The Odin twist is genuinely in my opinion, one of the best crafted and executed twists in gaming. The whole game is recontextualized after that reveal and it all makes sense. So well done and bravo to the writing team for coming up with this and pulling it off
I think it speaks volumes at 9:04 that it was the first time we ever get to see the dwarves slip between realms without some sort of object or pov obstructing it
There are some clues as to Týr not being genuine, but odin in disguise. For one, whenever people refer to him, the real one, its subtitled as 'Týr', but whenever he speaks its subtitled as 'Tyr', without the little mark over the y. Also, when you visit asgard with atreus for the first time, Odin makes the comment about Kratos 'between my ex-wife and disgruntled former employee, he isn't getting an un-biased view' - problem being that he acknowledges when he visits you at the start of the game that Freya is trying to kill you. How could he know you've reconciled without having eyes in your inner sanctum? There are others, it all becomes so clear on a second playthrough, which is a testament to how well its written.
4:43 I really like the use of the background music in this scene. As Tyr/Odin was laying out the plan to get to Asgard the music sounds upbeat, inspirational, and hopeful. But then as soon as Brok starts voicing his doubts the music switches to ominous and suspicious like there is tension building.
Now that you know for sure that Odin was disguised as Tyr this entire time it is kind of fun to go back and look at all the subtle hints they were giving through the earlier scenes in the game.
I mentioned this in another video But what's so crazy about Odin is that he didn't need to kill Brok. Odin is someone who doesn't like when people defy him in any way. He's someone who will lie just on impulse or on principle even if he doesn't need to, and over the smallest of things, as Mimir says at one point in the game Odin says how he doesn't much care for Brok and insults Kratos' intelligence. Once when he lost a bet against the giant who built Asgard's walls, he complained about it to Freya drunk, and lied to the rest of Asgard about how the wall was built. He has an extreme superiority complex and inferiority complex, and wants to give off that he's in control and that his way is the only way. The fact that Brok, who he supremely underestimated, managed to see through him and call him out when he said he had a secret way into Asgard, saw that he had no possessions when Tyr wanted to supposedly get his things, saw that Tyr has offered no real assistance, and came up with the idea for the spear that defeated Heimdall in the first place, shows how smart he actually is, which to Odin, was an insult to his intelligence. So in short, Odin couldn't take the L.
Just think, the last three episodes of sidequesting you were both obliviously entertained by the exploration and adventure while most folk watching this knew that you were right around the corner from this drama jumpscare! I swear, at least twice you talked at some length about how much you've both come to like Brok and I could practically feel the viewers tugging their collars nervously. It's rare to see you so quiet and serious, but I appreciate how that shows you connected with the characters. It's a rough loss and they really know how to drive it in. A subtle detail is that because 'Tyr' never had any things, as Brok pointed out, I think the knife he used to stab him was the one he used to prepare the soup - the knife from Brok and Sindri's own kitchen.
God I can't wait for your next video! The next area is my absolute favorite area of the game. Its so frickin beautiful! I took a crap ton of screenshots that i still use to this day as my computer screensaver.
24:12 His gloves are off; he is still covered in Brok's blood, and he is using Brok's hammer to make himself a sword. Sindri is just so broken. Then after Atreus says, "I thought we were his family too," and Kratos responds with "We were," you can hear Sindri begin to sob in the background.
We always understood that this episode would be pretty silent. I am so very sorry if someone spoiled any part of this reveal to you, but what a scene! It is genuinely so well done that even knowing what is going to happen, it still rocks me to my core. I love your guys' content, this series in particular has been amazing. What a joy it's been watching you experience this game. Keep up the great work! :)
Wanna know something funny, when I first found "tyr" I was mid smoke of a joint and I thought "Imagine if odin was tyr somehow🤷♂️.... nah" fast forward 20hrs later i had ti take a walk😭🤣
i mean thats like saying knowing Loki can shapeshift spoils him turning into a bear/wolf, you forget this takes from an actual real life mythology and isnt 100% from god of war lore
Not really? Even if they knew Odin could , doubt is only thrown onto Týr in this cutscene, so it's not like they thought he was Odin at any point. Plus, as mentioned by these other folks, shapeshifting is a power that Odin has in Norse Mythology, so it's pretty easy to find out if you do a bit of research outside of the game.
@@Primeval31not only that but the fact when everybody mentioned “Týr” his named was always spelled with “ý” but when we would talk to Týr face to face the name would change from Týr to Tyr it’s not very noticeable but when you do realize it, it’s like wow
Man I have been saving this since forever ago. I'm glad you both avoided spoilers as humanly possible. -Yes! You both were right about the difference in how Tyr's name was written (Tyr - Týr) is the first subtle hint, that can be disguised as an error in the game. -Another one is that at the very start of the game you see Huginn and Muninn in working for Odin when he makes his visit, but after Tyr appears there is only Huginn in the whole game, Odin sneaked Muninn in Sindri's house (In the broom closet he had for himself) and was teleporting in and out every time.
The one detail someone mentioned that gets me now - whenever Atreus says "I thought we were his family" you can hear Syndri gasping/sobbing quietly in the background away from us. Dealing with loss and pushing away you were close to in anger/frustration in himself truly shows how devastated he is now.
I am so happy you guys have gotten to this point. I started watching since your GoW 2018 playthrough. I'm looking forward to you wrapping the story, doing the last few side quests, then Valhalla. Just be sure to do those essential side quests before Valhalla
Being in the shop upgrading stuff during so much story was kinda sad...yI'm glad you jumped out so you could enjoy....... Edit... Yep... Enjoyment isn't the right word. Brok's death was truly shocking to me, however Sindri"s scene was for me the best in the game... So raw and emotive - and so well acted. A bummer to play on Christmas Eve though! I hope you both had a very Merry Christmas ... And thanks for the great playthroughs this year, and hoping for happier ones in the N And yes, it was hard not to comment when you were talking about Brok"s riddle.
Man. Brok dying hit me when I first played. I played it 3 months after my sister died. She was in a car accident 2 years ago. I remember I was in tears seeing Sindri broken.
Important. Few things to finish After finish the game. Go to the raven tree. Brok's funeral. Do that first before go to valhalla. Remember, it's important!
I remember in my playthrough, I felt off about Tyr almost from the start. Maybe it was my experience with this series that got me ready for this great God to ultimately betray Kratos for whatever reason or maybe that Odin managed to turn him after all those years of torture. He kept poking division all passive aggressively, I've known people like this in real life, so I saw it. But I never thought he was actually Odin himself, wow GoW Ragnarok really genuinely surprised me there, bravo game. Looking back on all of his scenes and dialogue, it really sheds some light on how Odin actually felt about Tyr. He played him so, mockingly, he made him seem so pathetic and weak, but also he was kind of obviously a fake in some parts. He'd let it slip too. Also, hey, remember when you guys didn't like Brok that much back when ya'll first met him? Man, take a good long look because he's gone, no more comedic relief or levity in this story, Lol. Just going to be dead serious from here on out.
I felt so similar about Tyr too. I remember just feeling like Brok was so rough and crude but we really did grow to love him. It's so sad and such a hard loss that you feel in the game now...Brok was someone we didn't even consider losing 💔 ~ Cait
Happy new year in advance! I’ve seen bugs that are more annoying than the R1 R2 glitch. I think running the game in performance mode over the high fidelity mode might solve the issue. But it’s a minor inconvenience if you don’t have OCD😅
I cried on my first playthrough and I had to turn off the game to collect myself, tried to continue the next day and I still freaking cry when they meet up with Sindri
You ended the video just before a really cool scene with Surtr. I'm already excited for the next part! Now that you're close to finish the story I hope you keep playing after the credits. Not saying you must 100% the game, but there are a couple of really interesting thing to do: Mimir will tell you that Lunda wants to speak with you. Save that for last, since it's considered by many as a secondary ending. Alfheim: Go to the area before the desert, where the shop was and where you found the sled. There you'll have a little cut-scene that ends the story of a character. Niflheim: You can *unlock* a new area in between the training arena and the raven tree. Muspelheim: There's a nice secret very close to the Crucible (if you can't find it just look the map, it will be marked as undiscovered)... Pure adrenaline! 👋
I feel like Chris Evans needs to film a Captain America video where he sits down and goes "so... you reached THAT part of God of War: Ragnarok." Anyway, here we are ladies. Sorry you had to go through what we all went through, but I was glad to see that you handled it so well and that, for better or worse, the twist wasn't ruined for you. Regarding post-endgame stuff, I'll echo what I'm sure other have already said: 1. Stop by Niflheim to start a new sidequest that will be available. 2. The "true" ending after everything is a short sidequest you pick up from Lunda. 3. The song that plays during the end credits (after the sidequest I mentioned in #2) will get you DMCA'd at the speed of light, but for your own private listening it is an amazing piece. 4. The Valhalla DLC is the most amazing DLC they could have given us, not even taking into account that it is free. Whether you play it for us or not... just please play it. Thank you for this series. Whether it's God of War, Bloodborne, etc., I love watching you two. But for now... ready yourselves. The big showdown is coming. For Brok 🫡😢
@cait_and_kati So girls, I'm writing this while watching the video. How are you holding up after this? Do you have heavy hearts, as we say in German? Yes Cait, you noticed the absence of the accent above the y pretty early on. I was impressed, and I really had to restrain myself to not spoil anything for you. Quite a sledgehamner of an reveal, wasn't it? I feel for both of you. But this reveal was what we, your audience, were so waiting for! By the way, there are a ton of quotes from the first game in GoW Ragnarök, this time expressed by different people, in a different way. Thus changing it's original meaning. One last thing. Have you noticed, Brok"s death changed Sindri? He doesn't wear his gloves anymore.
The Odin twist is genuinely in my opinion, one of the best crafted and executed twists in gaming.
The whole game is recontextualized after that reveal and it all makes sense. So well done and bravo to the writing team for coming up with this and pulling it off

Gloveless Sindri never fails to hurt me on personal level. He didn’t deserve any of this

Who ever spoiled to them that Odin could shapeshift ruined this reveal.
It’s basic Odin knowledge though?
i mean thats like saying knowing Loki can shapeshift spoils him turning into a bear/wolf, you forget this takes from an actual real life mythology and isnt 100% from god of war lore

You will get the answer to the riddle you just have to keep going. I want to see when you get there.
If you do a replay, the Odin hints are INCREDIBLE! Bravo to the writing team for telking us without us knowing until the reveal
