This is so cool!!! thank you for doing this. btw, just fyi, with the re-recordings Taylor brought all of her band who recorded the Fearless album in 2008, back to record the re-recording. some of them have actually been with her ever since the beginning like Amos Heller and Paul Sidoti. that made me want more of you reacting to Taylor's other work like folklore and evermore! because these albums are considered some of her best ever.
Is there a chance you'll be willing to do more Taylor reactions? cause her recent albums are way more mature and less pop. her singles are usually the worst songs on her albums. her deep cuts are much better.
LOVE this kind of analysis. If you're ever worried that you're nerding out too much about the tiny little details when you're recording this don't worry, there are fans like me that eat it up!
what a great video! By far my favourite you have done so far. Giving the video the breathing room to include more discussion, even if I don't "get" all of it, feels much more natural and more like the 'friends talking' vibe I love of this channel
Thankful to find a channel geared towards a wide audience that isn't afraid to go deep in the music theory weeds. To those of us who know music theory well, it's a very satisfying way to break down a song.
In line with what you are all saying about Taylor's re-recording offering a more adult view of love, Taylor's core audience (assuming it's made up of mostly people in her age range) has matured right along with her, so this audience is listening from the more grown up perspective that Taylor is bringing to new re-recorded songs. Once again, she is connecting with her audience, this time through the perspective of nostalgia, and by singing through the lens of more experience with the wonder and pain of love.
Never enjoyed Taylor Swift's work, never took the time to discover it, but LOVED your session !! Love the way she takes back her own compositions and re-build her career alone and stronger than ever. Kudos to her ! Thanks for bringing more than just musical opinions, it's great ! Take care.
Such a fun reaction with Theo getting so hyped and Jake and Ryan debating over the pre chorus, didn't understand half of what you were saying for that bit. I feel like my understanding of the different elements of songs, music production and musical terms is slowly building with each video you release and giving me a greater appreciation of the songs I listen to in my own time so thanks for that! Was so cool hearing the different sections of both versions back to back to highlight the differences, what a great artist she is. Would love to hear you break down some music from twenty one pilots
My first time seeing your channel and I love it! Such wonderful discussions and I'm a huge taylor fan which is what brought me here so I would love to see you guys reacting/ dissecting more from her. I would've loved to see what you all thought about the key change in the final chorus but great video!
I'm in my seventies, and I have never seen anyone like Taylor Swift. I was 12 when the Beatles came around, and it was huge. But Taylor is already one of the biggest stars ever. She is a phenomenal woman with multiple talents and interests. She is so special. She is the brightest star on the planet. 🎉
Since y’all said you only know the singles, would you ever do a full album reaction? Maybe before the re-recording of red and speak now come out you can react to the old versions. It may not be possible logistically because there’s 4 of you and you analyze not just react but it’s just a thought because it’s sort of become a meme in the swiftie fandom that she always chooses the least impressive but still amazing songs for singles so reacting to those would be cool. Or maybe just the 3 most streamed non singles from each album would be cool.
Hello, long long loooong time swiftie here. I thought I'd share some background on how Taylor came to write Love Story. Basically, she wrote this song when she was 18 after she brought a guy she liked home to meet her parents and they disapproved of him. She was so upset that she compared the situation to Romeo and Juliet only instead of writing her story into a tragedy, she wrote it with a happy ending. She wrote the song on her bedroom floor in 20 minutes. Basically, the song has always been rebellious. Originally the song was written to stick it to her parents and now the song is one to stick it to her old label. It's still one of her top selling singles to date. It was really awesome to hear you guys talk about the song in such depth. You guys earned a subscription from me! I'm going to go watch your other videos now!
What a great conversation. I love the greater analysis that you bring in contrast to the usual reaction shtick. The chat about motifs has a real parallel to the trad Scottish and Irish music world where chord choices and substitutions can make a huge difference to the feel of a tune.
would you do Red? All Too Well, Begin Again, Treacherous (when Tay’s version is out) and also Cornelia Street and august and tolerate it omg do her entire catalogue is what I’m basically saying i am just geeking out about this
I really enjoyed this discussion and my God, Theo's voice (will need to check put his band)... Thank you to the hosts for being so professional and lovely. I would personally love more Taylor Swift content, specifically maybe diving into folklore and evermore, her newest albums. They are exquisite.
Taylor NEVER actually ask us swifties to buy the Taylor's Version. It's the swifties themselves who rally up to support her coz we just freaking love her so much to the point whatever she put out, we WILL consume it 😊😊😊 + she truly make it worth our money by adding songs from the vault..
Jack, Awesome sauce man. A few thoughts since there is alot here already. I love the cut aways where you explain, I would guess the majority of viewers have interest in music but not the vocabulary or theory. If not a cut away, then the odd quick explanation for why the "4 over the dominant chord" is good/bad/whatever. I have loved that you pick interesting songs (September!! Wow, had no idea what was in that) so assume you will keep doing that. What about a series of episodes where you compare eras (80's vs. 90s) and explain not only the style and or composition changes but the recording techniques that came onto the scene (like analog vs digital). Also, you could track a band and it's growth through their career (U2? or even something like Ed Sheeren "A Team" to "Bad Habits"). I think you could explain production and song writing to us under these themes!!
If you haven't heard that much of her records you could do a reaction to her most recent albums folklore and evermore or to her best (in my opinion) Reputation, which has more production.
This new series is awesome, and I loved all the different dimensions of musical comparison in this one especially. I also love how you take the time to explain things like "chasing the demo" and concepts in music theory and production.I have a degree in music and still appreciate the explanations at times, it makes the show so much more accessible to those who aren't as musically trained! ! You should consider reacting to "Freedom" or "I Need You" by Jon Batiste !
my new favorite channel. I can listen you guys argue or talk about music all day. Taylor, the queen of the quill. I only gotten into Taylor after folklore and now realized i've been missing out. I also watched your reaction to Olivia Rodrigo's singles. would love to see you react more to her Sour album.
Not popular opinion, but i think most artists, bands should have that kind of remasters of their old stuff, bc musicians and singers change over the years, experiences gets richier, obviously, technology is better. Those Tyler Versions are great example of that, its sounds very cool, tasty, sounds like music has texture in it.
there’s something so beautiful about 31y old taylor singing songs 18y old taylor wrote about being young and looking for true love, not specifically talking ab love story but it’s as if in the original recordings she’s dreaming about having a fairytale ending and in taylor’s version she’s looking back at those thoughts after having found the true love she dreamed of having when younger
I absolutely love these reaction videos!! As someone who listens to music her whole life, I learn a lot of new things about composition and other concepts. It makes me listen to songs differently. If I can make a suggestion I would like to see you react to Panic! at the Disco (maybe old vs. new albums?) or My Chemical Romance.
Please thank Kelly Clarkson for the suggestion for Taylor to re-record her old albums! My favorite is "Speak Now", so I can't wait to hear Taylor's version of that album!
This whole format points the way to how education can change for the better. I started to compare this to my Music 101 class in college. Old outdated classroom set up and a professor with low enthusiasm. Versus all the energy and love of craft apparent with all of you. You could be discussing Mary had a little lamb and I would want to pay attention. Your side explanations are awesome. I have learned more about music production than I thought possible. Screw overpriced worthless college classes. This is real teaching. Thank you and keep producing.
You should react to Taylor swift making of reputation, so you could see how she makes her incredible songs! Or to her folklore long pond studio sessions, that is where she explained each song on her album folklore which was a major storytelling album. LOVE THIS VIDEO BTW!!
I like to hear the geek-out on the structure. I just think if you break it back down to only her and the guitar it’s much simpler. That being said- as she’s matured, her song structures and patterns have become even more complex, and the artful way in which she weaves the pieces together- is at this point, fucking masterful.
Her birthday is in December. So, she was 18 when it came out. But she was 16 when she wrote it. Ps: her singles are usually not "it" by the way. The album tracks are consistently wayyyyy better, and I mean wayyyyyy better.... like there's no comparison between ME!(don't even ask us why tf did she do that) & cruel summer or Afterglow. Also, she has an entirely self-written album. So, yeah she writes her stuff herself. Edit: oh, you mentioned her birthday.
please listen to more of her songs!! i loved watching this episode, and i think folklore & evermore are really great choices (or honestly her entire discography haha)
Ah, motif talk. Reminds me of the composer Leonard Bernstein talking about music as language. The melody is the noun - let's say, Taylor. The rhythm is the verb - let's say, Taylor loves. The harmony is the adverb. Then the chorus with its persistent melody motif over different chords tells us: Taylor loves (I). Taylor loves intensely (V). Taylor loves bitterly (vi). Taylor loves tenderly (IV). Taylor loves intensely (V). Taylor loves (I). My interpretations, of course. You may hear something different. But something just as linguistically coherent, I'm sure.
This was incredible! Now that you guys have covered some early taylor it would be awesome to see you react to something more recent like folklore or evermore to really see her evolution as a writer :)))
Okay... Theo got me excited about Taylor Swift! Ryan's cynical jokes are amazing and balanced perfectly by Arianna's steadfast demeanor and spot on commentary. Jack always has enthusiasm and crazy behind the scenes knowledge. What are great episode! As a June 13th birthday... I approve!
one of my favourite changes between the original version and taylor's version of love story is there's a little guitar slide (i think that's the right word?) right before the key change in taylor's version that wasn't there in the original. it makes the key change ten times better and never fails to give me goosebumps.
taylor is the ultimate boss. so powerful, so clever, so very talented. btw so crazy that you mentioned shania, she did a tik tok joking about it today lmao

Taylor is an icon of our generation. Only artist that I have both a romantic and musical crush on…that I’d never want to face off in a disagreement. 🥰😳
In your cutaway where you are explaining the motif of repeating a pattern over a chord progression. I've heard that it is called a cliché. They are found everywhere in songs. When ever I hear one in a song I always appreciate the beauty of it. She connected two of them together. She knows how to write songs.
Taylor swift has become my personal hero since she smashed Apple musics ideology to give music out music for free ..with one single tweet!!! I am almost 50 now, but: If I ever meet her, I just bow and kiss her ring. Like you do with the pope ;-)
Nope, not in B Minor. It's just a deceptive cadence - resolving the V to vi. Also, in Hey Jude that G dominant chord with the 4 on top is just an 11 extension of the chord, I think. Doesn't that make more sense? I guess in Taylor's song the melody note is just suspended, or a passing tone back down to the major 3rd. Loving your videos guys!
Ooh, do Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus, they too have recently re recorded it for similar reasons (so they own their own masters and have stems which were deleted). It'd be interesting to hear your thoughts, they totally nailed it in some ways and there are other things which are noticeably different. And some interesting points in the rock/hip hop mix. Could compare the relative success of the re recording to this Taylor Swift track. As ever, great vid guys 😊

What Taylor does is extremely difficult but she makes it sound simple. She'll be respected in due time.
I think it’s safe to say she’s respected 🧐😅
I’m loving this sort of analysis and discussion. I wanna see more esp Taylor ones.
This is quickly becoming my favorite channel. Geeking on every type of song is soooooo awesome!! Thank you for this content!!!
You guys gotta hear her Wildest Dreams (Taylor's Version) released just hours ago.
Theo's "Modern Johnny Sings" was the masterpiece of last year and NEEDS a professional reaction!!!
sure she is - i gather you were in a coma for at least 50-60 years...
She was so dramatic 😂
@@kristelpi652 yea right? So extra hahaha 🤣😅🥰
You guys were wondering how old she was She was 18 when the song came out but she said she wrote it when she was 16
This is my first time listening to Professional Musicians React . I love this type of analysis. I subscribed immediately.
What a great conversation. I love the greater analysis that you bring in contrast to the usual reaction shtick. The chat about motifs has a real parallel to the trad Scottish and Irish music world where chord choices and substitutions can make a huge difference to the feel of a tune.
Best video yet!!! Keep this direction - love how specific you guys are getting here!
would you do Red? All Too Well, Begin Again, Treacherous (when Tay’s version is out) and also Cornelia Street and august and tolerate it omg do her entire catalogue is what I’m basically saying i am just geeking out about this
Best episode yet! I would have been curious how the modulation to E in the final chorus sounds in both versions.
I really enjoyed this discussion and my God, Theo's voice (will need to check put his band)... Thank you to the hosts for being so professional and lovely. I would personally love more Taylor Swift content, specifically maybe diving into folklore and evermore, her newest albums. They are exquisite.
Vulfpeck is amazing, and if you aren't a funk person Theo's solo albums are great too
Indie music has been around for decades, if you just discovered your problem...
Taylor NEVER actually ask us swifties to buy the Taylor's Version. It's the swifties themselves who rally up to support her coz we just freaking love her so much to the point whatever she put out, we WILL consume it 😊😊😊
+ she truly make it worth our money by adding songs from the vault..
Loved the format and the extra deep dive on this one! Great job and thanks for these!
Okay I’ve been waiting for a Taylor reaction for so long thank you but please do more of her stuff
my new favorite channel.
Theo's level of hype is just infectious
I love how my dude is just open and vulnerable with how this music is affecting him! Thank you bro
there’s something so beautiful about 31y old taylor singing songs 18y old taylor wrote about being young and looking for true love, not specifically talking ab love story but it’s as if in the original recordings she’s dreaming about having a fairytale ending and in taylor’s version she’s looking back at those thoughts after having found the true love she dreamed of having when younger
Not a Taylor Swift fan, but you guys make everything so interesting and fun. 20:25 Ryan had me cracking up!!
First time I heard 15 my jaw dropped. The line ''When you're 15 somebody tells you they love you you're gunna believe it'' is powerful.
That was an awesome video guys. Thank you. I love how you breakdown the definition of some of the detailed musical information . Cheers.
You guys (being professional musicians) bring something different to the reaction scene on TH-cam! Please do more :)
Nice to hear you give Taylor the kudos she deserves. Fun episode.
Please thank Kelly Clarkson for the suggestion for Taylor to re-record her old albums! My favorite is "Speak Now", so I can't wait to hear Taylor's version of that album!
I'm pretty sure she already thought about that, before Kelly mentioned it
listening to your point of view as musicians made me more excited for the next re-recordings! love the video so much.
That was awesome. Great analysis, loved all aspects of it. I’m gonna go look and see if you’ve got more Taylor now…
This whole format points the way to how education can change for the better.
Yo when you guys did the whole song (old vs. tswift ver) i got massive chills. It's like she's singing together with her younger self :(
You are awesome guys! Thank you for this great talk!
Man I can't wait to meet Theo one day...
Also get Stratton on, that'll be tons of fun
You should react to Taylor swift making of reputation, so you could see how she makes her incredible songs! Or to her folklore long pond studio sessions, that is where she explained each song on her album folklore which was a major storytelling album. LOVE THIS VIDEO BTW!!
The long pond documentary is soooo good
Just the fact that she did this new version shows how awesome she is. Thank you so very much Ms. Swift!⚘️❤️⚘️❤️
I like to hear the geek-out on the structure. I just think if you break it back down to only her and the guitar it’s much simpler. That being said-
as she’s matured, her song structures and patterns have become even more complex, and the artful way in which she weaves the pieces together- is at this point, fucking masterful.
you're insane.
pleaaaase do an episode on Bjork, i think she's so interesting
I second this!!
If you want to cry to a Taylor Swift song, listen to August or All Too Well
It’s so cool to see you guys celebrate her greatness!! I loved this!
For real, her singles don't even get in my top 50 of her songs probably. Her albums are full of hidden gems, especially as a songwriter.
please listen to more of her songs!! i loved watching this episode, and i think folklore & evermore are really great choices (or honestly her entire discography haha)
whoa, i just realized Arianna Powell is the same lead guitarist in Olivia Rodrigo's tiny desk concert. Her guitar playing sounds so good!
Never really considered myself a Swiftie but how did they not know the favorite number question??
This was incredible! Now that you guys have covered some early taylor it would be awesome to see you react to something more recent like folklore or evermore to really see her evolution as a writer :)))
We'd love to see more Taylor content from this channel 💓
I approve!
one of my favourite changes between the original version and taylor's version of love story is there's a little guitar slide (i think that's the right word?) right before the key change in taylor's version that wasn't there in the original. it makes the key change ten times better and never fails to give me goosebumps.
i don't know why but this is the best reaction to Taylor I've ever seen. I so love this
I love this! The only downside about this channel is that I have been here from the beginning, so I can´t just binge a bunch of episodes.
Loving these videos guys… keep it up!! Would love to see ye break down some classic Freddie and Queen, live track maybe??
taylor is the ultimate boss. so powerful, so clever, so very talented.
btw so crazy that you mentioned shania, she did a tik tok joking about it today lmao
omg i love this reaction, i hope you can do more taylor!!! 🥺 i feel like you’d really enjoy folklore and evermore.
loved this!! tho i couldn't understand most of ur technical talkings, it was fun watching😅. you guys have to react to wildest dreams taylor's version, her latest re-release.
Love these videos!! A reaction to the new Yebba record would be cool
I am almost 50 now, but:
If I ever meet her, I just bow and kiss her ring. Like you do with the pope ;-)
This whole video gave me chills. Thank you som much for doing this series.
omg i love this!!! please do more of taylor :)
I loved this video ❣️ tnxu guys
i would love for you to do more of taylors song especially from folklore or evermore, her latest albums
My favourite artist ever! I confess I was anxious about which song you'd choose. But this is perfect!
