Taylor is super-duper talented. I appreciate such artists, those who can play their songs by themselves, on a small stage somewhere, their muse just hanging out in the aether.
she’s one of the few mainstream artists whose talent completely matches her success. she deserves every bit of success she has, if not more. a true musician🥺
Yes she is one of the few. She can sing, play an instrument and write songs. Avril Lavigne, James Taylor, Billy Joel, Carrie Underwood are some of the few. So is Luke Bryan and Brad Paisley
i love how eloquently and thorough she is when talking us through her songs and writing process. i could listen to her talk forever. such a gifted and wonderful woman.
once you take out all the things the internet says about her, you’ll realize that taylor is a really good songwriter and artist. She doesn’t deserve all the mean things they say about her

She's also the only artist of this generation to be in Rolling Stone's list of "100 greatest sobgwriters of all time". U seem to be ignorant rn
One of the greatest songwriters in our generation if you ask me! She can play instruments and sing... She have the whole package and deserve every sucess she's having!
It’s hard to imagine that a singer who performs in stadium tours can be so humble and never forgets where she comes from. She’s down to earth, and her songs still sound good without all the pop instruments and effects. Along with Adele, they are one of the very few artists that can achieve that. Taylor should really make an acoustic album Edit: I’ve been a swiftie for so long I know that she had acoustic albums, I meant that she should make an acoustic album for her songs in her pop era (deluxe versions are not enough! Though I bought almost all of them)
I may not have seen too many of these but all the ones I have seen are main artists singing with two or three people on the instruments and she went it there alone just her singing songs she wrote, playing instruments and connecting with an audience. Just showcases all her talent fr.
Because in 2010s era there is no talent like mariah whitney celine selena quintanilla toni braxton madonna janet jackson sheryl crow jewel alanis morisette lisa loeb anne lenox tori amos sarah mclachlan mary j blidge aaliyah lauryn hill sade siniead o.connor brandy monica nathalie imbruglia shania twain martina mcbride faith hill lean rimes.. Too much talent from previous era already gone in 2010s era, thats why
@@mandyno5328 Mariah had only 5 grammys. I love her so much been to her concerts several times but Grammys is not about vocals. Mariah has one of the best catalogues in the industry but she had made albums with lesser quality in the early 2000s and early 2010s. If grammys is all about vocals, she would have won more than 30. Nevertheless, music talent is not all about vocals. Both women are talented.
I’m an older gal but whenever I listen to her songs, boy can she stir up those feelings, some forgotten, some remembered, some happy & sad. Such an amazing, talented artist to be able to connect with so many people traversing this life journey. When she presents her creativity in such a pared down, vulnerable raw & simple way, it’s just the best. She’s a gift to us all. 🩷
I’m a 49 year old Rock n roll fan but after watching Taylor over the last 14 years I have to say she’s absolutely amazing and deserves all the respect and recognition for her music which always hits you straight in your heart & soul. Truly what a talented artist and singer songwriter she’s become. Taylor is now a phenomenon and I am happy to admit I love Taylor and her work ethic is awesome. Love love love her. She can make me smile and cry in just one song. She’s Wonderful for everyone who loves her music and even if u don’t like her style you can’t knock her amazing talent and her consistent songs that get better & better. She is gorgeous talented and very intelligent which makes her even more likeable. The nostalgic feeling from her music is so infectious ✌️♥️✌️
Same here. Poetry has long been a vehicle to reach our innermost emotions, the common threads of our humanity. Taylor doesn't write songs, she crafts poetry and puts it to music, and she goes right to the heart. I'm also an older fan, but when I listen to her music (every day, lol) my heart is 100% engaged. ❤
I've been listening to this song since 2012, and I only got to imagine the whole story of the song from start to finish; to digest it all and view its structure. It is a masterpiece of hers. It must be sad for her to sing this when she does, but she captured a moment in her life that only she herself knows to heart.
I feel so embarrassed. I've never gone to a concert of her even though I love her personality and music so much. I used to have friends who teased me about liking her but I don't care. Why do men and boys have to dislike artists like Taylor? People are always surprised when they find out that I am listening to Taylor. Tbh, she is more of a friend to me than many people who I used to be friend with.
I am 100% shameless about my open and public confessions of being a huge monstrous Taylor Swift fan. I am not even embarrassed to play her music out loud around people that know I love hip-hop and 80s music and everything else
@@greglautz8470 Why must we hide our appreciation for an artist that has impacted our lives in so many different ways ? It just seems so childish to judge someone based on the artist that they like just because they have bad and big reputation in the media.
She was so famous here, imagine if she saw a crystal ball to see into now? (4 years later) she couldn’t even perform at a tiny desk now the crowds would be unmanageable! I’ve loved her since 2006, she’s been on this journey for so long!! What a class act
I just became a fan of hers in 2020 with Folklore & Evermore, and have realized how much I was missing out on. Now I’m watching and listening to all of her stuff. Her lyrics are wonderful, she’s really talented.
if you haven’t listened to it yet, i highly recommend listening to the “RED” album, it’s one of her best written albums along with folklore and evermore (and most of the songs there were written just by her👀)
Achingly beautiful is the best way I can find to describe how I feel about folklore and evermore so far......... thanks random fella cruising the internet..
This just shows how good she is at what she does. She can sing a song just beautiful as in the track with just her voice and an instrument. She doesn’t need any technology to enhance her voice. She can just sit down and sing, which is amazing.
16:02 She has impeccable picking. It’s a shame many people overlook her talent and see her as nothing more than a manufactured pop star. She’s probably the realest female stars out there and deserves her fame.
Hey NPR is it possible you could pin this type of comment to the top? Or just have someone in the station do one in the description? PS That comment sounds angry but it isn't, thanks for all you do. Cheers.
Watching this for the first time after the eras tour concert, WOW I actually got to see her live twice with her singing songs from every era. I'm getting emotional because I became a Swiftie after listening/watching all too well 10 min version in early 2021, it got me to sit down and listen to every album and I realised that she's a LYRICISTS and I'm a sucker for good lyrics + that her songs aren't just the classics from which I used to listen to when it came on the radio. I'm so happy i decided to give her music a chance and look past the reputation and just see her and her craft. I'm in such awe of her.
Hoping for TS8 she does a stripped back album with pop-rock and acoustic elements again. Different than Speak Now, but unlike Ed Sheeran or Shawn Mendes.
I don't follow Ms. Swift, and had only preconceived notions based on news coverage... (Always a bad idea, I know) I am glad I watched this. Now I have a sense for why her fans hold her in such esteem. Preconceptions erased.
iamkerok I’m big on her voice. But she has been writing song sin she was 12 and collaborates with other song writers. She will always be a successful song writer for the rest of her life. She is a quality person, too.
The storytelling emotion in this version of "All Too Well" is breathtaking in its simplicity and by far my favorite rendition of the originally released version of the song. I would love to hear her sing the 10 minute one in this style.
personally, i think that's cause she was going through what she wrote about in all too well when she sung it here... i mean... it is -so- curious how she sung two break up songs after LOVER... ykno?
A truly beautiful woman with great emotional intelligence. I'm a 71 year old white British male who fully appreciates this amazingly talented woman - a true cultural icon!
the foreshadowing of her talking about what she would do if she were to be happy and she would tell stories through songs and that’s literally what she did on folklore is WOW 🤩🤩
best song of the album not because its reaaaaally good but because im starting to think that its the only song in the album that even though it changed (my mixing etc) its still very good... other ones not so much, like it better raw
Hearing her talk about her creation process is incredible. She so geniusly and perfectly weaves deep emotions with beautiful expression, I'm mindblown with the depth and complexity.
I’m not gonna lie, I haven’t been a TS fan, never thought I’d like her songs, basically judged a book by the cover. I’m a 63 yo butch lesbian and a former singer songwriter (who is a lyrics snob) but geez, she’s got the chops. For sure got some mad respect, she can play, I guess I don’t find her voice appealing but she can definitely sing. I really enjoyed every minute. I suppose you could now call me a Swiftie!
I didn’t become a fan until Folklore because I only knew her singles and thought they were just fluffy pop songs (which is fine just not super my vibe) But her best songs are actually not her singles at all lol she is an AMAZING songwriter. I don’t love every single song but way more than I thought it would. And her voice has only gotten better now. Listen to Folklore and Evermore, you’ll probably love them
@ Don't be an elitist. She's always sang love songs, being country doesn't make them better by default. It's the lyrical quality that matters and most would argue that is has only improved as she matures.
She has an immense sense of melody .. incredible hook writer. Her body of work is really impressive, one of the best song writers of our times.. probably of all time.
Same. I never realized she was as solid a musician as she demonstrates here. This venue is a VERY unforgiving environment soundwise - daunting! - and there's hardly anything off. Impressive.
You are complimenting her about how a nice person she was in this smol desk concert. But we all know that she's always this humorous, friendly, polite and humble as well since we've seen her starting her career. Totally different from how the media describe her. Just watching her live videos, story teller at Harvey Mudd college, live on Paris boat... or her documentaries. she's really a nice humanbeing.
She is the complete pakage in song writing. She has an amazing stage presence because of her simplicity and natural beauty. She is singing in a single office and is flawless and a joy to watch. Her voice ranges from lows and wonderful highs tones that emit genuine emotion.❤❤😊🎉. I can now appreciate her natural talent.
In life you accumulate scars, you accumulate hurt, you accumulate moments of-you know-learning and disappointment, and struggle, and all that. If someone's gonna take your hand.. They'd better take your hand scars and all. -Taylor Swift
when she said "I love break-up songs. They're so fun to write." I was like, yezzzz I love listening to your break-up songs eventhough I'm not broken lol
The emoTION IN ALL TOO WELL is absolutely captivating. You can see right away she starting getting into the raw emotions, and honestly catch me sobbing :,)))))
As a dad of 2 huge Swifties, I know her music (& lyrical stories) well and thank God for her following her path in life to share this music and provide an example of chasing your passion with true courage. I love "All Too Well" and the dad in me particularly loves to pair it with "Begin Again" (also from Red) - so hopeful to follow up the truth of the hurt with the girl who has found her old self again and heads back out to try again. If you enjoy these performances, give a listen to the clips from her Grammy Museum show - blown away every time!
The Grammy Museum performances were outstanding. She also has an acoustic BBC radio performance of ''Lover'', ''Archer'' and ''Holy Ground'' which was outstanding.
The genius of Tiny Desk right here. Probably one of the greatest cross-promotions ever. A bunch of fans of Tiny Desk fans probably never really listened to her, including myself, and a bunch of her fans probably never listened to much Tiny Desk before. So here we are.
I’ve heard Taylor Swift songs for years. It wasn’t until Folklore that I truly LISTENED vs. just hearing. I became a Swiftie overnight and it’s been such a pleasure to listen to her body of work with a newfound awe and appreciation. I purchased the Red album but never had listened to All Too Well. Same with not hearing New Years Day on Lover. Taylor Swift has literally saved my mental health during this pandemic. This performance was a blessing. She’s a good human and I can’t wait to hear what she does next.
How sad we have to excuse ourselves for listening to Taylor Swift unironically. That we need a music institution such as NPR to validate her as a musician. She is a musician and if people want to be music snobs let them be. We are just here listening to music.
She's one of the biggest musicians on the planet. The fact that she's considered a guilty pleasure to many is a crime. Listen to great music with pride.
I don’t and won’t excuse myself for listening to TS . I’m a old school glam rock/metal head 80’s music guy. Every time I see her I just wanna kiss her.
@@davidmendizabal9892 That will make a lot of people sad. I wonder how your nonexistence will affect others? Probably for the good since they will have lesser burden of keeping you in their life when you don't matter anyway.

And i don't care if people are upset i don't respecto people like Taylor, i love women who take responsability
All Too Well is timeless. No matter how many albums Taylor wrote, ATL has a special place in the hearts of everyone. It is a song I would still listen and hum in the last years of my life, grew old in a rocking chair. Something you would recommend to your grandchildren. It would be a classic for the next generation.
The adoration of Tay Tay is so palpable in that room ( I presume and hope is the case for most rooms she walks into) that her chill professor of song writing vibe is super endearing.
It's one those timeless songs in that the first time you ever hear it sounds like it's always existed and you wonder how you ever lived without having heard it...
the fact that her voice is clearly struggling (probably just fatigue, which is totally normal for anyone singing as much as she does) and she worked WITH that reality by finding clever and smooth option downs (especially in Lover) is a testament to 1) how connected she is to the musicality of her songs, 2) her prowess as a musician and how well she's honed her skills, 3) her dedication to her fans and giving the best performance possible
The real glow up here is Taylor going from singing “it was rare, I was there, I remember it all too well” to ‘it was rare, you were there, you remember it all too well”. She is truly happy and can’t remember her heartbreak anymore 🥺
@@LW-ng1fl no, the original goes "wind in my hair, you were there, you remember it all / down the stairs, you were there, you remember it all / it was rare, I was there, I remember it all too well"
All the comments from people who don't listen to her but appreciating her talent make my heart melt, I'm so proud. Great performance, great voice, great artist, great personality and great woman.
I'm a middle aged Dad, must have been living under a rock and just thought to myself, what's all this fuss about Taylor Swift. After watching this, I completely get it. Wow.

It’s hard to imagine that a singer who performs in stadium tours can be so humble and never forgets where she comes from. She’s down to earth, and her songs still sound good without all the pop instruments and effects. Along with Adele, they are one of the very few artists that can achieve that. Taylor should really make an acoustic album

Same here. Poetry has long been a vehicle to reach our innermost emotions, the common threads of our humanity. All Too Well is pure poetry
I've been listening to this song since 2012, and I only got to imagine the whole story of the song from start to finish; to digest it all and view its structure. It is a masterpiece of hers. It must be sad for her to sing this when she does, but she captured a moment in her life that only she herself knows to heart.
It is a song that will stand the test of time. It’s amazing
it's not a song, it's an emotion.

I agree! It's a shame she has to re-record but she's driven and will do an outstanding job taking back what's hers.
Any artist who wrote their own song and contribute to the process of producing them should own it. It's their right
That’s not what her original contract was
She owns Fearless now :)
the fact that her voice is clearly struggling (probably just fatigue, which is totally normal for anyone singing as much as she does) and she worked WITH that reality by finding clever and smooth option downs (especially in Lover) is a testament to 1) how connected she is to the musicality of her songs, 2) her prowess as a musician and how well she's honed her skills, 3) her dedication to her fans and giving the best performance possible
I've noticed too!! That's what makes her human❤️
this comment is underrated
How about simply she just can’t sing like our quality black American singers 🤷🏾♂️
No she just isn't a very good singer good song writer maybe but her voice just isn't that great but for some reason she sells alot of records
@@johncrabtree8857 And Bob Dylan?
Took in my first TS experience. Love her. Brought me to tears. 65 yr old white dude for Harris! To see such enthusiasm is inspiring. There is hope.
I don’t think people realise how freaking talented this gal is
The real glow up here is Taylor going from singing “it was rare, I was there, I remember it all too well” to ‘it was rare, you were there, you remember it all too well”. She is truly happy and can’t remember her heartbreak anymore 🥺
oh my god I just noticed this... I am in TEARS
I NOTICED THIS I JUST THOUGHT SHE HAD THE LYRICS WRONG LOL
Ayse Cetin that's beautiful but I'm pretty sure that's how she sings it on the original
The original has both of those lines
@@LW-ng1fl no, the original goes "wind in my hair, you were there, you remember it all / down the stairs, you were there, you remember it all / it was rare, I was there, I remember it all too well"
All the comments from people who don't listen to her but appreciating her talent make my heart melt, I'm so proud.
Great performance, great voice, great artist, great personality and great woman.
I'm a middle aged Dad, must have been living under a rock and just thought to myself, what's all this fuss about Taylor Swift. After watching this, I completely get it. Wow.
