    How on earth could he just remain in the 50s. Elvis always adapted. All phases of Elvis are great, interesting and show how he was not a one trick pony.

      Absolutely agreed - Elvis adapting and evolving as an artist is what set him apart and appeal to an even wider range of people! 😁

      Very true, Paul - they do try to learn a few things, but there's a lot more that's possible (which, just maybe *maybe*, we hope to help with someday)

    Having been to the Market Square Arena show I just had to obtain this when it came out, I remember being wary about forking out the £220 at the time but it remains one of my most treasured memorabilia items in my collection.
    Great video again Gents, it inspired me to pull my copy off the shelf for a thumb through and boy it's good.
    Many thanks Dave

    I have seen this Set before. But, I will say, You guys Love for Elvis shine thru! I am 66 yrs old and have been an Elvis fan since I saw Fun In Acapulco at the old Texas theater in Hillsboro, TX In 1962! I was just devastated when he died! Saw him in concert 4 times! Wouldn’t trade those memories for anything!

      @EAPSociety My goodness Jamie, thank you so much for sharing this set with us!!... I mean, it just doesn't get any better than this! What an extraordinary acquisition!!
      And I have to say, I actually thought Elvis (his health considering) was absolutely fantastic at the Omaha/Rapid City shows! Unchained Melody gets most of the "kudos" from the TV Special, but How Great Thou Art, was equally pretty damn special too, I thought! 🤩👍

    • @EAPSociety
      @EAPSociety  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @graemeferdinands5856. You're very welcome, it's just one way we can help preserve Elvis history in some form or fashion! I definitely agree on "How Great Thou Art," Elvis was rocking some amazing versions in '76 and '77! I like most of the Rapid City show, and do enjoy Omaha, though it's probably one of the weaker ones.

    great video guys ..thanks for sharing this......I Guess there is a dramatic tragic beauty in watching someone as great as ELVIS ,in his free fall struggle...and seeing glimpses of what he was come through....I think the book shows some of the worst photos ive ever seen of him.As far as the video,..I think the CBS special clearly shows a man who should not have been on stage. To release this to the general public would be unjust to the memory of the KING. I think also ELVIS would not want this to be released.I know as fans we can filter through this and enjoy ELVIS ,even in this state of decline.The general public would have the wrong impression of what ELVIS really was.We know ELVIS was an adonis,and the greatest and most versatile vocalists and entertainer f all time.

    I am a collector of the June ‘77 shows. I have many. Would love to have this!! Now with Riley in charge, and no input from PABP, maybe it will happen. Elvis was alive and well after 1973. They used part of the show in the ELVIS movie. Come on EPE!!! We older folks won’t live for ever and we saw it when it aired in Oct, 1977 on the night his casket was moved to Graceland.

    Thanks for the indepth look at the book ..much appreciated some wise observations as always. I wanted this set when it came out.. it's clearly a labour of love whoever put it together should be rewarded they put something a bit of history that was being neglected by the official sources the EPE arguement for not releasing the special doesn't hold up anymore because it's all on TH-cam in poor quality and has been for years for lovers and haters to see and comment on. It's done zero harm to Elvis legacy because it is his legacy. He chose to do the Special and the Tours. We would be poorer off without footage of Unchained Melody, Hurt, My Way, How Great Thou Art, Trying to Get To You my fave is I Don't Really to have footage of Elvis singing those big songs that he lived and breathed and put everything into is priceless. This was the real Elvis but the official people want the safe perfect Elvis image for marketing purposes. I love worts on my heroes because no man or woman is perfect the only man you can hold up as perfect example for all of humanity was Jesus. Maybe the official narrative will change now that Priscilla is no longer pulling the strings I love her and what she's done but the official narrative ends the divorce and it's all about 1968. The official
    narrative is dominated by 1956 but sadly the technology wasnt good enough to capture Elvis at his best all we have are distorted kinescope footage of TV programs poor sound quality sound and live recordings are of historical interest because the sound systems and venues of the day were not made for Rock n Roll or today's technology Elvis helped change the sound systems venues and technology as well as the culture he was very clear about how he liked the improvements in sound so I don't have any problems with making his music sound and remember what he said about it being hard to comprehend his Aloha show being beamed around the world it wasn't just the event it was going from singing on the back of truck to that it must have been mind-blowing for him. It's very easy to take his career for granted and play fantasy manager but he was the fantasy made real. 1977 showed the flipside but also the strength of the man to keep on keeping on when he wasn't well. If footage of Elvis looking unwell upsets some fans tough luck he wasn't perfect and they shouldn't expect him or anyone else to be perfect.

    I think they should release it. It's still part of his history and there's a lot of us that enjoy the cbs special. I don't care about the arguments people make about his health etc. to me he sang powerful still. Imho

    A fabulous review guys and what a beautiful package? Such a shame he used the Sundial suit so much, he looked fantastic in that NYE outfit? Also why did he seem so well in February vocally and physically compared to Cbs? Shame they didn't film NYE 76 instead of the June shows? Cheers JnJ ❤❤

      Thank you, Denny! Yeah, I wish they'd have filmed the NYE show, too! And I've wondered about the drop, too, but then the "Elvis: What Happened" book was about to come out, and I think things really started to catch up to him toward the end of the June tour, sadly.
      And I do love the Sundial, but I agree on the Phoenix suit!

    I’m going to have to disagree with the notion that Elvis’ Legacy would be less for not for, “Unchained Melody”.
    I truly believe that in ‘77, his career was basically back to what it had been in ‘67 !!!

    Elvis had a jumpsuit made for the upcoming Aug 77 tour. Or even used for the CBS special. Pastel blue with lights. But wasn't completed. Great review again😊 Saw it on a website. Plus Elvis had paid for International Travel insurance which was auctioned off.

    i watched this two times straight... what an interesting release, i've never seen through this book before, so thank you... what a product! ,.... but you know what? i think those sitting on rights should extract their own heads out of their snobbery asses, the sooner the better, so that this release can be re-released in its totality... and that poor guy that made this excellent product, who is still "paying for it the rest of his life", should have been pardoned a long time ago and instead given an award for making this fantastic product... but that's just my opinion... 😄

    If you had to choose one show to listen to, would it be the Market Square show or do you have recommendations for another 77 concert?

    • @EAPSociety
      @EAPSociety  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ooh... that's a tough one! Market Square is pretty good, but it's hard to beat New Year's Eve of '76 going into '77. I find the Lincoln show in '77 to be pretty good, too; but then, I'm biased since I know someone who taped the show from the audience that night!

  • @dannad123

    Great show as always! Regarding the CBS special, I often wonder if Elvis had lived a little longer, and been around when the show was aired, what effect it would have had. I think alot of fans would have been shocked, the press would have been in for the kill! Wonder if Elvis may have responded in a positive way? Sadly we'll never know. Having said that I love alot of performances from 1977. Thank you!

    • @EAPSociety
      @EAPSociety  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks, Dan! And actually, if Elvis had lived, CBS would have filmed later shows. It was only when he died that they had to use what they shot. So if he'd lived, there would likely be two more shows filmed (which could have been pretty interesting!)

    • @dannad123
      @dannad123 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1
