    Or maybe putting kendo against jian swordsmanship,since i have seen that it was also used in korea.

    @Weaponism Seriously, this channel is so incredibly cool. Tbh im really jealous of you both, i really wish you guys were in South Florida, sparring and weapons training and the philosophy/strategical tactics of martial arts are some of my favorite things to study/practice/analyze in the entire world. I would have loved to spar with you all every day to hone our skills or help participate and make these videos and come up with video ideas with you all. Like I said, everything you do in these videos are some of my favorite activities/studies in the entire world. If you ever need another person on your team to help make and interact in these videos please let me know it would be a dream come true. Keep up the wonderful work with this channel, it's one of the coolest channels ive seen on youtube and the channel that I wanna work with more than any other!

      Why? He didn't invent nito.

      @@Ianmar1 I am wondering why he is crying too, I can't say for sure but the nitoka doesn't seem to be doing Musashikai anyways ( I could be wrong though, not an expert on nito)

      @@Kendotips They had a lesson from Chung Taesun sensei, Musashi kai K6, menkyo NIR.
      th-cam.com/video/doskmTkpodw/w-d-xo.html
      and have probably been attending Musashi kai seminars.
      Their sensei (K7) also seems to understand nito
      th-cam.com/video/GTAH_jUCMXM/w-d-xo.html
      The premise of their recent content is that kendo (kata) is kenjutsu and have attracted an audience thirsty for "kenjutsu sparring" content. Unfortunately their comment section understands neither kendo nor kenjutsu.

    Sadly I don't know much about Kendo. Is it a sport version of swordsmanship? I notice that they go for hands and top of head a lot but wouldn't wearing something like a motorcycle helmet and armored gloves do a great deal to nullify the effectiveness of this art in real life? Is it designed for purely unarmored combat?

    • @Fornevir
      @Fornevir 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Well, its considered as a martial art, and to score a point in combat you have to strike the head, the hands or poke the throat (idk smth more i don't remember) they use a shibai a bamboo sword so the hits aren't really that much.

      Kendo is kind of like a sport form of swordsmanship. There are specific rules involving valid target areas and attacks, in some ways it makes it comparable to Olympic fencing. I don’t all the specifics though.

    • @DawnMir
      @DawnMir 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yep! It is a sport version of the Kenjutsu (Traditional Japanese sword fight). The 4 targets in Kendo are: Men (Head), Kote (Wrist), Do (Waist), and Tsuki (Throat). The reason why they aim for these 4 targets are because those are the 4 areas that can immediately unarm or neutralize the opponent.
      To answer your question if it is purely designed for unarmed combat, it is assuming a situation where 2 samurais fighting one another in Edo period of Japan. (It is when Kendo was created).
      During Edo period, samurais always carried 2 swords on their waist and nothing else. Uchigatana (Katana) and Wakizashi (Dagger) is the only weapon they carried around without any armor since it would be weird carrying armor around everywhere you go. Also since it is feudal Japan, you wouldn’t have any motorcycle helmet or armored gloves that could protect you.
      Realistically speaking, no one nowadays would be carrying katana on their daily life and suddenly start fighting another person with a katana. So you can imagine this a fight between 2 samurais in Edo period who carried around their katana everywhere but since they didn’t carry any armor with them, it would be over if they got hit in the head or throat.

      The previous post was very complete on shinai kendo. I will add that kendo contains a small kenjutsu curriculum in the kendo kata:
      th-cam.com/video/xXuh3kxdU2k/w-d-xo.html
      We have seven longsword kata and three short sword kata; the MusashiKai guys also have twelve nito kata although I do not know if those are officially recognized. For comparison, Musashi's kenjutsu school Niten Ichi-ryu has twelve longsword kata, seven shortsword kata , five nito kata, and kata sets for each of the bo, the aikuchi, and the jutte, needless to say it is a much more complete combat system.
      Most people make up their own minds about what kendo is. It is difficult to understand from the outside, and comparisons to European sport fencing always seem to miss the mark. This 24 minute video provides a very concise history of kendo
      th-cam.com/video/AP_NwitaquM/w-d-xo.html
      Hopefully it helps with your understanding.
