  • Join me to make an oxymel using bee balm or bergamot (one of several fragrant herbs of the genus Monarda). This oxymel is a herbal extraction using vinegar and raw honey. It has been used for centuries to help with issues related to the respiratory and digestive tract. It also has purported immune system-boosting properties. Time to prepare for cold and flu season!
Remember to be 100% sure of what you are eating for wild edibles and medicinals. When in doubt, throw it out! This video is intended for entertainment purposes only.
Remember, babies under 1 year of age should NEVER be given raw honey. Consult with your doctor or natural health care professional before trying any wild medicinal.

Thank you for this video. Please note that Earl Grey tea is made with bergamot oil from the citrus fruit bergamot, not the bee balm or monarda.

Ahhh! I never knew this! I had bee balm and it was so prolific- my neighbors hated theirs and I loved it so it came under the fence😂 It brought so many birds and hummingbird moths…so fun. Thanks for this! 😎🐾🐾❤️🥾🥾

Correct me if I am wrong but I think the bergamont that is used in earl Grey is from bergamont fruit, which is unrelated to the bergamont herb flower

That is awesome, Jen! I'd also read Bergamot was good for calming. Thanks for this. 👍😎🇨🇦🌱💮

How fascinating!! I had no clue that bee balm was bergamot! Also, I’ve always wondered…if vinegar is anti microbial and antibiotic, doesn’t it kill the good bacteria when mixed with honey? Same with putting honey in hot tea? Just curious! Also we planted bee balm a few weeks ago in our rabbit infested garden and they haven’t touched it. Score!!

Thank you for sharing your oxymel recipe, but a special thank you for the great advice to make sure that whatever herb one is being used to make an oxymel is safe for us to use.

So they leaves and flowers don’t need to be dried prior, right?

You can use either. If you use fresh plant material as I did, refrigerate the oxymel and use within 6 months.
