When a brother and sister (without knowing) kissing each other is somehow a lot more enjoyable than that of two strangers who just acquainted 24 hours ago is.
personally, attack of the clones was better. Edit: to give TLJ credit, Kylo Ren as a character and his conflict was pretty good. Just take Rey out and he is an awesome character.
I get that, but this scene was quite ridiculous. I remember whispering "what the f" to my friend when it happened. I don't think they meant it to look funny, but for me it did. Of course it's just my opinion, if you liked the scene then just ignore my whining.
My reaction of that scene is the same as when I saw Pennywise from the new IT dancing around without his head moving = WTF? And everyone in theatre including me went silence.
It was a really cool bit... Like leia is a Skywalker and she was NEVER seen using the force for more than sensing her relatives... that scene was an amazing way to play with audiences expectations and reminding them that she is incredibly powerful too
This movie is mostly just an elaborate way for the writers to to say "screw everything that was star wars, we're re-making it in our own image and using it as a vehicle to project our vision for society."

My biggest question is, how come it never occurred to someone before Admiral Holdo, to use hyperspace as a weapon? Imagine having thousands of guided missiles, fitted with hyperdrives and then launching them at your enemy, from light years away. You could complete obliterate an entire fleet of Star destroyers before they even knew what hit them. This is the biggest weapon in the universe and all they seem to use it for is chasing each other.

That's not how it works. Han explained how it works in A New Hope. If anything was hit during hyperspace travel, it would destroy the ship not the other way around.

They completely ruined Space combat. There is no reason now for why fighters equipped with hyper drives wouldn’t just continuously fly into enemy capital ships after how they did in the Last Jedi

They could have at least been able to make the script point out explicitly that ships with warping tech are prohibitively expensive and hard to come across for the small rebellious group, and meanwhile the Empire/First Order/Space Nazis have seemingly unlimited resources, and never thought about that "Holdo maneuver," obviously.

I hated how they built up Snoke to be some obviously powerful force user. (He was moving Rey around like she was a puppet and he had lightning force too) and then he was just killed off right away. I sure hope they atleast give some back story on Snoke in Episode 9, or that he somehow survived being cut in half. I mean his body looked like it had been through a lot so maybe he could have survived being cut in half... I mean, Darth Maul survived.

Honestly, I don’t know why so many people loved Rose. She literally sacrificed the safety of THE WHOLE RESISTANCE for a dude she has a crush on that was willing enough to save everyone for the expense of himself. Also, she could have killed both of them by crashing into his ship with hers so what was the point? There were troops on the ground walking besides the canon and everything and it doesn’t make sense that Rose and Finn weren’t attacked on their way back. Another thing, if Yoda is able to show up as some kind of ‘Force Ghost’ based on the only reason that he wanted to, then death shouldn’t be a threat to Jedis. There were a ton of contradictions in the film with the “if Luke dies no more Jedi” but why would it matter if the force just seems to choose who can use it? That’s also why it shouldn’t matter who’s Rey’s parents are if literally anyone could have the force if they are lucky. Are we going to start wondering who the stable boy’s parents are? Also, how did Rey even get of off the main First Order ship after the whole fight with Kylo Ren? Anyway, that was my rant, my whole family and everyone I know loved the film so I haven’t really been able to share my opinion without people immediately shoot it down because “It’s Star Wars” lmao
maryelizabethodonnel yeah, i understand that, i know that she is supposed to be a character that is meant to empower people. But my argument is that even if she is all those things, she still risked the lives of (probably) around 50-60 people for one person. Even Rose’s sister (who she obviously strives to be like) willingly sacrificed herself for the greater cause. I like the character traits of Rose that you listed, but, for me at least, the fact that the only reason she saved Finn was because she had a crush on him and decided that that was more important than the safety of the Resistance over powered her other good traits making me not like the character. Anyway, that’s just what I think. Thank you for responding, I kinda love debating and seeing the opinions and reasons of other people 😁
The original trilogy has just as many, if not more, senseless moments. Let's just enjoy the films for what they are: Engaging plots in a very interesting and loved universe.

The aimlessness of the director gets clear with Finns story line. He had no purpose in this film, so they send him out to a senseless mission, with an Asian chick just to appeal the Chinese market. It gets even worse, because this mission ultimalty leads to the failure of purple hair ladys plan. They brought the codebreaker to the empire, which uncloaked the transport vessels. All of this because purple hair lady wasn't talking to po. WHO WAS ACTIVLY ASKING! Jesus this movie makes no sense
She doesn't tell poe her plan because eveytime poe is around her in the movie he's either being overly assertive or full on flipping his shit. He's not the leader of the rebellion he's just another soilder and she'd owes him no explanation when he's acting like that. AND ON TOP OF THAT one of the big points of her refusal to communicate is the fact that he disobeyed orders and led most of the fleet on a suicide mission, a plot point they bring up multiple times. As for the Finn and rose story arc being pointless, there's a reason for that but I'm sure no one cares to here it anyway. It's disappointing How much blind hate people have thrown at this movie
I wasn't expecting her to have any plan at all. I found it even more disappointing when her super secret impossible-to-think plan she really didn't want to tell for some reasons was to use the escape shuttle... And why the fuck didn't they kamikaze the other smaller ships instead of letting them get blown up. Casino scene is there for the kids or a new Disney-World attraction. Anyway it was awful. This movie was a goddamn mess. At least it looks pretty.

Rey hitting people with a staff compared to Luke training in Dagobah with Yoda and Obi-Wan for an year. Really? She didn’t train at all and mastered jedi mindtricks in the first try, a skill that is very hard to learn for your ordinary jedi. And then she beat kylo in a duel, who was a skilled fighter who had over 10 years of training. TFA and TLJ took place in a time frame of about 1 month and in that period rey basically became a god without any training. If you try to say a 1 week in the islands with luke made rey master of the force you just must be dumb. I have no offence for the actors, most of them were great, but the writing of those movies was awful bc it pretty much destroyed the whole star wars saga
When Luke threw the saber over his shoulder, I was expecting a canned sound effect of a cat, or maybe glass shattering. The tone was so up and down it was scary. Avengers humour is being polite, more like cartoon humour.
ClandestineOstrich it’s mainly the love banter which brings it down, and a lame line here and there. But you can’t deny the scene in the opera house and aniken finding out about padme being pregnant were both brilliantly handled with no action. This shows what they could achieve with a writer helping Lucus instead of letting him do everything. Is the dialogue distracting? Yes but that doesn’t make it a bad film
But what about the fact that he failed to mention that they went to the casino planet to find the master codebreaker to break into the main ship? Or that Rey DID go through Jedi training on the island so the moving of the rocks was explained in the final bit? Everything else he mentioned was fairly supported though so he gets points for that at least.

im glad her parents turned out to be nobody important. Im not saying this was a good film, but some people just dont want to like something. The same people who complained about the force awakens being too predictable, complain about the last Jedi because it didn't end up being exactly what they predicted. They want surprises, but only the surprises they can predict.
Actually, it's the same thing where ghost obi wan could talk to luke. So it's not an new thing. It takes time to learn how to do it as yoda confirmed in ep3. Rey and kylo were only able to do it because it was Snoke doing it for them. So it's a old power that powerful patient ones were able to do.
I agree, I totally wouldn't mind if the whole movie focused on Kylo Ren and Rey. Every scene they had was electric and amazing. I loved the scene where Kylo kills Snoke and Rey grabs Anakin's lightsaber and they work together to fight Snoke's red guards. The whole theater cheered when that scene happened and so did I, it was amazing!

Pretty much agree with everything you said. I love Star Wars but was very disappointed. Too many “jokes”, irrelevant casino planet scene, hated how they portrayed Luke (not the Luke that we love at all), rey barely had any training, hated the milking the space walrus scene, Rose and Finn ehh, Princess Leia Superman her way back to ship? The most disappointing thing for me was snoke. I agree with all of your criticisms but snoke could have been the saving grace for this movie and franchise. He was set up as a legitimately great villain, possibly more powerful and ingenious than the emperor... has 2 minutes of screen time and dies the dumbest way possible. We didn’t even get a backstory for him, which for me anyways was the biggest cliff hanger of he last movie. It wasn't unnecessary at all. It meant to show the spectator what Finn thinks about the galaxy, and what Rose thinks about it. Then, the hacker shows us that there is no good or bad guy, as there is balance in the force.

Finn and Rose storyline is completely forced and by the end of the film it wasn't even necessary because that Purple Hair woman had a plan all along and could've spared the conflict and mutiny if she would've told Poe and everybody else the plan from the beginning.

My reaction of that scene is the same as when I saw Pennywise from the new IT dancing around without his head moving = WTF? And everyone in theatre including me went silence.
It was a really cool bit... Like leia is a Skywalker and she was NEVER seen using the force for more than sensing her relatives... that scene was an amazing way to play with audiences expectations and reminding them that she is incredibly powerful too

My biggest question is, how come it never occurred to someone before Admiral Holdo, to use hyperspace as a weapon? Imagine having thousands of guided missiles, fitted with hyperdrives and then launching them at your enemy, from light years away. You could complete obliterate an entire fleet of Star destroyers before they even knew what hit them. This is the biggest weapon in the universe and all they seem to use it for is chasing each other.

They could have at least been able to make the script point out explicitly that ships with warping tech are prohibitively expensive and hard to come across for the small rebellious group, and meanwhile the Empire/First Order/Space Nazis have seemingly unlimited resources, and never thought about that "Holdo maneuver," obviously.

I hated how they built up Snoke to be some obviously powerful force user. (He was moving Rey around like she was a puppet and he had lightning force too) and then he was just killed off right away. I sure hope they atleast give some back story on Snoke in Episode 9, or that he somehow survived being cut in half. I mean his body looked like it had been through a lot so maybe he could have survived being cut in half... I mean, Darth Maul survived.
Cvrson I don't know if they can do that.. if Kylo Ren botched killing Snoke that would just make his character seem even more incompetent and at least in my eyes they are already struggling to make Kylo Ren seem like a true threat to the resistance. I love Kylo Ren as a conflicted sith apprentice but a Sith Lord he is not. A seemingly formidable supreme leader of the first order he is not. I agree with your sentiment though. I too am a extremely disappointed with how they handled Snoke. I think they may need to invent a character to step forward in the next movie and forcefully take the reigns of the first order from Kylo Ren.

Honestly, I don’t know why so many people loved Rose. She literally sacrificed the safety of THE WHOLE RESISTANCE for a dude she has a crush on that was willing enough to save everyone for the expense of himself. Also, she could have killed both of them by crashing into his ship with hers so what was the point? There were troops on the ground walking besides the canon and everything and it doesn’t make sense that Rose and Finn weren’t attacked on their way back. Another thing, if Yoda is able to show up as some kind of ‘Force Ghost’ based on the only reason that he wanted to, then death shouldn’t be a threat to Jedis. There were a ton of contradictions in the film with the “if Luke dies no more Jedi” but why would it matter if the force just seems to choose who can use it? That’s also why it shouldn’t matter who’s Rey’s parents are if literally anyone could have the force if they are lucky. Are we going to start wondering who the stable boy’s parents are? Also, how did Rey even get of off the main First Order ship after the whole fight with Kylo Ren? Anyway, that was my rant, my whole family and everyone I know loved the film so I haven’t really been able to share my opinion without people immediately shoot it down because “It’s Star Wars” lmao

But my argument is that even if she is all those things, she still risked the lives of (probably) around 50-60 people for one person. Even Rose’s sister (who she obviously strives to be like) willingly sacrificed herself for the greater cause. I like the character traits of Rose that you listed, but, for me at least, the fact that the only reason she saved Finn was because she had a crush on him and decided that that was more important than the safety of the Resistance over powered her other good traits making me not like the character. Anyway, that’s just what I think. Thank you for responding, I kinda love debating and seeing the opinions and reasons of other people 😁

She doesn't tell poe her plan because eveytime poe is around her in the movie he's either being overly assertive or full on flipping his shit. He's not the leader of the rebellion he's just another soilder and she'd owes him no explanation when he's acting like that. AND ON TOP OF THAT one of the big points of her refusal to communicate is the fact that he disobeyed orders and led most of the fleet on a suicide mission, a plot point they bring up multiple times.
As for the Finn and rose story arc being pointless, there's a reason for that but I'm sure no one cares to here it anyway. It's disappointing How much blind hate people have thrown at this movie

Rey hitting people with a staff compared to Luke training in Dagobah with Yoda and Obi-Wan for an year. Really? She didn’t train at all and mastered jedi mindtricks in the first try, a skill that is very hard to learn for your ordinary jedi. And then she beat kylo in a duel, who was a skilled fighter who had over 10 years of training. TFA and TLJ took place in a time frame of about 1 month and in that period rey basically became a god without any training. If you try to say a 1 week in the islands with luke made rey master of the force you just must be dumb. I have no offence for the actors, most of them were great, but the writing of those movies was awful bc it pretty much destroyed the whole star wars saga

I agree, I totally wouldn't mind if the whole movie focused on Kylo Ren and Rey. Every scene they had was electric and amazing. I loved the scene where Kylo kills Snoke and Rey grabs Anakin's lightsaber and they work together to fight Snoke's red guards. The whole theater cheered when that scene happened and so did I, it was amazing!

Pretty much agree with everything you said. I love Star Wars but was very disappointed. Too many “jokes”, irrelevant casino planet scene, hated how they portrayed Luke (not the Luke that we love at all), rey barely had any training, hated the milking the space walrus scene, Rose and Finn ehh, Princess Leia Superman her way back to ship? I’m just disappointed.

The most disappointing thing for me was snoke. I agree with all of your criticisms but snoke could have been the saving grace for this movie and franchise. He was set up as a legitimately great villain, possibly more powerful and ingenious than the emperor... has 2 minutes of screen time and dies the dumbest way possible. We didn’t even get a backstory for him, which for me anyways was the biggest cliff hanger of he last movie.
Overall terrible plot, terrible characters, forced sjw bullshit, and too many wasted moments that fans of the originals have been hoping for, like Luke’s death.... an imaginary lightsaber battle that leads to him dissolving due to mental fatigue???! Wtf

It's so blatenly obvious on how she was the only one to survive the blast and "magically" make her way back to the ship from space. Unless you haven't watched the other movies and didn't realize Luke and Leia were siblings, then you chose a bad movie to start at.

It wasn't unnecessary at all. It meant to show the spectator what Finn thinks about the galaxy, and what Rose thinks about it. Then, the hacker shows us that there is no good or bad guy, as there is balance in the force.
