Yes... because singers like her brought too much of their own true voice, artistry and personality to "be made" in the modern sense of the term in the music industry.
Insane key she does it in. At the end, it changes into an entire whole step higher. This could be Dusty's most impressive live vocal ever. Sang it with her entire body (and in heels. Ha!). Lord knows, she had plenty of amazing live performances but this one could be the greatest in terms of range and difficulty, she nailed it big time.

The original was Italian and she jumped at the chance to record it in English but did not sing the song live until she did record it fearing another artist would get out an English version first. She just stood there and sang and looked beautiful...really the most powerful yet controlled and classy voices of her era...my own. Dusty made the best of her pained self, and gave the world her talent...OMG, she was soooo gifted.
Dusty indeed did the world a favor by carrying on despite circumstances and delivering the goods time after time on her endless recordings. Also, she traveled all over the globe delivering live performances that we are still able to see today thanks to You Tube. Had she known about You Tube, maybe she would have felt better about all the 2 minute performances she had to give over the years. She probably thought, "God, it takes me 4 hours to dress and get the wig and makeup right, all for a 3 minute performance that'll never be seen again." Ha! Those 3 minute clips have been viewed thousands and (a few of them) millions of times over. Think she'd be happy about that for the most part.

True.most of 'modern'. - I say this figuratively - 'singers' don't understand it's NOT how long, and how. LOUD,it's pacing, it's undersnding you want to build a song. They also don't know what melisma is (though they mightve heard it, they don't understand), note bending, and Ms Springfield loved when she did her hosting of T of the P, and met - and learnt from many legendary Motown Artists (many of whom started singing in church), and incorporated it into her work, her sound . Madeline Bell, the lead backup singer so to speak was also a great friend of Dusty's and a great gospel singer in her own right. Madeline Bell was a blessing to Dusty and continues to advocate for Dusty's memory. She continues to sing at England's "Dusty Day" every year to honor her friend. There are You Tube videos of her covering Dusty songs at Dusty Day. She'a amazing even now. Great singer.
