    I've been listening to Dr. L's stuff since The Bitter Truth talk first hit YT. As an EE, I have enough education to follow the scientific parts, but only to a certain depth.
    We are so fortunate to have him writing and talking about this at every level. The breadth and depth of his work is incredible.
    I've been learning about plastics and other ingredients of the toxic soup in which we live for years. I love how Dr L has been addressing these issues as well.
    I can't even count the number of times I've pointed people to his work. Unfortunately, there are so many Drs spouting and/or touting nonsense on all forms of media that many people are simply overwhelmed.

      @@solomonsalsberg5961 The same can be said for intelligence. A few brilliant men introduced a unique weapon to FDR, in an effort to putting an end to war in the Pacific theater of WWII. Their intelligence so overshadowed their common sense that many years later our world lives in fear of nuclear proliferation by foreign adversaries with a lack of any compassion for human life, let alone the life of every living organism on Earth. One can be so intelligent that they are common sense ignorant.

    A deadly enemy that is invisible and makes not a sound. How do you protect yourself against something like that? There are some chemicals we can reduce our exposure to, but it takes learning about them and where they are found. Other chemicals we simply cannot escape from. They are in the very air we breath.

    I worked for the assistant administrator of the EPA for policy, planning, and implementation during the Reagan administration. He is responsible for getting lead out of gasoline. By doing that, he helped preserve the futures of millions of kids that were showing up with brain problems, including retardation and violent behavior as young adults....
    Not sure at what point the EPA went wrong, but they sure are not what they used to be.

    15 % of obesity is now attributed to environmental factors? I am and have been concerned about pollutants and chemicals for more than two decades, yet 85% of obesity is more importantly, and realistically, caused by sugar and fats of the wrong sorts!
    Is this sciences attempt to not make obese people and their parents feel guilty for unregulated eating habits that the Food Industry has pushed people into by hooking kids and adults on sugar? I definitely applaud bringing chemicals into topics that must be regulated, yet attributing obesity to these unsavory culprits seems bizarre to me.
    BTW, my mother gained 100 lbs during her pregnancy with me; I weighed 10 pounds - I was a fat baby, yet I never have been obese, not ever fat; yes, over weight. Apologies for considering your hypothesis, Dr. Lustig, unsound, as long as obesity is concerned.

    I'm delighted to hear that just about everyone is using econometric data modeling as opposed to regression analysis for interpreting raw data. Full Information Maximum Likelihood and Rational Expectations model building was pioneered in the late 1970's and early 1980's when I was a college boy studying to become a maxillofacial surgeon (glorified dentist) doing my undergrad studies. Be careful to carefully inspect the models for which variables are considered exogenous and endogenous.....it makes a big difference. Be careful to choose T statistic values that are sufficiently safe to state the significance of the models reliability. I switched to econometrics major studies which I received my BA. (USC's Dental School denied my acceptance because I didn't have a course in economics...it changed my course in life.)

    Breastfeeding is so much better for a baby than bottled milk of any kind. There is a biofeedback loop between saliva and milk ducts that then supplies proper nutrients to baby. Pumping is better than nothing, but feeding from the breast also teaches humans to respond properly to leptin and grehlin.

    Are the toxins being stored in a person's fat? If so, is the storing of more fat the body's defense mechanism against the toxins (to tie them up in the fat, rather than having to try to metabolize them)? I'm trying to understand why the body would have the reaction to store more fat - evolutionarily, that would be to store energy for later (but I have heard it said before that toxins get stored in fat). Or is it just coincidence that these chemicals happen to cause these effects? Thanks.

    • @raykinney9907
      @raykinney9907 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      There are many fat-soluble toxic substances, and some of them do get stored in fat, but many toxic substances do not tend to be in the fat. The physiologic processes toward getting fat are a beautifully performing physiology that was evolved prehistorically through vast generations, protecting us to survive during times of scarcity of food and water seasonally. However, we just almost never need that capacity currently because we just drive to the grocery store with any money we have and bingo we have little need for stored fat. We have an evolutionary disconnect.

    • @raykinney9907
      @raykinney9907 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I think that pushing lots of people to get sleep studies is a low hanging fruit toward better personal understanding of need for learning about how our bodies understand so much more about how they work, and how to repair physiologic systems than any humans understand. But, the body needs to be able to have quality sleep in order to physiologically be able to enter complex processes of repair. Sleep disturbances from any source keep such repair potential less of a reality in our health paradigm. This process is autophagy, and we could all make big strides toward supporting it by learning how to get better sleep. Sleep studies are a great tool toward that end, but then once we get that as basic low hanging fruit in better shape, deeper understanding of biochemistry and physiology can guide additional changes in how we are in the world, and dealing with toxicant minimization back toward conditions that our bodies had been evolutionarily adapted to, will be essential ongoing work to promote a better future for our children and their children.

      Sorry to say that sugar is sugar, no matter if it’s dressed up as honey, maple syrup, or indeed date syrup. Sweetness on the palate will trigger an insulin response, and therefore stimulate fat deposition. Fibre might slow down absorption a little, but once it reaches the liver there is no difference.
      Answer is to work on reducing the sweet tooth. Antioxidants from above-ground vegetables.

    • @RXP91

      @@makinandrew I agree on not indulging a sweet tooth. For me personally I don't have that problem. I have 10-15g of date syrup after a meal that contains 30-40g of fibre. The dessert I have is actually sorghum, oat groats, black lentils and quinoa mixed with coco , cherries/blackberries and wallnuts and 15g of date syrup.
      The argument against date syrup is an argument against any fruit really. I don't see that fruit consumption leads to metabolic syndrome in the meta-studies I've looked at.

    I'd be interested in hearing more abou the links between breastfeeding, OSA, and malocclusion. I have a 1 year old who eats breastmilk via the breast only (along with solids). I wonder if there's a specific minimum amount of time needed to get the best results. I'm considering weaning to end my lactational amenorrhea, but if there was data that says, for example, 18 months or 2 years is needed for good jaw development, that would certainly change my mind about weaning earlier.

    Soy protein was added to many product in food in the 60s. But soy is also a hormone producer. This also leads to many Neuro and mental and physical issues. Because it is artificially increasing hormones on a society. What do added hormones do to a person you gain weight. Children develop at very young ages. Etc. We as a society started showing ADD ADHD. All these things were added among others during the 60s. Plus the HORMONES that was allowed to be added to cattle and hog feeds during the 60S. Then you got hormone transference through the meat to us as a Nation. And through breast milk to babies. And it all started after the Olympics in the 60s. America was very embarrassed by their poor performance compared to the Russians. And Russians were taller and stronger. Across the board and physically bigger. All these things were started within weeks after those Olympics. Research that when these things occured and the dates after the Olympics. And TV showed it!! Everyone watched Olympics it was on all channels all day.

    What sugar alternative do you suggest?

    • @HereDiianas
      @HereDiianas 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      There is no need for alternatives, the answer is to eat way less sugar overall. We don't need to eat or drink a lot of sweets or sugary "food" everyday at every meals. Drink your tea with no sugar, plenty of country do it. Drink water instead of sodas or fruit juice. Eat a fruit instead of sweeten yogurts/puddings for desert... eat oat with dry fruits in the morning instead of sweeten ultra processed "cereals" There are plenty of non sweet foods to eat. Keep sweeten things outside your house but eat them on occasion if you can't eliminate it completely but don't store it in your home.

      It is a revolving door process of leadership exchange to bypass the intent of the environmental agencies to actually function as we conceive that they should toward using the full scientific method to guide our pathfinding into the future to support the grandchildren of our grandchildren (who we borrow the world from IMHO. The 'Environmental Protection Agency' is obstructed by greed in the system of corporate power not having built in mechanisms of self-control (ethics).

    I'm sorry but this was a huge waste of time. Just telling people "don't smoke" and "only drink purified water, and then only from pre-industrial age ice" isn't very helpful. You've presented us with a cortisol-inducing talk wherein we find out that everything with the exception of honey made from Himalayan, yellow-nosed bees is absolutely toxic, and our grandparents aren't to be trusted. I can accept all of that. But what I can't accept is that you've got no discussion as to how we can remove these nasty substances from our bodies or how much we can tolerate before we hit the tipping point. If things are as hopeless as you make them appear, then we've no need for your little lectures or 100 papers because there's nothing significant we can do about it.

      Don't you think he was just being very matter-of-fact and realistic as to the fact that at this current point they don't know enough about this, and then it's not getting enough attention and that it needs to be brought into the limelight so it will be one of those things that will get attention that it needs so desperately. So that means and ways to excrete these things from our body can be discerned through studies, they require great amounts of financial backing. Financial backing that I'm sure dr. Lustig can't do all on his own! I'm sure there's a large percentage of people who are very aware of how difficult it is to get these grants to start these studies! That was my take away but then of course I didn't shut myself down after I heard something a little bit displeasing and disheartening I remained open
