    Wow! Wasn't even close. No surprise really given the suspension, power and weight advantages. But the little Kawi is bombproof.

    This is a cool idea. I have been considering the klx to replace my xr250. Thought the yz250fx would fit that niche but it doesn't like technical, slow. XR250s were sooo good.

      My son has been running a 2015 WR250f for 9yrs. In the slow technical stuff. It does well, it’s uncorked with yz250f map.

      I will vouch for that. Had a YZ250FX and 3 KLX's. The YZ was plated but only comfortable riding wide open. If u were exploring or taking it easy it beat u up from stiff suspension and jerky throttle

      I rode a friend's XR250, the newest one they made................and yeah it was easy to ride.
      But my feet!
      Were so close to the ground, stumps and what ever could destroy a person riding this low rider. But a truly harmless bike...power softer than any marshmallow. Rev the piss out of it and it really doesnt go anywhere. But Im used to 2 strokes.

    Is the weight and suspension difference significant on that loop, at that speed?

    • @kcoutside7143

      The suspension on that terrain had little effect on the time, the limiting factor, for the KLX , although small, was the weight & bottom end power.

    You hit that creek bed allot harder with the KTM and allot quicker rip through the first part.

      I had a little more confidence in the forks on the KTM. Even at slower speed, the KLX took a harder hit in the ditch

    I am heavily considering a used crf 450 rl..... Originally I had my eyes on the klx 300 although I am worried I will be quite disappointed in the power... For trail riding like you have shown here, do you think the klx becomes underwhelming in these senario's? Given the ktm I feel like you would have a good perspective

    • @kcoutside7143

      If you have no issue spending the extra cash, I would definitely go 450rl. Your going have much more fun in the woods & you’ll have plenty of power on road to pass & to pull long uphills. With the 300’s , on long asphalt uphills, I’m maxed out holding 60-65mph.

    New KLX 250 owner here. Wondering if anyone can speak to the performance difference between the new 300 vs my 2019. Is the extra 50cc' with the 300 a night and day difference compared to my 250?

    • @bradsanders6954

      Check the weight on a dirt model KLX300. A shockingly heavy bike.
      Would never think it weighed that much looking at it.

    • @romand123

      The 250 has a decent amount of power/grunt and 300 just gives you a little bit more. It’s not night and day but it is noticeable. But you’d be able to keep up with 300’s on your 250 all day imo. The next power bracket to look at for future you would be something like the WR 450 😊

    Cool video but conclusion was obvious as soon as you mentioned it. In reality its good to compare but KTM’s are just a notch above when spirited woods riding is involved. But fun video to watch either way.

    You know how heavy these KLX's are? I do. More than my 690 weighs.
    Cheapest suspension to be had. Old, Old tech. I dont think a KLX beats a 350 KTM.
    One rider might beat another rider no matter what he rides.

  • @buzzardpilotgrodus2444

    I know the KTM is stronger, revs quicker, revs faster, is lighter, has better suspension. That might justify the initial cost difference but it doesn’t stop there. That 29 seconds per lap difference is going to be really expensive 500hrs from now if you must drink the orange kool-aid.

  • @davidtompkins1234

    That shouldn’t have been that close. The ktm is a race bike with a license plate and the klx is an actual dual sport.

    • @bradsanders6954

      The rider makes ALL the difference, if a person knows how to ride a KTM, obviously amazing speeds can be attained and all the bike asks is that you go faster. A KTM wakes up when hammered hard. Not even vaguely in the same class as a boat anchor KLX. Apples/oranges.
