Went to an auction today just north west of Grandrapids MI. Older restoration BN with incorrect seat sold for $4000, two old guys just kept going at it.
You made sound decisions. I carry a check with me. They charge too much around here for plastic. 3%. The Super MTA had 3 pretty big minuses. Tires, hitch and a rebuild. 205 needed some grease it sounded like to me. Good job. Nice 1086!
The SMTA went for plenty think that engine has seen it’s better days. That’s was for sure the main tractor on that place. You commented on the seat, there is a company out there that referbs them back to original a bit pricey but done nicely. The harvester just needed the carb cleaned.A can of berryman would fix it rite up. Nice little sale there. BOOM.
After suffering from cerebral flattus (put in 8 hrs loading & hauling manure today) & then reviewing my price guesstimates, I guess I didn't do too bad. I figured $7k for the SMTA & it went for $5100. That was a swing & a miss. Didn't know it had the hiccups & a pair of drag slicks on the back. Almost wonder if it wasn't running right because the distributor wasn't getting enough juice from an almost dead battery & that might not have been getting enough from the genny or alternator. The 4000 was a bunt. They bring about $4k - $4.5k around here in good shape. The 1086 was a good grounder that made it short to right field. My top end was $18K. A decent 1086 is bringing good money these days from collectors (really hate admitting it's collectable i.e. old) & people that are sick of buying factory fresh junk. The 205 did good. The results for those are usually all over the board. Same with the 203 when you find one. I like both & would have bid either up just to have one. The style doesn't do much for me, but the saddle tanks are what makes it cool. Also what gives it a low profile. Neat stuff! Now I'm going to hit the shower & the pillow. I'm so sore, my "OW!" hurts. :vD
Thank you for covering this auction. Went and checked stuff out the Friday before but went to another auction that was the same day. Guy had a little piece of paradise down there. Guess he was brother to the guy who has the flying w ranch right down the street and did the farming for the ranch. In my opinion the 1086 went for too much. Had a harder life than you think. Smoked pretty good and the 540 PTO stub was bent. PTO unit was taken out at one time. The yellow 303 hydraulic oil buckets they had along the lawn by the barn to keep people from parking in the grass was a big turn off. The gentlemans daughter kept the 686 and had it in the barn
That SMTA looked like it was repainted at some point as the original painted seemed to showing through on some spots and the axles where all red which is incorrect.
It was used as a working tractor. He was 92 almost 93 when he passed this fall. It wasn't listed as a show tractor or original paint. He raked and tedded hay with it.
that 2 that 205 has a 221 cid engine same engine used in the 460 farmall and you have to use either on one in cold weather my friend has to use either on his 560 gas from the time it was new
Not that it makes a lot of difference but I all but grew up in a Super MTA and the decals are backward. The “flag” goes to the back and circle is forward as installed at factory. We had a retro 3 point also. Thank you for your Chanel. Man does this bring back memories👍👍👍 As to detail reminds me of the miss painted 400 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️oh well😁

Just wondering did you remember the vin to that super mta. I've been trying to find one close in vin to the one me and my dad are restoring. We have the vin 66655. The closest we have found is within 12 digits. From iowa. Ik it was sold at the hartford iowa international dealer when new. Then my grandpa got it in the 80s as the second owner. It had a stuck engine but we have it torn apart. Im really into the history of searching the casting dates and such. I love the Wisconsin history stuff for farmalls.
Was at an auction in Michigan yesterday. A Nice condition (did need new tires) BN sold for $4,000. A nice super M with rebuilt engine (needed tires) sold for $6,000. Good day for the seller
My nephew’s late father-in-law rebuilt a super MTA with the wide front end. He used that in tractor pulls, and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t stock engine parts. Very stout tractor.
Hell I was up at 0500 waiting for this auction! Had cheeseburger and coffee money out for everyone! LOL!!!! That SMTA looks nice! Hope you get it! I pulled a 10 Ft brush hog with my Super M it did fine! Fenders are a must! That 205 looks good! I’m commenting as they come up! Next time we need to deploy snipers! I have a line on a w6 that claims to have a M&W 9 speed which i need to go see and drive to see if its true to have the 9 speed which if so has to be super rare ... and i thought there was no such thing ... As for the 1086 that was enough since i did not notice any weights or even dual wheels in the package ...
Good day Well, now we know.. The 1086 I thought went a real good price. M well you know you have 400 everything that M got. What did the Long go for? On April1 we had on line bid with 4000 ford, but it had small tires on back looked more like 2000, it went $3200. The combine was a 6 cyl. looked it up! Thanks
Speaking of parts for the Long tractor, in Canada they were sold as Universal. I have a small crawler that needed a lift pump about 5 years ago. Found a place in Saskatoon that still sold parts. The guy I dealt with over the phone sounded like he had come over from Romania with the last one they built. Anyways, he said he would ship it to me with the bill and I could mail him a check when I got it. I’m thinking, really? People still do that? Don’t see that kind of trust too often anymore.
Love your videos, you know a lot about farm equipment. Question? How do you make money farming and going to sales, buying equipment and still eat at the same time.
Watched the preview of the super M ta and notice that it did not have a power steering pump on left front corner of motor. No marks where bracket bolted on. West Ia. auction last week was $3800. Farmall 400 with power steering removed was $1300 . Next tractor in sale line. Smart move to stop bidding when you did.

You did good at stopping at 4500. After looking at it ..it needs tires, the fenders are wrong they're for a 460 and 560 the front grill is messed up .a good used one can bring 500 dollars. Or pay a body shop to straighten it. The three point I don't like. It's not original, should be a fast hitch. I would have stopped at 45 to 5000 ...tops..
I think you could have gone up to $1200 on the combine and still had some resale meat left on the bone Same with the best picker I think you could have gone up to $1000.But then again getting it back home and set up for resale and all the aggravation of people coming in to your place with no money but wanting something for nothing is a headache you didn't need. P.S That 310 baler while nice went top of the scale and then some. BTW I thought about coming up to this one but I don't have any of climb and repel mountain gear needed to get up there. It's God's country alright. He tried to give it away but nobody wanted it. Maybe he'll just let it come up for taxes. Still excellent work Farmall. Thank you.
@@FarmallFanatic Clearfield. About 80 miles from the auction. I see there's one coming up in DuBois 25 miles north on 5-1 Another 1086 and a pair of 1066's . BTW You are a professional auction pro. You know ahead of time the range and you refuse to get caught up in emotion driven bidding for no other reason than simply to win the bid... at any price.
@@FarmallFanatic Remember what they say: "A fool and his money are soon parted." BTW Long tractors (no relation) there is a place in Plymouth MN that has an inventory of parts for Long brand tractors but given the many foreign manufacturers who made tractors under the Long brand and other brands I wouldn't want one. It's like today where you don't know if you've get a John Deutz, a FreguSame or a Case Multinational.
Them auction companies need to get with the times & update their payment options. With the price of equipment these days, it doesn't pay to be a tightwad. Your nice, lengthy auction vid gets a boom, the auction company gets a fizzle.... or a pizzle. Lol!
Even if they would just pass the cost of the card machine onto the customer I wouldn't care it's all about the convenience of not having to carry $5000 or my chequebook around in my pocket
I call it a Brush Hog and the guys down South rake me over the coals. “Brush Hog” is the general term for those not made by Bush Hog. It’s like calling every landscape rake a “York Rake.”😝

I think you were smart to stick to your limit on the smta and not get caught up in the moment. I'm not a fan of an auctioneer bidding on someone else's behalf. Sort of a conflict of interest. It was likely legit... but I've seen auctioneers take shill bids and have to back pedal to the real bidder.

I went to that sale with the John Deere 4000. I knew what some of the prices were but I know who bought the discbine and it only brought 4000 which it was 8 to 10 years old. I thought I heard that the grain drill brought 1800. The New Holland 570 square baler brought 13000 which was the nicest thing there and brought the most money.
I really couldn't tell about the grain drill since it was covered up, but I assume it was nice.. and they would not have got that for $1800 if I was there.
@@FarmallFanatic I didn't hear that bid directly but I heard it from someone else. Most of the stuff didn't have the best care. The discbine even if he has to put a couple grand into it was still a good buy. Its a current model that sells for close to 25000 new. I wonder what the equipment brought at the sale in Sparty.
Mountain top? Are you kidding? Those are 460/560 fenders, and they will bolt right on to your H. That's a 6 cylinder in the combine. Those distributors like your H has are aftermarket. Originally it would have had a magneto. The bid over the phone is a common practice. It's called proxy bid. Super MTAs are not what I call rare as hen's teeth. Over 21000 were built. Only 3006 Super W-6TA tractors were built. That 1086 brought lots of money on one hand and not much on the other. 2900 hours is not much for one of those.
I liked that SMTA a lot...rare around here. I mean if a guy wanted to drive to Iowa, he could probably find a dozen or so for sale. Yea up on like a mountain...they call this out here "God's Country." A lot of city people buy camps and what not just to get away for the weekend, etc.
@@FarmallFanatic You'll find one not too far from you. Watch classified ads. Often you get better deals on private sales than you do at auctions. As someone who lives in fairly rough terrain and lives not too far away from the Rockies, I can't call that a mountain. We have hills that are much larger than that. A friend of mine has a tractor a farmer made by putting a TD-18 engine in a WD-40 tractor for farming rough terrain. They built that around 1950 when they couldn't buy a bigger wheel tractor at that time.
@@FarmallFanatic and youd have the 2 point. I’ve never heard of that done but it would cool. You should swap your h rear with your 300 so you have a hta

I said 4500 to 5500 but I didn't see the rear tires but then also didn't know about the 3pt hitch so they kinda equal themselves out and I am still sticking with that price! And I thought about 14k for the 86 w/o knowing The hrs (I was thinking around 5k to 6k hrs)and I think that's pretty Fair but if the hours were original 17 is a good price!. phone and internet bidding are the new way in the covid age, when i've bid online there is a buyers premium but in person there is not.
Thank you.
Where are you located?
@@FarmallFanatic Clearfield. About 80 miles from the auction. I see there's one coming up in DuBois 25 miles north on 5-1 Another 1086 and a pair of 1066's . BTW You are a professional auction pro. You know ahead of time the range and you refuse to get caught up in emotion driven bidding for no other reason than simply to win the bid... at any price.
@@robertlong7033 took years to learn to walk and NEVER pay above the money
@@FarmallFanatic Yer durned tootin'!
Top end prices are good for the seller👍🍺
Yep 👍
wow! 650 on the disks, thats crazy!
Agree
I call it a Brush Hog and the guys down South rake me over the coals. “Brush Hog” is the general term for those not made by Bush Hog. It’s like calling every landscape rake a “York Rake.”😝
Or all pop "Coke."
Thanks man
Bought 2 of those picker 15 years ago in London Ohio and halled them back to Tennessee. That was a real experience lol. That's why I cant go back to Ohio for life . Was just glade to get home with out going to jail. Lol thanks for the video
TriGreen or CHE.?
Tri green
Those fenders on the SMTA look like 560 fenders
They are
We just bought a farmalll cub did not run first 10 mins clean carb new points it a 1947 the first year made
I think you were smart to stick to your limit on the smta and not get caught up in the moment. I'm not a fan of an auctioneer bidding on someone else's behalf. Sort of a conflict of interest. It was likely legit... but I've seen auctioneers take shill bids and have to back pedal to the real bidder.
Happy Easter bud
You too man
Looks like you have the same problem I do at auctions, someone else usually likes what I do, but better most of the time.
I'm fine with that lol
Definitely helps to save money lol
Yep
Earl Shrive paint job on the 1086
That 2260 was a bit too Long for my liking
You shoulda bought it for $5100 phone bidder has freight cost bet 5k was his limit
2 new tires now I'm 6500 into it
They didn't consider the price of new tires
What don't you like about a delco over international distributor
The Delco gets in the way of the sheet metal n the International is horizontal
That would have been 6k in central PA easily
Good luck finding parts for the combine
Need to find 2 or 3 other ones just for parts
@@FarmallFanatic Berg in zelinople may have something
@@FarmallFanatic win Garda in Ohio might also
I know of several places that have parts & a couple warehouses for NOS parts.
What would it cost for new rear skins on MTA.
1500 all day
Smta is gonna go high with them 460/560 fenders.
Lol
Nice auction.yup stole those disc's.
The bandit farmer has a long tractor
Ummmm they wouldn't let you transfer funds over the internet ????
Nope
@@FarmallFanatic True,,, I live on the east cost of Australia ,, I dont know a private person with a Cheque Account ,, for starters they are expensive ,, if I buy something from the local Facebook Market Place I often transfer funds direct into their bank acc. via the PC,, ,, Keep up the good work, I enjoy your channel ,
That's too much for the farmall, I have a super m, wide front. Great tractor but not five grand worth!
What are your average out of the field farmall 806 going for these days?
7 to 9k
"Just set me free, home sweet home" lol Wierd they didn't accept credit cards...
Especially since they could have passed the cost on to the buyers. Laziness if you ask me.
Anyone know the price of a Super Mta when it was brand new?
Super M went for 2500 bucks...add a T/A may 3 to 3.5k
The grain drill went $3900. The JD disks we're $1800
My grandpa has a wide front super M-ta
Nice
Nice video. You should just buy a 450 and put mta tin on it.
Why not? Everyone else does
@@FarmallFanatic and youd have the 2 point. I’ve never heard of that done but it would cool. You should swap your h rear with your 300 so you have a hta
Lol
I like the homemade Super HTAs.
I would have paid you and bought it if you would have got that 205 i would have paid 1500 but i just could not get to this auction
I was definitely gonna bid on it until I found out I had a 2 hour drive to get checks. I may be able to get you the information of the guy that bought it.
@@FarmallFanatic thank you i understand
I have never heard of a auction that does not accept cards i have been going to auctions 20 years never heard of that
Thank you i would like that info if you can get it for me thank you
$900 for the 205? You could get that in scrap out of it.
So buy it cut it up and haul it just for what you bought it for? It's a collectable, but like I said in the video...too far for checks
@@FarmallFanatic LOL, what i meant was its a shame its not worth more. Clean machine.
Yea I know...farming has become huge corporations that are government funded...sad
We have a 201 swather
Not a bad price on the Mta..what happened to the grain drill.?
$400
A lot of people are internet buying
That wasn't even Internet it was some bogus phone call. This auction did not have Internet bidding
I would not give more than$1500
Great auction!
👍
Shows what this jd guy knows about case Ih wrong on both tractor's 🤪😂
Best played at 2X speed....lol
I thought it was 2.5Xs...I'll have to slow it down some 😯
I said 4500 to 5500 but I didn't see the rear tires but then also didn't know about the 3pt hitch so they kinda equal themselves out and I am still sticking with that price! And I thought about 14k for the 86 w/o knowing The hrs (I was thinking around 5k to 6k hrs)and I think that's pretty Fair but if the hours were original 17 is a good price!. Good choice on the mta 5100 is a pretty odd number for a phone bidder to bow out so chances are he was willing to go alot more
I'm pretty new at this but that taking a bid over the phone doesn't sound right. Hmm🤔
