I am amazed there are any early Camaros and Chevelle's left at all, in the 60's and early 70's at the dirt races in eastern South Dakota, Miller, Huron, Watertown, Aberdeen, on any Friday or Saturday night you could see a couple dozen on the track at the same time and most were big block cars.....nothing like it since, the sound was unreal.
@@oldhick9047 that's great! There's been a 1/2 mile dirt oval here in town since the 60s, so i grew up seeing a lot of excellent racing action! And it does bring back wonderful memories! I'm compiling photos of the cars and drivers In loved from my hometown track! That video is coming soon!

@ 2:22 the 66 Pontiac, my first car was a 66 Pontiac they were HUGE cars two of these side by side would make a 3 lane track into a 2 lane track but they were fast and agile for their size I never lost a drag race with mine with a 389.

My dad ran a Nova and an olds 442 back in the 80's and 90's when street stocks weren't just slower dirt late models. I liked watching them more than sprints in the early 2000's as a kid.
Awesome!👍 My dad ran a 74 Chevelle/Malibu in the Latemodel class in 1981, 82. That was before the Camaros were chopped up. I ran karts from 87-89 then jumped in a big ass 63 Buick Skylark and ran the strictly stock class at my local dirt track at the age of 15. We welded the gears in the rear end so it was a hillbilly posi. 😆 Original 3 speed on the column car so we made rods and torched holes in the floor for shifters. Looking back it was about as safe as a blind man crossing a highway at high noon.
1:18 Maynard Troyer. Renowned chassis builder and driver. Troyer Engineering lives on to this day! He once (and possibly still does) held the record for the number of flips, barrel and endo’s, in a crash at Daytona many years ago. Very wicked crash!
Yeah but tv did not do the wreck justice and tell the whole story he was quite injured after that wreck and spent many days in hospital it pretty much ended his chances in gn. But still went on to be a local mod hero in the ny area and car builder both dirt and asphalt

There’s an old race car driver I know still has a couple of those old stock cars, he told me if you raced one today ya probably get killed in it😂😂
