  • Day Out: Honda CRF300L and Rally TET Peak District Ride - Arrow Exhaust, Rotopax, Heated Grips 4K
    This video is a ride I did at the end of February 2022 for a couple of hours to try out a few of the recent modifications to my Honda CRF300 Rally. I was joined by Ringo on his CRF300L.
    It was an opportunity to see how the Arrow Thunder exhaust was on the trails, and in particular for passing horses without incident.
    It was a cold enough day to use my Acewell heated grips, and as there's plenty of bumps and rocks, I left the Rotopax on my bike, without fuel in it, to see if there was any contact with the chain guard and swing arm.
    All seemed to work quite well, except my GoPro battery died and I was having too much fun to change it, so the video is a little brief. Riding your own bike is way more fun than watching me potter around the Peak District, so I hope this is a good outcome for all.
    Thanks for watching and I'll see you next time.

    Wow! Your Peak District us beautiful. The narrow lanes leading to the unpaved trails would be a new experience for this old American guy!
    Thanks for posting this vid of the Arrow out in the field. I like that its quiet enough to get by horses without causing a problem!

      @PeakMotorcycles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks. And yes, it is when you can see it 🤣 The quiet exhaust is a thing that works for some, but probably not for the Yoshi owners! If you live somewhere where you rarely come across other trail users, exhaust noise is less of a problem, but here, where there's walkers, dogs, horses, other livestock etc. everywhere, being as quiet and polite as possible helps to keep the trails open for motorcycles. If you're ever over and want to try them, let me know!

      Back in the 1970's here in US, there was a campaign for quiet exhaust pipes for trail bikes. The logo was;
      "< sound = > ground". I guess it didn't help.
      In my state (Connecticut) there is only one legal public place to ride. It's a family friendly destination.
      The hikers are trying to take that away from us.

      4K was a pain on my old laptop. It took forever. But I guess these videos might be up for a while, so it was worth getting a fancy Dell XPS that can render a 10 minute 4k video in 20 minutes, though the fans kick in like it’s about to take off 😳

    Good job Andre, good test day for all the upgrades! Looked like the the horse riders really appreciated your respectful driving around them, and the horses 🐎 too!

      Thanks Wayne, exhaust sound is a really hard thing to do in a video. So much depends on the mic, the compression, and the amp and speakers for the viewer. Not sure anyone would believe me when I say it’s quiet, but to ride past a line of horses helps folks to relate.

      How was it on stock tyres? I'm not sure he believed me when I said it was a bit like a pond. Fair dues to him though, he went for it and it was only when his front wheel dropped into a deeper bit that he needed to get the power on to get out the other side!

    I like that "pond", Andre. Nice vid. Just back from TET Germany. That stretch between the rivers Weser and Elbe throught the moors were a lot of muddy fun, a few trees blocked the trail due to spring storms. You might like that part of the TET. I really enjoyed this one.
    It’s very interesting to me to see your local terrain and back roads.
    I would love to make that ride.
    Here in Dallas, I would have to transport the Rally quite a ways out into the surrounding countryside to find challenging roads & trails like this.
    Looking forward to our eventual move up to northern New Mexico, and the National Forest roads up there.
    Happy Trails

      I grew up in this area, and it hasn’t changed that much over the years, and the terrain you have in TX (even at a drive!) is far more exotic for me 😁. The grass is always greener apparently. You should come over and try some of the local trails!

    Brilliant videos by the way mate. I've got my Rally but not passed my test yet. I'm only in Barnsley so will be doing all these routes you've kindly filmed for everyone👍👍
    I think they've stopped and are going to rectify those works on Pindale because of pressure from mountain bike groups. Council was supposed to be using stone that matches the surrounding area but theyve just lobbed building rubble down like you said

    • @PeakMotorcycles

      It is isn’t it. In a national park and an area of special scientific interest too. I think they were supposed to take up the rubble and replace with crushed limestone, but we shall see. Good work on getting a bike and good luck for your test. Maybe see you around when you’re done. Cheers!

    Hi Andre
    love your video with all the exhaust you have tried which do you think gave you the best increase in performance

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, to be honest, I’m not sure either did. Both have a different, deeper noise, so perhaps they feel like there’s an improvement. The arrow with a cat is closer to stock and others have said the MotoX felt like more torque but with the loss of top end speed. I think the limitation is more related to the UK/EU ECU and the Euro5 emissions it controls. The rest of the world gets a more open ECU which is more easily tweaked. I think if you do the exhaust + ECU + possibly the air filter, then you get a performance increase, but even then it’s not a lot. 3Hp perhaps?

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think they say it does, but I hadn’t noticed anything. It’s homologated, so it’s tested to have the same characteristics as the stock one, but just saves weight. If there is a performance gain, it’s minimal.

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Please don't laugh, but yes, I am. 1,600 miles in so far. They are ok on roads and in the dry. They are all over the place in the mud like we have now🤣. I have a set of Michelin Trackers to put on, but I'll be taking the bike to the ABR Rally in Ireland in a few weeks which will have quite a lot of road riding, so I was going to leave them on for that and switch to the Trackers when I get back.

    What made you change swap out the motox exhaust for the arrow

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When I was looking initially, the MotoX was the only one I could get. The Arrow is, I think, the only homologated exhaust for the CRF, so I suppose it was part curiosity. No one else seemed to be running one, and also having an exhaust with the same characteristics as stock, but with a catalytic converter, you know, for the environment, while still saving the weight seemed to be a good thing. I also got some content out of it for the channel. I’ve seen lots of reports that the MotoX had more bottom end but topped out earlier. I’ve not had mine on a dyno and I wasn’t sure if this was the case, or if it was just the sound that made it feel different. The Arrow does feel a lot like the stock exhaust. I tend to change up gears when I get to 7k rpm, and up to then the sound is quite similar to stock too.

    Great video as always, thank you. Quick question..how do you find the screen above 30mph? I’m 6’ and the buffeting is terrible, so much so I’m running without the screen until I can find a suitably sized extension 😳

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Richard, at this time of year, it's just about ok up to 40-50mph. 50mph+ there's a lot of buffeting and I get cold. Same in March last year. So I bought a wing to go on the windscreen; a cheap version of the Wunderlich I have on my GS, and it turned up mid-April. Once the weather warmed up, I didn't mind the buffeting, though most of the riding I do on it around here is under 50mph. I think for any longer journey at 50mph+, I'd try the wing.
