It's my absolute favorite piece of Hades lore, that in the desperate war against the titans, Hestia (often depicted as kind, quiet and chaste) pulls out a gat and goes "BISH, YOU THOUGHT?!?!"
Your take on Dionysus seems to be more in line with his Roman reimagining, Bacchus. While both Dionysus and Bacchus were wine gods, Dionysus retained a few of the more...serious...traits that he lost when he became Bacchus. Dionysus is actually a much, much older god than the Classical Greek pantheon, dating all the way back to the Bronze Age and Mycenaean Greece, where he was Dionysoio (Di-Wo-Nu-Su-Jo in Linear B), an IMMENSELY powerful Cthonic deity of death, rebirth (with strong ties to Orpheus. Look into the Orphic cults, it is fascinating), madness, social outcasts, and wine. Despite him being one of the earliest recorded deities present in Greece he is actually one of the latest to be “officially” considered one of the olympians. This is primarily because, as a deity of social outcasts and madness, he was necessarily not a part of the mainstream. (He slowly softened over time to become more widely accepted, leading to his eventual transformation into Bacchus, the god of parties.) One of his most important groups of devotees were the Maenads, large groups of women who would celebrate his festival by leaving the extremely restrictive lives they led in their cities and running around naked in the woods for a week, shedding their inhibitions and doing whatever they wanted. Dionysus served as a social pressure release valve, allowing those repressed by society to function within it by giving them an emotional vent. Being fit would have almost been a prerequisite for his character, as in his classical interpretation he was less about hedonism and more about freedom from societal constraints and having the agency to act in a manner you see fit, which contrasts significantly with the image of self-indulgence (as is usually associated with plus-sized body types, for better or for worse.) At the end of the day my take on this is that Hades depiction of Dionysus is surprisingly accurate to the Ancient Greek conception of him, even if the modern conception may have been better served by changing his appearance somewhat. If you’re interested in learning more about Dionysus, I’d suggest watching Overlysarcasticproductions video on him, it’s both comprehensive and succinct.
This might be an odd take, but I think having Dionysus as a very fit-looking person fits a different aspect of hedonism. Namely it replaces the mindless self-indulgence with the active pursuit of ones own pleasure. It also alludes to a hyperfocus of on self-image and in keeping the assumption one could make connecting that with a generic toxic attitude of "I'm bigger than you so I get/do what I want, when I want, and dont need to listen to you".
I agree with your pov. I think that any kind of body type could have suited his image, however, the addition of eye bags would have been a nice detail: pursuing pleasure is not an uncommon concept, but to taste every drop of time may be the ultimate lust for self-indulgence.
I also like that they didn't just give him the fat body Dionysus always get. Just because you indulge a lot, doesn't mean you get fat. I would've liked to see more characters not in that category with a larger body type, instead of handing it to the typical "gluttonous" character.
Got an uncle who powerlifts even after getting a triple bypass surgery A friend of mine is so addicted to running and the high he gets from it his kidneys were starting to fail from him running so much I can totally see how fitness would be a form of self-indulgence
In greek myth, Dionysus is typically pictured as an adolescent, as he is one of the youngest gods (a child of Zeus, and a mortal Semele), he is often a lean Adonis-like figure. So his portrayal in the game is accurate. It's kinda sad actually, they didn't capture the frenzy or madness part of his character though, like what if he gave boons that confused your enemies, or briefly turned them against their friends?
Using conventional ages, the Lord trio (Hadies, Zeus, and Poseidon) would be in there 50's-60's, Hadies being the oldest. That being the case that would put the majority of the others in there 30's or late 20's. Then you have the youngest, Dionysus, who is maybe 18-24. He's the collage frat bro who can party like the god of wine because his metabolism is still good. And old Dionysus is absolutely going to be fat.
Lol I'm glad you figured out the mystery of the death defied :P For Aphrodite's Call, remember that her Max God Gauge bonus doesn't increase the duration, but also makes it deal TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED damage when it lands! It's able to one shot the Hydra after the phase where you deal with the six mini heads
I dont know Skyen... I feel you confuse Dionysus with his Roman equivalent Bacchus. While indeed Dionysus was god of "parties" his portfolio did not involve food as Bacchus' did. Διονύσια was the name of ritualistic celebration in his name and they were practically EXTREMELY drunk Halloween. They lasted 1 week if I recall correctly and people were dressed as animals. Unlike Halloween though this celebration was held during the end of winter, which is why even nowadays in Greece we have carnivals during February instead of October.
The game will tell him when he can do stuff, tips like "talk to the rock" might only be a useful comment when he missed his chance once or twice, for example after sysiphus gives him a hint in that general direction, not 3 hours into a game with about 100 hours of meta progress.
RE: Dionysus' character design. I hear you on wanting more body diversity, but I think the whole fat = indulgent trope is a little tired. A lot of these characters could stand to be a bit bigger honestly, although that might be part of the stylization.
Everyone likes to talk about how Hades got “the short end of the stick,” forgetting that all he has to do is wait for all the wealth and souls of the world to eventually become his. Arguably he got the best deal.
I can't make promises for anyone else, but I plan to keep watching these til we both manage to beat the game enough times to get the true ending. best of luck!
I don’t think anyone’s told you yet, but you can only get two hammer upgrades per run. So if you’re planning on just decking your weapon out in hammer “boons” instead of Gods, don’t expect it. There is a way to replace hammer boons but it’s usually in the last area, costs money and is based on RNG so choose your hammer boons wisely.
Achilles: laments about the "cruel" (effective, simple, and detached) weapon, while also taking solace that humans haven't made their own yet. Skyen: Let's smack it with an upgrade hammer to see what this baby is really capable of! Can't say I disagree though! Also, I just have this image of of an LMG barrel sticking out of a fireplace of an invaded home. Possibly with a bipod.
Aphrodite's Call is a weird one. Some Calls (Zeus and Dionysus, for example) work very well on single-bar casts, but Aphrodite *really* wants you to throw a full gauge into it for the Greater Call, especially against bosses, where it will absolutely bloody well crater their health bars. Try out Zeus's keepsake with the Adamant Rail next time, and try to get his chain lightning on your attack. The Adamant Rail rather likes Boons that offer a flat damage boost of some sort (Zeus, Ares w/ the "additional hits stack Doom" upgrade, Dionysus), but the real winner here is the God of Thunder. And, yeah, the spread fire upgrade for the Rail is *awful* unless you're intentionally building around it. Which you probably aren't, if you took the Rail in the first place.
Hey dude, I just found you through this play-through and I gotta say, it's an absolute delight. You've got enough knowledge about Greek mythology that I'm just nodding along and smiling every time you talk about it - your thoughts are so informed about the base premise yet free about individual interpretation (which is honestly very historically accurate) I just get really happy hearing what you think. Your viewpoints on everything is generally truly refreshing, but your inclusive and thoughtful way of talking about things very relevant for the current political climate warms my heart. You've gotten a new sub today, think I'm gonna have to check out more of your stuff after this.

Sisphyis was a mircale healer and who could revive the dead Hades was tired of him taking what belonged to him so he sent the embodiment of death to go and kill him. However, Sisyphus knew something like this was likley to happen one day so when the grim reaper arrived he locked them in a box for days. I don't quite remember how but after a while death escapes and kills him but he told his wife not to bury him and to leave him on the streets (which was very against Greek burial norms). So, another God took pity on him and brought him back to life, allowing him to escape Hades once more. Eventually, however, after a long life, Sisphyus died of natural causes. Hence why Sisphyus is punished by eternally doing something entirely purposeless, just as how he did in life as avoiding death is only possible for so long. Tantulus is the guy who broke Greek hospitality rules and fed his own son who he had killed to the gods.
Look out for golden vases! Those are the ones with money in them from the house contractor renevation! It's a visual indicator so you don't have to break every vase in existence hoping for gold
Okay, you may not see this, what with the video being over half a year old, but Sisyphus didn't do any murder or f*cked up shit, that was Tantalus. Boy howdy was it Tantalus. Sisyphus tricked Hades and then Thanatos, cheating death twice. The first time, beforehand he told his wife to not do the proper funeral rites when he died, and then he was like, "My silly wife forgot to do a proper burial, you need to let me back up there to give her a stern talking to, and then I'll be right back. Promise." (Narrator voice- he did not come back.) So then Thanatos turns up in person to collect him. I don't remember how he did this, but he tied Than up. So not only could he not die, but nobody else could, either. So. Hades was kind of annoyed about that. I forget how it resolves after that exactly, but we know how it ended. Tantalus killed his son and fed him to the gods as a sacrifice when they unexpectedly turned up for dinner. They...weren't happy about that. He did some other things, too, but that's the doozy.
Actually none of Sisyphus story can be considered "fact" besides that he cheated death and pushes a boulder. Even on the wiki it talks of how he killed his guests and robbed them, and that is just one of many of his (sometimes conflicting) stories. I'd like to let you know, NONE of the stories are wrong, yours is just as valid, but simply claiming "Sisyphus didn't do that" as if it's fact is wrong. Sisyphus' story has been passed around and changed here and there so much no one really knows EXACTLY and FACTUALLY what originally happened, you claiming that he simply and plainly "didn't do those things" (as if you would know that for sure, you weren't there when the story was created, literally NO ONE could truly know) is invalidating everyone else's stories they've read about him. Also yeah Tantalus killed and served his kid, and? That's completely unrelated. How SISYPHUS' killings went is he would invite people into his home, kill them, and take their belongings, or so some of the stories say. My personal story is the same as yours btw! I prefer the one I read where he is innocent but I can't simply suddenly just act like his murder versions don't exist, because they are just as valid as the version of him I read! Also the version you are trying to tell went like this: Sisyphus dies, tricks and chains up Thanatos so nobody else dies including himself. Of course Ares didn't like that idea so he freed Thanatos and ARES dealt with Sisyphus because Than was too salty/scared to face him after already being chained up by him. Then yeah he tricked Hades by manipulating Persephone with his fake burial ritual story with his wife, and then he dies and gets sentenced to his punishment because they didn't want other mortals getting the same bright idea thinking they won't be punished severly. At least the version I read had it in that order, which he only lied to Hades after his first cheating of death because Persephone was easily swayed.
One suggestion I would have for using the gun is: change reload to L1 having it on R3 probably sucks. Codex is currently on L1 and that is fine to switch
Some general advice, you can Dash through objects, walls and gaps, also every max gauge Call does something different, you can check what it does in the boon itself before choosing it.
Hey, in case you want to ensure getting Deflect, you can start the run with Athenas keepsake and change it later (thats what I do Anyway) but is your choice.
Hey Skyen, little tip for you, it's usually easier to get your meta progression faster if you give 1 nectar to each one of the npcs before you start giving more to the ones you like the most, since you don't getting anything special after the first time
I rarely comment but if you'll keep making these I will have no choice. I adore this game. It's super satisfying to get better at and I'm looking forward to your improvement every episode.
Hey Skyen, I don't know if you know already or not, but you can dash over pits and through walls (within limitations, of course). I just know I've seen you running around most pits and such so I figured this might be a helpful tip for a little extra maneuverability ^^;
Oh and the Aphrodite greater call is a boss killing nuke. It goes from pacifying one enemy to doing that and also 2500 damage. It's just that you hit it on one of the hydras heads when it still has armor, and the extra damage after breaking armor doesn't carry over to the main health bar
Which, like, they don't mention that part of armor anywhere so there's no way you would've known that without just more play time and finding stuff out, it was just an unfortunate first test of that call lol
Again, death defiances are 1 50% heal when you die, up to 3 lvls. Stuborn defiance is 30% heal instead of death, and it is added back after you lose it in every room.
This game is addicting to watch. Its so fun watching you slowly get better and farther each run and I cant wait until you finally beat it for the first time!
Ah Alecto. My favorite Fury. I've never died to her because during her Rage mode she gives chase and I use that opportunity to make her step into the many traps all over the room. I barely attack her because she keeps hurting herself with the traps. If you have any deflect moves I just use it on her projectiles while shes charging up her Rage. I find her easier than Meg /laugh
If I can get the "Your special is a rocket" hammer upgrade early, the rail is like my favorite weapon. Then if I get the "You can use your special 3 times" or better yet "You fire 5 rockets at once" in Elysium and some extra special damage it's absolutely deadly. PS: Consider sometimes picking upgrades that you never picked before (with the scroll icon) to fulfill the prophecies. They give you a reward for experimenting a bit. PS2: I spent 90 hours on this game in order to unlock the epilogue. Yeah, this is a long game :P
Hey Skyen, glad you are still enjoying the game. A little tip: you are overrating god calls, you really don't need one in every run. And try to keep reaching Elysium, maybe you will find a inevitable acquaintance there.
Personally, I always take an impervious god call if I see it, though. Having an extended period of free damage during a boss fight is real handy, no matter your build.
Love Hades and will definitely watch every episode. Also I wouldn't worry too much about the Fated List, it's mostly optional and is just there to encourage you to try out different builds.
Was binging this series, and in the last episode you mentioned using the custom emojis . So here I am in the next episode having Joined this channel, and using custom emojis I am happy you added a way to support you via TH-cam because apparently, that is the only way I can actually monetarily support someone. Mostly because I don't have an international credit/debit card and because Paypal support in India is.....confusing to say the least? This basically means Patreon, Twitch bits, etc are all impossible for me. So here's the only possible monetary support I can give outside of TH-cam SuperChats and SuperStickers (on the chance that I actually catch them live). Hope this can brighten your day, or even your hour, just a little bit. You have certainly brightened my life with your incredible analysis and genuinely funny commentary - whether they be actual words or incoherent screams .
Many plot points in the game open/get completed after you get to the "end" of the game. The narrative doesn't end at all at that time, many developments need you to meet characters a lot of times and to progress your relationship with them. It's much more of a grind though, but I hope you'll give it a shot to at least unlock everything! I'm clearing the game myself, about 25 wins/50 runs into things, and still far from resolving everything :(
Yeesss, I'm happy there's more! I've had the exact problem as you had when it came to spending my Titan Blood for the first time ^^; I also thought you could unlock multiple abilities instead of just choosing the one
Still waiting for Skyen to realise that Skelett ti es him a free DD. Also, watching him misinterpret half the game mechanics is both hilarious and oh so frustrating xd
I will keep watching till we get the true ending (asking for the epilogue is asking for much) Which at the rate we are going might take a while but I won’t complain as we watch Skyen slowly learn and master the game and discover new things to love about the art and characters.
That first 5 titan blood expenditure was a little bit oofed my friend. Titan blood is a bitch to get and I recommend you invest in one aspect for each weapon to start with. Chiron on the bow is sick once it's maxed out but it's a little mediocre before that. Hera bow is fricking great when combined with Dionysis Cast. You can really clear a room with that Talos on the fists is great. Poseidon on the sword is fantastic if you want to play a cast heavy play style that can work really really really well once you get used to it. Other than that I'd go Nemesis The shield's aspects are kinda mediocre tbh but the best one in my opinion is the Chaos aspect but really only after you max it out. The spear's aspects are a bit weird and I don't really have much of an opinion on these. For the Adamant rail both the new aspects are really good. Just different playstyles really.
Yeah the titan blood thing happened to me as well, dumped it all into the bow thinking it was multiple buffs at once Should be explained better honestly, not a big deal mistake tho
You know... just Greek Mythology... WITH GUNS. :v Actually, this is gonna sound weird, but it reminds me of playing rail shooters. Almost expected the game to shout 'RELOAD' at you a couple times by now. Sega, y u do this 2 me? @_@ This AND the Samira vid today. We just DMC all over the place. :B
Yessss i totally agree with dionysus being chubby/chunky/etc. my first instinct would be for aphrodite to be a bit chubbier to fit with her classical depictions, but she has an interesting angular face shape which i think is good enough. Dionysus tho is a perfect choice, a) cause it fits the whole feasting thing b) body diversity c) im a gay man and chubby wine god with his thighs out is hot as hell

Dionysus looks and acts like a frat guy IMO so it's kinda fitting.
Dionysus is/was the youngest Olympian, and portraying him as a slender, androgynous youth was actually the norm in art and whatnot
Dionysus is depicted to be beautiful in Greek mythology, even more than a girl when he was younger. It’s his friend Silenus who is fat and drunk.

Giving Skelly some Ambrosia is very helpful. Dood deserves it anyways.
Hey, in case you want to ensure getting Deflect, you can start the run with Athenas keepsake and change it later (thats what I do Anyway) but is your choice.
Hey Skyen, little tip for you, it's usually easier to get your meta progression faster if you give 1 nectar to each one of the npcs before you start giving more to the ones you like the most, since you don't getting anything special after the first time
9:38 i only unlocked the option to talk to bouldy waaaay later and also after giving Sisiphus some more of the orange stuff
I rarely comment but if you'll keep making these I will have no choice. I adore this game. It's super satisfying to get better at and I'm looking forward to your improvement every episode.
Hey Skyen, I don't know if you know already or not, but you can dash over pits and through walls (within limitations, of course). I just know I've seen you running around most pits and such so I figured this might be a helpful tip for a little extra maneuverability ^^;
just so u know, the level 4 aphrodite call does enough damage to one-hit the hydra in its last phase c:
Oh and the Aphrodite greater call is a boss killing nuke. It goes from pacifying one enemy to doing that and also 2500 damage. It's just that you hit it on one of the hydras heads when it still has armor, and the extra damage after breaking armor doesn't carry over to the main health bar
Which, like, they don't mention that part of armor anywhere so there's no way you would've known that without just more play time and finding stuff out, it was just an unfortunate first test of that call lol
Aaaand since charm is a technically a move debuff, armored targets ignore it
Will happily take more, but wouldn't mind pacing ourselves. Maybe twice or thrice a week, if you want to roll it out slowly.
Hold attack doesn't immobailse you and can often be combined with dodging to basically become this untouchable nightmare of death
I'm just gonna accept that once a week I'm gonna be sleeping late
Again, death defiances are 1 50% heal when you die, up to 3 lvls. Stuborn defiance is 30% heal instead of death, and it is added back after you lose it in every room.
This game is addicting to watch. Its so fun watching you slowly get better and farther each run and I cant wait until you finally beat it for the first time!
I will in fact watch the darn videos. Hades content from my favorite content creators gives me LIFE
Me: cast?
Skyen: no cast
Me: Cast??
Skyen: no cast!
Me: Cast??? ;____;
Skyen: cast. One cast.
Alecto is definitely my favorite of the furies
If I can get the "Your special is a rocket" hammer upgrade early, the rail is like my favorite weapon. Then if I get the "You can use your special 3 times" or better yet "You fire 5 rockets at once" in Elysium and some extra special damage it's absolutely deadly.
PS: Consider sometimes picking upgrades that you never picked before (with the scroll icon) to fulfill the prophecies. They give you a reward for experimenting a bit.
PS2: I spent 90 hours on this game in order to unlock the epilogue. Yeah, this is a long game :P
the guns gameplay reminds me a lot of lucian, just with a ziggs ult XD
So glad that you’ll be uploading more of Hades! I really think you’ll enjoy the journey to the land of the living ;3
dyonisus and the gym indulgence
Damn, my poor friend bloodstones must have really hurt Skyens feelings at some point...
@@miracletortoise6224 oh i agree, Athena's call is amazing and also my favorite, but not always we find her.
Love Hades and will definitely watch every episode. Also I wouldn't worry too much about the Fated List, it's mostly optional and is just there to encourage you to try out different builds.
It's technically not murder if they get better.
Enjoy these as much as always! Sending you the sweet relief that you did well uploading them more often :)
Glad to see another update so soon! Sad that I’ll have to wait another week or so though to continue my binge 😅
1:04:23 !! Great content and Artemis is best girl
Was binging this series, and in the last episode you mentioned using the custom emojis . So here I am in the next episode having Joined this channel, and using custom emojis
I am happy you added a way to support you via TH-cam because apparently, that is the only way I can actually monetarily support someone.
I can't wait until you meet Thanatos
Keep'em coming and keep up the amazing work mr.Skyen
Many plot points in the game open/get completed after you get to the "end" of the game. The narrative doesn't end at all at that time, many developments need you to meet characters a lot of times and to progress your relationship with them. It's much more of a grind though, but I hope you'll give it a shot to at least unlock everything!
I'm clearing the game myself, about 25 wins/50 runs into things, and still far from resolving everything :(
Yo you got some spoiler there about who you need to kill 10 times so edit your comment ya?
@@franmesic5205 my bad. Corrected.
Has anyone of you noticed the wordplay for dusa? medusa? maid dusa?
I still can't believe there is a gun in this game.
Yeesss, I'm happy there's more!
I've had the exact problem as you had when it came to spending my Titan Blood for the first time ^^;
I also thought you could unlock multiple abilities instead of just choosing the one
Part 6 and still wondering what part he'll learn that he can dash over gaps in the floor.
I love this game and I love your insight. Dream come true.
Still waiting for Skyen to realise that Skelett ti es him a free DD. Also, watching him misinterpret half the game mechanics is both hilarious and oh so frustrating xd
omg i was hoping you'd play this game!! i love your commentary and recently Hades, hope to see more in the future!!
Thank you so much for your videos. You make my day better than yesterday
Glad you like them!
Aspect of Talos is so good
Nice, more hot people, I mean hades
I will keep watching till we get the true ending (asking for the epilogue is asking for much) Which at the rate we are going might take a while but I won’t complain as we watch Skyen slowly learn and master the game and discover new things to love about the art and characters.
I think 200 gems for 1 titans blood is a rly good deal imo
Aww you actually read my rambling, im flatterd ^-^
Im deeply enjoying this platthrough and your commentary Skyen`
Thank's for everything, and keep being awesome
That first 5 titan blood expenditure was a little bit oofed my friend. Titan blood is a bitch to get and I recommend you invest in one aspect for each weapon to start with.
Chiron on the bow is sick once it's maxed out but it's a little mediocre before that. Hera bow is fricking great when combined with Dionysis Cast. You can really clear a room with that
Talos on the fists is great.
Poseidon on the sword is fantastic if you want to play a cast heavy play style that can work really really really well once you get used to it. Other than that I'd go Nemesis
The shield's aspects are kinda mediocre tbh but the best one in my opinion is the Chaos aspect but really only after you max it out.
The spear's aspects are a bit weird and I don't really have much of an opinion on these.
For the Adamant rail both the new aspects are really good. Just different playstyles really.
YES MORE PLEASE......
If you left the game after spending the blood and didn't enter the bedroom the game didn't saved, so you could spend it a little more carefully.
That shotgun upgrade was so bad!
I WILL WATCH ALL THE DARN VIDEOS
my SO also identified Charon as prime boyfriend material, though in his case its cus hes really into monster/inhuman characters haha.
Yeah the titan blood thing happened to me as well, dumped it all into the bow thinking it was multiple buffs at once
Should be explained better honestly, not a big deal mistake tho
Must... Keep... Watching...
Oh, I'll be back.
Mmhm, good stuff. Could watch this stuff all day long.
ok mama il go wash my hands
0:26 thats me when I found your content :D
You know... just Greek Mythology... WITH GUNS. :v
Actually, this is gonna sound weird, but it reminds me of playing rail shooters. Almost expected the game to shout 'RELOAD' at you a couple times by now. Sega, y u do this 2 me? @_@
This AND the Samira vid today. We just DMC all over the place. :B
@@Yal_Rathol I KNOW... it's messing with me a little. XD
MOAR
i'm expected to watch the videos, eh?
well it's a good thing they're so gosh darn enjoyable, now isn't it?
Yessss i totally agree with dionysus being chubby/chunky/etc. my first instinct would be for aphrodite to be a bit chubbier to fit with her classical depictions, but she has an interesting angular face shape which i think is good enough. Dionysus tho is a perfect choice, a) cause it fits the whole feasting thing b) body diversity c) im a gay man and chubby wine god with his thighs out is hot as hell
Anyone else shipping Tisiphone and Charon?
