  • In this video, we share our experience staying at the Lodge at Walkulla Springs State Park, located around 15 miles south of Tallahassee in the Florida Panhandle. The area has been a tourist destination since the 1930s, when The Lodge was built by businessman Edward Ball. The art deco style takes visitors back decades with the decadent marble floors and wooden interior. The original elevator is still in operation! The Wakulla Boat Tour is less than $10 and is so much fun. The untouched beauty of the springs offers all kinds of birds and plenty of gators. We even saw a manatee from a distance. We also take a bike ride along the Tallahassee-St. Marks Historic Railroad State Trail. The 16-mile path runs to the small fishing village of St. Marks, which surprised us with historical markers, buildings and the San Marcos de Apalache historic State Park, which displays pottery and tools unearthed near the original fort. Interpretive displays explain the history of the San Marcos site. A video recounts the days of the Spanish, English, American and Confederate forces that once occupied this site. Unfortunately, the museum was closed when we were there. We will be back!
