Thats crazy, bc Forrest Gump was a classic and he does alot of unbelievable things for someone that had a disability, and he wasn't even a real person but ive met people that thought he was real or it was based on a true story.
Movie makers have taken so many liberties with actually events that when an actual story like his presents itself they have to tone it down to make it believable. I read an article about him giving a speech and how his beliefs played apart in his life. In the audience sat an older Japanese man. The man come up after and told him how his books and testimony had led him to Christ. He then explained more saying he was also on that island as a sniper. He told him on three different times he had him in his sites and each time his gun either jamed or misfired. He went on to say that was the only time it ever happened. He was convinced that powers beyond the Japanese or American had intervened. How many of us would believe the real horrors of war if it shows up in a movie from Hollywood ?

The interview of Doss in his late years is phenomenal. "Lord, let me get one more"...."one more"...."one more". You ask me, he's a warrior all the same. No difference between his warrior spirit and that of a gun wielding soldier. They are both fighting with everything they have to achieve what they believe.
Desmond Doss is one of my favorite world war 2 hero’s to learn about and talk about, he served as combat medic during the height of WW2 in the fight against the Japanese empire. He served in multiple battles but the one the movie covers is the battle of hacksaw ridge on the island of Okinawa. That day Desmond Doss saved as estimated 75 lives, the exact number is unknown as Desmond Doss claims he only saved 50 men that day after his unit had fallen back to safety. Desmond Doss continued to save lives on his own carrying them back one by one, each time saying, “Lord, let me save one more.” By the end of it the military claimed he saved 100 men that day while he claims only 50 so estimate was put somewhere in the middle at 75, including 2 Japanese soldiers. After he was back with his unit they made another push where Desmond was injured by grenade shrapnel after attempting to kick a grenade away, (yeah that kick was historically accurate in the movie) and after receiving a sniper round to his arm, for his bravery on the frontlines he was rewarded the Medal of Honor and a Purple Heart. He trusted God and saved many lives during his service. And he’s not once had to pick up a weapon.
The balls on this man is something amazing. Not many people would have the fortitude to risk their life to save so many soldiers. As a veteran I do not want to serve with him. many I talk to share that sentiment. It comes down to trusting the man next to you to protect you with every thing they have. This man would not shot a Japanese solider to save my life. I would rather take my chances with a man who will shoot the enemy then someone will run into enemy fire to pull me out. Thats the code of the fox hole. For the guy next to you. To come home alive.

Doss is the greatest medal of honor recipient of all time! They had a tone back some of the things he did in the movie because they thought people wouldn't believe it, it was just too unbelievable.
Yet they added in all that horseshite where full bird colonels tried to have him discharged over his religion. Where his commanding officer made him miss his wedding. Where the brass was ready to court martial and imprison a field medic who volunteered. Yeah, none of that crap happened! That was all typical tripe outta Hollywood. Desmond Doss caught crap from other recruits, but was never officially reprimanded because his ethics were based on religion. He *_was_* allowed to forego weapons training. He was *_never_* forced to handle and discharge a weapon. He was even allowed a pass to attend Saturday services. He was accomodated because, as impressive as his story is, he was not the first nor even the thousandth soldier who wanted to serve without killing his fellow man. Perhaps they should have given time to the other incredible deeds he accomplished.
That's what I'd heard too - love this movie and Mel Gibson, both as an actor, director and truth teller. Not afraid to call out the Hollywood big wigs which is why they spend so much time and effort trying to discredit him. Top man.

I see what you're saying but my son died after serving and he told me his feelings, he was broken and his heart stopped. It wasn't suicide or anything like that, it was someone else, a sniper killed his Sgt and my son came home to family but he said the sniper had a family too. I was told after my son died there were 3 snipers trained in Iraq before we got there. His Sgt was standing beside him. That woman who was shot because of Trump had an easy death and you can hate me but she had an easy death and that eased me because my sons Sgt was shot the same way, in the neck, but my son was afraid he would go to jail for shooting the sniper but his brother's in arms stood up for him. I'm sure this movie is beautiful but my heart is broken. My son will be in the line to Heaven in front of me but I miss him. Don't ever wonder why I hate Trump, he is a coward. He should be in prison, actually he should have the death penalty because that's what he should have for treason. Why are all of you afraid of not giving Trump the right punishment? The last traitors, the husband and wife were put to death as they should have been. Trump should be put to death or our country will never heal.
As a veteran I sit here texting with tears running down my cheek this was a great acting moment but most importantly I serve with a man during Vietnam who died saving the life's of his enemy his moral conviction to serve is the greatest sacrifice any human can make and I remember him and honor him today

There is a documentary on Desmond Doss called "Conscientious Objector" and is a truly remarkable story from the man himself. He was truly a humble godly man. They did awesome job with his story in Hollywood.
Not only did he save countless fellow soldiers but he was also tending to enemy soldiers protecting every life he could. I’m sure somewhere overseas there is a family that is there because of his humanity. Not only a hero to our side.
The thing is, the attitude that this young man displays was indeed one that was held my many young men of his generation. Whatever the motivations of WW2, it is no exaggeration to say that the generation of men who fought it were of a far, far higher quality than those who came later.

This hit home with me. I was a medic in the Air Force from 71-80. The last years of the conflict in Vietnam were largely ignored but no less brutal. If you ask, most medics won’t talk about it but have an aching, hollow spot that nags them about those they couldn’t save.
This is a perfect example of how someone who was allowed to feel safe and secure at a very early life. Grew up to be somebody who was whole from the start without compromise. He lived his conviction and served his country.

I heard that he was extremely humble concerning his heroics and that he said he saved around 50 or so guys, whilst his comrads insisted that he saved at least 100 or even more, so for the movie, they kinda settled in the middle

@@m235i_ttype7 just because someone goes to war because it was their backup plan doesn’t make them any less of a hero as those who urged to fight for their country. If they fight for their country, no matter the reason, they are a war hero. I don’t see you going out and risking your life every day, so stop discrediting them. Sure, some may be more heroic than others, but they are still all heroes, the ones who live and the ones who die, the lot of them.
You guys are arguing about what it takes to be a hero in the United state’s military, well, your a war hero if you join, instead of taking the easier life where you just take a desk job and then go home and do whatever you want everyday, those brave men and women choose to sign up, often times right out of highschool or collage, they are willing to put their bodies and lives on the line to defend the nation and our Allies, they can go months to years without seeing their families or their wife’s and kids, if they get deployed into combat situations there’s a chance that they get seriously wounded and die, or seriously injured and their life is never the same again.
Sure a lot of soldiers in the military are back up plans, or work on the base and some may never even get deployed, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t helping protect the country.
Sure other soldiers are more heroic then others, but if you are in any branch of the military, regardless of whether or not you get deployed or ever see actual combat, whether you ever get injured or not, your still a hero, more of a hero then anyone else not serving besides first responders. Don’t discredit the fine men and women that are the reason we can live so comfortably and have the freedom and rights we have now.
The interview of Doss in his late years is phenomenal. "Lord, let me get one more"...."one more"...."one more".
I would say Dan Daly. Only one I know of that was denied a 3rd because it would make it seem not that special of an accomplishment.

My grandfather did two tours in Korea. He would talk about almost everything on his first tour. Not in detail, but he would talk about it. He wouldn't ever talk about anything that happened the second tour. Except that is was the closest thing to hell that the world has ever known.
This hit home with me. I was a medic in the Air Force from 71-80. The last years of the conflict in Vietnam were largely ignored but no less brutal. If you ask, most medics won’t talk about it but have an aching, hollow spot that nags them about those they couldn’t save.
This movie was based on a true story. I usually do t line war movies , but this movie I have watched over and over again!!! Excellent movie!!!!
This is a perfect example of how someone who was allowed to feel safe and secure at a very early life. Grew up to be somebody who was whole from the start without compromise.
He lived his conviction and served his country.
Didn't Doss grow up in an abusive home?
His father abused him and his mother until his teenage when he almost killed his father know the topic before speaking
It's crazy to me, How good of an actor he truly is. Leaves me speechless every time.
It’s better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war.
Bravery like this very rare in civilian life. As a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan I call say whole heartedly I was only ever scared of letting my brothers down. 🇬🇧
Mr Doss was a pillar of greatness. He transcended heroism and became something infinitely special.
Beautiful sentiment. ❤ Thank you for your service.
I've never understood that quote. I mean wouldn't private Doss be considered the gardener in a war? A pacifist who chooses to not carry a gun is anything but a warrior, right?😅
@@eggbertmcflubermuffin9550 still has a warriors mentality. He’s right there in the middle of the shit getting his hands dirty. Not hiding in the back scared
And how is the PTDS going? Any addiction or is everything still just numb?? I wish USA was actually a garden, to me is the 3rd world. Maybe you finally get a civil war, and we can send NATO troops to "help" you XD
Funny things is he WAS a Gardener in a War. And it was better. Being a Warrior isn't the only way to be fearless. This is coming from a Infantryman. I respect this Gardener.
Sometimes I wish Andrew was still Spider-Man, then I remember how diverse his acting is and I’m glad he’s not tied down
If I had a penny for everytime a Spiderman actor went on to brilliantly portray the main character in a war movie, I would have two pennies, which isn’t a lot but its weird it happened twice.
Spidey-Magik
What’s the other movie?
@@NoneHandle2023 I think it's called Brothers. Tobey Maguire plays a soldier who was assumed dead, and then comes back to find out his brother and his wife are basically dating and his kids hate him
@@CoRLex-jh5vxI rember the tralior , I need to see it .
@@KnOnHeavensDoor it's good, definitely a tough watch emotionally though
