    this man doesn't blink. Legend has it, it's been two months, still hasn't blinked. j/k xD Also, the foot guards help you get that locked in feeling. Without them, you will struggle.

      Lol man! I had to go back and see and you’re right, not sure how that happened.
      I still need to put the bindings on, I’ve been doing fine without them, not even getting foot fatigue. I need to go get some washers to make the mounting bolts mate better I think.

    For those who are just starting on a summerboard, the best surface that I have found is actually tennis courts. It was my wife's idea and boy was she right. It's different than other surfaces and it's perfect! Nice video Shaun. Why no bindings?

      Thanks Donny-- honestly have had fun without the bindings. I may try to learn fakey before mounting them just to have some additional confidence.

      @@shaunvx7102 You are really good without bindings. What does fakey mean? (I'm old)😁 is it the same as switch? I'm working on switch to make riding twice as fun.

    Looks awesome, seems you're going to go through 'edge wheels' frequently though...
    Not certain how 'cone shaped' the edge wheels are from the beginning, but the cone shape was noticable from examination of the state of your board after a bit of ride.

    • @shaunvx7102
      @shaunvx7102  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You can rotate the wheels and get quite a bit of life out of them but it really depends on how you ride. If you slide a ton then you’ll go through wheels faster, but you can ride centers and not chew through wheels. Personally I like sliding and I’m not too worried about replacing and rotating.

    • @shaunvx7102
      @shaunvx7102  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! One of the best out there, TSG Pass. It comes with two full face visors, one mirrored and one clear. I have the visors off right now since it’s hot and get better airflow but they work just fine. If you look to buy one, take your measurements and get a size up from what TSG recommends. I promise if you don’t, you’ll end up with cauliflower ear. Great helmet.

    You think this could help someone learn to snow board? Only been twice in 2 years because the closest mountains are 18 hours away... I'd love to make the most of a winter mountain trip and this also looks like fun.

    • @shaunvx7102
      @shaunvx7102  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I definitely think it can to a point. The mechanics are a bit different, but similar enough. I honestly think snowboarding is more forgiving, especially if you crash! But on a snowboard your edges have more contact with the snow vs Summerboard, I also feel like I have more control on a snowboard for turning and stopping.
      Summerboard is still a great alternative and it’s own thing as well.

    Could be wrong cuz I don't have one. But I feel like riding a rip stick is very similar to how he is riding in the center wheels.

    • @shaunvx7102
      @shaunvx7102  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really, ripstick articulation is a little different and since the SBX is powered the sensation is quite different as well.
      When riding centers you don’t have a ton of rocker before you engage the outer wheels.

    I've watched so many videos and nobody talks about the range? It says 12 miles.... Depending on weight I assume it's 6 to 7 miles

    • @shaunvx7102
      @shaunvx7102  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      that's a good question. I probably average around an hour of riding between 10-15 mph. I honestly don't track the miles, and for me personally I have no complains on range but I am not using it to commute.

    If I have never used a skateboard, but I am decent at snowboarding, would I be successful in riding this? The fear of falling on concrete is real

    • @shaunvx7102
      @shaunvx7102  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly skateboarding experience makes it harder to learn, this feels much more like a snowboard.
      Crashing on concrete sucks. Get some good armor, protective gear and a solid helmet and it will give you some confidence, you have to trust the board and the process of learning to a certain extent.
      It’s like snowboarding but not exactly the same. A lot of the skills are transferable but the biggest difference is you’re balancing on two motorized center wheels. With snowboarding you use the mountain, and you weight your front foot more, the Summerboard wants more weight in the back just takes a little getting used to.
      I’ve only crashed a couple times, and I have no injuries, but believe me there is a risk factor. If you are constantly catching edges and don’t put in the time to learn, you can get pretty hurt. The board goes over 25mph. I literally just got back from a dirt biking adventure, trail riding and I basically wear the same gear on the SBX. I’m going faster on the dirt bike than on the SBX but concrete, asphalt is no joke. If you can, follow the videos on the Summerboard’s website, they really do give you a good understanding of the board even though they may look a little boring or silly.
      When you’re riding this thing and in sync with it, it’s just amazing. Nothing like it except snowboarding.

    • @travisroth4077
      @travisroth4077 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What is your gear other than helmet? I purchased a summerboard, still on the way, and I still can feel my first major rollerblade wipeout 25 years later, so wanna get gear.

    • @shaunvx7102
      @shaunvx7102  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use some alpine stars bionic armor, knee pads and some wrist guards. Crashing on cement is no joke. I’ve only wiped out once and no worse for wear but I ride a lot faster now and even with all the gear I’d be concerned.

    • @travisroth4077
      @travisroth4077 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shaunvx7102 cool I was thinking some body armor would be a good idea. I am just learning basics and have been wearing pads (butt and hip/knee/wrist/elbow). A friend was telling me about his onewheel crash and I think some armor with shoulder protection might have saved him hospital time… hmm.

      @shaunvx7102  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, I hadn't ridden the board a ton due to a number of reasons, weather mostly. Mostly ride on weekends, but I got quite a few sessions out of the first battery charge since I was learning. I blow through the battery pretty much every session now.

    what about freebord ?

    • @shaunvx7102
      @shaunvx7102  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haven’t ridden one, but it’s probably pretty similar but lower weight. The Summerboard is heavy with the motors and battery, but that’s what allows you to ride the flats. I have no interest in freebord and downhill is pretty dangerous, there is no throttle control. Summerboard on flats is way more controllable and safe in my opinion.

    • @shaunvx7102
      @shaunvx7102  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No but I really want to. I was considering buying one prior to the SBX, but the whole nose dive thing bothers me a bit. Seems like there could be some engineering in that product that could alert audibly or something when you get into the feedback loop that causes the nose dive situation, but before it happens.

    • @wizrom3046
      @wizrom3046 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@shaunvx7102 the nosedive isn't a problem if you keep the speed reasonable and don't get heavy on the front foot. It's mainly a beginner problem.
      And I'm guessing your Summerboard can be a bit dangerous to a beginner too... anyway, thanks for replying! 🙂

    • @shaunvx7102
      @shaunvx7102  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yea- Summerboard catching an edge is no picnic, but it’s on me. With OW I am concerned with the board shutting off, and while I assume it’s a beginner issue I think I’ll probably hold off for a couple more iterations before I get one. They look super fun to off-road on, it would be sick to trail ride.

    What's maintenance, quality durability like?

    • @shaunvx7102
      @shaunvx7102  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know I have put about maybe 100 miles on it now and I haven’t done any maintenance other than flip the wheels so they will wear even.
      Some say that adjusting and lubricating the brushes is required at a certain point, but my wheels still get solid power, don’t studder and they rotate in their housing freely. It doesn’t look hard to do though.
      I finally put the new freshie 2.0 wheels on and it took me maybe 5 minutes for each wheel, pretty straight forward. Freshies make a huge difference on the roads I ride, it’s pretty significant.
      Apparently Summerboard is working on a sealed SR360 wheel housing that is sealed and doesn’t require maintenance or significantly reduces it. That would basically leave you with rotating or replacing wheels for maintenance. I think they are supposed to come out this summer.
      Quality wise I have no complaints except the board where the slots are cut do crack but apparently don’t cause any issues. I wish the deck was a little more reinforced on those areas but aside from that I have no complaints right now. Customer service is very responsive if you do have an issue though.
