According to some notes on the extra content in the game, the more ominous tones in this piece came from the composer having certain key details about Harebrayne, such as “scientist” and “van Zieks’ friend”... I can see where they might have drawn that connection lol, bc it definitely sounds like a theme you’d expect to hear for someone said to be ‘friends’ with van Zieks.
if there was a parallel universe where barok and dobinbough switch personalities, this would def be dobinbough's theme. as it is, it's too serious for him
They wouldn't do anything like that because it contains Albert's leitmotif. Unless it was something related to the guy, using a beta theme like this would be inappropriate on their part.

I really hope they use this theme in another game. It is great just not fitting for him
