Best video on TH-cam on this… my main issues was not paying close enough attention to the way you lined up all the gears. I removed bottom motor assembly and didn’t need the screwdriver trick only because I was frustrated 😩
i was struggling for 2 days to get everything set up right. i got so mad i gave up the first day. second day got so frustrated i took a break and came inside to look up easier ways to do it. took this guys info and it went right together. thank you. new subscriber!
Very nice video and description of the install. I was on my last ditch effort, watched your video and bam!! Appreciate you taking the time. Saved me some $$.
By far the best information on this servo assembly set up installation I have seen! It took many videos to find this. So if you are doing this repair you found the best info! Thank Tou Chris
I’m never one to comment on TH-cam videos, but wow this is one of the best how-to’s I’ve ever watched. I put one of these in months ago and got lucky on my 3rd try putting it in, I tried your trick with the screwdriver alignment tool and it went in first try. Props to you for ingenuity and a great video
Just what I needed. Had my whole dash apart and thought I had the assembly lined up correctly. It seems to go in fine, but all I have now is cold air on the windshield. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
Really happy I found this video, it was super helpful. thanks for making it. I guess the only thing I’d add is after turning my dial to full cold full face. My large center white gear was not lined up I was able to pop it out from behind and position it to the other gears which were again set the full cold full face. Doors set as he said with rubber bands, nice trick 👍
Listen. I really appreciate you making this so simple and accurate. I was absolutely distraught when I took my assembly off and realized that the short white arm for the floor vents was broken off it’s shaft. I gave it a couple of increasing small drill holes and then drilled into the shaft inside the box and used a 3mm self tapping screw to fixate it. So far it’s holding after I timed and installed this assembly. Finally have air from my dash vents and can choose where I want the heat now. Thanks again. Huge help getting it installed.
My issue is that only cold air blows in the front, it'll switch between all the different modes like feet, face, defrost but no heat . The rear passenger heat does work just fine through vents. Would replacing this assembly make the heat come through front vents? Thanks!
@@ianj4474 to me, it sounds like one of the blend doors is stuck in position. I’m not a certified mechanic so take the advice as is. Possible it will show a code on a scan tool. Good luck to you!
Hey @TH-cam. Put this video at the top of the search along with caleb warrens video and turning wrenches auto. By far the easiest to follow and best explanation for installing the servo assembly!
Man, gotta thank you for posting this vid. Middle of the summer and no AC. What a time for my damper motors to crap their pants. I was able to change mine out with your guidance. Grateful.
Thanks for this video! Gaining the confidence to take it on myself. Lots of wrench time over the years, but never anything inside a dashboard. Can’t believe what the dealer wants to repair this. Jeesh!!!
@@willlandreth7762 Yes, however i also had to align all the doors in the correct service orientation as well. i think thats what killed the servo in the first place.
@@mbray10 Cool! Congrats on the fix. How long did it end up taking you? Did you just wing it or do you have a manual that helped? Did you subscribe to Toyota’s Technical Information System for the Factory Service Manual? Appreciate any help or lessons learned you can share and thanks for the reply!
@@mbray10 haha. That’s how I do it sometimes. I got a quote from my local dealer to repair this…over $1700 if just servo and DOUBLE that if the whole box needs replacement. Nuts! I will definitely be taking this on myself. Thanks man!
Thanks for the video, the tips on the flapper and gear positions was precise and perfect, made it super easy to put back together, all except my large hands trying to get a couple of those screws back in place. Nice to have the cold air on my face again on these hot summer days.
Next question My blend door 1/2 gear broke off flush (behind Servo ASS.) ! If I can not repair gear shaft, and replace all w/ new servo assembly, What will or will not happen with my air flow and or Temp?
@@chrisyankus4253 that is a conundrum. I’m not sure to be honest. I could guess that you’ll only have airflow from one or none of the blend doors. I haven’t taken the HVAC box out to see how it looks to repair that gear. Have you checked out a repair manual for your model? I’m a shade tree mechanic with not much experience but know how to do some things. Good luck to you!
What issue was you having to begin with? I'm having trouble with the AUTO light being solid when i start my truck. It takes about a minute and half and then it will go off and i can place it in AUTO again. My issue is the air coming out of the driver vents is warmer than the air coming out of the passenger vents. Would replacing this solve my problem?
@@Crimsontider79 I was getting cold air and no vent control on the driver side, when passenger side worked properly. Replaced the thermostat then flushed cooling system first because that was cheap and easy. Found it was a bad servo. You can find an error code with a Techstream tool or other scan tool
Re assembling installing servo unit ,When the half gear is lined up using screw driver, What is the door flap position? Since the axle pin is broken I have no reference point?
Question? I took mine to dealer and they said I had to replace my HVAC box. Could they be wrong and it was just actuator? Replacing the entire box (evaporator case) looks to be a bigger nightmare. They diagnosed in an hour.
@@matthewd.3276 I don’t really know for sure. One thing you could do, would be to plug in your wire harness and see if both servos move, not being attached to the hvac box that is. Will this fix my AC not blowing out of the face vents? It works fine when i switch it to ever other location, but when I set it to anything that includes the face vents, nothing comes out of them. Thanks!
Hello. What were your symptoms that made you think this was the problem? I currently have no heat on my drivers side. On the floor, the front vents and driver defrost is cold.

@@desertrunner74 I think if you have hot and cold on one side but nothing on the other, that sounds like a blender motor issue. Do you get air out of any of the vents at all on drivers side?
