    I was considering moving to Albuquerque so I watched a video tour. If I didn't know any better, it looked like another side of my town, but cleaner. The weather is similar except its 15 degrees colder than where I live. That's perfect because it's hot as hell here, but the winters are the best because it's not that cold. It has almost the same population as my town. My only concern is whether or not there's enough water to live out in the desert just outside of town. All that undeveloped land outside of town is so cheap that it's worth buying and having a well put in if there's enough water to grow food and keep animals.

    • @AllAboutABQ
      @AllAboutABQ  ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm from a very low-sun area and have a lot of issues with seasonal depression. The cloudiness really really gets to me. I'm thinking about relocating to Albuquerque, but I'm curious about the perspective of people who live there, if so much sunshine ever gets tedious day after day. I've been out to visit and of course I think the area is gorgeous but I'm a bit hesitant because of 'tourist syndrome', that I wouldn't like it as much living there as when I visited. In any case, it looks like a really great market for buying a house.

      Bill, you bring up some good points! I'm obviously a big fan of ABQ/Rio Rancho however the climate takes some getting used to. Remember, we're at elevation so the direct sunlight will fry you if you're not careful. We've seen an influx of buyers from the Pacific Northwest moving here here escape the clouds....let us know when you'd like to take a closer look at our State!

    Yes it’s beautiful here in Albuquerque but it’s high in crime I hate to say! Be street smart ! One do not leave anything at all in your car period! Your car will be broke into mostly likely. Or it will be stolen. Buy a lock for you steering wheel! These are a must! Buy cameras for your outside & inside. Plus install flood & motion lights too! Keep your doors lock as well! I might suggest Tijeras to live at. Less crimes! Sincerely do look a crime rate & cars that are stolen! Honestly do not stay in a hotel in Albuquerque! Your car or your uhaul will be stolen from the parking lot! Sad but true! Look it up how many times it happens! I personally I tell all my friends never stop & spend the night in Albuquerque! Stay in Edgewood before you get to Albuquerque! I do live here ! I forgot to mention the shooting that goes on too! Good luck with anyone moving here! Just be safe & your guard up!

    My family settled in N New Mexico in the 1590s. Sopapillas and a few other NM Foods have their origins in Sephardic Foods, (Sephardi are Jews from Spain and Portugal) Among the Sephardi who went to Greece and Italy in 1492 you find Sopapillas served with honey but called Bumuellos. There are great restaurants here.
    and, for the most part the people are friendly. (Funny video!) * I had an 2-day express delivery held up indefinitely because the store said my card was issued outside the US. It was issued by a bank in downtown Albuquerque. I told them they had only two choices, ship my order that day or refund my $1200. They had no other option. They shipped it. * Not only calories, but cholesterol also. But I really like the city. It's more laid back and slower paced than other large cities.

      @@davidlaney6153 I lived in Chicago and Tampa Bay area for 65 years, I chose to retire in Albuquerque. The weather is absolutely perfect, so many outstanding restaurants, the culture, art scene is so unique. The pace of life is very relaxed,slow compared to where I was.Outdoor activities are boundless,so many choices. I must admit, however, the medical care here is disappointing. Thank God I'm strong and healthy. Crime is so frustrating, car jackings , breaking and entering, guns everywhere, but that's everywhere now, sad to say. It's also economical, half the cost of living in St. Petersburg Florida. I do miss the beaches, but not the humidity

    One of the first things I noticed when we moved here was all the car parts - headlights, fenders, metal - from the accidents at almost every other corner. The first day here we got a flat tire after driving a piece of a crashed car in our lane. The mail service is not like the rest of the US. Living in the Midwest, we would send mail and it would generally arrive at its destination in two or so days.
    In Albuquerque, when we mail things out, it can take several weeks to arrive in the Midwest. I always mail things from the post office inside (because of so many thefts) but many of my packages never arrive at their destination. I don't mail out gifts anymore from here, but I am wondering if I should use something like Fedex etc. Education is almost a non existent thing in NM and a huge percentage of the population never even finish highschool We have helped many folks read signs at the gas station, grocery store, etc. because they are illiterate. There are nice libraries around but few seem to use them. You will notice children during schooldays with their parents grocery shopping or out and about because parents and kids do not place education as a priority. As a result there are very few real school days in the state.
    On the plus side, the weather is beautiful here, people are very friendly, folks can golf 365 days a year. Businesses will tell you what you WANT to hear, but then often do not call back or show up as they said they would. It's VERY hard to get anything done for your home in Albuquerque - no lawn maintenance, reliable cleaning services (they tend to disappear) or, in an emergency (which happened to us) our 'regular' plumbers told us they couldn't come for a week.
    It's a beautiful place but also an EXTREMELY frustrating place if you've previously lived somewhere where folks are well educated and responsible.

Also Los Lunas is a growing city and you have conveniences of restaurants, shopping, and work in 10 minutes. The biggest pro is we have plenty of water. Most places you can build a home or set up a mobile home and dig a well and hit water in less then 10 feet! Con's would be small towns aren't for everybody, big yards equal big projects and up keeping. Crime isn't bad here but you can see a slight increase in homeless population due to Albuquerque bussing homeless people down here via the rail runner. If you are a rich person, who can afford to protect and secure of your stuff. If you are rich enough to work when you feel like it, or not alt all; or if you have no stuff at all; then this place is for you. I would not own a car there, unless I had a garage with security system and CCTV. If If visiting as a tourist, I would rent a cheap car, and get the high insurance coverage. I would stay outside the city. High crime means no jobs and or lots of drugs. Altitude, heat, and water shortage are also factors to consider. If you are fair skinned, this place is not for you, as you will have a huge chance of developing skin cancer by 55-60 or something. On the plus side, the scenery is desert beautiful.
