thyroidectomy when I was 17 years old. After it my pediatrician then would not check my thyroid levels, even though I gained about a hundred pounds in a year. When he was fired because of his alcoholism, I finally got a Dr. who tested me, and doubled my thyroid medication. The sad thing is that I have always been prescribed synthetic thyroid meds, & can't get a Dr. who cares enough to help me to recover metabolically. I was diabetic for years, on insulin (Lantus and Humolog), along with Metformin and Glyburide. I've lost a lot of wt. and eat a keto diet. I am no longer diabetic. My A1C was 5.6 six months ago. The problem I have now, is that it is extremely hard to lose weight since menopause, & I need to lose more weight. I have seen some of your videos, and I'm ordering Metabolical. Thank you for educating people about metabolic health.

    I love these two together, thanks Casey. I always come away learning so much more about health and nutrition. I have fibromyalgia with every day pain and awful fatigued, when I eat sugar my pain kicks in a lot worse. I’ve finally realised I’m addicted to sugar and carbs.
    I’m buying Rob’s latest book, I can’t wait to read it.

    I think that the big problem comes from the lack of knowledge from medical students about food and nutrition.

    The first step in sugar addiction is realising or admitting the problem . People dont even realise the affects of soft drinks on the liver /triglycerides.

    Lay person here. Every discussion I listen to by Levels people or Dr. Lustig leaves me feeling blown away (in the best sense). Most docs I have encountered give up on emphasizing lifestyle changes saying almost Noone follows the advice. Another case of BS GASLIGHTING. Patients need to take responsibility to learn and think, but so do doctors.

    It was a cultural shock for me to see the overflow of sugar in the US food market when I first moved to the country. I had never seen people refilling their large cups with soda faucets in fast food restaurants in my country till then. In my culture we consume sugar but as a treat, only on special occasions. Our soda intake is often limited to 150 to 250ml soda bottles. Buying a 2L soda bottle is a sin. A. D we dont sip sugar syrups all day long. This is clearly a food discipline (I use the word discipline purposefully) forced down upon the Americans by the processed food industry. We NEED regulation.

    I have watched this doc countless times on podcasts, interviews, and lectures. he is extremely interesting when he sticks to matters within his expertise and already knew that he is from San Francisco which is a red flag for me. And sure as night follows day, here he confirms his political bias against President Trump who I am a great admirer of. This interview is 2 years old so perhaps in the interim I should give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he has acknowledged the facts that everything we were told by the corrupt scientific community turned out to be false.

    People from all over the world listen to podcasts. It’s interesting listening to the American mindset. It’s hard to believe that many citizens of the “greatest country in the world” can’t afford real food because of politics and the food industry? On the other hand, many people all over the world don’t question what they are putting in their mouths.

    Other than taxation, would it be better to require exposure to information about how processed sugars assist in causing disease every time someone wants to buy processed sugar products? Seems to be a better place for the money to go, informing the people. And require the companies who produce the products to pay for providing this information. That would drive up the cost of the products and would assist in inhibiting people purchasing. What do you think? Any other ideas?

      These foods should, including juice smoothies and energy drinks, should come with a health warning like the Surgeon General did to cigarettes. If people know what they're ingesting the demand will go down and that is the key imo.

    I would not dismiss obesity as a health risk factor. Yes, some obese people can be ‘metabolically healthy’, while some normal weight people do have metabolic syndromes. However, obesity is associated with increased risk of many diseases (e.g. cancer risk). An analogy is, some smokers do not develop lung cancer and live long lives (even centenarians), while some non-smokers got lung cancer. However, it does not alter the fact that smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer.

      You misunderstood .Rob agrees that obesity is a Marker for ill health/metabolic ill health.He dismissed the idea that you can't get metabolic ill health, unless you are obese. (40% of meatabolic ill health is with ppl who are not obese).

    Everyone should read his recent book Metabolical. And even reading this book should be the assignment for medical students and nursing students!
    Since my son was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at age 11, I have researched a lot about diet to fix it and I have consulted his GI doctor and nurses for his diet, and they said it has nothing to do with diet. And they said Medication will treat his symptoms instead. I was furious to know how many doctors and health care professionals are ignorant and careless in their areas and human body.
    We started to have SCD diet first and added some grain in a few months but never gluten and sugar, and now we all are so healthy with healthier diet. Of course my son is doing great but all other family members got benefit from healthy diet.
    Please everyone stay away from sugar, gluten and dairy product( if it is not fermented enough to rid of lactose)!

      I believe the Carnivore diet has great results for Auto-immune Related Conditions .I'm sorry your GI doctors said that diet doesn't help ...its truely awful that people are being given such information .Thank God for The Internet and the Good Information we can obtain from it.

      Or subsidize healthy foods only. I we subsidized small regenerative food producers then healthy whole foods wouldn't only be accessible to those who make 6 figures. The cheapest food, even whole food is toxic.

    67years morning glucose 130s. During the course of day rises to the 150s. Around 5:00pm drops down100-110.Started checking Dem 3 2021 presence date feb 10 2022 over three months & zero change. I am on full carnivore diet OMAD calories 1000-1250 a day & lost twenty pounds

    I'm one of the "skinny ones"... surrounded by millions who struggle to lose weight! This can be a very lonely place, with few resources available to help us "maintain or gain" weight (w/o further compromise to our blood sugars). Following the 25# weight loss that came with Intermittent Fasting, I'm really struggling now, with little to no help. This isn't easy, regardlessa of which side of the equation we sit!

      Dont forget that Rob's point is about the metabolic condition affecting non-obese ppl due to Added Sugar in their diet .They can reduce /eliminate Added Sugar to improve their metabolic health and your subcutaneous fat deficit is not necessarilly an issue. If you have a blood test for "fasting insulin " , then you can find out if you have good metabolic health...this is very important and you should consider this before the importance of overall weight.Having said that , remember that your physiology needs fuel to function , and it is best to provide calories to it.Whole food like vegetables, low sugar fruits , or chicken /fish are a healthy way to provide that fuel.

    Totally on board with metabolic health. It supports my beliefs regarding "terrain vs germ theory" which is why I'm surprised on the views expressed here regarding covid. Love to know why they believe viruses exist.

    Great discussion! I appreciate the issue of soda taxes to reduce consumption, while seeing the insane argument about being unfair to poor.
    I learned my first lesson in my early 20s, going to water at restaurants just to reduce my food bill eating out with friends, and I didn't miss it at all. BUT then I remember once being offered a soda at a new years eve party and accepted, and drank and thought "OH, this is way too sweet!" and then 15 seconds later I thought "I want more!" and this confused me, how those two truths existed at the same time. I also stopped drinking any juice (except grape juice for a while, and watering it way down when I did, so more as flavoring), but mostly I just drink water, or tea or straight coffee, and I feel sure it helps me.
    Now I know even bananas have too much sugar alone, so I'll try to have something like oatmeal at the same time with more fiber. If I depend only on "feelings", I'd say eating a banana alone doesn't cause problems, and I don't experience a craving response like straight sugar, or crash, but I accept the effect is more subtle.

      If I eat processed cereal for breakfast, usually I'll pick cheerios or generic equivalent, minimal sugar added. Recently I got some food at a church distribution, and they gave us "Multigrain cheerios" and it "sounds" healthy, but really just means they added cheap corn meal to it AND sugar, so like 25% of the calories are sugar, and that's still low compared to some "sugar" cereals. And a local discount food store, you can get a box of cereal for $1, but 100% of it is the worst of the worst high sugar cereal. (At least they also do sell rolled oats, if you're willing to cook.)

      You do not have to start your day loading up on carbs - an egg and a couple slices of bacon is better for you cause it doesn't spike your insulin

      @@ivobiancucci4528 I'm not a vegan or anything, but don't eat meat every day.
      I am active, running, biking for commuting, so complex carbs are good, just need to make sure it also has fiber too, to slow digestion. I've heard nothing bad about oatmeal and some walnuts on top, no need for any sugar at all, unless I add some fruit.

      This is why I think a continuous blood glucose monitors should be available to everybody. For some, eating a banana is not big deal, like a moderate amount of oatmeal but for many of us those even those "healthy" whole foods increases insulin insensitivity. It's not the only tool of course but it's enlightening to see what happens when eat those foods.

    if someone didn't have a lot of money, here's a few pointers, because my body was always sensitive to chemicals and etc. that gave me headaches and otherwise. The worst for chemicals and GMO was always the obvious first off: aspartame and MSG, but after that it was: GMO chicken, potatoes and coffee, and high fructose corn syrup particularly in ketchup. If you don't throw out anything else, get non-GMO of those most important things. Instead of sodas I make two custom types of fruit punch for optimal bodily function: grape & orange (primarily for cognition and circulation), or pineapple & tomato (3 parts pineapple, 1 part tomato, primarily for digestion and function). The tomato and grape juices contain sulfur they help to raise glutathione and allow you to detox all the chemical mess you take in. Oranges and tomatoes have either lower or better sugars and balance the mixes. Either will have a higher than usual dose of vitamin c and are good for half a dozen other things. The second punch I often use to spike my coffee when I fast. Each is at least 10g less sugar than a can of cola. For coffee I will mix half allulose (rare sugar) and half sugar in equal parts to reduce calories as opposed to using straight sugar.

    Simply amazing, this science and Robert's bravado has changed my life in 1 week. Just wondering if we should eat corn/corn products in light of corn fed meat/BCAA and mitochondrial overload. Also will any change in the food industry reach those in nursing homes or would the government have to regulate their nutritional standards. Also does organic meat /dairy mean grass fed/finish?

      No on the last question. If the grass or hay was treated with pesticides/herbicides then not organic. If the corn and grain fed to the animal is pesticide/herbicide free then organic. Very little grain fed to animals is organic, though.

    That's what happened with my smoking. My child was educated about its health hazzard! Took decades, but I got how bad smoking is. Still a struggle for me, but my child called me on this disgusting toxic habit.

    Government is working hard, to make divisions between the haves an haves not. I work with the mediciad population, the care they receive is not desirable. The poor is their lot of people to fight their wars, the poor get ultra processed food, and then keeps hospital beds filled.therefore expirements, they also receive a one size fits all chemo no matter what they have. Thank you for this wonderful podcast.

    We need a large lobby of the American people to speak in one voice demanding changes in the medical system, the insurance system, to monitor those who go into the FDA, the USDA, and fight for appropriate regulations of food producing corporations an online ad campaign for us all to become members paying a yearly fee to begin the organization and later seeking donations. We need a range of doctors who are well recognized on the board like Lustig, Hyman, Fung and many others. A powerful lobby like a good NRA for American nutritional health. Folks need to go to towns with advertised town halls or rallies to organize this voice to participate in speaking up.

      I agree about the need, but Did you see the dozens of great doctors pleading with the USDA panel on the new official Dietary Guidelines a few years back? The doctors were GREAT. The INDUSTRY controls the members of that panel as they didn't appear to be interested in the testimony presented to them. Canada's new guidelines are better. America is driven by the dollar and we have the best government corporate money can buy. It nods to the people, then does what the corporations want.

    I think what can help is to let people know what they can eat and what not because regular people are never going to see and understand it like you guys, as they don't have the knowledge you have. The choices at the store are overwhelming. For example, let's take a simple case: the majority of people who consume animal protein, how should they cook it? What oil should they use if it's not good to use olive or vegetable oil for Cooking? I think little things like that will help start shifting the ball because even if the food industry sells us something, if people don't buy it, they have to do something to make us buy it; otherwise, they will go broke. Right now, they have it easy because we are ignorant about a lot of stuff

    I met my hubby before 19 , He smoked stuff how i learned about it , we were married for 35+ yrs He was 63 at death , i smoked more since, marriage beat up my heart after childhood did , my kid smoke the same , how is it a bad thing? it can't be bad , yeah ! 💝

    It has to come from the ground up: free nutritious, fresh and healthy food in all public schools no hot dogs pizza et al. Yes there’s plenty of money for it.
