Hi, I moved up fromLondon 2.5 yrs ago. I'm on the Black Isle. I'm an aurora chaser and do love watching this as you are living the dream, as its heaven up here! Welcome and thank you for your photos!
Hi Lisa, thanks very much (I think I just followed you back on twitter!). It's great to be up here again, and I was so happy to catch the aurora finally this morning as well! Let us know if you're ever heading over to the west coast to try and catch it! Sam
Welcome to Scotland :) Great to have Scientists and qualified Vets to Scotland. I really hope everything works out with your new adventure. Scotland is a wonderful place and im sure you will be very happy.
Thank you very much Lindsay! It is lovely down by Invergarry, we stayed in Fort Augustus for a couple of nights on our 'scouting' trip in 2020 and it is beautiful around there. S
Congratulations on your move. I moved to Argyll 26 years ago from London and have never looked back. Torridon is an awsome area for photography. I'll be heading to Assynt for the first time in May and can't wait to see it for myself. I certainly plan on investigating the are further. Best of luck with your business venture. I've signed up for your newsletter and look forward to seeing what you make of it. Fingers crossed, I'll be able to come and use your facilities once they're operational.
Thank you Andrew, and thank you for signing up to the newsletter as well! We are hoping to have the accommodation ready by May, all going well, and it would be really lovely to host you if we can! Also, we must visit Argyll ourselves at some point, it's a lovely place. I spent the first four years of my life living in Tighnabruaich, but it has been a very long time since I was last there! Atb, Sam.
Guys, super, super excited for you both. It's a big step but it looks like you are already feeling the benefit. Looking forward to seeing all your new adventures!
Wonderful video and made me smile a lot to hear about your update and plans for the future...very happy for you both over your move, and wish you the very best as you start a new chapter......time is precious and never comes back, so I think you have started this new chapter with great intentions, and hope you spend a lot of quality time together after leading busy lives before. Well deserved! And the location looks amazing! Look forward to your future videos and photography.
Thank you very much Wajid, we really appreciate your comment! Absolutely, we may as well spend the time we have doing things that we enjoy together, that is our main priority on life, and we're looking forward to sharing it all on our channel as well! S.
I know exactly where you are as I stayed in New Kelso not so long ago. I'd be interested in the holiday let so will sign up to the newsletter! Best of luck with everything!
Ah excellent, yes we're just up the road from there! It is a fantastic spot. It would be really lovely to see you here Ian if you ever fancy heading back, and thank you for signing up to the newsletter! S
This is great news and I am very happy for you both. Your new location is not too far from civilisation yet remote enough to provide you both with a variety of wildlife and landscape opportunities ! The smiles on your faces will widen in the months to come. Looking forward to hearing of your accommodation and was wondering if you could cope with a couple of border collies(who are quite happy to sleep in the boot ! We return to Strathcanaird are once again this September for another wander around Assynt and up to Durness. Possible pass near to en route through Torridon on way back home via Shieldag. So happy that those stressful long hours are behind you. Settle in, deep breaths ....and relax !😄
Hi Richard, thank you so much for your comment, we really appreciate it! Absolutely, it would be great to see you here if you need to stop off, and of course your border collies will be more than welcome too! My parents live in Durness by the way, so we'll probably be heading up that way quite regularly too. It feels amazing to have the area so close to us now! Sam
I'm watching this as a fellow Oxfordshire resident and oxford University researcher who is moving to The Highlands in November! We will be living 50 mins North of Inverness, this is lovely to see :)
Hi Hannah, what a coincidence! Where will you be moving to? We really wish you the best of luck with the move, and congratulations! It's quite a change of scenery from Oxfordshire but we have absolutely no regrets at all, it's been such a move for the better and we're absolutely loving it up here! S
Thank you Caroline! We’re running a bit behind on the DIY at the moment so we’ve had to take a bit of a break from content, but we’ll be up and running again soon!
I can see wonderful adventures ahead, will eagerly await your progress, I know the area fairly well, I am back in Skye in October after Covid and Fuel shortages curtailed my two previous trips and at 72 years old you never know how many trips you've got left, all the time I am fit I'll be up every year, it's a long way from Kent but worth all the effort, Very Best Wishes to you Both, Colin.
Thank you very much Colin, and I am sorry that you have had to cancel your previously planned trips to Skye. It has certainly been challenging trying to organise the house purchase and move over the past couple of years and we have had to cancel trips as well, so it it a relief to finally be up here! I hope that you are able to make it up in October, it is certainly worth the trip. S.
Great video, and so nice to see you both. Looking forward to all that you show us in the coming months, and definitely going to make use of your accommodation at some point.
I’m so happy for you both to be living in the awe inspiring highlands! The photographs from your past visits have had another dimension that I don’t see in all photographers of the highlands. It’s a deep love and connection with the landscape, and it comes through in your photographs. I’ll be happily looking forward to seeing both of your works as you develop your knowledge of the land and the animals there! Wishing you all the best!
Wow, thank you very much for this comment, it really means a lot to us! We're really happy to be back up here again, this place really has always been home to us anyway! S.
Hi Sam and Hannah! Thank you so much for sharing your plans for the future! I’ll pray it will all work out for you both! I’ve been following your channel for the past 3 years now and loved all of your videos! Including the videos you made in my home country New Zealand! I’d like to come over and stay for a while in your airbnb and go out and photograph Scotland of which I’d love to visit! All the best for the future and those renovations 😊
Thank you very much Walter, and thank you for sticking with us! Definitely get in touch if you ever plan to come over here, you would be extremely welcome! We were talking the other day about potentially heading back to NZ at some point as well, we would love to go back there! S.
Very best of luck to you, it’s sounds like you were in need of a change and that is a beautiful area of Scotland you’ve chosen. I look forward to your photos from the Coulin range 👍🏻
Congratulations guys as you begin this exciting new chapter! It's been lovely over the past few years watching all of your videos, it feels like I know you both (silly I know but it does) so I'm genuinely thrilled to see you both looking so relaxed and peaceful and happy with your decision. I can't wait to watch as you explore more of the Highlands and show us around your new studio. And when we eventually make it over to Scotland we'll definitely look at staying at your holiday let!! How wonderful! Anyway.... for now don't work too hard on all the DIY, make sure you relax a little too and enjoy the beautiful part of the world you now call home. 🏠
Wishing you both all the very best on your move up to the Highlands. I love your videos so I can't wait for more regular content. Good luck and happy shooting
What a beautiful location to live. I want to wish you both all the very best on your new adventure in the Highlands . .When I visited the UK a few years ago that area was my favourite of all ..!! Richard
Thank you very much Richard, we're really excited to be here, and it also has some amazing dark skies so fingers crossed there will be some nightscapes to come as well! S
Hi Sam & Hannah: Congratulations on making this life-changing move! This sounds so exciting. My wife and I are coming to the Lake District in June 2022 spending some time with Chris Sale, and then going up to Scotland (Glencoe, Skye, the NC500 locations and then onto Edinburgh before heading back to Canada. If you see some senior citizens wandering around the area that look lost you might recognize us by our Canadian flags on our back-packs. Best wishes....Cheers, Keith Pinn. P.S. I signed up to your newsletter so we can keep in touch with your progress.
Hi Keith, thank you very much for your comments, and thank you for signing up to the mailing list! It's really great to hear that you are coming over in June, and spending some time with Chris as well, I'm sure you will have an amazing time. We are hoping to see Chris up here later in the year, really looking forward to taking him out into the Torridon landscape! It sounds like a great trip that you have planned, certainly taking in some of the best landscapes in the UK. We will definitely keep an eye out for your flags, and do get in touch if you are planning to stop off in the area! Sam.
Congratulations on the new life journey. A good friend of mine from Uni where we studied Astrophysics continued in academia getting his PhD and struggled for many years to maintain a position let alone a decent income so I can understand your intention to move away from that area. I jumped ship and ended up working in software development, which can also be stressful - landscape photography is my escape. Have fun exploring Scotland 🙂
Thank you very much Russ! Yes, academia is a tricky place to be at times. I did/do love working in research, it's just that the constant uncertainty with funding was becoming incompatible with our desire to settle down. It feels good to finally start building something more permanent in a place that we love! S.
I am looking forward to your more regular schedule. I think you should get some other people to base tours out of your accommodation for a while. It should get you some early periods of high occupancy, and you will get a certain reputation. Kim Grant would be a good start, she too is in Scotland. Check out James Morrison, painter.
Good luck to you both. I will look forward to seeing how your progress goes and how you settle into your new life. I'm also an escapee from academia (partially, still teaching at a university, but no more research). It is always interesting to see how different people manage to break that chain. Since Scotland is definitely on my list of places to go, maybe I will have an opportunity to visit your lodge one of these days.
Thank you very much Kevin, yes, I've been trying to work out the best route out and it's been tricky! The funding landscape has been getting steadily more uncertain and I've been working through various options, but the need to find somewhere to settle down and call home won out in the end! You would be very welcome if you wanted to come and visit one day, hopefully we will have more details available soon! Thanks for watching, Sam.
Thank you as ever for your ongoing support Ian! We have our parents coming later this week, so we're chilling that bottle ready to open and celebrate properly! And we'll look forward to seeing you up here too! S
Looks so beautiful! You just came up as one of my recommended videos as funnily enough we just moved to the Highlands too after a trip up last year! Feels like being on a permanent holiday doesn't it with all the beautiful beaches and stunning locations to explore! I look forward to seeing more ☺️
It does! It’s such an amazing place and we’re really happy to be up here permanently now! I hope that your own move has gone well, and welcome to the highlands! S
The very best of luck to you both 😊👍 very jealous lol I’ve just come back from that area for a weeks photography and would definitely be interested in staying in your accommodation as I’m always travelling over Scotland doing photography
Thank you very much David! Just seen your images from Skye on ig, fantastic! It would be brilliant to see you up here and you would be very welcome! We're hoping to have the accommodation ready in time for early summer if you are heading up this way again 😉! S
Hi Sam and Hannah I reckon you've made a great move, the photo opportunities are going to be fantastic. I was fortunate to ride the NC500 a couple of years ago on a motorcycle and hope to return again maybe later this year or next. It's difficult to make plans at the moment. The only negative is that tiny flying creature the dreaded midge:) Sandy
Hi Sandy, yes the midges certainly cause problems around here! At least for a few months per year! Mind you, it's gorgeous here at the moment, doesn't feel like March at all (and no 'flying teeth' yet either!). I hope that you are able to make it up here again soon. Actually, I'm planning to try a bit of bushcraft up here as well at some point (planning to have a couple of nights in the woods later in the year!). Sam.
Best of luck for your new venture. Exciting times, and you wont know yourselves when you get into your rhythm ! Ill be coming to stay a night to catch up and maybe even a cheeky wee shoot. Should get Julian Baird, Chris Sale, Simon Booth all together for a shoot off too! = ) Speak soon, ad welcome home! "Slainte"!
Thank you Ewan! We're already feeling the benefits, feels so good to be back up here finally! We're looking forward to seeing you up here, and for sure, we need to get everyone up here together! S.
I moved here from America (Colorado) because my husband is Scottish and we have always wanted to live closer to the west coast. However I fear I still haven’t grown accustomed to the midges 😭😅 maybe someday. I like to spend every second of a sunny day outside painting so it’s a struggle on the west coast. Moray (where we live) has a quiet country feeling without the midges (mostly) but my heart aches for the west. So for now I’m trying to embrace the interesting coast here and the nearby Cairngorms while we are here. Anyways, thank you for sharing your story! It’s been fun to get to know you.
Hi Sarah, I'm not sure if anyone ever actually becomes accustomed to the midges unfortunately! 😆 Fortunately photographs are a bit quicker than paintings so I have been able to take the 'smash and grab' approach in the past, but it can be a struggle (I had an awful experience with them by Loch Maree last autumn)! You are definitely a bit safer over on the east coast though! Just subbed to your channel by the way, I will look forward to seeing your work! S
@@BosePhotography I went to Loch Maree last august and was eaten alive! It must have been a bad year for them 😅 A van would be nice to travel and sleep in but I think they’d still find their way in 😱 oh well..we find ways to deal with them in exchange for the beauty
Thanks Tom! Sorry to hear that your wife is less keen! It has been very wet up here this summer, it takes a bit of getting used to, but well worth it! S
@@BosePhotography I’ve literally just returned from the highlands yesterday, I’m literally down and just want to return asap. I sincerely wish you all the best of success with your lifestyle change and new adventure. Good luck Tom
@@tomxrt2650 thank you very much Tom, and glad to hear you had a good trip! Thank you very much for your best wishes, we really appreciate it, it is a very special place up here. S
Senior Daughter has a degree in medical biophysics and instrumentation, from Swinburne University in Melbourne. She worked part time at the Mental Health Research Institute, part of the University of Melbourne, for a while. The lead got his PhD, the money was spent so she was looking for a job. It was data entry at and insurance company. She did well, got poached from by Victorian branch by head office and now is an acknowledge expert in reinsurance. She changed employer once, still in Melbourne, the decided she should move to Perth. Her job came with her, she works from home. In theory she's supposed to spend a day a week in the Perth office, hasn't happened this year.
Great intro to your new life.. wishing you both all the best going forward. Hannah as a vet and a lover of wildlife/animals have you any pets? regarsd Al
Hi Alan. Thank you for your well wishes. I think I am relatively restrained in pet ownership, just having two rabbits. I was tempted to steal the practice cat from my last job (I was very fond of her) but she has a pretty good life where she is so that was not really a serious prospect. Do bees count as pets? I have a hive and I really enjoy looking after them (whilst at the same time being slightly intimidated by them as a newbie beekeeper!). How about yourself? H
Everybody does a video on youtube when they move to Scotland. We never did although 25 years ago, but I guess there wasn't a TH-cam channel to make our arrival public. Anyway, I wonder what's up with that? People seem to need to advertise they've come here.
Perhaps it also has something to do with letting our existing subscribers know why all of a sudden all of our videos are now from Scotland? To be fair though, I didn't make a video in 1999 when I moved from the Scottish highlands to the south of England either... :)
We need some good science explainers. We have Dr Karl, podcast Shirtloads of Science, and Dr Norman Swan, physician (GP) and journalist who's been doing The Health Report (also podcast) for decades. His son, Jonathon, did that interview with President Trump. Norman sounds more Scottish than you do, despite many decades in Australia. Work on your videos a bit more seriously, maybe do some journalism training, let's see what you can do!
Thank you John, and thank you for the recommendations as well! We are planning to have a few 'special guests' up here in the future so hopefully there will be some collaboration videos to come. Really interesting to hear about your daughter. The last few years have certainly changed how employers view remote working and I'm very thankful to keep my post-doctoral position at the University of Oxford for a little while. I have finished all of the lab work I needed to do for my project, so it is now a case of writing up some papers and I'm also able to provide remote supervision for our PhD students. I enjoy writing more than lab work, so I intend to focus on that now. I never actually had a Scottish accent unfortunately, my parents are English so even when I lived here previously I never sounded 'local' but perhaps I will gain one now! S.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, experiences, and visions of your future.
It would be nice to visit the Highlands.

Hearty congratulations Hannah & Sam; you've earned and deserve every success coming your way 😃!
What a grand adventure, good luck to you both. That's an amazing area to call home.
Thank you Shaun!
Well done for the two of you! What a fantastic move.
Thank you very much Ken! S
Hi Sam and Hannah I reckon you've made a great move, the photo opportunities are going to be fantastic. I was fortunate to ride the NC500 a couple of years ago on a motorcycle and hope to return again maybe later this year or next. It's difficult to make plans at the moment.
The only negative is that tiny flying creature the dreaded midge:)
Sandy
Hi Sandy, yes the midges certainly cause problems around here! At least for a few months per year! Mind you, it's gorgeous here at the moment, doesn't feel like March at all (and no 'flying teeth' yet either!). I hope that you are able to make it up here again soon. Actually, I'm planning to try a bit of bushcraft up here as well at some point (planning to have a couple of nights in the woods later in the year!). Sam.
Best of luck to both of you. It's a big step to change career and follow your dreams, I sincerely hope it all works out well for you both. 🙂
Thank you very much Paul! S
Such an amazing opportunity guys, really hope it works out for you
Cheers Tom, hopefully we'll see you up here at some point! S.
Good luck to you both I enjoy your videos. I will be watching from the good old USA.
Thank you very much Bill! We'll look forward to sharing the landscape here with you in future videos!
It must have been a bad year for them 😅
A van would be nice to travel and sleep in but I think they’d still find their way in 😱 oh well..we find ways to deal with them in exchange for the beauty
Wish you all the best!!!
Thank you very much Rakesh! S
Lovely video! Inspirational
Thank you Joey! S
The path to success is to take massive determined action.
Very well said! Thank you Tim!
We are thinking of moving to the Highlands or somewhere in Scotland we will be retired and be able to buy a house outright
Hey Guys, Would be great to have an update on all your plans from this vlog!
Thanks Archie, apologies for the delay, but update coming shortly! :)
I would love to move to the Scottish highlands, unfortunately my wife doesn’t ! Loved the video. Best wishes
What a lovely couple
How are you getting along with the locals?
Great thanks John! It's a fantastic community around here, and having grown up just a bit further north it feels like moving back home for me. S
Good luck you guys 😘
Thank you Bryan! S
you will do well.u have good attitude all the best to u both
Thank you very much! S.
Good Luck
Thank you Paul! S
Hope all goes well? 📷👍
Thank you very much Eltin! S
Sam hasn’t got a Scottish accent which is odd as he grew up there.
Yeah, I wish I did have one! I moved to Sussex when I was 14 though 😞 Maybe it will come back 😂🤞
We need some good science explainers.
