I would love to see a more in-depth version of this video.
WHY should we put rubble on our board after painting it? HOW to put grass on the board? HOW to mix sealant? etc.
Show us the grimdark city please! We horus heresy players need more inspiration! Also thanks for all that you do!
Oh lorddddddddddddy lord, you're about to get some inspiration alright ;) Strap in buddy.
@@ZorpazorpTY I LOVE YOU!
I've been a dabbler for years but at 53, now have a few more funds and a little more room to try more than just mini painting. Thank you for every video I've seen thus far, your techniques and delivery are so inspiring and encouraging. I'm tackling my first modular board squares and the 'large stuff first' might seem obvious to some, but I've been doing the reverse with the mindset of 'levelling'. Just this simple change has completely revitalised my boards. Thank you!
Another tip is keep your eyes open, objects and materials you see every day can be appropriated for terrain.
One of Eric’s other videos is an eldar city made from random junk shop plastic and it’s amazing how good it looks.
Also, don’t be afraid to use the things you have, if you have the perfect piece but you never use it, it’s no good to anyone.
Honestly since Luke retired from youtube I've been missing the technical stuff in terms of videos, this is a welcome addition
Glad you liked it mate, hopefully have some more scenic rich stuff coming soonish :) I miss Luke too.
The first tip about spreading gravel and what not after paint, works and doesnt work. Your boards you reference have such a vast difference in the amount of rock used, thats what creates such a different there.
My only addition to the tips is this; don’t be afraid to mess up!
So many times I tried to “save” Projekts after I had tried certain paint schemes or additions, or styles and found it wasn’t my taste. Instead of just learning from it and move on I kept hacking away in desperation and misery! It’s ok to give up on certain projects and move on if it doesn’t make you happy, life’s to short to be stuck in the Midgewater marsches!
i will admit i have listened to some of your videos just for motivation while working on a project
Hands down the best builder on YT, wild that you don't have 100k yet but by the end of the year I bet you will. Awesome video as usual and best SurfShark ad I've seen yet lmao.
Appreciate that mate :) :)
I love your work, and I can swear by the geek gaming scenics, they are excellent. Keep up the LOTR perfection, Zorpazorp
Glad you like them! Will do mate!
It’s crazy how this video is free!! You sold me at the sealant, I’ll definitely pick some up when I make my custom Star Wars legion board and warhammer killteam battle table! Keep up the good content 😎
Dude, I've been watching you for a couple months and had NO idea you worked in production design! That is so cool!
Unrelatedly, top-tier ad read.
Hahaha thanks mate :)
The is for the tips and the connection from surfshark to LOTR! Probably my favorite part!! Thank you!!!
Haha cheers mate :)
Twelve game-changing minutes of good advice. Many thanks.
For the tower, more dangling gibbets, mayhaps? 😀
With magnets, of course....
Sweet beans, that was nicely digestible tips video. Will be sure to keep this one saved for my terrain making
Glad it was helpful Big E
Bro I love your terrain videos so much they have taught me the skills and given me the confidence to build me own boards. But I have to say that you have an unsung knack for editing. Your battle reports are easily god tier, keeping my attention for a game I don't even ever plan to play for 2 straight hours. Those star wars reports knocked it out of the park
Love this, especially the doing stuff in stages tip and getting little parts finished to boost your dopamine. I take this approach a lot with painting as I often only get to steal 15-30 minutes to do it so making small goals goes a long way
I'd love to know what primer you use on foam that doesn't melt it and where to source it from. Thanks and keep up the awesome work!
Wow! information overload ! I'm going to have to watch this like 100 times to get all the tips and tricks. THANK YOU for sharing some of your techniques. This is gold! Cheers
How about adding a border round your board edges to protect the foam and leave a cleaner join?
I love the channel keep doing your thing baby!
great format! for those of us who already know how to glue and paint, introducing new materials without a tedious tutorial is perfect
Oh I never thought about it like that, glad you liked the format :)
Would like to see the grim dark painting tutorial using oil and enamel wash’s, oh great and powerful scenery making god
Hahahaha cheers Wolfey
Didn’t understand the alchool and sealant part, did I have to:
1) put the glue
2) put the material(rocks,dirt etc..)
3) put alchool on it.
4) quickly put the sealant.
5) wait to dry.
6) repeat some times.
Did I understand it right?
That's it mate, although to speed up drying time, add a step:
1) put the glue
2) put the material(rocks,dirt etc..)
//drying time//
3) put alcohol on it.
4) quickly put the sealant.
5) wait to dry.
6) repeat some times. // (just steps three and four) //
@@Zorpazorp perfect, thanks 😁😁
11:21 I feel like complimenting your terrain building is redundant at this point, but damn, your freehand skills are pretty awe-inspiring too
Thank you buddy
Night Shift makes great use of painted aggregate and flocks. They often look far more realistic than the neon green grass and monotone rubble shown in this video.
Pleaseeee keep going on the killteam board those videos were so awesome!
Very INSPIRING!!!!!! I had no idea your back ground was THAT EXTENSIVE!!!!!!! Pack ability and transportability unfortunately makes much of this regrettably hard for me to do. LOVE that you can afford the space for these MASSIVE BUILDS!!!!! I'd love to have an old barn I could just load up but alas I do not. You do AMAZING work Big Guy and thanks for all the knowledge!!!!!!:)
Schön wieder von dir zu hören
(nice to hear from you again)
Would like to see the video explaining more of the washes and also how you basecoat the terrain piece
Ah, the man, the myth, the legend. The Zorp himself!
Oh stop it! :D
Great tips dude - I completely agree with the natural texture thing. I used to paint over sand etc, but using natural materials as the final layer is easier and faster, as well as looking better!
Not really what I was looking for…… but I did find a few of them very useful and will be trying them the first chance I can!
Definitely some super helpful tips, thanks Zorpazorp!
Any time!
for baseing i have swaped over to outdoor paveing sand as you can get it in mass for cheep and becuse of how its formed the apacation of pla glue it will wet it self then harden into a extreem sticking argeret.
4:17- I’m sorry but I just have a quick (and possibly a noob) question….. but let’s just say I make my own sealant! PVA glue and matt varnish and I put it in a spray bottle. What is the life expectancy of what is left in that bottle? Can I make a big bottle of it and work off of that all year long or once I mix it I now have a running clock to use it all before it’s useless? And actually a side note question….. can you use gloss varnish also? Like if it was going over anything that is supposed to look like water or glass or mud? Or is there something in the gloss version that makes it not work?
Really enjoyed this one!
The only other thing you could mention would be colors? In terms of figuring out what works with what, properly painting using different shades or so.
Don’t know if that would fall under a tip or be something you have to figure out.
This video had two sponsors, surfshark but most importantly, geek gaming scenics xD
Yeah boyyyyyyyyyyy
Would love to see how you build the towers for osgileith especially the small domes
Amazing video as always - thank you very much!
My pleasure!
The Return of the King!!!
Fantastic video! Lots of great tips. Please release that 40K terrain oil wash video!
That sealant spray you made instead of the Geek gaming scenics one, what were the mix ratios with the PVA, water and Matt varnish?
Love this, I'm looking to dive into terrain and this gives some really good starting points!
Excellent advice. All golden, thank you. As always, massively inspired by your insane projects and boundless enthusiasm. Perhaps I'll actually design and build the 40k mausoleum/library terrain I've wanted to make.
Have you done any videos on design and layout? I think that's one of the big barriers for me. I don't want to spend months making something that's terrible for gaming and not sure how to design a modular set-up. If not, a design video would be much appreciated.
I build action figure dioramas and these tips are very useful to me as well. Great stuff!
Cool, thanks!
I did not want to believe - I lived in darkness - yet hark! Now I see! Now I have faith! (Ok #1 defo will be a game changer for me)
Great video man! Looking forward to that new Minas Tirith piece in the making.
Thanks for this! You always inspire, but I need to get more done!!
If you and Luke have a child together it would literally be an earth elemental
Definitely curious to see that grim dark video 🙂.
This was quite an inspiration video thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
You cant just bring up the grimdark painting tutorial and not release it! Lol no but for real, i would love to see that
Same! I want a grimey night time medieval city board
Damn Lachie, I ordered a ton of stuff from you on Anzac day and you posted it already, good stuff.
You are most welcome and thank you for the support :)
@@Zorpazorp i'll be hitting you up again for the finest of dirts and flocks i'm sure
I really appreciate this. Would be interested in the tips for painting models, in particular specific types ie the fellowship, orcs etc. I know you have the live streams but they are a tad long for an overview on say Gandalf the grey and that fool of a took. ;)
Thanks for the tips! Awesome work!
If you plan something out, make sure you write down the process ;) Even if you think you'll only do this type of building etc. once you might find you come back much later and then you're looking at the finished model trying to figure out what washes you used or colours, techniques etc. I have a notebook where I write it all down, from uniform colours to army lists and everything else. Many times I've put a large army build on hold only to come back to it and not know why the figures are in all these different bags and what's what...
My dude, this is a brilliant vid. Thanks!
Why have i not found this chanel before? I have two hobbies, modelrailroading and warhammer. haha
Great vidja! Also you've changed the channel logo?! Looks very slick
Also, I really liked your last tip - always get a hit of inspiration from your videos Lachy! Thanks again for everything
Hi I’ve been following u on TH-cam for a while and you’ve helped me with some terrain building questions. So thank you for that. I do have one question though, I’m trying to build the argonath and a game board for Amon hen. I’m using polystyrene for the board, but I’m having trouble sculpting the polystyrene into a shape I can fill with epoxy to serve as the River. Do u recommend using a heat gun to create a deep enough “ditch” or slope?
yeah I use a heat gun sometimes to melt foam away, otherwise carving, sanding and then filling back in with modelling compound to smooth it all out :) Check out my buckleberry ferry video where I did a resin pour river :)
@@Zorpazorp thank you so much as always for being generous with your time and sharing your knowledge. I’ll send you a completed picture of it when I get it all done! Gonna have to make a stop at the Zorpazorp shop to pick up some terrain materials!!!
S-tier thumbnail for this video lmaooo keep being you Zorp
Cheers Ben :)
You're definitely a scenery making God.
Wow, thank you
@@Zorpazorp No, thank you. Your work is inspirational, entertaining & you yourself are just an absolute gem in the community & world. Thanks a million, Zorpazorp.
Should i always seal static grass, it seems fine on my board with just glue underneath ?
IT will last longer mate, but up to you :)
Awesome stuff 2 watch, are there any inspirational art books that you would recommend for first time builders ?
Love this video been away from the hobby for a while came back and 1st place I come to is you never disappointed was exactly the inspiration I needed heard your coming to UK would love to meet you one day my favourite youtuber only half hour away from whw but tickets sold out unfortunately
I never understood why people would put dirt and gravel down, prime it and then try to paint it to look like dirt and gravel
Immensely helpful video! Thanks ZZ!
Glad it was helpful!
Should one paint sand or leve it.. As sand.. For a realistic look.. What's the best sand to use please please help me..
Bring the secret video to life please.
How do you get your foam. Thats been the hardest thing for me with making terrain
Que up your entire video playlist? Don't mind if I do!
Are there any ill effects to the board with using vodka over Isopropyl alcohol? Vodka looks like it might be cheaper... and more fun to drink.
excellent tips, concise & useful.
Glad it was helpful Ian! :)
How many square metres would all your boards make when combined?
I'll lay it all out one day to find out haha
@@Zorpazorp that will be fun😂
With the blurred image of other builders in the background I thought this was gonna be an introduction to 10 TH-cam terrain makers you were jokingly calling hacks
Hahahahaha it's me, I'm the hack.
(they're all me if that wasn't clear)
@@Zorpazorp Am I blind? Who could say. Lol
5:53- If that’s all you watch, wouldn’t it make way more sense just to buy the movies and then they can never take them away from you?!? Lol I know this is just a promo! I just think the thought behind it was kinda funny
Freaking amazing tips!
I am an Acrylic chicken and need guidance! Secret footage please!
Eric is the man. He sent me here.
No 11 MUST KNOW : Watch Zorpazorp
Were you at Warhammer World this week ?
Sure were! Hence the big quiet period haha
@@Zorpazorp Yeah, I saw you during the French Wargame Studio live th-cam.com/video/hTThByI4E8k/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=FrenchWargameStudio
That you at 3:51 on the right ?
excellent tips!!
Glad you like them!
Some very good tips. Would love to see the grim dark scenery so stop hiding the vid😂
Noted! Thanks mate :)
cheers love it!
TIL that one of the "small gods" is the God of Scenery Making. And GSM apparently has an Australian accent.
hahahahahahaha cheers mate ;)
you a David Alen's Getting things done worshipper? just something you mentioned in the get inspired section made me thing of that
I don't know it actually Liam!
If only Denethor had used a vpn while browsing the net with his palantir. Oh man. :D
hehehehehee
Do you have a recipe for your sealant Mr Zorp?
I use Geek Gaming Scenic Sealant mate :)
@@Zorpazorp but you referred to making your own as well in the video with pva, water and matte varnish. I just wanted to find out the ratios.
@@designatedcrafter Can't remember but if you check the Geonosis video I did the process in depth :)
@@Zorpazorp Thanks, pretty simple really. Oh, and that Geonosis video is very cool as well - heaps of techniques in there.
GIVE US THAT SCI-FI TUTORIAL
Doesn't the Isopropylalcohol destroy the paint job?
Not on scenery, you're spraying into aggregates anyway, not painted elements. On basing use a dropper bottle to keep it off the mini :)
@@Zorpazorp So on intersections like between rubble and painted rock faces (red Star Wars board) or painted strees (Minas Tirith) you just sprayed it "carelessly" all over?
@@Scartenable Sprayed it straight on no worries :) didn't do any damage to paint. It's getting soaked by sealant so quickly, it's not like it's sitting in an iso bath.
Que up the battle companies play list. Well OK 👍
Watch this so I can become a Pokemon Master! wait... I mean make decent terrain!
Nice Nice Nice
So basically the tips are: Spend money to buy base-ready rubble of different colors and aggregate, spend more money to buy 10 different kinds of flock, spend money on proper sealant glues on modeling compounds, spend money on plaster and rockmolds, spend money on inks and oilwashes and thinners;
Who could have known that all I need to level up my skills is to just put a lot more money into the hobby
Sorry painted rocks look like they're part of the model. Your real rocks look like you glued real rocks too your board. Everything else looks amazing. And then it looks like you glued rocks to it
Oh, i wanna get better! *watches video* oh, that shit costs a lot of money. Nvm I'll be sticking with cheap, ok-looking stuff for now.
Nothing wrong with that!
Give us the secret footage, you coward!
