    Surprising results, especially with the baffle out, seems a bit throatier - nice. Thanks for another top video.

      @PeakMotorcycles  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Someone described it as being a bit deeper vs the stock which is a bit chirpier. I guess throatier is similar to deeper!

      I removed the baffle in the tail pipe. noticed quite a bit more power. do you think the bike would be running too lean without a EjK tuner with it removed? i didnt do any air box mods, just the header and tail pipe.Thanks

    The sound “quality “ is better than stock especially with the baffle removed. I ordered this same setup yesterday along with the bash guard and frame protectors. Last thing I’m waiting on are the Motoz Tractionator RallZ tires !

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yup, though one persons 'quality' is another persons 'torture'! I have a C43 with the AMG switchable exhaust, which no where near as exciting as the C63, is still a giggle with the pops and bangs. Some of my family members are less convinced 🤣. Sounds like you'll have a sweet setup. Have fun!

      When u refer to quality, do u mean a deeper tone?

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DaveDayve me or Red? For me personally, I don’t think I’d use the word quality. Without the baffle, it’s a deeper sound, as you mentioned. That might be more appealing to others. I’m sure for some, near silence would be a better indication of quality, but everyone’s different. It’s also hard to capture on a microphone, so if you can find someone that’s done it, you’d be able to decide if it’s for you.

      Yup, there’s definitely two camps on this, people who want it loud, and those who would like to save a bit of weight as quietly as possible. Welcome to the 2nd camp, it’s busy in here 🤣

    Thank you Andre. Absolutely spot on information for my exhaust decision. I too want to lose weight, improve exhaust tone and not produce offensive exhaust volume. You have shown that MotoX does all that. Also thank you for measuring the baffle. It does look like I can fit a US legal spark arrester. I am sure I can make it work but will only know if it requires modification when I get mine and try it.

      MrScamp, Did you find a spark arrestor that will work with the Moto X. I just ordered my exhaust and I want to keep it legal as I ride USFS often. Thanks for any insight,

    • @eurekaqi
      @eurekaqi 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@twowheeledadventures5615 Yes, I was able to fit an FMF spark arrestor but since my new exhaust measured 42.5mm. internally and my spark arrester measured 42mm. some modification was necessary. The inside metal shows grind markings so tolerances likely vary unit to unit. I was able to remove a little material from both pieces to make it all fit. I also had to extend the mounting bolt hole slightly. I wish I could give a blanket recommendation but not everyone would want to do such fitting.
      I installed the standard FMF spark arrestor and find that it does nothing to quiet the exhaust. I plan to order their “quiet” Q4 version spark arrestor and give that a try.

Look forward to your next video. My Rally hasn't arrived yet, was due end of Mch but not long to the end of April now. Will be a great winter project for me here in NZ. My top 5 mods are Tyres, Suspension, Gearing, 550 ECU, Exhaust ...Cheers.

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, the stock exhaust has a 1 piece link pipe and silencer, so unless you’re willing to cut that, just a silencer will be a challenge. This one is the full system. There do seem to be supply problems still for all sorts of things. I have a van coming which was ordered in May last year for a February delivery. That became March, then April, now May…. We shall see!
      From your list, I’d hold off on the gearing, at least initially; Honda have changed it from the 250 and made 1-5 lower and 6 higher. With the extra power and torque increase, 1 and 2 are quite low for off road use and 6 is great for highway cruising. Lucky you that you can get the 550 ECU. We can’t due to the EU/UK ECU… hoping your bike turns up soon. 🤞

      For the alloy one at least. If the carbon end cap can’t survive 200 miles, then there’s a problem there… the alloy one is cheaper at least, and while it’s not as fancy as some exhausts, it is a bargain price!

  • @Aengen
    @Aengen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Super content again! And anterestings finds. I have the full stainless system, and I think it is very much louder without the baffle. Really big difference! I actually ordered an extra baffle when I ordered it and have drilled out the all holes to 10mm in one of then, and maybe 8mm would have been perfect to my ears.

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There was another comment about how the type of sound can sound louder in that the stock exhaust has a more ‘chirpy’ sound and the MotoX has a deeper sound and perhaps we perceive a deeper sound to be louder? What I don’t have is the point between 4.5k rpm and 10.5k rpm where the MotoX becomes louder. If it’s 6k rpm then it would be more apparent, if 8.5k then less so.

    Hi, Great series on upgrading the crf300.
    It would be great if you could do a video breaking down the costs and shipping fees, what upgrades are a must have and costs buying direct from Thailand.
    Thanks and safe riding.

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Thanks. I did think about that, but the costs seem to vary significantly depending on weight, destination, size of package and import costs. This can be as much as 50%, and will probably be out of date before too long. About 20% (each) of the audience is in the US, UK, and Australia with 15% in Canada and Germany, and the other 10% a handful of other countries. I only have experience of shipping to the UK and even that seems to have varied depending on if there are import charges (or not!) I’ve found some things, particularly the Honda parts made in Thailand are a lot cheaper, but others (e.g. spark plugs) are cheaper if sourced locally. As for what’s a must, I think it comes down to how and where your’re riding, and how tall and heavy you are. If you’re 65kg, stock suspension is fine, if you’re 5’7” risers are probably not needed. If you only ride on road, most of the mods are overkill, and if you ride mostly off, then most would probably help. I’d rather folks make their own judgements about what’s a ‘must-have’ for them, and I wouldn’t presume to be able to define what other’s ‘must have’. To do so might even be considered rude! 🤣

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Steve, I haven’t noticed any performance impact. No flat spots in the rev range, and top speed is the same. I’ll ride it a bit without the baffle and see if that’s changed. A dyno is perhaps the only way to tell if there’s a real change, so maybe I’ll see if I can do that.

    As a note, if purchasing the MotoX exhaust from BikerzBits in Thailand, it appears that package (the V1 full exhaust) has changed. They no longer include the db killer insert with the package, and they don't include a spark arrestor 'bucket' to go on the input side. I recently bought the V1 full exhaust and it arrived with a screen-type spark arrestor in the end, and no db killer. I had to order and ship the db killer separately. This seems a somewhat recent change. I'm going to assume that because I don't have the spark arrestor bucket (that goes on the input side of the muffler it seems) - because it didn't ship with one and I so far haven't found one - my exhaust is noticeably louder than the stock setup (with the db killer inserted). I bought the MotoX based on this test/review. I think it's important to note. The loudness is just barely tolerable for me (without the db killer insert, it was very loud and obnoxious and absolutely no tolerable to me), compared to the stock setup. I also note a slight difference in my db killer insert in that the leading surface (that's inserted into the muffler) is rounded, rather than square as seen in this video. My experience seems to differ from others I've talked with online - although, those I've talked with bought theirs well before I did.

    Certainly good to know you can buy a full exhaust system which is as quiet but lighter than stock and at a very good price.( Pity they don't sell the silencers seperately )
    I bought another make for mine and am stll trying too modify it to get an acceptable tone.

      On the 300, the silencer and link pipe (including Cat?) is one piece, so the only way to replace the silencer only would be to cut the stock one and hope! And yes, you can’t beat a bit of burble!

    Have been watching your videos for a while now well done , with this 1 and the baffle I wander if drilling the holes bigger or more holes same side would give you better back pressure for low down...
    Another thing I used to tinker with with smaller thumpsters etc was the weights of the flywheel to give better riding and economy as I learnt this years ago off people that rally the old ford escorts so would be interesting to see in the future if flywheels become mods to these as they look and sound like an awesome bike to own , I still cant source 1 here in Australia zero stock and no estimated arrival date like the ship sank bringing them here 😄😀😃

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aye, the supply chain still seems to be broken. Even in the UK, ordering one now won’t be here before Easter… I guess I got lucky with mine (frame #99!). The flywheel is an interesting one. I’ve not seen it as a mod, but for a bike like this, where you don’t need the fast spin-up and all out power, a heavier flywheel would certainly help with the lower speed handling. Not sure about the holes. If I had a dyno I’d have a go, but trying to work out 1hp here or there or an increase in low down torque is challenging. Sometimes I think I can feel a difference, but other times I’m not sure.

    • @PeakMotorcycles

      I don’t have an EJK. I’ve done nearly 1000 miles on mine with no problems (other than a bit of the plastic on the end cap melted… get the one with the metal end cap!) I think you can probably squeeze some more power out with an EJK, though probably also need to do something with the air intake. It’s all a balance, exhaust let’s the air flow more freely out, EJK can increase the fuel going in but ideally this would be combined with more air too. I know that’s a massive over simplification! I’m not aware of any harm that can come to the engine without an EJK. Maybe it’s too soon to know for sure but there’s some folks with 3k miles plus on their bikes with the MotoX and I’m not aware of any problems. I was interested in the weight saving, not a power increase so haven’t tried an EJK yet. I’ll let you know if I do.

    Hey man ! Awesome video, as always. I discovered you, and it's awesome to see someone taking care of the crf 300 like this, i'm learning a LOT.
    Quick question, i've seen that with the yoshimura exhaust, you need to reflash the ECU, becaus eit's running too lean, and at low rpm, the bike shut off.
    Anything like this with the motoX exhaust ? Is it good quality ? would be curious to buy it, since it has a good noise, without being annoying for others.
    Edit: any opinion on Akrapovic ?
    CHEERS !

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Aymeric, welcome! So, there’s a a few things to consider. Are you in the UK or EU? If so, you’ll have a different ECU to the rest of the world, and currently there is no remap option that can unlock the Euro5 restrictions. If outside the UK/EU, remaps are available from the likes of 550 Performance.
      The problem occurs when there isn’t enough back pressure from the exhaust. If you have a straight through with no cat, then more air can come out than goes in and the bike will run lean. I ran my MotoX with both the end and mid inserts in and it was ok. Not quite the same as stock, but close enough. I think they are good enough quality for the price, but they are cheap. I’d go for the aluminium/stainless one if buying now as the end caps on the carbon ones melts!
      I’m not sure that Akrapovic do one yet for the 300. I’ve seen some that folks have fitted, but none that are CRF300 specific. If they have the same back pressure as stock, then they would be great. The quality is also good. I have an Akra pipe on both my CB1000R and my R1250GS. Both are dedicated parts from new and perform very well.
      I hope this helps. If I was buying now on a budget, I’d get the stainless MotoX. If my pockets were deeper, I’d get the Arrow with a cat as it’s homologated (same back pressure as stock), lighter than MotoX and has a similar sound to stock.
      Cheers,

    Hi Andre, great vid, I never would of thought your testing could prove that, I must ask though do you think that this will vary when you're riding as the rev range changes. I'm very interested to see what you think, cheers.

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a tricky one. Sound is such a difficult thing to assess, and I couldn’t think of any other way. This is how levels are measured for track days and ACU events, so if it’s good enough for them! The sound meter isn’t calibrated but it’s the same meter used for both stock and MotoX exhausts so if it’s off, it’ll be off for both. It will vary when riding, and ideally you’d do tests at every 1000 (or 500?) rpm to understand where it changes. Also drive by measurements are useful for the bike under load. I’d like to think that the 4500rpm is a sort of middle measure and most riding on a bike like this will be in the 3000-6000rpm rev range, so it’s a representative single value for comparison. Ultimately I guess the only way is to try it, and see what longer term effects are from noise fatigue and how many people complain 😉

  • @kevinim300

    I run this exhaust with a 550 performance tune... I run it without the baffle as well. I think there's something wrong with your decibel metre. I do like the sound in the performance gains and I'm willing to put up with it. But this exhaust is by far louder than the stock exhaust I have to wear earplugs and I don't rev it that high.

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  ปีที่แล้ว

      No Dyno but it would barely spin the stock tires in dirt and now I can spin the tire if I want in the dirt while accelerating , it’s also far smoother on off throttle. Mid range is far stronger also. I will get a decimal meter and try it. This exhaust is very loud. I need earplugs.

    When you were talking about spark arrestor where the baffle was. In your first video you showed a small metal screen that went between the link pipe and exhaust and you stated that was a spark arrestor. Is that not correct? Why would you need another one?

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good point! I’ve no idea 😁. We have way too much rain in the UK (most of the time) for a spark arrestor to be a thing. Baffles are more familiar, and if removable, they are the thing in the back end of the silencer.
      That seems to be the thing that is called the spark arrestor elsewhere. There were no instructions or other documentation with the guide, and if in the UK, the bit at the back is the baffle, (and why would you need another one!) then there must be a name for the forward one, so I, incorrectly as it turns out, called that a spark arrestor. I don’t suppose you know what the insert at the front end should be called by any chance? Happy to publish a correction if you or anyone else knows.

  • @Whoopasman

    I installed that exhaust on my L and it has less low end power, it pulled better with factory exhaust. I wonder if it’s because it’s so quiet. • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine came out easy, but I had a stuck one on a Triumph Speed Triple 1050R in the past. Sometimes heat helps, so run the bike for a few minutes, then try again. Sometimes getting something to pull on is tricky. I’ve found that cutting a wire coat hanger and making a tight hook on one end that will hook onto something inside, perhaps through the holes in the end of the baffle, and then have a bigger bend on the other end so you have something to pull on can help. If none of that works, take off the silencer, the one at the ‘front’ end should be loose, and see if you can knock the baffle out from the inside with a broom handle or similar. Good luck.

      @@fcalin21 no problem. There’s a lot out there. I’ll have another look and if no luck will do the sound check on mine.

    Hows the new shock?

      Pretty good. Front and back are much more planted. I know I’ve not done a specific video, but I’ll get to it eventually. I recorded a short this evening trying out the un-baffled exhaust, new levers, new headlamp guard and the suspension. Hardly conclusive but I’ve tried to describe it. I’ll see if I can get it done by the weekend.

    Is it street legal?

      Probably not. The only two E marked, street legal ones that I know of are the stock one, and the Arrow one (if a catalytic converter is used). That said, in the UK for the annual safety check, there is no validation of parts. I think you can get a fail for noise, but many bikes have stock exhausts which are a lot louder than this. I used it for a few months with no problems and then switched to an Arrow exhaust. I don’t know what your local laws are though. I know that in Germany, modification is much more controlled than it is in the UK. Not sure about anywhere else.

      @@PeakMotorcycles thank you! I think I will buy the Arrow one.
